Had a fresh squeezed margarita with premium tequila to start, it was just what I needed to end a very busy work day. Had excellent service as well as a great meal. I was not fond of the guacamole though. Was very "Limey" and thin in texture. I had the Pork Burrito with Rice and Beans and it came to the table piping Hot! Large Portion and could not finish it! Prices are a couple more dollars than the average Mexican Place, but it is in a Resort Area. The restaurant, bar and restroom areas were all very clean. Kid friendly with a kids menu also has a Margarita Menu for Adults! I recommend the fresh Squeezed one! Has a different "special" for food or drinks each night so look at the board when you come in and take advantage of that, usually a $2 savings per person! read more

This was our second visit to El Chaparro Tex-Mex Cantina , but the first since new management took over in fall 2016 and we will definitely return. The menu was expanded significantly and the service was excellent. We ordered the Steak Mexicano and Chicken Chilaquiles Verde. Both entree were steaming hot and flavorful. The steak was smothered in onions and bell peppers with sides of rice, beans and tortillas. The chicken was grilled to perfection without being dry, layered over tortilla chips with verde sauce and smothered in cheese, with a side of rice and guacamole salad. Both entrees were $10-12 and adequate portions to take leftovers home for tomorrow. Located just off I-20 at the Highway 278 exit, this location is a welcome addition to Covington's 278 "restaurant row"and will give Applebees and Longhorns some much needed competition. read more

I dined there this evening and had a very pleasant, polite server with a smile! Eventhough they were busy, he was both attentive and prompt with everything. We never had to wait for anything. I ordered the Tex house special. I've had this dish about 10 times this year. Its usually okay, but tonight it was delicious! The steak and chicken was seasoned this time, which definitely enhanced the flavor! Before leaving, I asked the server to tell the cook my meal was great! I sure hope he told them. I'm giving this location five stars because I come here about once a week. Good starters, nice rice and beans, chips, and salsa. No complaints on any of those. The food is good, the staff is usually nice. I highly recommend trying it out. Once in a while, they are not on top of the game. The prices can be just a pinch more than some other local Mexican restaurants. Sometimes the food isn't the same as it was the last time. Sometimes they forget to salt or lime their guac. Went for dinner here the second time. First time was good, but slow and somewhat overpriced for only ok Tex-Mex. This time we had a Restaurant.com gift certificate that we had purchased to use less than a month ago. We ordered more than the required amount of food ($50+ in a Mexican restaurant!) with the certificate sitting on the table for the server to see. He brought the food, took the certificate and came back to tell us that the manager would not honor the certificate because "that company doesn't pay us". What? I'd received an email from that company trying to sell me more gift certificates for that same restaurant a few days before! I felt badly for the server, young, nice guy sent to tell customers that they weren't getting what they thought. We tipped him well - it wasn't his fault that his boss doesn't have the fortitude to talk to customers directly. The food was ok, not special, small portions. But had we known they didn't accept the gift certificate, we probably wouldn't have ordered what we did. So dinner cost substantially more than expected and what could have been a great opportunity for the restaurant to gain loyal guests has become a bad review. We will eat at Amici's next time - a few feet away from their door. Better food, service and the manager actually talks to his customers. By the way - you can still buy gift certificates for this restaurant at Restaurant.com. I recommend that you don't. read more

Waiting on a check forever after you've asked for it and then to pick it up or bring it back...everything is just too slow. We always sit at the bar and she is nice but she shouldn't be waiting on tables as well. A bartender stays behind the bar. This has happened often. The chips were tough and the salsa was "watered" dow with too much tomato sauce. The salsa didn't even have pieces of tomato, pepper, etc. in it. The waitress was hard to understand and seemed too distracted to focus on customer service. The food was served in a timely manner but was dull in taste and bland in appearance. We are from out of town, so it was the first time for us to be eating there and next time we will look for someplace different. read more
