OK wow!! I stopped by again but this time, it was my first time in their outdoor patio. And wow... it's like a whole other restaurant! It's absolutely stunning back there. It feels really high end and just lovely. Perfect for a date night or for a celebration. We ordered the molcajete and the fajitas. Both dishes were delicious! I also got the casa vega margarita which was good but on the small side... Good stuff but on the pricey end. Beautiful ambiance outside though. Definitely try and sit outside!
Casa Vega gives an authentic Mexican bar vibe. It's laid back, dark, comfortable and relaxed. The food menu is plentiful and the drinks are AMAZING. The service is always great and the atmosphere is welcoming. So if you are in the mood for an authentic Mexican experience, look no further than Casa Vega. It's actually an LA staple immersed I lots of history. Many pictures on the walls. Valet and street parking available.
A weekday lunch at Casa Vega with a buddy, so it was a low-risk proposition. While there were more people at the bar than I expected to see, the restaurant overall was only about half full, and the staff easily kept up with everyone, providing attentive and friendly service from start to finish. As others have stated in detail, CV has been here for a long time, and entering is like going back in time. Even at lunch it's dark and mysterious, with muted lighting and the feel of bygone days. It's quite easy to forget the Summer sun and the bustle of the Valley while you're in here, making it also easy to get lost in conversation, and a pretty perfect place to have that lunchtime catch-up with friends. One thing I really like about Casa Vegas is that they have 2 kinds of tortilla chips: the ubiquitous corn chips and the far-less-common chips made from flour tortillas. These flour chips were a big thing in the late 1980's or early 90's, and a lot of restaurants had them -- but they disappeared for whatever reason, and CV is the only place I know that still has them. And they're great; crispy and more indulgent than traditional corn chips, and I find they have more flavor. They're automatically served with the table-side guacamole, but the waiter will bring them to you if you ask. And you should ask. As to the rest of the food, it's standard "American Mexican" food: tacos and burritos and enchiladas, tostadas and flautas and taquitos, along with plates of the usual things like steak or fajitas, ropa vieja and some seafood. They do have a few top shelf fillings available (shrimp and lobster, and a few higher cuts of steak), but for the most part you're getting the same kind of safe and unchallenging cuisine that convinced mid-century gringos that Mexican food was "okay." My buddy ordered 2 shredded beef tacos, which were nicely plated and generously portioned. I didn't taste them, but they looked very good and he enjoyed them quite a bit. I opted for the Mexican Caesar Salad with Sliced Steak. The lettuces were fresh, cool and crisp, and were nicely coated in a dressing that had a layered, homemade flavor. There were crushed tortilla chips instead of croutons for added crunch, and the steak was a lovely cut, served medium rare (as requested) and well-seasoned. In fact, the seasoning on the meat paired very well with the dressing, so the meat felt like a planned component rather than an extra item added to the side. It was a good salad, and just the right portion for lunch. So, while you won't be finding anything revelatory on the menu, you will be eating well-prepared, tasty food that delivers on a promise made long ago and kept all these years later by people proudly doing what they do as well as it can be done.

The interior is packed with old school charm: dim lighting, warm red and yellow accents, cozy booths, and a dining room that's instantly recognizable. But don't sleep on the outdoor patio either. It's absolutely beautiful, complete with its own bar and plenty of seating for those perfect evenings out. Casa Vega is famous for its margaritas and classic Mexican American comfort food. It's not outright authentic, but it's nostalgic and hasn't changed for decades. During my last visit, I kept it simple with a cheese enchilada, a perfectly medium rare cooked steak taco, and spicy beans and rice. While each item was simple, it was done perfectly. Definitely get the combination so you can try a little bit of everything. Like I said earlier, For me Casa Vega is all about nostalgia. The familiar flavors, the atmosphere, and those feel good vibes that keep people coming back year after year. It's a staple because we all grew up with it so if you're someone here dining for the first time, keep that in mind. Last pro tip: there is $10 valet parking which honestly saves you from trying to find parking on the main boulevard so I would say just go with it.

Their kindness, hospitality, and excellent service made this day so unforgettable. We ordered our favorites, which had to include the fresh guacamole made by your tableside. The very special Molcajette that comes in a boiling blackstone presentation. Then I got my guilty pleasures of hte combo plate with chicken enchiladas and the sweet tamale. It was such a great memorable experience coming back to our favorite spot for our favorite celebrations.

