A great late breakfast experience to be sure. Service was quick, polite, and very accurate, something getting more rare these days. The interior was clean and quite pleasant. Drinks were good, and they were kept full for our entire visit. I had the ribeye and eggs and considering this is a local diner with the normal grill, the ribeye was cooked med well and had a wonderful flavor to it. My wifes ABC omelette was a hit as well, she got tater tots with hers. They still feature their homemade salsa and strawberry preserves, and those are both personal favorites. Tio's Cafe is a solid breakfast spot that serves reasonable portions for a reasonable price. The food won't blow you away, but the service is quick, there's plenty of parking, and there usually isn't a wait. We ordered the California omelette, Denver omelette, and Belgium waffle combo. None of these were something to write home about, but they got the job done. If you're considering any of these dishes, maybe try something else and hopefully you'll be more impressed than we were. I only recommend Tio's for Simi Valley and Moorpark locals. Anyone thinking of driving from further out should be able to find a similar diner closer to home. read more

Tio's Café is spacious with bar, table, booth seating. Breakfast & lunch but used to serve dinners back in the day. Basic American diner with Mexican accents. 1) Machaca Burrito: Nice, stretchy, taut, flour tortilla surrounding home fry potatoes, that doesn't have crispiness from being cooked on a steel grill, bits of Res Deshebrada/shredded beef, green bellpepper, tomato, onion, eggs sautéed together. Steak Knife stabbed into the center of the Burrito for dramatic effect. It was like the final coup de grâce at a bull fighting ring. Loose, watery Salsa is cooked with onions, green chiles, tomato, touch of vinegar. Wish there was more pronounced garlic component for more allium earthiness, touch of oregano for smoky, green tar herbal tone. 2) Another time, had bland, goopy Pot Roast that had bits of beef, mushrooms, carrot, onion in a brown gravy that lacked Umami and had way too much corn starch thickener. Substituted Mashed Potato with Frijoles de Pinto sprinkled with faux parmesan. Steamed broccoli that seemed coated with a bit of mayonnaise. Tortilla de Maís went well to scoop up this wet dinner. 3) Crispy on the outside, creamier on the inside fried Churros with sprinkling of sugar, cinnamon, cajeta/caramel. Scoop of vanilla ice cream, whip cream. 3a) Standard Iced Tea No wow moment of culinary excitement, but food here is stolidly competent, consistent, Prices are good. One of my favorite brunch spots in Simi! Their mimosas are small but mighty, everything here is fresh and so tasty!! I love the linguica sausage with eggs, hashbrowns ( you can ask them to make it on the crispier side) and sourdough toast. Their steak omelet, burgers and breakfast burritos are big and filling too. Walked into this quiet little cafe and only saw 3 other people in the place. That had me worried as a slow restaurant is usually not a great spot. 10 minutes later the place was hopping. Old, young, friends and families were all walking into the place. I started with some coffee and was happy to see that they brought a tall coffee cup so I would not run out quickly. The menu for breakfast has something for everyone. Even my child who only likes chicken and fries found food to drool over. The staff was super attentive and very friendly. Glad that I didn't let the bland front entrance deter me from trying Tio's Cafe. Once inside, a warm, clean environment waited for us. Dear Hubby told me that he'd stopped in a couple of times when he had been in the area, but our recent visit was my first time. It's wider and deeper inside than I expected. It boasts a diner-style counter, which is convenient for those dining alone. A number of comfortable booth-style tables fill most of the dining room. Several TVs also line the walls on two sides, along with vintage-look canvas photos to add to the ambiance. There's not a true theme to the decor, but it provides a low-key comfortable atmosphere. It appears spotlessly clean. Our server was prompt, helpful, and kept checking on us. Five stars for him! I knocked off a star as the food was on the bland side. I guess it's not the right season of the year for flavorful, juicy tomatoes. The "T" in my BLT was not memorable, which brought down the whole sandwich. Bacon was well-prepared and generous. The fries were hot but also bland. I'd had better ones recently at Arby's, of all places. I often sub for fries, but I was in the mood to order them, and Tio's didn't quite hit the spot. They did have other options, including onion rings, sweet potato fries, side salad, cottage cheese, etc. Their menu is quite extensive, and they serve breakfast all day, except for waffles. We will definitely return to try other items that vary from their fitness selections to sandwiches / burgers, and comfort-food choices. When we first arrived just after 5:00, we almost had the place to ourselves, but by the time we were finishing, the interior was filling in nicely. A great spot for a comfort meal. Came here with my mom for breakfast and really enjoyed everything; from the food to the experience. The restaurant is of good size and has plenty of tables plus a bar you can sit at as well. Their coffee is really good and served