Coming from a family who LITERALLY OWNS pho restaurants, I sympathize with the plight of an operation built on family recipes and hard work. And yet, the only way I can explain our experience today is that of a biblical level injustice. It was as if Judas himself returned to this mortal coil just to stab my friend and I in the eye and leave with our wallets. So here's the story: My vegetarian friend ordered A NUMBER 31: PHO CHAY. Now for those of you unseasoned pho aficionados (unlike me), that's means a vegetarian pho with VEGETARIAN broth. Additionally, the Pho Chay is marked as vegetarian in the menu. 5 minutes later, the waiter places a bowl of hot soup in front of him. Utterly ravenous from a previous night of lecherous debauchery, he eagerly digs in. As soon as he tastes the broth, however, a dismayed look flashes across his face. His supposedly quaint vegan broth had obviously been tainted by the soul of quivering chicken. Upon complaining that our PHO CHAY with vegetarian broth had actually come with CHICKEN BROTH, we proceeded to be the victim of such egregious levels of gaslighting that it can only be compared to that of medical gaslighting experienced by a middle aged women undergoing perimenopause. However, the server eventually gives in to his mistake. He offers a correction. But before he could abscond with the bowl, I asked him if he was planning to throw the meal away. He confirmed that indeed it would be tossed, so I asked if we could keep the original soup as I didn't want to waste food, and I personally have no qualms about eating meat. The server agrees and my friend receives his new bowl free of chicken cruelty. Now you may think, all is well! Cest La Vie right? Not so fast. Injustice imminent: As we went to pay the bill, we were promptly informed that in addition to screwing up our order, WE HAD TO PAY FOR THE BOWL OF UNWANTED CHICKEN PHO. Oh but wait! To add insult to injury, they told us it was 50% off. I was utterly flabbergasted. The 50% off gesture was so criminal it felt as if they had just taken a knife and STABBED US 46 TIMES, and felt kind enough to leave a wet napkin so we could wipe ourselves off. I come here often and forget to update my review. When I walk in, I know what number and how to order. The numbers haven't changed. The staff has but they are all professional. Food is always consistent and although a day had passed I cannot say that my mouth doesn't water thinking about it. The #51 bowl with beef hits the spot. The Phö with tendon is phÖnamenal. They were incredibly considerate toward our son - wiping down the high chair before bringing it over and setting him up with his own bowl, utensils, and water cup. Those small details really stood out. It was busy, but our server Phu was attentive and thoughtful throughout. We ordered the spring rolls, a bowl of pho, and a bun bowl with egg rolls and marinated pork. Portions were huge and the food was good. Forever a classic. Been coming here since I was a little girl and will come here when I have my own little girl. This time I came here after the rainy week we had, usually get a pho tai these days but today was feeling my old favorite (pho ga). The broth was so flavorful yet delicate I opted not to put anything except thai basil and bean sprouts in today (and a little bit of nuoc beo! IYKYK.) Service is fast and food comes out piping hot by a man who likely has no nerve endings in his fingers. The menu has a pretty standard selection of Vietnamese options ranging from vermicelli bowls to rice plates to pho and other noodle soups. I got the #37 mi bo kho ($15.25) but substituted pho noodles instead of of egg noodles. All of our dishes came out pretty quickly after ordering. The first thing you notice is the MASSIVE portion size. All the noodle soups are served in a gigantic metal bowl which is completely filled up. It's not all just soup either, there was plenty of beef chunks in my soup. I was very pleasantly surprised by the generous amount of meat. I loved the flavor of my broth + meat as well. Each bite was super satisfying. I'm not sure how, but I somehow managed to finish the whole bowl. It took a long time though, and I needed plenty of breaks lol My friends all enjoyed their food as well, though one friend was disappointed by their lack of charbroiled chicken (they only had charbroiled pork and beef). The lemongrass chicken stir fry he ended up ordering wasn't as good. This is a pretty big restaurant but it tends to get packed quickly, even just 30 minutes after opening time. This is a really casual restaurant. Service is pretty dry and not really attentive but the food comes quickly and that counts for a Just expect to have to get up to flag someone down if you need something -- including the check. I really enjoyed the food here. The portions are large and the meat is all high quality. I had the banh canh and the broth was delicious, flavorful, and they weren't relying on sugar or MSG to make it rich. The thin pork slices were tender and no grizzle. The vegetables were fresh. My only complaint is that there were not enough noodles for the amount of broth, but I think that's a problem unique to the banh canh and not the pho. Overall, I would come back here again. This place always seems to be lively with people all times during the day. From morning till closing, there's always a good amount of diners. Stopped in for an early dinner which we told to sit wherever we like. It wasn't full yet but did gradually filled upduring our visit. Menu, pho, rice dishes, and noodle dishes basically. Loads of pho options to chose from and it's one size only. They also have beer which is nice if you wanted a cold one with your meal. Started off with the spring roll and fried egg roll. Both really good as always. Fried egg rolls came with garnishes of lettuce, carrots, daikon radish, mint and cucumber. Made to be wrapped with the roll and dipped in the sauce. The spring rill with pork and shrimp just came with peanut sauce for dipping. Both starters were quite tasty. Entrees, the pho which does not take long to arrive. They have batches of broth prepared daily and just add noodles to it and voila. And it's always served with bean sprouts, Asian basil, jalapeño and limes on the side. Add to your liking. Broth was quite nice and tasty. Proton wise, it's quite massive and worth the $15.00. Also got one of the rice dishes with the marinated beef. It's basically the brisket marinated and sautéed on top of rice. That's served with pickle veggies. It was good but I would stick to the pho. And a durian smoothie after the meal.
