Food is ok but at extremely expensive prices. Not only is the plate of costillas with rice and beans 17.99. But also bad portions I came home with my plate of costillas and when I opened it, it only had three small pieces. I called back to see if that was the regular portion. Turns out the regular portion is 5 pieces. I was in awe because what do you mean you're going to charge me almost 20 bucks for a plate to only has 3 small pieces of meat and the kind of meat it is half of that portion is a bone. I personally love Socorro's. I've been going for years. Their sope and Gordita combo is the best. Their beans have a lot of flavor and theyre consistently good. I used to be a regular at this Socorro location and service was not the best but the food was good. Recently I was in the area and decided to stop and get my favorite dish carne en molcajete. Yikes! What happened the food is so blah, the meat was so chewy and had no taste swimming in a soupy consistency. Carne en molcajete is not supposed to be a soup. It's suppose to be saucy. The restaurant has not upgraded in my opinion it looks so rundown and definitely is not clean. What makes my experience bad is that the food prices at Socorro's are not cheap. Food is good. Service not good. I ordered food by phone for pick up, in my broken Spanish. My Non Spanish speaking son picked up the food. When he arrived he told them he was picking up a phone order, (they did not ask my name to identify the order-over the phone) he had to tell them what we ordered, they asked him Questions in Spanish, he didn't understand some words, he said the waitress was annoyed, while he was waiting, they made him feel uncomfortable, as he saw them giving him looks and he heard them say, no sabe español, in a not so nice way. He understands some, but can't pronounce enough to speak Spanish it. When the order was ready they didn't hand him the food, they just placed on the counter and waitress walked away. I love their Carne en Salsa de Molcajete Plate!!! It is probably one of my top favorite dishes to eat. Especially with their hand made tortillas! I usually get that and a pozole plate and share with my bf. Depending on what he wants we switch up the second plate but we always get the molcajete plate. I have to say, there was plenty of people eating here, most or all latinos, which is a good sign when eating at any mexican or latino establishment. In any event, I tried the costillitas de puerco (pork small ribs), they were tasty, served with rice and beans and handmade tortillas. I have to say, although they were good, they lacked something in taste. Not too sure if this is a place I would recommend, however, they do have a variety of plates or dishes that I would like to try that reminded me of the items my parents would cook as I was growing up. So I have been a customer sin 1994 in the Soccoro's in Van Nuys. When they came to Granada where I now reside, I was excited. I am sad to say that after several crappy encounters, I'm finally breaking up this toxic relationship. It is clear that the have no respect for customers. The wing turn on AC when it's 1,000 degrees outside, barely even a greet or smile, won't offer menus, won't write down orders, when they get orders wrong it's your fault, ignore special requests, run out of everything, once they laughed a customer who slipped and fell due to their negligence, the list goes on and on.
