GETTING HERE: I suggest using your navigation of choice to find this place, if you don't already know. It's off the main street, up an alleyway type street with other industrial businesses right there. Parking could be a tad of a walk if they're busy, just FYI. REVIEW: A solid 3 star experience, but rounding up to 4 as their Club was really good. Once again, Yelp ate my photos of the sandwich and inside decor. Grrr. Lovely little brekkie/lunch place that was a tad hard to find (if you don't know, you don't know). Thanks be to Yelp for showing me this hidden gem. Service was so blah. It's painful to write about how cruddy it was, because maybe they were short-staffed that morning, right? Or maybe there was 100 other different things going on, which is understandable, because life. But, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth when customers (me) are aware of this. When I go out to eat, especially to a new place, I, too, am hoping to leave my cares outside. Oh well. Their Club made up for it and I am willing to give them another try when I'm in the area.

Found this place on Yelp while looking for breakfast options close to our hotel in the Newbury Park area. This place is HIDDEN, so we definitely wouldn't have found it without that search. Even as we arrived, we thought we might be in the wrong place as it was a pretty industrial/warehouse-y area. But alas, it was Side Street Cafe! We came in around 9:15am on a Saturday and were seated immediately. The restaurant was pretty large with multiple rooms and some outdoor seating as well. The place is pretty dated and definitely gives off a small town diner vibe, but we came for the food and not the ambiance. Service was friendly, food came up quick, and portions were a pretty good size. They had a nice variety of diner breakfast staples, a handful of south of the border options, and a range of Benedicts. My brother and I opted to share a benny and a Belgian waffle. The benedict was great, eggs were cooked perfectly and it was loaded up with meat and hollandaise sauce. Belgian waffle was good, but nothing too special. Hashbrowns were nice and crispy, but did require the addition of some salt. Overall, a pretty solid spot for a traditional breakfast in a homey whole in the wall environment.

I came in for lunch , this is a cute family brunch diner type of restaurant. The service was good, They were very nice and attentive and the food came out pretty quickly. I wish I would have tried a breakfast item because I did not like the soup / sandwich , the clam chowder was very fishy tasting I couldn't eat it, the fish flavor over powdered the soup , and the lettuce on my turkey sandwich was wilted and brown, they didn't put much mayonnaise on the bread so it was just very plain. My partner ordered the turkey melt and fries. He said the fries were great good flavor, nice and crispy and the sandwich was decent. He said it tasted all right. Nothing too special

Country fried chicken steak with biscuits and gravy

One of my favorite local breakfast spots in the area. Service has always been friendly and great. The inside feels like a homey diner spot and I love it! American breakfast foods are pretty simple. Their menu is pretty extensive for breakfast foods but they also have lunch options. I always always get the same thing - 2 ergs breakfast with sausage patties, crispy hasbrowns, and sourdough bread. Crispy hasbrowns are a must!! Their biscuits and gravy are also delicious. Chicken fried steak hits if you're looking for something heavier and meatier. Honestly, can't go wrong with any of their breakfast items. I'll always be coming here when I'm in the area :) it's a locals favorite too!

We stopped by this cafe for breakfast between my son's game. Everything was amazing, the service was top-notch, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was very chill and relaxing. I highly recommend the corned beef hash, and my son enjoyed the chicken and waffles.

We found this restaurant while searching on Yelp for a place to eat lunch in Newberry Park. You don't find it by driving by or while shopping at a mall. It is located on an industrial alleyway (hence the name Side Street). But definitely worthwhile going a little out of your way to find. There is ample free parking in the alleyway. The inside seating is fairly small and there are a few tables out front on the patio. They have a breakfast and lunch menu. I went with the Cobb Salad off the lunch menu ($17). A fairly large portion with the typical Cobb ingredients (lots of bacon!!!). My buddy got the Grilled Chicken Salad ($14). A large serving of the chicken on top. Both salads fresh and tasty. Service was fairly quick and very friendly. Very good spot for an informal lunch.

Side Street is a super cute (albeit small) breakfast/lunch cafe! It's popular for a reason. I never fail to have an amazing experience when I go. The staff are all so welcoming and kind, and you'll never wait long on your food/drinks. The Denver omelette is an obsession of mine (it's my go-to at any breakfast joint). It was by far one of the best I've had! I do wish they served maybe avocado and salsa with it, but even without those, it was great. I asked for strawberries instead of mixed fruit as my side and got a decent amount. The prices are a little on the higher end, but not terrible when compared to other local cafes. Highly recommend stopping in!

Pecan waffle combo

Stopped off for breakfast on our way to Paso Robles. Menu is pretty extensive for a small diner and has a lot to offer for breakfast and lunch. Had the pecan waffle combo and it was just right!! Good size portions (couldn't finish the waffle)! My husband enjoyed a dish with both his favorites (Eggs Benedict corned beef hash). Service was quick and friendly. Place gives a good local vibe. I can see why it is a local favorite. Staff was very friendly! Would definitely recommend!

