If I wanted to gaslight someone that it was that late 80s early 90s I would 100% take them here. This place is separated into two sections which is almost certainly what used to be a smoking and non smoking section and the prices are LOW. My mom and I went to lunch here and with a generous tip it was about $20 for the both of us. I can't remember the last time I paid so little for such genuinely good food. The crowd is older and the service while good is a little slower which makes sense because the crowd that frequents this place doesn't exactly have to rush back from a lunch break. When it comes to local spots, 90% of why people go back is the service and feeling of knowing. When the food is above average, that's a huge plus. That said, and with a heavy heart, I feel the need to update my original 5-Star review with some honesty. Carriage Cafe was mine and my mom's weekly go-to Saturday spot. We were there every Saturday for several years (Ordered pickup through the pandemic even). The atmosphere was as you'd expect at a small local place, food was always good, and up until our final visit, service wasn't bad. That said, and it's been a while as I've debated even writing this but the influx of people finding my rave review helpful lately makes me feel the need to open up. About 2 years ago now, I took my mom there for our Saturday thing. Over the month or two prior, the place had lost a couple servers but I never saw any Help Wanted signs up so assumed they had things in the process with more help. The day we went, it was just the daughter serving, so as usual we went over to our regular booth and sat down. I could see the daughter was busy with several tables but she passed us multiple times with not so much as a glance and a smile. After about 15-20 minutes the mom (who does a lot of the cooking) comes out from the kitchen as she saw us, and took our drink order. About that time, the son shows up, looks right at us and doesn't wave, say hi, or anything. (Mind you we have been here every week for 3-4 years at this point so we aren't new faces). A couple groups come in as he's arriving, he goes straight to their tables and starts taking their orders. After another 10 minutes or so, my mom finishes her coffee, places a $5 on the table, and says "let's go". All this aside, I'm still willing to come back the following week as everyone has miscommunication or oversight at times....however, the straw that broke the proverbial camel's back was that neither the son or daughter even acknowledged us leaving as we passed them, and they allowed their mom to rush out from the kitchen, come to our car, and beg us to come back in...even offering the meals for free. As someone who is a "mama's boy", I could not fathom allowing my mom to chase down a customer and apologize for my lack of hospitality. Maybe they have hired help by now, I'm not sure...I hope they did as the restaurant is the livelihood of the mom and dad who are both very kind people. Should anything happen to them, I would bet this place will close not long after. We have changed to the Junk Yard as our weekly spot and in the time since, have been greeted with smiles, kindness, and outstanding service. read more

One of My Favorite Breakfast places in Simi, Food is Always good, fresh and the service is good. to Me it is like going back in time and reminds me of going out to breakfast as a kid. the Decor looks like it is from the 70s , I think it is cool that they kept it that way. Okay food and okay service right nearby the center of east Simi Valley. Hours are like 9am to 3pm so not all that handy, but they were very busy during our visit. Can't judge the food, as we didn't get a chance to try it. We all piled in the car excited to head over at about 8am, only to find out they don't open until 9, which is absurd to me. Obviously our fault for not looking at the hours but I never would have, in a million years, imagined a place that serves breakfast wouldn't open until 9am. That means we will literally never be able to try breakfast here based on our work schedules. ( I work Sundays and my husband works Saturdays.) I have a degree in restaurant management and 20 years in the food industry. If you serve breakfast, you should be open when breakfast time starts! (I.e. 7am or 8 the latest.) 3 stars because their hours make them inaccessible to most people who work normal business hours. read more

We wanted to try this place for breakfast because we read on the NextDoor app that the food was delicious and reasonably priced. When we entered we were told to go to a certain section. We waited awhile before anyone came to take our order but we decided we wanted to go to the other room that appeared more bright and cheery. The server in our area stopped us from moving by saying that it will take longer to be waited on there because there was only one server there for more tables. We sat down again and waited. We really wanted coffee but we had to wait until they brewed decaf. For a breakfast type cafe it took a while to order. My husband got an omelet and I got scrambled eggs. There was nothing special about it- something you could make at home. Our server was slow and we had to appeal to the other server to get refills of our coffee. Although the price was less than other breakfast places we've been to locally, my husband said he preferred spending almost double (as we did last week) to get better service and better food. read more

We decided to find a nice diner/cafe on Sunday for brunch. This place looked nice and not super pricey. We came in and it looked pretty busy, so definitely come with some time as it can get packed on a Sunday. The servers were very friendly and took our order pretty fast. I ordered the 2 eggs breakfast meal with bacon, hash browns and a biscuit. It was very good. I think the only thing I'd warn is it's a popular location for locals so the wait for seating/food might be a tad longer because it's busy (which is a good thing as the food is good). read more

This is a really nice place to go to breakfast. It isnt to expensive and even on a Saturday morning it wasn't to crowded. The food is always good and they have an excellent cup of coffee. It is very laid back and casual. They have a nice variety on the menu. It's the regular dinner type food. Staff is friendly enough. Its cozy and comfortable. It is one of the better places to go for breakfast in Simi Valley. It's been around for quite awhile. Carriage Cafe is one of those old cafes that have been around for years. It's like a stereotypical small town cafe that you can go to early in the morning or late at night. Reasonably priced for one of the best quality foods around. I've been to many cafes and not many can stack up to it. And don't even compare think about comparing it to iHop, Denny's or even Eggs & Things. Eggs & Things is great mind you, but you don't get that friendly, small town, mom and pop cafe like you do with Carriage Cafe.
