Good food I enjoy the hamburger steak with mushrooms and their stuffed potato is awesome.

My family and I have been coming here for decades. When available, the prime rib is delicious. However, our favorite to go. Is the stuffed mushrooms, a filet mignon and the lobster. The cheesy run is super delicious. My only complain about the last time, my cocktail definitely felt water down and not strong enough. So I'd probably stick to wine, neat drinks or beer. Still, the customer service was great and great if you're wanting to have a nice high-end, quality meal. read more

Steakhouse Prices, Worse Than Cafeteria Food Spider webs on the dining room lamps and food stains on our tablecloth were the first things I noticed during our first visit. Not exactly the first impression you'd expect from a steakhouse restaurant. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms appetizer. It arrived with plates but no silverware. We waited several minutes assuming our server would return with utensils, but she never did. We had to flag her down and ask for them. I also ordered a glass of wine that never arrived. The restaurant was slow, and by the time our entrées were served, I was still waiting. When we reminded our server, she just said "oh the wine yes!" She completely forgot! The food was even more disappointing than the service. The loaded mashed potatoes tasted extremely sour, no cheese, just shredded raw onions and sour cream with burnt top. How can you call this loaded baked potato? The mac and cheese was dry, bland, and lacked any real cheese flavor. Even the green beans had to a burnt pieces mixed in.None of the sides were at edible level. The steak was the only thing on my plate thats tolerable and even that left my stomach uncomfortable after my meal. The biggest disappointment was the food. For steakhouse prices, we were served loaded potatoes overwhelmed by raw onion, mac and cheese that tasted like cardboard, burnt green beans, and an average steak. The service and cleanliness issues only added to the frustration. We usually dine at Larsen's but decided to try support local businesses. After this experience, we'll be sticking with Larsen's. This will be our first and last visit. read more

I was excited to try this place because I love old school steakhouses and I love the Gold Rush theme. I don't live in the area, but I had gone to the movies nearby and got out just in time for an early dinner. I love the look of the place, it's dark and comforting and nostalgic and quite nice. Because it was early, I got a booth all to myself, as I was dining solo. My server was fantastic the entire time, but unfortunately I wasn't that happy with the food. The dinner salad was kind of unexciting, although the blue cheese dressing was good. I don't really understand the stuffed baked potato, because it was more like a twice baked potato that had maybe been sitting under a heat lamp for a long time, it was browned on top. I don't know where the cheese in the sour cream were, unless they were mixed in. I expected an actual baked potato with toppings but that's not how it came. It seems like the specialty of the house was prime rib, especially since it's only while supplies last and supplies are limited, so I ordered that. I got the 12 oz prime rib so I could take some home and eat leftovers. I was surprised that it came with a crust made of minced garlic, which is not standard or common with prime rib, and I feel like that should have been noted on the menu. Especially because garlic like that often goes against my stomach. I tried to scrape it off and eat around it, but I did end up getting kind of nauseous and gassy later which I didn't really appreciate. Also the crust wasn't all that crusty, the fat layer was basically raw and not rendered. My leftover portion was much better when I could remove the garlic and render the fat in the pan at home. The iced tea was watery and didn't have much flavor. Because I live far away, I didn't try any of the cocktails. And because I was feeling a bit nauseous from the garlic, I didn't stay for any dessert. I really wanted to like this place and maybe I'll try again by ordering some different things, if I'm in the area again. But I definitely would not make a special trip to go. read more

We had three adults and one toddler, but they gave us such a small table that there was barely enough room for our plates. The table seemed more appropriate for two people, not a party of four. What made it even more frustrating was that there were larger tables available from the beginning. Only after all of our food had already arrived did our server offer to move us to a bigger table. At that point, it was too late and inconvenient to move everything. Why weren't we given an appropriately sized table from the beginning? I ordered grilled chicken for my toddler and was charged the regular menu price, which I'm fine with. However, I wish our server had told us beforehand that the grilled chicken for toddler would also be charged at the full regular price. Unfortunately, our server Aidan provided very poor service. She was not attentive at all. Our water was not refilled in a timely manner, and at the end of the meal, we were given very small containers for our leftovers, which resulted in us having a bunch of separate boxes. She didn't even bring us a bag, and I had to ask her for one. For a restaurant that presents itself as high-end, the level of service was extremely disappointing. My bill is $131.90 and they deserve ZERO tip and will not be returning. Very disappointed. read more

