Went here to grab a drink after a celebration of life ceremony and was looking to grab a Guinness and "split the G".

Well it's a very local bar in Simi Valley that only offers beer and wine for alcohol drinks. Do not expect to get a fancy cocktail here! They do have a wide selection that includes seltzers and cider. And on Thursday it's thirsty Thursday meaning you can score deals on select drinks! Like 2.50 for select beers. Golden Nugget Pub prides itself in specializing in California local craft beers, ales, ciders, but wines according to Yelper Rob B. are not worth one's discerning palate.  GNP can be classified within the realm of a dive in that it is basic, butch, down home. But unlike some dives, the bar is clean, neat, sanitized. Two outdoor tents with good fresh air circulation, one in front & another on its east side with physically distanced tables, are reassuring.   The pours are ideal in having a 5oz glass to be able to sample the diverse 30 beer menu which changes often. There is a 10oz as well as larger pint pours.  1) Tangerine & Pineapple IPA, Stone Brewing, IPA Imperial/Double 9%:  High hops for a heavy, green herbal funk. Bit of barnyard ammonia. Meaty yeastiness. Clear, discernable tangerine zest & pineapple.  2) Apocalypse How Brouwerij West Stout-Pastry Imperial w/ peanuts, chocolate, Vanilla, Lactose 12.7%: A true dessert beer. Thick, sweet, tastes of burnt coffee, dark chocolate, acidic. I'd like to put a scoop of premium vanilla ice cream for a beer float.  Smooth like Guiness. Reminds me that Apocalypse How is a beer equivalent to Hungarian Tokaji Aszú Essencia    Some Yelpers complained about GNP not being a full liquor bar. Don't they realize how expensive it is obtaining a full liquor license that would not be profitable for a dive? GNP does a good job being a beer bar that has a good "curated" list of beers. Don't even step in if all you want is a cocktail cuz it ain't gonna happen. 4 stars. read more

This is great local simple pub. Beer and wine only. The bartender is great. Super busy running the place alone but keeps the beers coming. Besides being very clean, the prices are excellent as is the great selection of beer. They don't have any food. Have seen others bring in their own. We stumbled across this pub while attending a memorial service across the street. Somber occasion, but this place was a nice respite to have a drink and chill with friends. We even visited on back-to-back days due to multiple events. Bar staff is awesome! Very gracious and considerate of our visit. From what I understand, this is now the oldest bar/pub in Simi Valley. They serve a wide array of craft beers, sure to please any beer aficionado! Local place, but everyone is cool there, and they make you feel very welcomed! If you're looking for a tiny bar that focuses on beer and doesn't get too busy, this is it. There was a fun group of people and we made new friends, but it definitely falls in the dive bar category. No hard liquor, beer and wine only - but they do have a vast beer selection. A fun element is their beer around the world quest. Holy mother of dive bars, this place is magic! This place is divy in an honest way, it is ERNEST about its divey-ness. Its not that hipster, trying to be a dive bar in an ironic way kind of place. The decor of the Golden Nugget harkens back to your great uncles house who chain smoked and lived in a scary cabin which for a dive bar is EXACTLY the aesthetic they should be shooting for. The beer is fantastic and the service is awesome. Plus they have a fun event just about every night so it is the best go-to spot if you want to have a beer and do trivia, karaoke or lotteria. Very fun dive bar! Typical crowd you'd expect at a dive bar in Simi Valley. They have a small outdoor patio in which you can sit down and bring your drinks. There is also corn hole in the back lot where drinks aren't allowed. Lots of Firestone beers here to try--I had the Sticky Monkey. Bourbon barrel aged, super good! Definitely a sipping beer. I just don't give 5 stars, but this would be close. There is always room for improvement and the only real negative is the decor, not that it is abhorrent, just old and dated. To be honest, I go for the beer and some conversation. Sometimes conversation is good, sometimes there is none. The beer though, always always always quality available.
