    Chilaquiles Asada Burrito with Hashbrowns.
    Randy B.

My girlfriend and I were in the area running some morning errands when we looked up Jarro's Cafe as a potential Sunday morning breakfast option. The reviews were quite solid so we thought this would be an outstanding place to eat - and we were not disappointed. We arrived before 10am and the small, nondescript family-owned spot in a retail strip mall was about half full. Right away, you could smell some amazing, authentic Mexican spices in the air. We were seated quickly by the friendly young woman. The service was very efficient from the start. After looking over the menu, my girlfriend and I were drawn to starting with some amazing Cafe de Olla in these great, authentic colorful ceramic mugs. I opted for Grandma's Chile Verde (Pork cooked in green tomatillo sauce, poblano chilis and Swiss Cheese with the option to add fruit, tarot tots, hash browns and/or egg whites. Served with corn or flour tortillas). My girlfriend went with the other option I was interested in: Chilaquiles Asada Burrito (Carne Asada, chilaquiles, guacamole, queso fresco, sour cream and black beans, served with the aforementioned breakfast sides). Our food was delivered hot and fast within 10 minutes. Right away, the freshly-prepared entrees looked amazingly eye-catching. The first bites of my slow cooked pork were outstanding. Fall off the fork juicy, each bite was filled with amazing spices and flavor combinations that any abuelita would be proud of. The hash browns were also soft on the inside with a slight crisp on the outside. The egg whites and corn tortillas were a nice touch to make my breakfast fulfilling. My girlfriend's burrito was five-star, excellence. I was able to snag a few bites and the carne asada, like my pork, was tender, moist and delicious. The flavor depth of the chilaquiles sauce was simply out of this word. Amazing. Overall, this place is a home run. By 11am, the place was filled with a small line of people outside waiting. With limited hours, daily until 2pm, you'll want to grab a spot early at one of the tables inside or small number of seats outside quickly. The staff rotated and checked on our table at least six times, making sure the food was tasty and the Cafe de Olla refills hot and fresh. Plenty of parking in the strip mall out front, with one gender neutral bathroom in the back (which was clean). Overall, Jarro's offers up some of the best Mexican classics for breakfast in the area, and the service is top notch. The prices are all quite reasonable for the quantity and quality of items. The menu also offers up some more traditional American breakfast options (pancakes, waffles etc), but my recommendation is to try the Mexican classics. The spices and flavors will make your corazon happy.

    Chilaquiles Torta

Came in with family to celebrate my mom's birthday. Located in a lot with plenty of parking. Great ambiance, great service and great food. Had the iced cafe de la olla and I could drink that all day long! At our table, we ordered the chilaquiles plate, a bacon and eggs, place, the chilaquiles, torta, and the chilaquiles Asada burrito. I split the burrito and torta. The torta was very good but the burrito was absolutely delicious and the one I'd order if I went back. The asada was so yummy! And the portions are generous. We ended up taking home quite a bit of food.

I was craving some Chilaquiles and read some reviews that said this cafe had some good Chilaquiles. We went on a weekend and the restaurant was packed. They have around 10 tables inside and a couple outside. We ordered the Chilaquiles Rojas, Chilaquiles Asada Burrito, and a cup of Cafe de Olla. The Chilaquiles were very good, flavorful and crispy. The Chilaquiles Asada burrito was my favorite. The combination of chilaquiles and asada all wrapped in a tortilla was winner! The cafe de Olla was very good! Sweet with a strong cinnamon flavor. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and service was pretty fast. We will definitely come back to try other items! They serve an assortment of breakfast and lunch items, so come on in and give them a try. Happy Nom Nom!

Breakfast Burrito + carne asada in the front

Firstly, very clean, quaint establishment, comfortable dining experience, very friendly, fast & attentive service, and the food was ON POINT! Drinks came w/ personality & food was made with care. Secondly, the BEST carne asada I've had at a restaurant... EVER! Fresh, flavorful, soft & not fatty. It was so good, it got its own mention. Finally, the food! Very enjoyable salsa (but 100% white girl spicy), and the tater tots - the TATER TOTS were cooked to perfection. I never knew they could be cooked so precisely, but I stand corrected. We each ordered a different burrito and were extremely satisfied with our choices; the portion size, flavor, how well it was prepared, how fresh & hot it was, & even the plating. Overall, a great experience, delicious food, and will come back. We highly recommend it.

    half order of french toast

I had the chilaquiles 8/10, they were crispy which I liked. I also had a half order of french toast 7.5/10. The coffee was good. The service was 7/10. We were attended to but it seemed busy and there were only two servers. We were only provided with forks, no spoons, which I did need for mixing sugar in my coffee. This is a small restaurant where you can brunch and breakfast with friends or family. I'd recommend if you're in the area.