Went for dinner and dessert at 7pm on Wednesday and it was packed. Couples, families, singles. Plenty of servers on duty and the service was excellent! Nolan was our server and he was on it. Wasn't obnoxious about giving good service but on top of it. Got our orders right, was accommodating. I love the ambience. Not California dining with bright lights and high noise level. Old time sexy ambience where you think the couple in the next booth might be having an affair. I'm on the west end of Simi so I forget about Sutter's. I'll make more of an effort however. A great, long-time, local neighborhood steakhouse. Comforting food and drinks with cozy booths. Their famous prime rib is juicy and tender. The au jus sauce was so flavorful. I forgot to take a picture of our 8 ounce Prime Rib with sides mac n cheese and steak fries- because we ate it up so quickly lol. Sorry guys, my bad! We ate here Saturday night and honestly left really disappointed, especially considering how much we spent. I had been here years ago and remembered it being a solid steakhouse type restaurant with good comfort food, so we were excited to come back. First off, the restaurant itself is beautiful -- huge booths, cozy lighting, and a great atmosphere. We also had a young waiter who was absolutely wonderful. Friendly, attentive, knowledgeable, and truly the highlight of the experience. Drinks also came out quickly and were strong. Unfortunately, the food completely missed the mark. I ordered the half rack of ribs with a loaded baked potato and salad. The 4 little ribs were tiny with barely any meat on them, and the baked potato tasted strange -- almost like artificial butter or margarine instead of real butter and sour cream. There was hardly any bacon and way too many green onions. The salad was basically chopped iceberg lettuce with a clump of what looked like canned tomatoes on top. The blue cheese dressing was actually delicious, but overall the meal was disappointing, especially for $33, and I honestly left hungry. My husband ordered the BBQ grilled chicken and the chicken breast was shockingly small -- it honestly looked like a kids meal. The fries tasted like basic frozen fries. My son's mac and cheese was honestly awful and tasted sour. A box of Kraft would have been better. The cheeseburger was average at best -- I've genuinely had better burgers at youth soccer tournaments. It really feels like this restaurant is struggling when it comes to food quality and portion sizes, which is unfortunate because the location, ambience, and service all have so much potential. Who would have thought there was an excellent Prime Rib place in the heart of Simi Valley that serves Prime Rib every night! Excellent cut of meat, very flavorful and tender. Well, the receptionist was great as we went on Valentines day. When we went to be seated, it was at a table, and I requested a booth since my wife had a back problem. We got a bit of flak from the waitress, and again, the receptionist was great and seated us in a booth. Before we got a chance to order, the waitress was very nervous and appeared as if she didn't want to be there. I ordered a Bacardi rum & with Pepsi- she said she only had Coke. Specifically, Bacardi rum, when I got the drink in a very small mug & $14.00 later, as when I took a sip and asked her are you sure this is bacardi- she stated without a doubt. You can blind fold me & I know the taste of Bacardi. When I got the bill, it stated Captain Morgan for the rum on the receipt- so much for Bacardi Then we got our dinners, and the prime rib was super tough and basically cut it with my knife, so she took it back and gave me a rib-eye steak, and that was good. We have been to this establishment several times before, and it's always been great, but after this expereince doubt I will go back; they never said anything about possibly making the bill correct. The stuffed baked potato and garlic bread was delicious and the steak was tender. The service was just ok. Old school steak house. This is our go-to for a quiet dinner. We usually get the large cut prime rib (two sides included). They don't nickel and dime you by charging for everything separately. The prices are is school too. Plus it's nice there's no charge for corkage. They say "if you bring your own wine, why should you be charged twice?" I can live with that. read more

The one good thing I can say, which is important is that the prime rib was pretty good and worth the price. The size and taste were both quite good. Now for the bad, the stuffed baked potato, the green beans and the peach cobbler were just warm, not hot. I have no idea why they couldn't serve any of these hot, but that was bad. Also, the green beans, which aren't my favorite side to begin with seemed like they were the quality of canned green beans, certainly not fresh, while the potato would have been adequate if it were hot. (Also, the prime rib was also not hot but typically prime rib isn't served piping hot like steaks, but it should have been warmer.) Also, I went there at 4 PM to get the 20% happy hour discount but when I got the bill, the waitress didn't apply it and I had to remind her and she apologized. When she returned, I noticed that she only applied the 20% discount to the prime rib but NOT the dessert. By then I was fed up and didn't bring it up and just paid and gave her an 18% tip since it is the holiday season. I forgot to mention the ambience. They played country music the entire time I was there (40 minutes) which I do NOT like and it was very dark. I had to use my iPhone light to read the menu; not good. First time visit for a holiday meal on Sunday before Christmas Thursday. We sat at the bar for a cocktail before we got our table. No price on any of the drinks. Ordered a Jack Daniels and Diet Coke, the Coke was totally flat which made the drink terrible. At dinner food was all good except my prime rib which I ordered the large cut looked like the small cut. I ordered medium and for sure it came out medium rare. I ate it just the same, no flavor to it or the sauce. The others had New York steak which were delicious and cooked as ordered. Wife ordered chicken it was dry. Stuffed baked potatoes were tasty. House bottle of wine had no price it was Josh a good tasting wine but overpriced at $37 I thought. I've had bottles of house wine in other fine restaurants for $22. Then the bill came without the 20 percent discount for their advertised happy hour deal for entre dine in between 4:00-5:00. The server said they were not going to apply it today. I asked to speak to the manager but the manager was busy cooking. The explanation was that today they considered it a holiday because it was so busy. I refused to pay the bill not to mention they gave me someone else's bill that was $100 over ours. They gave me the $22 discount I left a nice tip just the same and we were out the door not coming back and sharing our experience with others as I am here. read more

