I'm still at the table, trying to pace myself. Not only are they incredibly welcoming Agua Frescas y Jamaica Chilaquiles con asada y juevos Delicioso, Sabroso, Abudante My first time here, most certainly not my last!!!

Best tacos in Los Angeles

If I could give this place 10 stars, I would!Zarape Mexican Food is next level. Everything is homemade and full of authentic flavor -- it's like someone's abuela is back there cooking with love. The soup? Incredible. The shrimp cocktail? Packed with flavor and super fresh. And the handmade tortillas... unreal. You can taste the difference. Even the chips and salsa are freaking amazing -- I could eat just that and leave happy. This spot is a hidden gem and highly, highly recommended. If you're craving real Mexican food, this is the place. I'll definitely be coming back again and again! Don't leave without a aqua Fresca pina also the Tacos the carne asada is the absolute best

Broken Glass hosed into the gas station parking lot - Trash put in the street by Don Zarape employee
Carmen R.

I live across the street from Don Zarape and have eaten here probably a hundred times - but I started waking up earlier for a new job and while having my coffee in the morning I look out the window and I watch the workers opening the store. I was absolutely shocked to see their employees using a hose to spray the trash and debris from the sidewalk into the gutter. They don't even have the decency to get a broom and dust pan and put the trash in a trash can. They put it in the street and then spray it down the street so you'll notice two piles of filthy trash and debris on each side of their restaurant in the gutter. They do this all the time. I watch them take a bunch of broken glass and put it in the gas station parking lot. They didn't even sweep it up and put it in the trash. A week later I walked over there and the broken glass is still there in the gas station parking lot where Don Zarape employee put it so he wouldn't have to do the right thing and clean up the mess. I'm sorry, but I'll never eat here again AND I am telling everyone I see what horrible community members these people are. We all live here. This is our neighborhood and they are just putting trash in the street. Bad for the community, bad for the children, bad for the world. I will never eat here again. I will include photos of the trash from last week.

Mexican Enchiladas

The ambiance and service were excellent and the food was a bit above mid. I ordered the Mexican chicken enchiladas plate which came with beans and rice and a pepino agua Fresca. Total after tax and the $1 card charge fee was $31.37, not including tip. The pepino was refreshing and light. The Fresca came with 1 free refill, anything after would be an additional charge. The enchiladas had a delicious red pepper-y sauce to them. While some bites had tender soft chicken, other bites were dry and not as juicy. Definitely the star of the plate was the rice. It was fluffy and had great texture all while being the furthest from anything dry. The beans, although having great texture and firmness, weren't seasoned all that well. I found myself dousing it in Tapatio.

We love this place, it's close to home and is always delicious weather it's to dine and eat or even take away.

Shrimp taco, fresh house guacamole with rice and beans

The dinner they served me was full of tasty and fresh ingredients! The staff was very kind and were excited to come back and try their margaritas with friends. I'm very impressed with this space and the food.

I was looking for street tacos on my way to an appointment while I was in Valley Village area and I came across this place as they were on the way to the appointment. Now I have been to several taco places all over the valley, (please check my yelp for reference), the East Coast Mexico, etc. and hands-down LA has the best Mexican food I will start with that. I ordered two Asada tacos and one pastor taco -- I was not happy with the yellow corn tortillas as they tasted stale on one of my tacos, it was about 1030 when I went so this could be a true thing, but in my opinion, the Asada meat tasted like it was left over from yesterday and reheat it today, which I am not a person to eat leftovers that's just my personal preference I make food at home I eat what I cook -- I order food out I eat what I buy so it was quite disappointing and I get it everyone is going through hard times, foods expensive for the restaurant industry. I can see why they would not either discard of the meat or take it home with them what their dynamic would be but to reuse it and you think your food is going to be fresh was very disappointing. I'm not gonna say I spent a lot of money on my tacos because I didn't spend a lot of money I think the tacos were three dollars each but even still give quality food for people who are ordering from a restaurant. I will give it to them. The Pastor taco was amazing. I should've just got three of those but I don't really eat much pork and the salsa and chips were good. The restaurant was a cute restaurant although I don't understand why having a full grown pitbull dog I guess it is trained sitting in the restaurant with one of your family members or friends hanging out is appropriate, but hey, that's just me I could understand if they had a back patio but they don't. The staff was very kind and friendly. But I must agree with one of the other yelp reviews that was recent the tortillas were not good at all and if you're going to buy store-bought tortillas, there's some great places that you can get them from to make authentic street tacos because that was not an authentic street taco or good quality Asada.

