First time visit to this quaint little spot in Simi Valley. The decor is kitschy in this small cozy diner. Whenever I go to a breakfast spot, I always try the biscuits and gravy and they came highly recommended by our server. They were very friendly and sat us right away and the first thing they brought to us was their complimentary house coffee cake. I ordered biscuits and gravy with a side of bacon. The biscuits were as big as my face and tasted amazing. The gravy was a white gravy the kind you would normally find on a southern fried chicken steak. It was a very generous portion, however I prefer a more traditional gravy with sausage. Individually, though the gravy was tasty and the biscuits were tasty since they were both made from scratch. I decided to try something outside of my wheelhouse, like waffles, and they were actually pretty decent. Extra butter and syrup really helped though. I stopped by this restaurant in the morning to grab breakfast. Since I came right when they open, I was able to get the parking spot in the small plaza this restaurant is in. When I walked inside, I was their first customer of the day. The waiter said I can sit anywhere I like so I say next to the window. I went with the breakfast burrito and got a cup of fruits as my side. I asked what salsa does it come with and the waiter said the green salsa. My food came out quick and it was delicious. The green salsa was not spicy at all. The cup of fruits was a mixed of watermelon, grapes and cantaloupe which was good. The customer service was great and I didn't have any issues. read more

This is a wonderful touch at this eatery. The last time I was here, a year ago, my choice was the Huevos Rancheros. This time, the visit was specifically targeted to try their Swedish Pancakes. I asked for the powdered sugar on the side, they obliged and even brought the butter and pancake syrup on the side. I like that. In the middle of the 4 medium sized pancakes, arranged in succession, was their Lingonberries jam. For me, the beauty of the Swedish pancake, is its thinness, texture and unique taste of the cooked batter, especially when it is optimally browned. This dish checked all the boxes. I savored it with a few dabs of the butter and the jam (intermittently),so I could thoroughly enjoy the flavor of the pancake. Service here is always attentive and well executed. Food was delicious. I had the chilaquiles with chorizo and my husband had the blueberry pancakes. Portions are huge. They serve you a small piece of coffee cake while you wait for your food. My only complaint was being boxed into a corner and having to ask the table next to us to stand up and move their chairs in order to get out of our booth. We had to wait for a somewhat felt like a loooong time, the food came out very late. Other table that came after me already finished their food. . I almost asked the staff if they forgotten about my table then I realized, good food take time, pancakes and salad are easier and faster. So be patient when they are busy. You won't regret it. At last, everything came. It's a bit on a warm side not hot but its delicious and we are happy. As soon as we are done, I asked for a box for my left over. I packed it. I put the fork down and another staff came to clean the table. He said, take your time, take your time then he dropped the knife on my right hand. I was startled and laughing and he apologized. Then he picked up other plate and again he said the same thing, ( I thought he probably was joking or sarcastically saying get out of here ) and then he dropped another knife on my right hand AGAIN. This time, I got a tiny poke? Cut? by the butter knife. This time, I wasn't smiling anymore because of the situation and I felt a little pain on my hand. We were driving looking for a different place my husband saw since we had drove up early from the OC to go to the Reagan Library, and we saw this sign for The Egg House, and are we glad we found it! From the moment we walked in, greeted and sat and immediately served this delicious coffee cake! It was myself, my husband and 17 year old son and we were all pleased they offered an "Athletes" menu. We ordered three main entrees and a side of fruit. The biscuits and gravy, the omlette, and the Hawaiian pancakes. We have ordered here before and had a great experience, but today we were very surprised to see extremely poor food quality. For one, they forgot the gravy to our biscuits and gravy, which was a huge disappointment. The eggs for the omelet were a rubbery glob with a slice of processed cheese melted on top. The pancakes themselves were of poor quality and the toppings looked