in mugs that are quite big which is nice. They have a lot of options on their menu but I went with a traditional breakfast plate that comes with two eggs, sausage or bacon (I chose bacon), house potatoes and toast (I ordered an English muffin) other plates come with different variations of this. My mom got something similar but with bacon instead of sausage and pancakes instead of potatoes. The food came out really quick and was delicious! They have plenty of condiments already at the table for you to use. Or waiter was friendly and I never saw the bottom of the my coffee mug! The pancakes are oh so fluffy and delicious by the way! I've only been here for breakfast/brunch and I've enjoyed everything I've ordered. There are plenty of great options, corned beef hash, omelets and many Mexican and American options. I recommend their homemade salsa for a nice kick to your food. They also have a nice selection of jams at each table. I really like their home fries/potatoes, they cube them up and are cooked perfectly, nice light crispy on the outside, soft inside and not dry, and the right amount of seasoning. Service is pretty good and on top of coffee refills and checking in to make sure everything is good, nothing is missing and generally making sure the table is having a good experience. They have a good amount of space inside and a couple tables outside. It can get pretty busy during peak times like Sundays but all things considered I have yet to wait more than 10-15mins to be seated. The parking lot has plenty of space so that's a plus. All together I highly recommend. I'm not local and make the trip from the San Fernando Valley to eat here. read more

Came here for dinner. Great food, service, Ambience, background music and TV. Fair prices. Breakfast all day which made my child happy. She got the pancakes which were Mickey Mouse shape. It came with eggs and sausage. No photo because they tore into it. We had the burger combo. Solid good ol burger with seasoned fries and deli pickle. The food is ok. Not the best, but my 84 year old mom likes the place. They tend to caters to an older crowd. I don't mind going there, but what happened the other day really made me mad, just on the principal. We arrived to the restaurant at about 9:45. At about 9:50, they brought us water and menus. We looked at the menu and had or selections, with menus on the table, within 2 mins. My mom had decided to get the Early Bird Special. This option was only good until 10am. We were there in plenty of time. We waited for our server to come back to our table. He was running around helping other customers, then decided to stop at a table, where it seemed one of his friends was sitting at. They were talking, laughing and basically bullshitting. This went on for about 10 mins or so. He finally came over to take our order. My mom ordered first and told him she wanted the Early Bird Special. He looked at his handheld device and said "I'm sorry, that ends at 10 o'clock". I looked at my phone and it was literally 10:02. I looked at him and said "Seriously?". He said his device wouldn't let him put the order in, because it locks at 10:00. I was bothered because now my mom had to order a bigger meal, that she couldn't finish, and it was because the server was bullshitting with his friend, instead of taking our order. Granted, it was only a couple dollars more, but we were in the door 15 min prior to 10:00. We were ready to order in plenty of time, but his slow service was to blame. There were other customers in the restaurant, but they are not the reason for the slow service, it was that our server was bullshitting with his friend. He should have given my mom the meal she wanted and made it work somehow. I highly doubt his machine "locks", and he had no other option to fix his mistake. We won't be going back. Woke up early this morning and realized we were out of eggs. My son wanted a chicken fried steak and eggs. I called Tio's and jackpot they had chicken fried steak on the menu so I ordered that with hash browns and sourdough toast. I decided on a breakfast burrito. The gentleman on the phone told me 11 minutes and my order would be ready. I hopped in the car and headed over. Once inside there was a couple of customers at different tables. I was greeted promptly and I sat down at the counter. I paid and waited for my order. The server brought me a cup of coffee and a small metal bucket of various creamer options. He said they were working on the order and it would be a few more minutes. What a nice over the top move. It was just a cup of coffee but above and beyond customer service. I appreciated it. I sipped the coffee and it was a really good strong cup of coffee. Better than your average diner. As I took my last sip of coffee my order was packed up and ready to go. I headed home to unveil a massive piece of meat, a heaping mound of scrambled eggs and golden brown hash browns. My son at the whole thing and said it was really good. The breakfast burrito had home style potatoes with peppers and onions, cheddar cheese, bacon and scrambled eggs. The filling barley fit in the the tortilla. The homemade salsa was a great addition to the burrito. Overall a great meal. Better than most breakfast places in town. On a side note they have mimosas, Bloody Mary's beer wine and Michelada's so we will definitely come back and try brunch here. read more