Super authentic food, I got the carne asada plate and it was very delicious, atmosphere is welcoming and very clean, you must try this place, I would highly recommend it

Chicken Enchilada Rancheras

Not all Don Zarape locations are created alike. I was not too impressed with the #2 location on Vineland. However, this location #1, Don Zapata is one of the best of the chains yet. The storefront looks small and unassuming but inside is a nice size dining room which is clean and well adorned. Within mere seconds of sitting down, I was greeted with chips & salsa, and a drink request. Now that's good service! I'm happy to say that this quality of service and attention to my needs remained throughout my visit. With regard to the food, the Carne Asada soft tacos are some of the best I've had. The sirloin meat is nicely grilled and seasoned and there was no gristle. The corn tortilla is clearly homemade and had a very nice flavor. The Chicken Enchilada Rancheras consisted of three medium size enchiladas, rice, beans and a small salad garnish. The food here is very tasty and reasonably priced. From top to bottom, I had a great experience. The food, service and the comfort of the location we're all very good. There is parking in the back. I will definitely be visiting Don Zapata #1 again. I am a fan!

Friendly and pretty fast service. Everything was prepared fresh after we ordered, including the guacamole. The sizes were generous and the home made tortillas were amazing. No complaints would definitely go back.

It isnt necessarily the kind of place you would go out of your way for, but as a local gem when you're looking for mexican food. The menu is rather short, but pick randomly and you will be sure to be happy with what you selected. I opted for the duck tacos, and it was very satisfying considering you're served with just two tacos on a plate. Very simple but prepared to near perfection from the tortilla up to the sauce. The guac was freshly made and the salsa is with roasted tomatoes both seemingly made in house. Sometimes a 5 star review can reflect a place you go out of your way for, go back to multiple times. This 5 star review is simple as most of their offerings. Everything just done right. I was unable to provide pics because most of all the vibe and venue is for family or for dates and we all had a great time i didnt even remember to take pics and post my review until after dinner. The drinks were all so great it made it even better.

Also love that they bring complimentary chips and salsa. While the vibes and staff are both lovely, the food is just okay. A bit overpriced and mediocre in flavor, quality and freshness. We got a burrito for $29 that didn't come with any sides and was bland and there was no texture throughout. Ceviche was also a bit on the bland side, very small portion, and avocado had some pretty large brown spots. Overall it's a classic LA spot and worth a try.

That gets directed to a vm where i leave a message saying "hi I'm calling from the front of your restaurant trying to get someone to pickup the phone but I guess that won't work so I'll just hang up and see if someone comes over". A few seconds later the host walks over. I brush off the cobwebs that formed on me while I was waiting and go to the table. It took about 10 minutes to get our drink order- iced tea, peach margarita, coke. Margarita and coke came out 5 minutes after the tea. The margarita had ZERO taste of any alcohol so take out a loan if you wanna drink enough of these to get a buzz. I got the lobster enchilada for the first time. It was good, but not 33/35$ good, cmon. This place used to be so much better, but then again everything used to be so much better. SERVICE no Bueno. Place is so dark and loud now. Great if you like yelling to the people at your table. I'LL take 4 Taco Bell meals over 1 of these meals anytime.

5* Food 5* Service 5*…read moreAmbiance Easy, flavorful and casual, this is a great spot for tacos, bowls, and appetizers. You order at the counter, and everything is brought right to your table. The space is clean and rustically designed, with tasteful decor and food that's loaded with flavor. Best of all, they serve beer and margaritas! They make it easy to enjoy a quick, delicious meal with a fun drink to turn an ordinary day into something special. We tried both the watermelon and mint with cucumber margaritas, which were cold and refreshing. They weren't particularly strong on the alcohol, but had just enough of a kick to make it feel like a little party. We especially enjoyed the flour quesadillas. We added mushrooms for an extra $3, and they were absolutely worth it! The flour tortilla was perfectly flakey and crispy, while the creamy, nutty cheese, a touch of spice and earthy mushrooms came together to create the perfect bite. The birria beef tacos featured raw onions, which added a nice contrast to the rich, savory flavors. The beef and beans were wrapped in a roasted Anaheim chile and corn tortilla, creating a satisfying combination. Thankfullly, there was more beef than beans, making this a hearty, protein rich meal. We also tried the spicy garlic shrimp, served with beans, cabbage, cilantro, a special white sauce and salsa. Lighter than the beef tacos but equally flavorful, it was a delicous alternative with a nice balance of freshness and spice. This is an ideal spot for a quick, casual meal when you want something satisfying without a long wait. Fairly priced, full of flavor and made even better with a refreshing margarita or beer, it's a simple pleasure worth enjoying!