Let's start with logistics: parking is valet only unless you manage to find street parking on very busy Ventura Blvd. When we arrived, we stood waiting for a bit without being acknowledged. When the hostess came over, there wasn't even a simple "hello," just "How many?" and "Do you have a reservation?" It's a small detail, but hospitality starts with a greeting. The ambience is undeniably cool -- dark, classic, very old-school LA. It has character. Food-wise, it was inconsistent. The albondigas soup leaned salty -- maybe it had reduced over time, maybe just my taste preference. The fajitas were actually the opposite: pretty bland. On the plus side, they weren't overcooked, which is common at many places. The cuts were large, not overloaded with onions (which I appreciated), but also not much chicken. The guacamole had a slight sour note. Not terrible, but enough to question how fresh it was. Our server, however, was great. Attentive, professional, and the highlight of the experience. The menu font is quite small, which makes it difficult to read in the dim lighting. And the payment terminal comes with a tip percentage already selected -- that always feels a bit uncomfortable. I'm glad I checked it off my list, but I wouldn't go out of my way to return or recommend it strongly. It feels like Casa Vega survives mostly on nostalgia and reputation rather than today's execution.
Classic 70+ year old Mexican restaurant with long history in TV and movies including Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood where Brad Pitt and Leo D Cap enjoyed a meal. Shrimp tacos, margaritas and cerveza all hit good. Booths are comfortable old school with red cushions. Service is relaxed so not in big hurry. If I lived or visited Sherman Oaks, I would probably be a regular.
Honestly, what is all the fuss about? Why so many negative reviews about this place? I have been here twice before, many years ago. Tonight was my third time dining here since my son and I decided to go out for dinner. It really hit the spot after not having Mexican food for a very long time. We walked in on a Friday night with no reservations and were seated immediately, even though the restaurant was already busy and they still had many reservations coming in. I was very uncomfortable and didn't like the corner table we were given at first, but Patrick was able to accommodate us right away and gave us a new table that was much better. Jorge was our server and he was cordial and professional. You can tell he knows his job and the menu well. Johnathan brought our food and kindly took our pictures for us. The complimentary chips and salsa came out first and I will agree with other reviews that the chips were kind of stale. The salsa was delicious. I ordered the Lobster Enchiladas that came with a Tomatillo Sauce, rice/refried beans and a side of sour cream & guacamole ($32). It was absolutely delicious and a very filling portion. I asked for light sauce and got exactly that. They also didn't skimp on the amount of lobster. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and barely have any leftovers for tomorrow. My son ordered the Pollo Asado plate and although he liked it, he said he wouldn't have ordered it if he knew it was going to be a bone-in half chicken plate. It doesn't say that on the menu. His also came with a tomatillo sauce, rice/beans and a side of sour cream/guacamole, with 3 corn tortillas. ($30) You can always ask for flour as well. They have a full bar here and the drinks are EXCELLENT! I had a Frozen Coconut Margarita ($18) which was PERFECTION!!! So silky, smooth, DELICIOUS! I was about to lick the glass clean. My son had the Guava Margarita ($18) and loved it as well. Very well balanced and I also thought it was great and I don't even like Guava. Again, I don't know why there are so many bad reviews! We had a very nice experience and would come back in the future. It's a very clean, charming, pretty, and fun place with good energy, good food, and good drinks. What's not to like? Valet parking/street parking. Bathrooms were also very clean!!
We sat outside in the beautiful new patio area, which features a lovely water fountain, gorgeous Mexican tile, & stunning furniture. We started with a complementary basket of warm, fresh chips and a very spicy salsa, along with a side of freshly made guacamole that was incredibly creamy and flavorful. Unfortunately, the meal went downhill from there. This famous restaurant has a rich history--helped made famous by actor Marlon Brando and even featured in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood--so my expectations were high. We ordered a Carne Asada wet burrito with chicken added. When it arrived, it was incredibly soggy, and the chicken inside had a watery texture & the steak was extremely overcooked. We flagged down our waiter, who was very polite and understanding, and asked to exchange it for a burrito with grilled chicken breast instead of the wet chicken. While the second burrito was an improvement, the beef was still very overcooked and underseasoned, and the chicken completely lacked flavor. The drinks were also a letdown. We started with a guava drink that had literally no alcohol in it and tasted like watered-down lemonade with no guava flavor at all. We had to order a second drink and a beer just to get something decent. Our bill came out to a whopping $98. For that price, the portions were painfully small, and you can definitely find better quality elsewhere. Also service was painfully slow...While I appreciate how clean the restaurant was and how sweet our waiter was, the only thing that truly stood out was the fresh guacamole. It was a pretty disappointing and underwhelming experience, and I'm honestly questioning if I'll ever go back.

