Came here on a Friday night, for date night. We enjoyed an array of food, with recommendations from our attentive server, Michaela. Not pictured, the divine cocktails. I had one with fig infused tequila and I'll dream of it for the rest of my days. As for the food, the concept that everything touches the flame added a lot of dimension to the flavor. Shout out to the leeks, prawns and lamb. All memorable dishes. The empanada was good, but as a Venezuelan, I'm always partial to less dough! Decor is elevated and nice, but my husband complained about his seat. The angle was not comfortable, which distracted him from fully being present at the meal. Don't snooze on the Uruguayan port!

Had a reservation at ALTO for 6:30 for 2 Arrived right on time, got seated at the bar for 15 minutes. Got a broth , it was mushroom and delicious actually while we waited on the cocktails we ordered. Once seated we waited another 15 minutes for the cocktails we ordered at the bar to arrive. We finished our cocktails in about 20 minutes so we ordered another . We received our food 1 hour into our reservation, it was very good, but I had no drink the entire meal which was a bummer , it was ordered just took forever.. The food was interesting , but really great. Consistency was spot on. The chefs did an incredible job. Once ordered, food came out timely and we had all courses before my drink came. We skipped dessert as we were getting tired and full. The check came to 300$ for 2 people with 2 rounds of drinks. Our server disappeared at some point and someone else asked us for dessert order and checked us out ? Decent time. Cocktails were well made, just took forever . The ambiance was nice, the seating was a tad close together , not much privacy for a conversation.. but it was fine. It's very beautiful inside . It's a nice place to bring have an upscale date.

Cocktails...pricey but delicious

We were transported to Uruguay and Argentina last week by way of ALTO Fire to Table and it was incredible. I had a client in town for the holidays and I took him, his girlfriend, my wife and myself there last Saturday after seeing the positive reviews and that they made it on the L.A. Times Top 101 restaurants of the year. From the moment we walked in, we knew we were in store for an otherworldly experience. The place itself is absolutely gorgeous starting with a super cozy sitting area next to a nice big fireplace and the bar. There are 2 other sets of yummy leather and wood chairs that help with the feeling of being transported to Argentina and Uruguay. I mean, I've never been to either of those two countries but I imagine them having similar fine dining spots. The very friendly and helpful hostess took our drink order and my wife and I enjoyed the fire for a few moments until my guests arrived. While we were seated, a server brought over a warm bowl of about the tastiest broth I've ever had. It was simple, light but full of flavor. When my client and his girlfriend arrived, we were promptly seated in the equally beautiful dining room and the drinks started flowing. The cocktail hit of the night was the JARDIN de ALTURA ($23) made with tequila infused with fig leaves, orange liqeur, magnolia flower nectar (!!), herb oil and corn salt. This drink was absolutely wonderful if very pricey. Preferring a more traditional drink first, my first cocktail of the night was the GARRA CHARRUA ($20) or traditional Uruguayan Highball made with Rosa Negra Grappa Miel (honey), lemon juice, perrier and lemon peel. It was very good and came with a square column of clear ice but the Jardin was definitely better. Our friendly server helped guide us with our order and suggested we try at least one or two of the bread appetizers....so we ordered all FOUR and they were insane. They were small but perfect for sharing for the four of us and we demolished them. We ordered the Torta Frita ($12) with the perfect sphere of cashew butter and rosemary honey, the Criollo ($17) with herb butter, the Chipa ($15) with tomato butter and the many layered Marseilles ($11) with Chimichurri butter. I usually don't order (and pay for) a bread course but these little delights were incredible. Truly life changing they were so freakin' good. I don't honestly know if I could pick a favorite and well, like I said, the drinks had already started to flow...but that Marseilles was pretty amazing. If you can, order them all. We then shared the Burnt Avocado Salad ($25) and my friend/client and I couldn't resist the lovely oysters (the women folk don't care for oysters much to our benefit). The salad was interesting, nice and light and while the avocado sure looked "burnt", it wasn't. Perhaps this wasn't a standout but it was a nice salad. The oysters were fantastic and beautifully presented. Oh! And how could I forget, each couple shared one of the highly recommended "OG" Empanadas ($12) made with housemade dough and filled with braised beef, served with Llajua sauce. These little suckers were awesome. The waitress mentioned that people have a hard time sharing these but considering all that we ordered...we were totally fine. For our mains, we ordered the Pork "Txuleta" ($62) - A 12oz. house dry aged Ped & Barnets Pork chop applewood smoked and roasted in Kombu seaweed. This was absolutely delicious as was the Ribeye special ($93) - slowly roasted 12 oz. dry aged ribeye with hollandaise on the side and served with wild mushrooms. They recommend this cooked medium rare which is usually too cooked for me but it was fantastic. Because we were still hungry....KIDDING...but we did actually order the recommended Peppers ($22) - Piquillo Peppers slowly confited for 5 hours in the charcoal oven. This actually was one of my favorite dishes...so much flavor...just wow. Make sure you eat them when they're hot as the fat of the dish did congeal as the evening went on. We also ordered the Eggplant ($20) - Japanese eggplant braised in honey and bay leaf broth, slowly roasted on the grill, served with eggplant smoky sauce. This was a nice dish but not exactly how I expected it to be. The peppers were definitely the highlight of the sides and I couldn't stop eating them. And for dessert...HOW IS IT POSSIBLE?? We couldn't resist the Chocolate & Sambayon ($25) and the Ode to DDL (We were charged $28 but the menu read $27). These dishes were remarkably yummy. Ode to DDL is an "A la minute" Dulce de Leche Souffle with housemade Dulce de Leche ice cream...truly the bomb as was the Chiffon Cacao Cake with 70% chocolate mousse and Oporto Zabaglione foam and topped with carob brittle. I loved every aspect of our experience at Alto....BUT...if I hadn't been using my expense account, I probably would have never visited. The prices are C-R-A-Z-Y. $25-$27 (or in our case $28) for a dessert, $20-$25 for cocktails and even $93 for the ribeye....in Studio City.....

