Kalaveras Simi Valley is the move. I came in expecting tacos... left with serotonin. The food? Absolute fuego. The drinks? Dangerous. But what really made it? The vibe--and the two gorgeous girls working that night who were sweet, funny, and made me feel like a VIP. Service with a smile and a little sparkle? Yes please. 10/10 would come back just to vibe and maybe shoot my shot over margaritas. If you're reading this... you already know who you are. read more

I went with some friends few days ago. We were celebrating my friend's birthday. Our waiter was nice but we didn't like the fact that we ordered one bottle of white wine and it came warm. Like seriously warm white wine? So disappointed. We told him, he didn't know what to say, and so he gave tried to fixed his mistake telling us to put ice cubes in the wine. Seriously wine with ice? Food was okay. A lot of food btw. Place very clean. It was the wine the whole mistake cause if you don't have cold white wine just tell the customer the truth and they can choose if they take it like that or not instead just give them a bad experience. read more

This is my third time here. I've also been to the one in El Segundo. We got here during lunchtime and it wasn't that many people. I came with a party of eight and our food came out pretty quickly. Ton of chips and salsa. The salsa is not the most flavorful, I wish I had more spice and salt. Carne asada fries were absolutely delicious. It was my first time having them and I literally almost ate the entire thing. I left stuffed. Wet burrito - really delicious came out nice and hot it was packed and flavorful Quesa birria - so flavorful and packed with protein. Kalaveras salad - huge salad so refreshing and I had someone order shrimp and someone ordered chicken. I recommend the shrimp. It is extremely flavorful. I love this dish to get all my greens. I love this side of beans and rice. It comes on a full plate. Open parking in the lot and it's free read more

Been here a few times now. The happy hour deals are amazing! The tacos and taquitos are my favorite to order. Everytime I've been here has been quite chill and great for chatting with friends and family. You can even get a birthday song for you! The service was okay. Our server didn't check in with the table after the orders. I couldn't get a water refill. And one of our group member arrived late and wasn't able to order. It's an overall good place. read more

Cool vibe Mexican restaurant for sure!! Definitely a much needed addition to restaurants in Simi Valley! They have quite the bar and tequila selection! Their drink menu is fancy however as tasty as the ones we tried were...? They seriously lacked alcohol! They're making a lot of money on their weak drinks no doubt! This restaurant is loud so be prepared!! Great for birthdays especially for those who like being the center of attention - very fun and wild! And their "special Happy Birthday Show" is only for those who buy the 6 candy shot pkg (which are kind of gross and lack alcohol) and at $10 each? What a way to rob your customers! Come on Kalaveras! You could do so much better! The service was "good" yet our young server was very preoccupied with visiting with friends at the bar and failed to check on us with long stints of waiting to order another round. Our large table of 11 were decently tended to... Your servers definitely need better training in food/customer service. It was very busy because it was Taco Tuesday - a popular deal for $1.49 tacos but again be prepared for tiny street tacos with maybe a tablespoon of meat! Not sure if I'd call that a deal. This place really could be sooo much better! I hope they last! Great location and much needed for simple Simi Valley. read more

Don't let the outside sign fool ya!! We were regulars to Sundays brunch! No more bottomless mimosas you are charged $20 extra on top of the brunch price and they changed champagne to a a cheap brand had no flavor! I was drinking a watered down hibiscus so called mimosa! Also the brunch Food had no flavor! Food was cold! Ladies Room filthy dirty w/no soap or paper towels. Zero stars for Kalaveras but I'm giving a star for our server Gemma, she's always great! read more

Kalaveras - Bottomless Mimosas are $20 more to your brunch! - Cocktail Bars Near Me - Simi Valley, California

Kalaveras, is a Mexican Restaurant and Bar, that has several locations in California. The closest spot for me was the destination at Simi Town Center in Simi Valley. I stopped by for lunch. Walking in, one is immersed in a well designed and decorated space that includes just the right amount of neon lighting. The music selection is super and the tables stand out elegantly with simple, but striking plate settings (see my many pictures of the interior). It is a different and nice welcoming ambiance. The complimentary salsa rojo and chips were good, but I needed more kick so I asked for their picante version. This salsa amarilla was right on the money, good heat, optics and texture. For the main, I ordered two tacos. One, a carne asada, the other with camarones. Both were mild in flavor but tasty, with the shrimp taco at the right temperature. The steak taco would have blended better if the meat was hot or warm, at the least. Instead, it was at ambient temperature. The menu has several other enticing selections. There are reasonably priced specials every day, especially in the alcohol department (see my photos). Definitely worth many more return visits. read more

