The food was good but was hard to eat with the sun blasting in my eyes and the place was super dirty
Thomas N.

I really like the place but the dirt and the sun hitting me in my face the whole time I was eating didn't really help me at all and the tables were balanced with napkins they were rocking back-and-forth hopefully they try to clean up the place and put some sunshades in the window it's close to home but I like the one in San Fernando it's much cleaner

I stumbled upon Monarca on Yelp and we decided to try it out! We arrive and are nicely greeted by one of the employees at the counter. The inside was clean and well kept which we love. My wife and I ordered 2 breakfast burritos and the green chilaquiles. She got the Deluxe burrito and I got the chorizo. We bring them home and open up the bag and these things are MASSIVE! In the best way! We begin taking bites and are both amazed. Me a little bit more. I really really enjoyed this burrito. Maybe because it has rice instead of potatoes, I'm not sure, but it was delicious. My wife also really enjoyed hers; she gave it a 7.5 out of 10. I give my burrito a 9/10. Our chilaquiles were a whole other story and flavor profile. The carne asada that came with it was life changing. Whatever seasoning they used on tha carne asada is perfect. My wife was deeply impressed. The sauce, the chips, the eggs, beans and rice were all very very good as well. All complimented each other very well. If you're ever in the van Nuys area, please stop here for breakfast, you won't regret it!

Lovely spot for Mexican food with fun vibes!…read more I came for Sunday brunch/lunch with some friends. I made a reservation through Yelp a couple days beforehand and there was plenty of availability. The restaurant is located right off Ventura Blvd and has an attached parking garage in the basement which can be accessed via the parking lot behind the restaurant. There were plenty of spots available Sunday afternoon when I came. It's a bit hidden, but there is an elevator from the garage to the top level where the restaurant is located as well. We had two babies in strollers with us, so I requested a table with plenty of space nearby for the strollers. They seated us outside on their covered patio, and indeed, we had plenty of space. I peeked inside and there's also a nice lounge area with a beautiful flower wall as well as a proper dining area. When we arrived, there was a live DJ spinning tunes. I assume he's there during brunch hours, as he left around 3 pm when brunch ended. I started with a frozen lime margarita ($12). It was okay; it felt like it was only half frozen as the ice wasn't blended that well. For my main, I got the famous Anejo carne asada and shrimp plate for $40. Yes it was pricy, but the portion size was also huge! I was starving and somehow managed to finish the plate, but it'd be a great dish to share for two people with small appetites. I really enjoyed it as well. I asked for the steak to be cooked rare, and they didn't overcook it. Each bite was super tender and flavorful and paired well with the rice. Everyone else also enjoyed their dish. One friend got the wet chicken burrito for $15 and it was massive! Another got the veggie fajitas with steak added and really enjoyed her dish as well. Solid food all around. I would love to come back on a weekday and try their happy hour! Sipping on $5 margaritas and $6 sangrias sounds like my idea of a great time!

To me Salsa and Beer is THE undisputed best Mexican restaurant of the valley. They have quite a few…read morelocations in the valley but the one I only go to is this White Oak location. It's #1 for a reason! I've been coming here for years now and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon. I usually come here with family and it seems like a lot of other people do too considering I usually see so many other families seated or waiting outside when I'm here. Ever since they opened up the outside part for seating I think it really had given them good seating to accommodate the big crowds. Their menu is filled with authentic Mexican foods, and can get a bit overwhelming with how big their menu is esp if youre indecisive so I'll mention the dishes I'm most familiar with. My favorite thing to order is 2 pork cheese enchiladas. The pork is always so tender (and my personal favorite choice of meat from them). I'm also such sucker for anything cheesey so this definitely marks that box. I also enjoy their potato taquillos. Theyre really big and filling for when I don't feel like eating much meat for dinner. My family is a big fan of their sizzling fajita plate with steak and shrimp. They're really flavorful and the sizzle/smoke when they come out is insane. You can't talk about Salsa and Beer without mentioning their salsa bar and bean dip. Now I don't really enjoy bean dip anywhere else really, but this bean dip I can devour with their freshly made chips. It has a good kick to them as well, they really feel homemade. For their complimentary salsa bar my favorites are the orange salsa and the green creamier one (forgive me I don't know their names). All the other salsas are delicious as well, you just need to find your favorites because there's definitely one for everyone. I have never had bad service here. I never had to wait too long for my food and the chips and bean dip come out immediately after ordering. Now I will say, the interior for this one is quite small considering how many people go here. It's immediately hot the moment you go in and you can find yourself having to squeeze through people when walking past. If 3 people in the whole restaurant were to order sizzling fajitas at the same time, the whole room gets all smokey! I will say as well the parking lot can get quite packed as well. Although I do have some qualms about the size of the room and parking, it does not dock any stars off my review. I figure it would be worth to mention but the food is so good that I will wait however long I need to to eat here. If you ever find yourself in the valley, please stop by!

We ordered from the happy hour menu, and the food was good with decent prices. The drinks, however, were a little disappointing. They were very sugary, including the Cadillac margarita, and unfortunately, they weren't very strong. The service was good and our server was attentive. The music was okay, but it seemed like the same six songs kept playing over and over, which got a little repetitive. The biggest downside for me was when the live band started playing. The music was extremely loud, to the point where it was difficult to hear the people at our own table. I enjoy live music, but the volume made it hard to have a conversation and enjoy the evening. Overall, the food, happy hour prices, and service were good. I'd probably come back, but I'd definitely check whether the live band is playing -- especially if you're looking to have dinner and actually enjoy a conversation.

Pretty good spot for classic Mexican dishes!…read more They have some booths, tables, and a bar area with tvs. They have beer and wine and their cocktails are wine based, so for tequila they will use agave wine. Tried some shots of reposado agave wine and it had the essence of tequila but not as strong. You are greeted with complimentary chips and salsa (always a plus) anddddd bean dip. The chile Relleno burrito, fajitas, and shrimp burrito looked good but whenever I see CARNE EN SU JUGO on the menu, I have to have it- slices of meat cook with onions, bean, and bacon in a green sauce. You eat this in a bowl with tortillas , almost Like a soup and it's just hearty, "spicy", deliciousness. The shrimp that we tried on the carne asada plate was plump, juicy, and well seasoned. I think I will get that shrimp burrito next time. They also serve breakfast all day which is convenient. I'll be back!