We had a wonderful birthday dinner with friends at Alto, filled with perfectly grilled meats, savory sides, and beautiful desserts. I think one needs to have a bit of patience when dining here. They grill large cuts of meat that naturally take time to reach perfection. We were seated out on the patio. I was hesitant about the weather, but they had plenty of heaters to keep us and our plates warm. Our server explained that we should consider ordering a variety of dishes to share. We took that advice and chose the Provoleta as an appetizer, followed by the Asado Banderita, Pork Txuleta, and Monkfish. For sides, we ordered the eggplant and peppers. Let's start with that Provoleta. That round, crispy cheese was unbelievably delicious. Who doesn't like fried cheese? The fennel pesto softened the tangy provolone beautifully. When our entrées and sides arrived, we had a hard time deciding which dish was the best. While we enjoyed the eggplant and its pleasant, smoky char, those peppers were absolutely heavenly. Any description won't truly do them justice. You need to order them to experience how wonderful they are. The monkfish was sweet and firm, reminiscent of lobster. The Asado Banderita was savory, with the perfect chew that tells you you're eating a perfectly grilled short rib. The Pork Txuleta was equally outstanding. The chop had crisp edges and fat that simply melted away. Every one of these dishes stood out in its own way. You could tell the chef was telling a story through the technique behind each one. We moved inside for dessert and cocktails at the end of the meal, with a perfect view of the open-fire grill. For dessert, we chose a lemon creme brulee and a magical pear with pistachio. Both were excellent and ended the evening with just the right amount of sweetness. In case you couldn't tell, Alto is very good.

South American cuisine prepared over an open fire. Beautiful open kitchen in the back where you can watch your meals being prepared. Love the rustic vibe. Very romantic. Perfect date location. Also has a separate bar/lounge area that's open before the restaurant for you to enjoy a cocktail while waiting for the rest of your party. Food was also good. Would love to come back o try a few other dishes. Here's some tastings 1. Criollo: thinly sliced bread stacked together. Can either separate them and enjoy individually or as a whole. Pairs beautifully with herb butter. Really liked this choice for starter. Sorry not great with the explanation but posting a pic for you to see for yourself. 2. Asado Banderita: dry aged short rib steak. Felt it was overcooked and dry. Very difficult to cut with the steak knife. Should have asked for medium to medium rare. Not bad flavor but just cooked a little more than what I would have liked. 3. Japanese eggplant: this is a side dish ordered separately. Japanese eggplant braised in honey and bay leaf broth served on top of eggplant puree. By far my favorite. Fantastic. Must order 4. Ode to DDL "A La Minute": dolce de Leche soufflé with house made dolce de Leche ice cream. Takes time to make so should order early. Very good. Overall very romantic and beautiful venue. Wouldn't mind going back to try a few other dishes.