    Cafe de la olla

The cafe de la olla was amazing! Cutest cups they serve you in as well. We went on a Sunday morning and it was quite busy, you can tell it's a local hotspot! Small restaurant that is perfect for a nice breakfast or brunch. Since they get really busy and only have 1 waitress I recommend ordering everything when you first order. Would definitely go back and try something different on the menu :)

Breakfast menu, you can also have lunch

This time when we visited not quite as good. We sat at a table and waited for a while and had to ask for menu's. It was a full house and we were not in a rush but still. My husband and I took two of our grandkids, 13 and 16. They loved the pancakes, one had with berries the other chocolate one. They ate everything. I had a waffle with fruit. The waffle was good but I had a hard time cutting. My husband again had the chili verde omelette. Still cute mugs but coffee not ass good. I would have give this a 3.5 if I could.

This place was amazing! What a gem in the heart of the city. This breakfast burrito was delicious. I substituted the potatoes for tots and was not disappointed. The salsa and burrito had so much flavor. I highly recommend this quaint and friendly cafe.

My godly tamale. Get it while it's in season!
    Elaine P.

Yet again here we are with our kitchen renovation incomplete, so we decided breakfast at Jarro's would hit the spot. I think this little gem is gaining popularity; the place was almost to capacity on a Saturday morning. I'm glad we read the blackboard out front because it listed the December specials. We ordered the enchilada and tamale plates from it, with some iced tea. I didn't taste my H's enchiladas but he sucked them up like a freshly tuned Hoover vac. In other words, he enjoyed them. My tamale. OMG, how do I count the ways of perfection. I'll start with the masa. Flavorful, tender, and slightly fluffy. The pork filling was diced into little tender flavor bomb cubes. All this was presented on its opened out corn husk with two eggs and black beans on the side. It was topped with a red sauce, then grated cotija cheese, then guacamole and sour cream. If you're reading this at year end, run, don't walk to Jarro's and experience its godliness. I don't think they offer this treat year-round. I complimented the tamale to the server who told me her grandfather makes these packets of fluffy tastiness. You go, abuelito! I think we will be back soon... like maybe tomorrow.

Average American breakfast, the Mexican food here is really bomb though. For example the chilaquiles asada burrito hits the spot.

It's got more of a bar vibe than having $16 cocktails, $23+ starters and $30 entrees. The seats were shabby and worn, and the tables just looked utilitarian. Our server made up for it...was on top of ordering and very efficient. Can't remember her name but dark hair, cute with a septum piercing. She was calm and took a few extra measures to ensure our visit was nice. It was actually my sister's birthday and we had just lost our mother. All in all, I would go back but wish some of the profits would go into improving the ambiance.

The food and cocktails were excellent, and it's clear the restaurant is striving to create an elevated dining experience. One thing that stood out was how thoughtful and inventive the menu felt. You can tell the chef has put a lot of creativity and care into the dishes, balancing familiar favorites with unique twists. It's definitely a cool and welcome addition to the Moorpark dining scene. We particularly enjoyed the Tropical Bird, Emma's Punch, Lemon Drop, and Mango Margarita Mocktail. The Crispy Calamari Strips were a great starter. For entrees, we enjoyed the Lamb Ragu, Parmesan Chicken Milanese, and Wild Mushroom Risotto with added chicken. All were all flavorful, beautifully prepared, and well-executed. The servings were huge (awesome!) and we had leftovers to enjoy the following day. The reason for the 4-star rating comes down to service details. While waiting to be acknowledged, we were overlooked by the hostess for other guests entering even though we were standing right in front of the host stand. Not a big deal, but didn't love the eye roll the hostess gave when I politely piped up that we had been waiting. Was not a great first impression. While our server was wonderful and friendly, there were several moments where empty plates and glasses accumulated on our table for an extended period of time. Our entrees arrived while many of our appetizer dishes and drink glasses were still sitting on the table. With several staff members circulating throughout the dining room, it felt like an opportunity was missed to provide the attentive table maintenance you'd expect from a restaurant aspiring to a fine dining level of service. These were relatively minor issues and seem more related to training and coordination than a lack of effort. The food, drinks, and atmosphere were all very good, and with a little more polish from the support staff and greeters, I think M on High Street could truly become the upscale dining experience it's aiming to be. We'd definitely return and look forward to seeing it continue to grow.

Parking in the area is pretty easy, we found a free street spot just around the corner. I wanted to order one of their most popular dishes, so I chose the Country Fried Steak. I was not a huge fan of the gravy, but I thought the steak was cooked well and I would say that I enjoyed it. We honestly were not sure if we wanted to make the drive to Moorpark again, but given Phil's extended efforts, we felt it was only right to give Freda's another try. Our last visit was during Mother's Day weekend, so we thought to come for brunch on Father's Day. It was busy when we arrived, but the host team managed the flow of customers very well. While being seated, the timing of the next reservation was mentioned, allotting an hour and a half for our time there. This was more than enough, and we were graciously thanked for our understanding. Shortly after, Danielle came to greet us, apologized for the previous dining experience and showed sincere appreciation for having us again. We had two servers for our section, Nathan being our primary one, but as before, we felt the entire team worked exceptionally well in taking care of customers. We started with the Focaccia Rustico which was the best part of our last meal. This arrived heavily toasted. We prefer the softer version from our dinner, but it was still very good. The husband was eager to try the French Dip, and it did not disappoint. The sandwich had the perfect ratio of meat to bread. The au jus was flavorful, along with the horseradish spread. The fries were, hot, crisp and nicely seasoned. I ordered the Dutch Baby. It arrived freshly made in the cast iron pan, with sides of butter, syrup and berry compote. This was my first time having the German pancake and it was delicious! It will now be on my radar when having brunch elsewhere, but Freda's is the standard that others will follow. The shrimp was ok but it did not stand out. The portions of both seemed small, probably adjusted due to the special menu. The bread that came with the dishes were good, warm and toasty. I really enjoyed the French Dip, the prime rib was tender, and the au jus and horseradish sauce enhanced the flavor. However the horseradish sauce didn't have the kick I was anticipating, so maybe more "horse" or more "radish"? Mediterranean chicken was also delicious. The fries were thin and crispy. Mimosa was refreshing. Service was great, our server Stephen was attentive and checked on us often. Overall it was an enjoyable first experience.

