Couldn't stop in Covington without stopping at THE mystic grill. Stopped in during lunch time after our Vampire stalkers tour, no wait and quickly sat. Our waitress was lovely, I had heard about the souvenir glasses you could buy so I got a shot glass with the Damon pancake shot and the vampire Barbie drink. They had a few options for the big souvenir glass - I chose the "it's okay to love them both, I did" Katherine glass. For the meal we tried the fried chicken sandwich and the sweet tea fried chicken. Everything was so good, my favorite meal in Covington! I wish we had room for dessert because everything sounded good. We checked out upstairs and saw the hallway with all the signed menus- so cool!! We haven't been to the Mystic Grill in forever but oh it was so cozy for the holidays! We love coming here when in Covington Square as it holds so much nostalgia. We sat on the roof which was nice and quiet. The service was quick and the waitress was super nice. The first time the food came out it was cold, but she was super quick to get it warm for us. We got the blackened shrimp Alfredo and it was pretty flavorful, I would totally get again! The fries were also delicious. We did get two drinks and they were just alright. Every time I come to Covington, I plan to stop here but my plans end up changing. Luckily, I finally got to stop in and try their dinner menu. It was busy but we were seated right away and our server, Rico, was great, very upbeat and attentive. Very good food. I had the sweet tea fried chicken with mashed potatoes, green beans, and gravy. We also tried the pimento cheese appetizer, which was quite good. We chose to have it served warm with the crackers. It is some serious comfort food served basically on a movie set. I never watched Vampire Diaries, but I know what a big deal it is for people who visit here. It is always busy and there is always a wait (at least on the weekends). We tried to go twice, and finally the third time we tried was a charm. It was only about 40 minutes towards the end of the night. Service is friendly and decor is lovely. Must-see location when visiting Covington. There are tons of signatures and pictures of celebrities who have also visited. The staff here is super kind and friendly to tourists. It was even cooler going down to the gift shop beneath the restaurant. The food was mostly normal bar food with some exceptions. You absolutely need to try the Chicken & Waffle Sliders. Cute place and fun to take photos outside if you're a Vampire Diaries fan! I got the blueberry lemonade pancake shot that was inspired by the prison world pancakes Damon makes in the show & got to keep the shot glass! This was my first time at the Mystic Grill and I loved it! The place is located in Downtown Covington and is part of the Vampire Dairies experience in the town. What we tried: Chicken & Waffle Sliders: Belgian Waffles, Blackberry Jam, Candied Jalapeños. This is my top favorite thing on the menu! It's absolutely amazing! The Clocktower Burger: Beef Patty, Caramelized Onion, Farm Egg, Smoked Bacon, Cheddar Cheese, Onion Rings. Best burger I've had in a very long time. Ordered it medium and it was cooked to perfection. Also their fries are soooo good! Mystic Patty Melt: Beef Patty, Caramelized Onions, Havarti, Cheddar, Chipotle Ranch. Good but not my fav. My husband also tried a cocktail made with Brothers Bond Rye Bourbon and he said it was really good and strong. The restaurant is so cozy inside and everyone was so nice. Service was very fast as well once seated, but we did have to wait for over an hour for our table so I suggest getting there early. I can't remember the exact name but something along the lines of that. It was very comfortable and we were waited on immediately. We placed our drink orders and then Miles let us decide for a few more minutes. He came back with our drinks and we placed our orders. I had the glazed salmon and it was amazing. The rice with cranberries and pecans was ridiculously great. I forgot to mention I had the Mystic salad as an appetizer and that was phenomenal. There theme is Wizardry world of Harry Potter. Beautifully decorated inside as the ambiance is always delightful here. The food is so good that am coming back to try the salmon burger but today I dabble with the Buffalo chicken sliders, truly delicious! The most delicious and tasty. The food was honestly not that great in my opinion but that might've been due to what I ordered. The drink wasn't strong and super sweet which I wasn't the biggest fan of. The service however was super friendly, and given that you're visiting this restaurant for the sake of the vampire diaries universe, my expectations for food weren't high to begin with. Visiting the Mystic Grill is a MUST if you are a TVD, The Originals, or Legacies fan. Being a HUGE fan myself, my hubby and I had to eat lunch here during our visit of the lovely Covington Georgia. To start off, this restaurant can get pretty packed because of the many fans that visit so I would suggest to make a reservation just in case. There is also a few tables outside you can choose from. We sat inside and let me tell you, it was an experience! We went around December so the restaurant was decked out with decorations. It was beautiful. The bar area has stools in memory of Alaric and Damon (Loved that detail of the BFFs). And everywhere around the restaurant you will see memorabilia of the shows. It was so much fun exploring! They even have a second floor which has more cool stuff to look at. Also has seating in the second floor. I heard before you would be able to have access to the roof area which has a railing - lots of fans would take the opportunity to take pictures of the clock tower but there was an incident where people were doing something they weren't supposed to and now this area is off limits. Sucks but understandable. Not sure if this has changed since our visit. For the appetizer, we tried the Fried Green Tomatoes and it was tasty. We will probably try something different next time. For our entree, we ordered The Clocktower Burger because hellooo. It's a 10oz beef patty with a huge onion ring on top. It was sooooo good. Cooked to perfection which I ordered Medium. Can't remember what I ordered as my drink but it was good. No complaints there. They also have a store on the other side of the building "The Alley Gifts" which you can find more neat stuff to see and buy based on the TV series. This is my second time at the Mystic Grill and I haven't stopped thinking about the chicken I had a year ago here since I was last here. I ordered it again and it was just as delectable. Chicken is the best i've ever had, mashed potatoes are buttery, green beans are perfectly seasoned. Atmosphere is always great, and huge shout out to the amazing host and service team who do a great job of managing as many walk ins as they do. We opted to visit downtown Covington on a whim, mostly since a friend of my wife's had been there recently. We mostly intended to do a self-guided walking tour of some antebellum homes, but we were going to arrive around lunchtime so we scoped out a place to eat. We arrived just at opening time (11 a.m.) on a Saturday. There was already a fair crowd outside who had apparently beaten us to the wait-list. We put our names in and were told that it would be 15-20 minutes. While we waited, we had time to observe the other patrons as well as some of the surrounding businesses (and some passing trolleys). What I pieced together from t-shirts, business names, etc. was that Covington is or was the filming location for some TV show called "The Vampire Diaries". I'm guessing that the fictional town name in the show was Mystic Falls, or something like that. So, apparently the restaurant took its name from the show...? We got our table (a high-top) in the specified time-window. We noticed that the adjoining table (of college-age females) was getting wine / cocktails in sort of blood / IV bags. I assume that is part of the vampire theme...? We did not get the blood bags as our drinks, though. I had a salad and my wife had a sandwich. We both thought that the food was good (I finished mine). Service was decently paced, though they had a LOT of servers and were quite busy. Most of the guests who come here appeared to be fans of the associated TV show. If I were to have lunch in downtown Covington again soon, I might opt for a non-themed venue. I have nothing against this place, but if you have to pay a bit extra or fight more of a crowd to eat there and you aren't a fan, maybe you should try one of the multiple other places fronting the square.