Excellent dinner experience! While the inside was packed, we had a more quiet, intimate dinner on the patio. The weather was perfect! For food we kicked off with Criollo and Chipa- both were smaller dishes and excellent! I loved the Criollo! From the starters we got the OG Empanada and Chimichurri Prawns. Both tasty, but the heirloom & peaches were our favorite. We finished with the Potato and Surf and Turf. The restaurant is great for date night but we saw a few family groups. Service was excellent as well. We are defined coming back. Also while there is street parking, they also have valet ($10).

The vibes, service and food were lovely. We went on a weeknight at 6pm so we did not experience any wait issues as noted by prior guests. The open concept kitchen, aesthetics and flavors were all wonderful. The staff was gracious and welcoming. I want it to do well. Cocktails were creative and fantastic. Well curated wine list. Highlights were the avocado salad, peppers, lamb and squid. The breads are unique but a bit too well done and portion is small for the price. The prawns, were good and our least favorite was the Gnocchi. Lukewarm, needed more flavor and its breaded but sitting in a broth. Our soufflé. Ice cream served on top. It really tainted the soufflé experience a bit as it was cold and ate like a milkshake almost. We are going to come back and try more items. Very creative chef, lovely concept and you can feel their love for the restaurant in the space.

Absolutely obsessed with ALTO. The concept, the style, the service, and even the owners have been so amazing. I've been here 3 times already, and I'm writing this as I'm arriving for my 4th because I couldn't believe I haven't written a review yet! Everytime I've been in, they've given welcome drinks of some sort. Such a nice touch! I've tried majority of the menu, & all have been executed perfectly. The cheesy bread- mind blowing! Pork- juicy! & SO ON!!!! What a cool addition to the LA food scene. I hope everyone gets to experience ALTO. I know I'll be a regular here forever!

Alto is a special restaurant with food that will transport you to two countries. Uruguay and Argentina... bringing true authentic flavors cooked on an open fire. The moment you walk in you are greeted by the staff that is so welcoming and friendly. They bring you a special drink or soup as a welcome offer. This right away sets the mood for the whole dining experience. The restaurant itself is stunning. You feel like you are on vacation. The smell of the fire is perfect. You can appreciate the wood. The food being cooked over the fire it's so special. I can't truly explain this you just have to experience it yourself. This is my four time dining here and it's always special. Our server Jay was able to suggest the perfect amount of food for our table! He was very honest about everything and I truly appreciated this. The chefs Juana and Esteban are talented individuals bringing a new dining experience to LA. I follow them on Instagram and know that what I'm eating was fresh from the farmers market. This you can taste through the food. So fresh. Their details to the plates, cutlery being custom made by a knife maker in Mexico is beautiful. You are literally eating with art. Come to Alto if you want an incredible and unforgettable dining experience. Thank you for making my mom's 60th birthday and last day in LA truly special. Grateful to have a culinary dining experience like Alto.

Great experience all around! The most amazing decor I've ever seen in a restaurant in LA!! The staff was very friendly including the owners who personally escorted me to the open kitchen to watch them prepare dishes. Food was very creative and I'm excited to go back and try other items!

Alto Fire to Table (South American cuisine inspired by Argentina & Uruguay) definitely deserves 5 stars from all six of us! Our good friend, a local chef, and his wife treated us to this incredible restaurant -- and from the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed and offered a glass of vermouth, which happens to be one of my favorite aperitifs. That thoughtful touch set the tone for the entire evening. We enjoyed a variety of appetizers, and every single one was fantastic. For our main dishes, we had the pork chuleta, eggplant, asado banderita, cordero patagónico, and rib eye -- everything was cooked perfectly and absolutely delightful. The only dish that missed the mark was the T-bone halibut, which was quite bony and had a very strong fishy taste -- definitely not my favorite. The open kitchen with its live fire makes the whole experience special. You can smell the food grilling, hear the crackling of the coals or wood (whatever they're using), and it all adds a bit of theater to the evening. The aroma, the flavors, and the presentation come together beautifully with deep, smoky notes in every bite. From the food to the ambiance and service, everything was top-notch. Alto Fire to Table offers a truly memorable dining experience -- one that celebrates South American flavors with passion and flair. Highly recommended! FOOD: Really Good! SERVICE: On Point AMBIANCE: Perfect

Food is fine and extremely over priced. The waiters uniform a little ridiculous although sweet and friendly i am second hand embarrassed for them. The vibe is chill i guess but to be honest I feel like everything had to be a performance like i was a part of a circus i feel like this might be the reason everything is priced so high? Idk

