Mushroom and pepper omelet with cottage cheese

Super charming spot with history, so level set those expectations. The food was good (just good). Service was very nice... even split the plate for two people who were sharing at our table. Five stars for the longevity and historical feel to this place.

Country Fried Steak, comes with hash browns, egss, and biscuits and gravy

Really decent prices, cozy atmosphere, and super friendly staff! It was even busy during a weekday morning!

We visited a farm in Moorpark and needed lunch! On Mondays so much is closed. We walked past three places before finding Cactus Patch. Service was friendly. I ordered the turkey club sandwich with Cole slaw(instead of fries). There was so much bread. It's hard to mess up Cole slaw. And I am a Cole slaw snob. But the slaw was limp and full of too much dressing. I had one bite. :-( Kinda disappointing.

Breakfast this morning with my blushing bride at Cactus Patch Restaurant in beautiful and rustic Old Town Moorpark. This is a delightful older restaurant that is very clean, comfortable and decorated with lots of interesting period items. The staff is really kind and provides the right amount and type of attention. This place is quite obviously liked by the older locals! Our meals were a bit of a mixed bag. The blushing bride had her "regular": vegetable omelette. There wasn't one listed on the menu so it was custom designed and included mushroom and spinach. It was really fresh and tasty. I had the Riley Special: biscuit and gravy, a couple of over-easy eggs and a couple of sausage patties. I liked the sausage and eggs but didn't care for the "famous" biscuit and gravy. They were both sweet, which was an unwelcome taste. The gravy, perhaps, was "milk sweet" because it was under seasoned. Putting salt on it partially controlled the sweetness. I won't order that again but there are plenty of other options. I'm calling this 4 stars despite not really liking my meal because every other aspect was perfect. We received proper attention with no rushing and had a perfectly relaxing experience.

A little off the beaten track - this street looks like a different decade. The sign on front door said closed Wednesday for filming. I inquired what they were shooting and a fellow patron spoke up and said "stranger things" the tv show. Cool! My husband and I split the cactus famous country breakfast. We were famished and missed taking the picture as it arrived. My picture of the meal is after it was split. The dish included biscuits and gravy. Biscuits are the dry dense type and the gravy, using my husbands comments were heavily mushroom tasting. My guess...mushroom soup is in the recipe.the home fries were hash browns topped with onions and peppers. Nice breakfast - nothing out of the ordinary. Staff friendly enough and a decent cup of Joe. NOTE they did charge us to split the breakfast...$1. Not a fan of this practice especially without warning.

Food was delicious. The salsa had good flavor, not spicy. Staff was very welcoming and attentive.

Riley special, I cut into it before I took a pic. Couldn't wait.

Came in a little before 10:30 on a Sunday and were immediately seated. It did pick up right after 10:30 and every table was full. The service was excellent, friendly and quick. It's a cute little cafe with so much to look at on the walls. They brought our food out quick. Portions are generous. I had the Riley and husband had 2x2x2. Both were so yummy, their sausage is the best with a touch of sage. We will be back to support this place.

Service was amazing. It was my first time here. The whole staff was super polite and friendly. Most restaurants when you ask a staff for a more napkins, a refill, they say, "let me get your server." I'm not sure who our server was because every seemed to just be friendly and work as a team.

Bacon and eggs, hash-browns well done and English muffin with cream cheese It was excellent cooked perfect!

Been coming here for over 15 year's it has probably been around here for the creation of Moorpark but I'm not positive on the years It most likely been here at least 50-75 years from look at the place but it is super clean and home cooked food at a reasonable price.

Yum! High fructose corn syrup.

The reviews were quite solid so we thought this would be an outstanding place to eat - and we were not disappointed. We arrived before 10am and the small, nondescript family-owned spot in a retail strip mall was about half full. Right away, you could smell some amazing, authentic Mexican spices in the air. We were seated quickly by the friendly young woman. The service was very efficient from the start. After looking over the menu, my girlfriend and I were drawn to starting with some amazing Cafe de Olla in these great, authentic colorful ceramic mugs. I opted for Grandma's Chile Verde (Pork cooked in green tomatillo sauce, poblano chilis and Swiss Cheese with the option to add fruit, tarot tots, hash browns and/or egg whites. Served with corn or flour tortillas). My girlfriend went with the other option I was interested in: Chilaquiles Asada Burrito (Carne Asada, chilaquiles, guacamole, queso fresco, sour cream and black beans, served with the aforementioned breakfast sides). Our food was delivered hot and fast within 10 minutes. Right away, the freshly-prepared entrees looked amazingly eye-catching. The first bites of my slow cooked pork were outstanding. Fall off the fork juicy, each bite was filled with amazing spices and flavor combinations that any abuelita would be proud of. The hash browns were also soft on the inside with a slight crisp on the outside. The egg whites and corn tortillas were a nice touch to make my breakfast fulfilling. My girlfriend's burrito was five-star, excellence. I was able to snag a few bites and the carne asada, like my pork, was tender, moist and delicious. The flavor depth of the chilaquiles sauce was simply out of this word. Amazing. Overall, this place is a home run. By 11am, the place was filled with a small line of people outside waiting. With limited hours, daily until 2pm, you'll want to grab a spot early at one of the tables inside or small number of seats outside quickly. The staff rotated and checked on our table at least six times, making sure the food was tasty and the Cafe de Olla refills hot and fresh. Plenty of parking in the strip mall out front, with one gender neutral bathroom in the back (which was clean). Overall, Jarro's offers up some of the best Mexican classics for breakfast in the area, and the service is top notch. The prices are all quite reasonable for the quantity and quality of items. The menu also offers up some more traditional American breakfast options (pancakes, waffles etc), but my recommendation is to try the Mexican classics. The spices and flavors will make your corazon happy.