The flowers on the ceiling and wall were nice, and the server was nice once he finally showed us attention, but that's about the only positives. I'm actually surprised this is a franchise, because our food just wasn't good, and it was twists on traditional Mexican food, but not even done well. For example, the guacamole wasn't smashed, so there were big chunks of avocado that broke the chips. They added some type of cheese on top which took away from the flavor. The dragon roll was okay, some of our party liked it, others didn't, but none of us felt the need to order it again. The fajitas were a disappointment. The steak was bland and chewy, the veggies had no flavor, and the chicken was also bland. The shrimps were the shining star of the fajitas, but there's only a handful. Lastly, the music was very loud. We went early afternoon and it sounded like a night club even though there were only a few tables there. Unfortunately we won't be back, too many other Mexican places in the area to give this one another try. read more

Seen this place for awhile. Saw they had lunch at$13.99 so we tried it today. Ordered 2 crispy tacos,Ric and beans. Those were good but the taco's are not good. Large chunks of stewed pork that wasn't carnitas. Carnitas is partially fried. They should chop it up and make a crispy taco properly. Very little lettuce, although there was chopped cabbage under them and very little cheese. Poor production of those tacos. I could do way better at home. Decent salsa. My wife had the chicken tostada salad and it was ok, but not worth $14. Won't go back. And why does it take so long to get your check and leave?. Crazy bull crap read more

Have been here a couple times and the food is always a standout. This time I got the taquitos which ate like a meal. Be warned though, if you go in the evening especially on the weekends, it does have a night club feel (they sometimes have a dj lol). If you want to avoid that, come during the day time, either way it's worth the visit. read more

Recently came here with my family for dinner. We were a large table so I always anticipate service issues but the service was actually really good...the ambiance and quality of the food is the reason for my low review. Perhaps it was our fault for trying to have a family dinner there - but the atmosphere is much more of a party vibe. From the moment we sat down the music was so loud you couldn't even hear the person across from you. The food was very mediocre - Nothing to run back for... read more

First time coming here! Came on a weekday. around noon. Very empty! we were seated immediately and great service.... Waiter was very attentive and making sure he was available at all times. Either for ordering food, refills or questions. The ambiance some louder music but great choices of reggaeton, cumbia mainly spanish. Decor was such a vibe and great place to celebrate birthdays. Food!!!!! Omg delicious! big servings! can feed (2) with one plate! I ordered green enchiladas... they were good and OMG their beans are great lol I would come back! and off the freeway. price range $16-$35 read more

I ate here once a long time ago and it sucked so I decided to give it one more try. I waited to be sat for what seemed like 10 to 15 minutes. A waiter acknowledge just a few times and kept doing what he was doing. Finally, someone came and saw us. Then we sat in our booth for another at least 15 minutes. No water nothing. Finally got up and left and went to Don Cuco's instead and had an awesome time with awesome food and awesome service. This place is still fucking sucks. read more

Kalaveras is such a vibe! From the moment we walked in, the energy was amazing. The cocktail bar is top-tier -- beautifully presented drinks, strong but smooth, and super creative. The karaoke made the night even better! Great sound system, fun crowd, and the staff kept everything moving smoothly. It's the perfect spot if you're looking for a fun night out with friends. read more

I've been to several of these locations, and the brunch is consistently great! The food, drinks, and vibe make it a fun weekend spot. That said, I do find the menu a bit pricey outside of brunch for what you get--but it's still enjoyable overall. What really stands out is the atmosphere. Simi Valley doesn't have a lot of local spots like this, so it's nice to have a place nearby that feels a little more lively and modern. Definitely worth checking out, especially for brunch! read more

We had an experience!! The place has a cool vibe with a bit of a younger crowd. We were in town for my Aunts funeral and after a long travel day we wanted to grab dinner. It was very loud and we could hardly hear eachother. The food prices were a bit high but the food was good and had large portions. We had a couple margaritas which were tasty and refreshing. It was someone's birthday and the place erupted with a whole parade with sparklers and music. It was fun to see and experience. I would come here again. read more

Ordered take out and the bag ripped open because the consome wasn't closed properly which caused it to leak and rip the bag. Kalaveras in Simi Valley is a 10/10 restaurant! We go there almost every other week! The food is amazing, the music is always great and the experience is simply fun. My favorite dish is the chicken taquitos and my husband has tried every enchilada and swears the best is the shrimp enchilada. It is a great place to celebrate birthdays and in the evenings the music is blasting with a live DJ. The servers are always working hard and are super friendly. We finally attended for a brunch and it is the most fun brunch for miles. The buffet has such an incredible spread and the desserts are stellar. Overall, you should definitely go here. read more