We were a group of six, three of us serious food lovers (including a chef and a restaurant owner), so we came in with high expectations. I mentioned to the manager on arrival that I was excited because I've been to Argentina and love Argentinian BBQ and empanadas. The service throughout was excellent and that's the only reason I'm leaving two stars instead of one. The space is beautiful, clearly the product of a major renovation, but the food fell far short of the level and price point. Here's a breakdown of what we ordered and explanation of how it was: * Mushroom dish - Small golden mushrooms with a foul taste; our server ended up taking most of it back. * 3 Chipa ($51) - Cheese bread, but at $17 each it was completely overpriced for what we received. * 2 Burnt Avocado Salad ($54) - Lacked seasoning, acidity, and any real char flavor. A very basic dish for $27 each. * 2 Oysters - Ichiban ($36) - Arrived plain with almost no topping; we had to ask for salt and lemon. Tasted way better after the lemon and salt but it was too late since we had all ate 6 of the 8 oysters as they were. * 3 Chimichurri Prawns ($45) - You could barely taste the chimichurri, and prawns not cooked properly, making the skin not come off the prawns. At $18 per prawn, this was the most disappointing dish of the night. * Asado Bandeirita ($48) - Short rib, decent but not special. * Cordero Patagónico ($62) - Arrived severely undercooked. When sent back to be cooked more, it returned overcooked and dry. A lose-lose situation. * Ribeye ($135) - Just okay. I've had better results at home with a smoker and cast iron skillet. * Eggplant ($28) - One of the better dishes of the night. * Lion's Mane ($33) - Bland, even with brown sauce there was no taste. * Chocolate & Sambayón ($25) - This was okay * Ode to DDL ($28) - The highlight dessert, it was really good. Overall, the food lacked the flavor, seasoning, and execution to justify the prices but presentation was absolutely on point. Presentation and ambience were clearly the focus of the investment, but without improving the menu, consistency, and taste, this restaurant will struggle to live up to its potential. To the owner: I mentioned some of this to our server Olivia during the meal, but it didn't seem to reach management. I'm writing this because the space is beautiful and the service team is wonderful, it would be a shame to see all that effort wasted if the food doesn't improve. I genuinely hope you can make changes, because this could be a fantastic restaurant if the kitchen catches up to the design and service.

It's absolutely beautiful, complete with its own bar and plenty of seating for those perfect evenings out. Casa Vega is famous for its margaritas and classic Mexican American comfort food. It's not outright authentic, but it's nostalgic and hasn't changed for decades. During my last visit, I kept it simple with a cheese enchilada, a perfectly medium rare cooked steak taco, and spicy beans and rice. While each item was simple, it was done perfectly. Definitely get the combination so you can try a little bit of everything. Like I said earlier, For me Casa Vega is all about nostalgia. It had a trio of salsas on top. And the chips are excellent. They brought us plenty of refills on chips. We ordered the salsa sampler. Three different salsas in tiny ramekins. All tasty, but usually Mexican restaurants give you salsa and chips for free. We had to spend $18. I had a chile rellano unlike any I have had before. A lot of black beans, a blistered chile and some cojita cheese sprinkled on top. I am used to a chile rellano filled with cheese. It was just okay. My husband had the carne aside. Basically a steak and roasted potatoes. Nice steak, but nothing Mexican about it. The potatoes were ordinary. Our guest ordered AGUACHILE DE CHAYOTE squash, pineapple aguachile, cilantro macho. She wanted a vegetarian option. This was a cold soup. She had no idea what she was getting. I guess we should have asked. All in all the menu is confusing. I have eaten Mexican food throughout LA and travelled extensively in Mexico, and this was all very new to me. They did tell us at the beginning that things were good to share. This would have been a good sharing dish with the chips. It was very unusual. The dessert flan was very tasty with pecans and a crispy churro like garish. We would have like a little more explanation on the menu of what we were ordering. Every item is unexpected and out of the ordinary. Daisy is a good place to go for a taste adventure, good margaritas and a hefty bill.

My husband and I stopped in on a Sunday for a quick drink before a movie, and the "vibe" was non-existent. They have four TVs at the bar, but the setup was bizarre, two were completely off and another was just frozen on a directory logo. The biggest issue, however, is the cleanliness--or lack thereof. The place is incredibly dirty. It feels like it hasn't had a deep clean in weeks, maybe longer. The bar top was disgusting, the floors were grimy, and even the woodwork looked like it hadn't seen a rag since opening day. They are charging $17 for "signature cocktails," which is bold for a spot that feels like a neglected dive bar. If you're going to charge premium prices, you have to at least wipe down the countertops. Service-wise, the bartender was friendly enough but low energy and minimal level of service. To make matters worse, a shift change happened while we were there, and the departing bartender made us close out our check and start a brand-new one with the next person. Why should the staff's administrative hand-off be the customer's issue? It's just unprofessional. The Valley has so many actual dive bars with character and plenty of high-end spots for a great cocktail; I'm not sure where this place is trying to fit in. It feels like someone bought it and just stopped caring. We won't be back.