Well, I was very lucky. The service is always incredible here and Xavier is an amazing server. I've been a server for a long time, but I gotta tell you that server is one of the best the steak burrito was beyond delicious I can't believe I ate the whole thing. I won't be eating any more meals for another 12 hours, but it was so delicious the melted cheese, the sauce, and of course, the sour cream and guacamole. All fresh each bite going down even faster before I realized... I was ready for more lol I'll be back.!
First of all - Gorgeous restaurant! Classic LA vibes with moody lighting and red booths inside and a huge patio that almost makes you forget you're in LA. Also love that they bring complimentary chips and salsa. While the vibes and staff are both lovely, the food is just okay. A bit overpriced and mediocre in flavor, quality and freshness. We got a burrito for $29 that didn't come with any sides and was bland and there was no texture throughout. Ceviche was also a bit on the bland side, very small portion, and avocado had some pretty large brown spots. Overall it's a classic LA spot and worth a try. read more

I've been coming here for almost 30 years. My friends all wanted to try the new patio so we came here for a friend's birthday. We had tableside guacamole and it was great!! Juan Carlos was our server and was very attentive and nice! I did have an issue with one of my dishes but Thomas took care of it right away as did JC. They brought the birthday girl a flan for dessert! Weather was perfect. Highly recommend it! read more
This was my first time here in almost 25 years and I'll def be back. The tableside guacamole is a must, and the spinach enchiladas were delish. I'm normally more of a carnivore, but the veg was calling to me that day and did not disappoint, haha. The spicy marg was too sweet and not all that spicy, IMO. I wouldn't get that again. Service was ok, but it was surprisingly crowded for 4pm on a Sun. I think they're just always busy. Love the dim lighting, and they had festive holiday decorations up. Valet was very reasonable, I think $10. I bought a hoodie and wear it almost daily! read more

Casa Vega holds a special place in my heart, having been a loyal patron for 30 years. I have countless wonderful memories here, including moments when Ray Vega himself would stop by our table for a friendly chat. However, after a two-year absence, my recent visit to celebrate Mother's Day with my mom was disappointing. We arrived in the late afternoon, hoping to avoid the crowds, and put our name down. Unfortunately, after waiting 30 minutes for an update, we discovered that our name hadn't even been recorded. Once we were finally seated, there was a significant delay in receiving our drinks and chips. I noticed one server struggling, dropping food for different tables, which was unfortunate. To add to our frustrations, they forgot our tostada Chiquita, which was later brought out with our main dishes. I ordered carne asada with cheese enchiladas and chile relleno, but the meal lacked the flavor I remembered. The service was inconsistent; they continually forgot our drinks and chips. On a positive note, the ambience was lovely, and I still adore the classic LA decor. Despite the nostalgic charm of Casa Vega, this experience left me hoping for improvements in both service and food quality for future visits. read more