I've been to Italy multiple times and grew up around Italian baking, and this is hands down the best frittelle I've ever tasted. Light, golden, and filled with vanilla custard, then finished with a dusting of powdered sugar, it was truly unforgettable. This is a real Italian bakery, and once you step inside, the space completely opens up--high ceilings, a beautiful interior, and a hidden, speakeasy feel you'd never expect from the street. The young man with blonde hair who helped me was so kind, knowledgeable, and clearly proud of the bakery. It made the whole experience even better. The latte was perfectly done as well. Everything here feels high quality and thoughtfully made. I'll definitely be back. Thank you--support local.

Within ten seconds of walking in, I was greeted by Ama, who set the tone for the whole visit. She was warm, welcoming, and attentive throughout. She even let me sample different gelato flavors and suggested some great dishes to try on my next visit. That kind of thoughtfulness goes a long way. The affogato here is on another level. Most places serve it in a paper cup where the espresso and gelato just blend into a mushy mess. Not here. Carrara's presents it beautifully on a stone tray, with a proper espresso cup and a transparent glass so you can actually see the layers of gelato and espresso. And Ama personally poured the espresso tableside, which really topped off the whole experience. Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Will definitely be back.

Picked 6 different buns, ordered 12, tater tots, one of their special iced coffees(which was unbelievable) and the cinnamon roll(because I have a huge sweet tooth). I came here to try out California Bun, an eatery that has harnessed an interesting (long overdue) concept, to package portable food. Here they prepare snack sized bites (or a little more) of favorite food fancies, enveloped in a daily fresh baked round brioche bun. The store is high ceiling, spacious and large, with ample space to dine in or carry out. It is a mom and pop joint, that is slowly but surely, beginning to make a mark. On the main wall, elegantly displayed, are all the many enticing varieties, for the day. My visit was designed to take something to go. The conundrum here is, what to order, because there were so many inviting choices that were talking to you. I finally decided to select three of these evenly browned and differently topped buns. The El Sabroso (Egg, cheddar & jack cheese, bacon & Jalapeno salsa, garnished with Cheese, bacon & jalapeño). The Roadside Burger (Seasoned ground beef, grilled onions, white American cheese, & secret house burger sauce, garnished with Cheese & bacon). The Mac Daddy (Creamy mac and cheese with a cheddar, jack, and parmesan cheese blend, garnished with Panko bread crumbs). So whats the verdict? The Mac Daddy was my least favorite. In comparing the other two, the Roadside Burger seemed to have the higher of (inside filling/inside bread) ratio, as compared to the El Sabroso. However, the latter is the most attractive bun on the outside and overall, contains a good mix of flavors and slight kick. Any food with a visible Jalapeño is a magnet, for me. Still, this concoction needs more of the egg mixture, to achieve the right balance. In general, all 3 buns were soft, had a nice texture, bread taste and chew. Service here is warm, inviting, friendly and informative.

We had heard from others that the food was good as well as a beautiful location being as it's on a golf course. Great architecture and decor as we walked up from the parking lot.staff greeted us offering inside of Al fresco dining, because the weather has been spectacular we chose to sit outside. A local duo was setting up for music outside which made the Al Fresco even better, we chose to order drinks and food of of the happy hour menu as well as the regular menu. Drinks were fabulous and loved the happy hour prices, they were short staffed that evening but we didn't mind because our server covered the entire exterior on her own and the the music made the evening more delightful. Once our food came out all the dishes were tasty and plenty. We enjoyed every bit of The Ranch and we will be returning again very soon. Well done The Ranch we now have a favorite summer spot..... We sat outside, which was nice, since it gave us a view of the hills and golf course. They had the fans on so it was nice. The place was pretty empty so we were surprised when our food took forever to come out. Once it did, my chicken sandwich was pretty bland. My friend said her BBQ salad looked like cans of beans and corn were just thrown on top and they didn't chop up the lettuce, leaving her with huge inedible chunks. To top it off the amount of dressing they gave her wasn't even enough to cover the salad. Another friend had the steak salad and the steak was so tough she needed a saw to cut through the pieces. Suffice to say the prices were not worth the quality of food. 3 for ambience and friendly waitress only. Will not be coming back.