Of course, Studio City has a village full of good restaurant choices, but since I was already a fan of their other location on the Westside, The Six on Pico Blvd., I decided to give this one a try. So Saturday brunch it was! We arrived earlier to avoid crowds at 10:45, and we had the place all to ourselves until 11:15. Reservations were made via Yelp, but we obviously didn't need them. I was a bit surprised, but small groups eventually trickled in slowly. ** THE CHOW ** My brunch date ordered a California omelet, made with brie, red bell, caramelized onions, and topped with half an avocado. The breakfast potatoes on the side were very yummy and the omelet was tasty too. Did I mention I'm a glutton for brunch? Well, I decided to eat one like one. And the Knife & Fork Chicken + Waffles was just right for my appetite. It satisfied the fried chicken cravings I had racked up over an entire week. I liked that the chicken was boneless, skinless, buttermilk-battered, and crispy. The fancy "red devil gravy" is basically a watery Tapatio for dunking or (if you're like me) for drowning your chicken in heat. Don't worry, they've got Cholula as well. Also, I love the effort in naming this menu item. However, I was a bit disappointed to find out that the jalapeño rosemary syrup on the online menu was only regular maple syrup IRL. Overall, the waffles are quite dense so it adds a good balance of hot 'n' sweet. ** THE SERVICE ** Servers at The Six were attentive. Food was delivered quickly. There were frequent check-ins with various staff members at each of the tables. The wait staff worked well together, covering each other's duties -- that was nice to see. ** THE VIBE ** There are lots of Instagram-worthy backdrops and charming little signs strewn around the restaurant. The decor and vibe give a nod to the "Society of Six" artists from the 1920s Prohibition era, who lived together in a cabin in Northern California that they dubbed the "Chow House", where they inspired each other in creating art. The reclaimed wood planks and cast iron skillets are used as plates on several menu items as a subtle accent and cozy, cabin vibe. I imagine twinkle lights add to the effect during the evening time. Next time I want to shovel brunch into my pie hole like a bottomless mimosa glass, I'll come back for the Apple Pie French Toast. That's with a side of bacon (not the bacon inside the French toast as the menu writeup may suggest). I hear that the cinnamon apple pie filling is amazing. I guess I'll have to come back for seconds and pair it with a bottomless Mimosa for $25 (avail Saturdays & Sundays, 10am - 3pm).

While we probably won't rush back, it's a super cute place with a 'garden' or 'backyard' feel above…read morea funky furniture place. Food was a bit of a mixed bag. We tried a yellowfin tartare which was great. I got the pasta which was very good, and my wife got the salmon. Salmon was fresh and great, but the broccolini side was ridiculously salty. Service was very good, but my wife wanted the tartare as an entrée and our server, who was honestly lovely, suggested it wasn't large enough for an entrée. Problem was, it was a pretty substantial portion and my wife would have appreciated it as a main. I loved getting to share the tuna, but if she'd have just ordered that, and not added the salmon, I think we both would've appreciated the experience more. A very good wine list, with some really nice wines by the glass - You don't see that often enough - and limited, but interesting beer. Ample parking, 90 minutes free.

First time at Cosette and it was very nice. Very inconspicuous but nice!! It's located right next…read moreto Madewell and it's upstairs on second floor of the plant store. It's easy to get lost but it's easy to find after you read the sign and pass Madewell. It was a girls night out experience and we had fun on a Saturday evening. For food I ordered the bread and butter that was Shareable and the tuna ahi with chips that was 3/5. It could have been more flavorful. The bread and butter was 5/5 though. Very hot and soft. For the wine I had the Grenache and sparkling rose that was very good!!! My fav two selections. I highly suggest !! The service was really good and pretty fast! We had Yesi as our server and she was very attentive and good personality!! I would like to have her again!! The ambiance is cute and nice surrounded by beautiful plants you can purchase. I will try Cosette again! The parking was expensive in the lot! They only give 90 min free parking after it's a few every hour or min. I had to pay $20, so just FYI.