All these bad reviews are old. People didn't understand the concept when they first opened here. We've been 3 times and last night was our first Saturday night and wow what a party! We came in after another disappointing night market and were so glad we did! Our waitress Kaylee i believe was her name was awesome! She took great care of us. We ordered the potato taquitos and shrimp taco and it was bomb! Had a few different margaritas, some beers and when the shot train came around we have to grab a couple! My spouse had to get up and dance cause the DJ killed it. I can't wait to celebrate a birthday here. It is loud on weekend nights so be prepared, but you'll have a blast! read more

It's been awhile since we visited, glad we decided to stop in for the $1.49 tacos on Tuesday. We ended up trying the new fajitas on the menu. I got veggie and my husband had the chicken. Both were delicious. If you enjoy loud music and good food this is the place for you. read more

It was my birthday yesterday and my husband and I decided to check out Kalaveras. It's located in the same plaza by Lowe's in Simi Valley. The parking lot was filled on a Wednesday evening and we found a spot. Our server was Jair and he brought amazing energy to the vibrant restaurant. The ambiance felt very trendy and young, which thankfully we still enjoy in our 30's hahaha. It was happy hour on Mon-Fri 3-7pm and we were able to enjoy the $5 off Mezcal cocktails for Wednesdays. I got the Fuego de Dragon ($13) and it came in a really cool smokey coffin presentation by the waitress. My husband go the HH hazy IPA ($5.50). We shared the HH Esquite ($10) that had the most spice on it compared to the complimentary chips and red salsa. We both ordered 2 tacos from the HH selection ($3.50 each) and everything in it was good except the taco was breaking down the fold with all the juicy meats and toppings on it so it was kinda messy to eat. I also got a guavarita from their summer margaritas and it was a refreshing drink ($4.99). They also do special birthday celebration song and drink for a presentation which was really fun!! We were there maybe only an hour to dine and drink and all our food and beverages came out FAST and hot, which I really like. Again, I would come again and see if we can get served by Jair because he was the best! He always checked on us, brought us more chips and our plates were cleared right away when they were done. We need more energetic and fun people like Jair! :D read more

****WARNING: DINE HERE AT YOUR OWN RISK**** NAKARYD was our server and she was the absolute worst!!!!! She spent more time dancing and playing with her coworkers in the kitchen than checking to see if we needed anything. Our food came out..we had no plates, napkins, or silverware to eat. After waiting for nearly ten minutes I got up and went to the kitchen and asked for what I needed. Following this she never came back to check on us. She was eating and dancing with her coworkers and then stood at the computer for over an hour to make herself seem busy. The food was not flavorful and it came out lukewarm. Idk how this is Mexican food but you're better off going to Taco Bell!!! ****To add insult to injury, when I went to the restroom 4 servers went into the large stall together and were doing God knows what and walked out of the restroom without washing their hands!!!!!!!!!!!! That is a health and safety violation!!!!!!!***** This place is a dumpster fire and probably won't be here long read more

Worst experience of my life. We were told it would be a 15-20 minute wait for 2 people and ended up waiting 1 hour. At 25 min. I went up to the hostess to see how much longer the wait would be and she said we were next. 20 minutes go by and watching people walk in and get seated immediately so I go up to the hostess again and ask how much longer. She said she thought she had already sat us so she said our table was ready didn't apologize or anything.... We sit down at a table with the sun blinding us and didn't get water for 15 min. Then wait for another 10 for our waitress to come and ask if we're ready to order without looking at us on her iPad. We said yes and told her what we wanted to order to which she replied "hold on" and walked away all while not looking at us once or even saying sorry or excuse me. At that point it was just so beyond insane and rude we got up and left. Our server watched us get up and leave and didn't even try to stop us or apologize or anything. I have never experienced this type of treatment before. I get it if the kitchen was backed up or not enough people working that day, that's totally fine I'm patient but to have such a poor and rude attitude the whole time and not have the decency to apologize is insane. read more

This is the funnest place in the whole simi valley area. It's loud it's fun it's everything. If you want to have a great and fun time here is where you have to come. They give it their all!! The food is great. The ceviche was so fresh and just delicious. The guacamole was fresh, buttery and soft. El lomo saltado de res was juicy and tender the chimichuri was a bit spicy but good. The queso birria tacos with consume was good. El queso fundido was soo good. Their happy hour is the best around! I went for Taco Tuesday ($1.49 tacos & $8 Margaritas) but I'll definitely be coming back on a Monday for $20 pitchers (usually $40)! My table of 3 got pretty full after just ordering HH appetizers of Queso Fundido and Loaded Carne Asada Fries. The restaurant was very busy, so it was pretty slow service. It took awhile for us to get waters and we didn't get plates/silverware until after our food came. Also, the ambiance is LIVELY so be prepared! read more