We decided to go for Easter as I was visiting from out of town this holiday. This place is a little dim lit, but I like it. The old fashioned style steak restaurant. Roomy booths, and comfortable. We were seated immediately, and had a great booth for our group. The service was great! I ordered a mai tai, a special of theirs, and it was delicious. They have an ample sized bar, and selections. All meals come with salad or optional. Salad was great, crisp, fresh. My boyfriend ordered prime rib and was happy. I ordered the filet, and it was scrumptious! A great cut, cooked perfectly, and the side baked potato was just right! There's nothing better when you have a craving for a steak, and receive one that hits the spot. Loved it! Always find myself enjoying a nice meal at Sutters Mill. The service has always been good to us whether it is a date or a holiday gathering. Better part is the no corkage fee. With a low light and quieter atmosphere, we have chosen to visit Sutters Mill as our annual anniversary meal. Not a huge fan of prime rib which they are known for but the ribeye is also very good. I think it had sour cream mixed in it. I don't like sour cream. I still ate the potato because it was still good. The green beans were fresh and delicious. We loved the restaurant's ambiance. It is truly an old steak house vibe with private comfy booths. We thought we would eat early so it wouldn't be crowded on a Friday night. It was packed at 5:00. We take my mom here for Mother's Day and her birthday as this is her selection choice year after year. The service is always friendly and attentive. The food is average but we tolerate it for the atmosphere and dining experience. The last two times, however, demonstrated the overall lack of communication amongst management/owner and staff. After ordering prime rib and lobster (very small lobster tail) for $93, I wanted my dressing on the side of my $17 wedge salad; the answer was, "No, I cannot do that." I was shocked and this happened both times. The answer given was the chefs don't like this. I said but why? The explanation was somewhere in the area of if busy, it would take too long. We were one of three parties in the entire restaurant. I do not like my dressing doused over my salad and prefer to dictate how much I put on; there was no budging. This, to me, makes no sense. It does not take longer to put the dressing in a container then to pour it over the salad and when you charge $17 for iceberg lettuce, you should grant such a request. Hope those reading take a moment to communicate with your servers about what their customers on the floor are saying so you can improve. Would hate to see this place go out of business after serving so many in the Simi area for years. read more

Nice atmosphere (on the dark side). However, even though it is a steak house, it was the worst steak I have ever had in my life! and I have had a lot. I ordered a sirloin steak, (medium). I could barely cut it with their steak knife., It was cooked perfectly medium, tasted absolutely delicious, yet it was sooooo gristly I had a hard time chewing it and couldn't eat it, I tried several times and each time left each chewed bite on my plate. And it was a bit hard to cut the crab-stuffed mushroom appetizers for both my brother and me. My other brother ordered a filet mignon (medium) and it was rare but he didn't complain, The waitress made several mistakes with our order, but corrected them. It was Xmas eve so maybe inexperienced help was brought it to help. I was there one other time and ordered their prime rib--their specialty. I was disappointed with the flavor. Two others in our party were satisfied with their meal, but ordered chicken or salmon. First, my son and I went to Musashi in Porter Ranch but we were denied to dine in since I wasn't vaccinated! There were other patrons who were told that they couldn't dine in as well due to the new la County restaurant mandate! They were equally upset and took their business elsewhere which is what I did! I decided to go to Simi Valley area since I know they're part of Ventura County and not ridiculous la County. I went on yelp and the name and photos of this place caught my attention. I gave them a call and asked them if they required a vaccine card and fortunately, they don't. We ordered prime rib and it was the best prime rib we've had so far. The meat was very tender and the stuffed potato was really good! Garlic bread was also delicious and salads were fresh. I also had a yummy piña colada for a drink to go with my meal. Our waiter Gabriel was very attentive and always checked if we needed anything. The whole staff was amazing and the ambience was great! Plenty of parking space and the price is really good!