Would not take order of first round of drinks without looking at our ID's. My wife and I are in our sixties, it was embarrassing because they made a huge production out of it. (No other patrons that I saw were subject to this scrutiny) The Ugly: we each had one drink and shared two yellow tail sashimi starters. Upon asking for another round we were rather surprised to find out our party was cut off from the bar. Water and bread only. The sashimi eaten we took the indignation in stride and decided to wait until the barmaid deemed it acceptable to serve us again. Now it gets bad, one of our party became ill and threw up in the bathroom, before we could even find out what was going on with her, barmaid from hell publicly informed us because one of our party was ill we were permanently cut off from the bar. Not considering the food as the culprit of said illness at all. My wife began to feel sick as well and we paid and left. She had trouble walking, speaking and breathing. She became violently ill and the smell of bad fish was overwhelming. I have a portable breathalyzer for guests to use at my home to ensure their safety if they drink. My BAC - .023 , my wife's was .024 obviously not intoxicated. Shame on M on High for such poor judgement and embarrassing their patrons. Avoiding this restaurant is going to be so easy as there's a plethora of good restaurants in the area. This is my experience, the Good, the Bad and, The UGLY.

Starting with the good... Ambience - Cozy and inviting. Service -- Warm, friendly and attentive. Kudos to Freda's for this. The Focaccia Rustico -- This was the best part of our meal. It came out freshly baked and so satisfyingly delicious as we dipped in the small bowl of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Portions - Generous. Parking - Lots of options nearby and free. The disappointments...(see pics) Food delivery - There was a long wait during our visit. We overheard a waitress tell a table who arrived after us that the kitchen was backed up. Gnocchi -- This did not look like the picture on their website. The gnocchi was perfectly cooked but was barely covered with sauce. My husband initially thought that they served me Mac n' Cheese by mistake. I could not taste the sun-dried tomato at all. The added shrimp was seared on only one side and was severely under seasoned. Then as we drove home, I notice that the price we were charged ($25+$9 (shrimp)=$34) did not match the menu or the website that noted $24+$8=$32. This overcharge was minor but added to the overall disappointment. Braised Short Rib - This was closer to the website but with far less au jus. The carrots were terrible. They were not roasted, tasted boiled and had a rubbery texture. The short rib was fork tender but very salty. The mashed potatoes were good. We skipped dessert. Sadly, we won't be returning.

I came here to try out California Bun, an eatery that has harnessed an interesting (long overdue) concept, to package portable food. Here they prepare snack sized bites (or a little more) of favorite food fancies, enveloped in a daily fresh baked round brioche bun. The store is high ceiling, spacious and large, with ample space to dine in or carry out. It is a mom and pop joint, that is slowly but surely, beginning to make a mark. On the main wall, elegantly displayed, are all the many enticing varieties, for the day. My visit was designed to take something to go. The conundrum here is, what to order, because there were so many inviting choices that were talking to you. I finally decided to select three of these evenly browned and differently topped buns. The El Sabroso (Egg, cheddar & jack cheese, bacon & Jalapeno salsa, garnished with Cheese, bacon & jalapeño). The Roadside Burger (Seasoned ground beef, grilled onions, white American cheese, & secret house burger sauce, garnished with Cheese & bacon). The Mac Daddy (Creamy mac and cheese with a cheddar, jack, and parmesan cheese blend, garnished with Panko bread crumbs). So whats the verdict? The Mac Daddy was my least favorite. In comparing the other two, the Roadside Burger seemed to have the higher of (inside filling/inside bread) ratio, as compared to the El Sabroso. However, the latter is the most attractive bun on the outside and overall, contains a good mix of flavors and slight kick. Any food with a visible Jalapeño is a magnet, for me. Still, this concoction needs more of the egg mixture, to achieve the right balance. In general, all 3 buns were soft, had a nice texture, bread taste and chew. Service here is warm, inviting, friendly and informative.