I then decided that this would be my post-race meal. Fast forward to the next day, sore legs and all, I still wanted this as my post-race meal, so I placed a to-go order knowing that this would be the best option for me to get food right away. When I got to the Thousand Oaks area, I wish I had more time to have my meal properly, sitting down at the restaurant, but I took my order back to my car and chowed down quickly so I would have enough time to get to the airport. My vegan chicken and waffles were essentially a Belgian waffle topped with fried oyster mushrooms, accompanied with syrup and a side of mixed fruit. I couldn't stomach the fruit, but I the oyster mushrooms posing as chicken were delicious!! Especially with syrup on top. The waffle could have been thicker and crisper, as the one I was trying was soft in texture like a thawed out frozen waffle. Next time I am in Cali, I would love to stop by and have a sit down meal properly inside the restaurant. It was such a gorgeous day for brunch and while I couldn't take in the full experience, I am glad I enjoyed a delicious meal.

Everything was delicious, but I could only make it through half--this is absolutely a dish you could share. Great food, great service, and a really nice atmosphere. We'll definitely be adding this spot to our regular rotation!

From the moment you walk in, the staff makes you feel like family. They go out of their way to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere that keeps you coming back again and again. The food is unreal. If you're a chili fan, this place is a MUST-visit -- they have FOUR different house-made chili options that increase in spice level, and each one is fantastic. And if you love French toast, do yourself a favor and order the flaked French toast... you will not regret it. Pro tip: try the off-menu chili tater tots at least once. Get the second-hottest chili and load up the toppings -- seriously incredible. The décor has a great local farm-to-table vibe, there's a full bar, and TVs to catch games while you eat. It somehow feels cozy and lively at the same time. Honestly, this might be the best-kept secret in the county -- but it shouldn't stay a secret. More people need Café ViVi in their lives. At the time the dining room was sparsely populated, only a few other tables were seated. We were seated quickly by the hostess and ordered within a few minutes of sitting down; my wife ordered the seafood pasta I ordered the butternut squash ravioli and the tomato burrata salad as an appetizer. After about 20 minutes the waitress returned to let us know that they were out of the pasta, so my wife asked for the risotto instead. The salad arrived quickly, however my wife noted that it was missing grilled peaches that were listed in the menu description, a disappointment. The salad itself was balsamic dressed cherry tomatoes with a single piece of burrata on top. Another 40 minutes later our entrees finally arrived. Much to my dismay my dish lacked any appreciable character; it was as if they had cooked six month old frozen pasta and thrown up a brown sauce with fried sage on top. My wife's risotto was mostly cheese but was also similarly devoid of other flavors. Now to be fair to the folks here, I did mention to the waitstaff that the flavors in the food were off and they did reduce the bill. They were also apologetic about the wait we faced. Nevertheless, restaurants have three things they need to do well in order to be successful: food, service and ambience. Perhaps if they improved the quality of the food and the time to service more people would come. Needless to say, but I won't be returning.

I'd been wanting to go back and take Dear Hubby to enjoy this very special re-imagining of the previous space, which had been an Irish pub incarnation. When our sister-in-law and two nieces were in town, the five of us were able to spend a quick evening together at Selvin's. We had been working on a project at our house, and by the time we got finished and ready to go out there wasn't a lot of time left as we went on a weeknight and they close at 9:00. I'm surprised that having a full bar, and being attached to a hotel property, that they would hang it up so early - even 9:30 or 10:00 would make more sense. It's such a charming place; seems a shame to have to call it a night so early. The ambiance is absolutely divine, especially out here in suburbia. It's very innovative in its layout. The lighting was carefully planned and is very effective in creating a special mood. And, what can be said about the wall of roses? It's tailor-made for snapping fun photos, that's for sure. The chef is sending out creative and Dee-Licious dishes from the kitchen. Yes, I know how to spell delicious, but it is worth adding the accented flair to stating the fact that this is a cut above many other dining establishments in the Conejo Valley. Dear Hubby and I shared Pappardelle Pasta and a Tuna Tartare appetizer. Both were excellent. One of our nieces ordered the taco platter. Wait till you see the photo. The only thing that was disappointing, menu-wise, was that bread wasn't included, so we ordered some as a side. Two little slices. I've forgotten the price, but I recall that it turned into sticker shock when we saw what was served. I'm tickled that they offer a nice array of zero proof cocktail options. They aren't inexpensive - apparently spirits without alcohol aren't any less (or maybe only slightly less?) than the full-spirited options. Still, it's nice to have the option. Our out of town family members LOVED Selvin's; it was a big hit with all of us. As an added bonus, there was a guitarist playing beautiful acoustic music when we arrived and were seated in the lounge area. Major extra credit!
