My husband and I ordered pineapple margaritas when we sat down, but they didn't arrive until 20 minutes after we had already finished eating. To make matters worse, we weren't even offered water while we waited. When our server finally brought the drinks, he informed us they were out of pineapple and handed us two mango margaritas instead--without checking with us first. We accepted them just because we were so thirsty, but unfortunately, they tasted terrible. Great tacos, but the lack of communication and poor service ruined the experience. BEST Mexican restaurant in Simi Valley!! It's traditional Mexican food, but with a modern twist! I got ceviche with rice, beans, and a Mexican coke. It was finger licking good! The ceviche had plenty of shrimp in it! Such a great amount of protein. I'm typically very particular about shrimp texture, this was absolutely perfect. Cooked to perfection and so moist! It was topped with mango, which paired so deliciously with the lime. Avocado and cucumbers with tajin were also included. And I got 4 small tostadas, crackers, and tapatio packets on the side. Extremely disappointed with our experience. I called the restaurant the day before to ask if reservations were required because we were planning to come watch the World Cup game with a group of seven people. I was specifically told that reservations were not needed and that seating was on a first-come, first-served basis. To be safe, we arrived two hours early, only to be told that we actually did need reservations. We were shocked because we had called ahead specifically to avoid this exact situation. We ended up wasting our time and had to scramble to find another place that could accommodate our group. What made the experience even worse was the way the staff handled it. While my dad was calmly trying to speak with the employees at the front desk to understand what happened, they literally walked away from him instead of listening or trying to resolve the issue. That level of disrespect and lack of customer service was unacceptable. If the restaurant has different policies for major events like the World Cup, they need to communicate that clearly and make sure all employees are giving customers accurate information. Between the misinformation and the dismissive attitude from the staff, this was a terrible experience. This was my second time visiting Kalaveras. The first time was when they had just opened, so I don't remember much about that experience. My second visit was this past week, and it definitely left a good impression. My husband and I stopped in for a daytime date to watch the USA FIFA game. We grabbed seats at the bar, which gave us a great view of the big screen. There were plenty of TVs throughout the restaurant as well, making it a great spot to catch a game. The service was friendly and attentive, and I was pleasantly surprised by their lunch menu. There were lots of options, and the prices were very reasonable. We ordered the chile relleno combo; which comes with an enchilada, beans and rice. It was honestly more than enough food for us to share. We also ordered the tinga taquitos. Everything came out hot, fresh, and delicious. For drinks, I started with the spicy cucumber margarita, which was easily a 10/10. It was so good that we ended up ordering a pitcher to share. I stopped by this Kalaveras to take advantage of their happy hour. When I came, they were not busy at all. There was tons of parking spots near the front and barely any other guest inside. I sat at the bar area so I could watch the soccer game playing. I got the spicy buffalo wings from the happy hour menu. I think it's a great deal because you get eight bone in buffalo wings. They also give chips and salsa as complimentary. I like the chips and salsa, it had a nice spice to it. My buffalo wings came out quick and it was good to me. When I sat at the bar I did see some small flies flying around, so the bartender used a fly zapper swatter to get the small flies around the bar area. He was just walking around the bar area and you'll hear the zap from time to time. It would discourage some guest or gross them out but it didn't bother me. The customer service I received here was great, I didn't have any issues when I was dining at the restaurant. There was no loud music that Kalaveras is known for when I was there but it could be because they save it for the night time. read more

The real problems that caused it to be 3 starts was service was incredibly slow. It took an absurdly long time to get drunk orders in, food order in, refills, and the check. It wasn't packed nor slow but u would assume with the pricetags (quite high) attached to their food and drinks, they could afford more waiters if that was the problem with the mediocre service. It was also uncomfortably loud in there. I had to talk ridiculously loudly to be heard by my group. The place is definitely a vibe, just not for me. Maybe good for parties and the such? I went with some friends few days ago. We were celebrating my friend's birthday. Our waiter was nice but we didn't like the fact that we ordered one bottle of white wine and it came warm. Seen this place for awhile. Saw they had lunch at$13.99 so we tried it today. Ordered 2 crispy tacos,Ric and beans. Those were good but the taco's are not good. Large chunks of stewed pork that wasn't carnitas. Carnitas is partially fried. They should chop it up and make a crispy taco properly. Very little lettuce, although there was chopped cabbage under them and very little cheese. Poor production of those tacos. I could do way better at home. Decent salsa.