We've been going to Casa Vega for 10 years but tonight it was actually offensive how small the water glasses were & the server refused to bring a refill carafe. It's like they are trying to punish anyone that only wants water. My opinion of Casa Vega has never been so low bc it was clearly intentional. The Chips are very salty & after asking 3 times to refill their small carafe (for table of 5) the server reluctantly gave us more water. read more
I have been to Casa Vega, many years before it was featured in Tarantino's "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood". But I had a bad experience (it was the company, not the actual restaurant), so I didn't feel like reviewing it, it wasn't fair. We went there last week for dinner since we had a friend visiting from East Coast and he's a fan of the movie. He had to eat here! I am glad we did. We enjoyed the night out way more! Nice, dark lit restaurant, old school booths and charming cool paintings on the wall. It does have atmosphere, no TV (Yeyyy). Valet parking or street parking if you're lucky! It is small (restrooms included), but it has a nice vibe, you feel immersed in the past. We had a nice waiter, kind, attentive, super sweet and helpful! Great service and wonderful chips and salsa from the house and a water carafe. We tried their house margarita on the rocks and boy it's great! Amazing and you get a small silver container for a refill! The folks from the bar were loud, otherwise it's fun to hang out here and chat with friends over old school Mexican fare. Taco-s are decent, so were the rancheras enchiladas, nothing exceptional and prices are high. But it's worth checking it out and coming here once in a while. My first visit to Casa Vega was faaaannntastic! What an epic and iconic Los Angeles institution. We sat in the Cliff & Rick booth from the Tarantino film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Drinks were delicious and perfectly balanced. I couldn't resist a happy hour Mexican pizza! We also ordered the Molcajete (not pictured) which was phenomenal as well. Casa Vega absolutely blew us away. This place is a true LA classic, and now with their newly opened patio, the experience is even better. The vibe is vibrant, lively, and perfect for enjoying a great meal in that beautiful LA weather. We ordered the molcajete and WOW... easily one of the best we've had. I'd heard about Casa Vega, and even as a city local, passed it a few times knowing I'd eventually attend and it did not disappoint. I met a few colleagues here for a Friday work lunch, and we enjoyed ourselves. It has a dimly lit ambiance to the spot so I venture to guess it's great for intimate conversations when dining. There was some nice musical tunes in the background not too loud so you could hear it but also carry on conversation too. From a culinary standpoint we started with the table side guacamole and margaritas, how can you go wrong there? I went with the CV Spicy Margarita. For lunch I was set on getting an enchilada but the debate was between Crab & Shrimp or the Lobster....and I went with the Lobster enchilada. It was fresh and the rice and beans were an ideal complement too. Definitely plan to go back as the servers were super helpful and the experience as a whole was quick, tasteful, and easy. read more

Came here to have dinner. They were doing a soft open for the patio area. I will say this patio area is very nice. It has a great vibe. That is the only thing nice I have to say about this place. The service really sucks. The waiter never really checked on us and if we asked for water or something. Got a crappy face look from the staff. They look so miserable. I witnessed a lovely older couple who the lady ordered a taco. There was a bug in her food and when they brought a new one out, it was completely wrong. They brought her beef when she originally had chicken. I felt bad because she did not even eat, and they still didn't even offered to pay for the husband's dish or take care of the food. Then another table next to me, they brought the burrito and the other lady ordered a salad and never brought the other ladies dish. I would never come back. What a shame, such great atmosphere to just be followed with a terrible service. I ordered a Molcajete, which was good, but not for the crappy service. read more
Casa Vega. It's a must try place if you're new to LA or it's a must take your out of town friends/family if time permits! I used to roll by this place often when I worked in the valley and I had no idea it had such a rich history of Hollywood's who's-who that would pop in here. All kinds of chisme! Read up on it when you get a chance. On to the review... Valet is efficient and reasonable in price. Reservations are recommended as even at 5 o'clock it was pretty busy on a Saturday. The menu is huge! Lots to choose from including vegetarian options. I chose the carne asada with enchilada combo. Steak is cooked to your liking and it's a great cut of meat! They also have a huge drink selection...if you can't decide, the classic margarita will not disappoint. The first sip might have saying "meh"...but when you finish it, you'll be smiling from the buzz you wanted. Compliments to the bartender. No time for dessert so I'll skip that. My only critique...is that the food could have a bit more spice. I probably could have requested some extra hot salsa but no biggie. That's just me. Other than that I love the decore of the place and energy of the staff! I would definitely come back a few more times to get at some other dishes on the menu. No, they don't have any fans, that I noticed.

Yes!! But no need for outside seating.
Does this restaurant require reservations for 2?
Require? No. (I've been seated right away without a reservation). Recommended? Yes. Always a good idea.

Nope! No restaurants in LA are open for patio dining yet
Why doesnt anyone answer the phone so i can cancel my order?
With Covid they are down on staffing so more busy than before, trust me Rick Dalton and I went there before the shutdown.