so haphazardly placed that I had to laugh. As someone who works in food service, it was embarrassing to see. First, let me tell you that we were so impressed by this place that we went back and ate there THREE DAYS IN A ROW!!! I'm sure other places are lovely for breakfast, but it was just such a pleasure and a privilege to dine at a place that has excellent food, is well-run, and has happy employees, we couldn't go elsewhere! Food? Excellent quality with appropriate portions for a reasonable price! The coffee was strong and delicious. Over the course of our three days of dining, we had the Monte Cristo with fruit, Chorizo and Eggs with rice and beans and flour tortillas, Banana Nut Pancakes with Bacon, the Uncle Joey as a soft scramble with a biscuit and gravy, the Florence Italy as a soft scramble with fruit and sourdough toast, and the Machaca con Huevos with rice and beans and flour tortillas. All of these plates were hands-down delicious, but the stand-outs were the Monte Cristo, the beans, the bacon, and the Florence Italy. I'm not a lover of French Toast, but the Monte Cristo was perfectly cooked; saturated but not soggy! The sweetness of the cinnamon bread combined so well with the salty turkey, ham, and cheese. Everyday one of us ate the fruit and it was always ripe and tasty. The house made beans were a treat. They tasted like your abuela made them! Get the bacon! It's perfectly cooked; not too crisp, but not rare. It's a bit sweet, and again, a taste treat! The Florence Italy with fresh tomatoes, spinach and mushrooms was "iced" with Hollandaise. Amazing! Service? Best ever, bar none! When you walk in, you're immediately shown to your table, and asked for your beverage order. It comes immediately, along with a complimentary piece of coffee cake. The menu is extensive, so the servers keep checking back to make sure they take your order promptly. Everyone was so cheerful and welcoming! On Saturday, the owner was present, and the employees were still cheerful! Everything runs like a well-oiled machine. The owner leads by example. In "down" time, he was wiping down the coffee machine, or cleaning the doors to the kitchen, or running to the door to greet a regular. Ambiance? The decor is fun and kitschy and completely dust-free! The windows are kept clean. The place is spotless! The ceilings are high which lends an airy feel to the place. The outside waiting and dining area is a touch sparse, but they've obviously done what they can with the limitations they have. The signage could be better as we drove by it and entered the wrong parking area but obviously, if you're a local, you know where it is! I will be coming back to Simi Valley in part because of the Grand Vista Hotel, but mainly because I can't think of a better breakfast and lunch place than The Egg House! read more

Growing up in Moorpark/Simi Valley area I would always drive by and see a huge line of people waiting out the door. After years of passing by I finally gave it a try. I hate saying it but despite the staff being so friendly the food was so so so bad. The Egg House in Simi Valley is a breakfast spot located on a pretty busy street. Parking is a little bit difficult from my experience, because the lot is small and shared with other businesses. When my boyfriend and I walked in, the restaurant was packed & loud, which I thought was a good sign! The restaurant itself is on the smaller side and the decor is slightly dated. Since there were no empty tables, we waited for about ten minutes to get seated. I was very hungry and eager to start ordering. We were seated at a booth with slightly wet seats, since the table was just cleaned from the previous party. Two minutes in, I saw a small spider crawl across the table and onto my menu. I'm a baby when it comes to spiders, so I had a mental breakdown (I'm half-joking) as my bf killed the spider. Our waiter took our orders, and the food took a bit long to arrive (30-40 min). They were quite busy, and I'm not usually one to complain about service time, but ya girl was hungry and sad :( Anyways, when we got the food I started chowing down immediately. The verdict? Not bad! The corn beef hash was hearty and hit the spot. The berry french toast was good, but I prefer Blu Jam for french toast. My bf didn't like the grits that much - he had to add butter and other seasonings in order to make it taste as good as his standards. The waiter removed the coffee from our bill because of the wait time, which was very nice! Overall, this is a good place, but not somewhere I would frequent. Food is good but there are other breakfast & brunch places in the valley that I prefer.
