AFTUH' CHURCH PLATE
Timia W.

Great service! Perfect after church vibe, small and intimate. The after church plate had everything I needed! I gave the yams to my nephew because I don't eat them so my plate looks incomplete but honestly it was the perfect portion and good flavors! Chicken was fried well, mac was good, greens flavorful. I recommend

The breakfast platter was just okay. But the ambiance is beautiful. The place is pretty small but I think I probably would give it another try.

First stop during our visit to Covington and what a cute little place. It's small but inviting with a colorful mural depicting a modern day community last supper which was beautiful to look at. It was fairly early but restaurant was already pretty full but we were given a choice of where we wanted to sit which is always nice to be asked. Our server was bubbly and pleasant full of hospitable Southern charm! The drinks were very good and we took her recommendations on best dishes and ordered. I ordered the blackened salmon with crab cream sauce, however the salmon came out deep fried?! It was well seasoned but not blackened so yes I was disappointed. I didn't bother mentioning it because how does a chef confuse fried with blackened?! I also got red rice that was dry and felt like it wasn't made today and lacked any flavor. My crab cream sauce was clearly broken and oily although flavorful. My companion got a seafood boil over grits and everything was fried again although seasoned and tasty it shouldn't have been called a boil. I was offered to replace the red rice with the crab rice and unfortunately bit into a shell. Cute place with great service and atmosphere; food needs some refining but overall well-seasoned and flavorful.

Salmon, 1 shrimp, 1 oyster, rice n corn

My husband and I went back here for dinner for my bday last Wednesday, 11-26. Since it was the day before Thanksgiving, it was very slow. We were seated immediately. It seems as though it was just 2 ppl working the front...which wasn't bad, but it did make things slower...even though they weren't busy...but we weren't in a rush. I ordered the salmon with fried oysters and shrimp...so I thought! It was only 1 fried oyster and 1 shrimp...yep you heard it right...ONE!! LMBO!! Who does that?...I guess they do! The one oyster was soooo good!! I actually didn't know what it was when I ate it...I've never had a fried oyster before...well at least not that I can remember and it was GREAT!! The Hubs got fried shrimp w/ a crabcake and rice. He said it was good also. We will go back again and will want to try to other locations in the near future.

Mac and cheese was delicious, greens were good...a bit salty, stewed chicken was good, but a little dry

Since my previous review from a year ago I definitely can see that this business is growing because the food is still delicious!! They now have have a much better menu with many more options. The gumbo was excellent, the bread pudding was to die for, and the stuffed flounder was very tasty with plenty of crab stuffing! The stewed chicken dish was good. But my only complaint was that the chicken was a bit hard, which made it somewhat dry. The bartender Tee was excellent and although they didn't have the large ice cubes for the old-fashioned, it was still an excellent drink!! I will definitely be back to check out the happy hour. Excellent service, excellent food, but a bit pricey.

Bar drinks I can't remember the names, but they were delicious

We went for Valentine's Day and didn't have a reservation. They were able to accommodate us at the bar and it was super busy. The bartender was great for the most part but later on I think in the chaos of the rush, she forgot to put in our order so we ended up waiting over an hour for our food, even though tables around us, got their food ahead of us. The food was OK I thought it would be tastier. Not sure if I would come back, but the drinks were really good. The bartender did a good job with that.

Tried Virgil's Gullah Kitchen & Bar in Conyers. The food was really good, service was average and I only say that because there was only one waitress and she was waiting the whole restaurant and the bar. Bless her! We were celebrating a birthday and had the bread pudding and banana pudding cheesecake OMG... SO good. We highly recommend the restaurant and the desserts!

Very good. I always love ordering from here. I ordered from the Conyers location and they never miss.

Brought my cousins from NJ to Virgil's Gullah Kitchen. Ambiance was cozy, vibes felt like Sunday dinner. I got the SATUHDAY MORNIN', bacon, eggs, Bread Puddin' Waffle, cheddar grits. All homemade tasting. Only downside was a bit of a wait when it got busy. Still worth it. My cousins loved it

With Conyers being a small town, options were limited. This establishment however was recommended multiple times with rave reviews and did not disappoint. There was some confusion with our reservation due to it not being in their server, but we were still able to be sat. For a Friday afternoon, the place was packed but not overcrowded. All of the food we ordered was great and have absolutely no complaints. They also had a bomb playlist playing early 90s R&B. My favorites were their Sol E Gre Crab Cakes and Fushamen's Nuggits. Everything was seasoned well and fried to perfection, and the portions were enough to take home for a second wave of Southern goodness. Service was a bit slow, my mom did have to get up and check on a drink order and go to the server to ask for to go boxes. Overall I would dine here again.

Sangria look good but taste was nasty

I visited Virgil's Gullah Kitchen & Bar and unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. When I arrived, the host was friendly, and I seated myself at the bar. However, I waited over 20 minutes before the bartender acknowledged me. It took another several minutes just to receive water and even longer to get my drink. After receiving my drink, I was largely ignored and still hadn't been able to place a food order after sitting there for nearly 40 minutes. The only reason I was finally able to order was because a gentleman who introduced himself as a part-owner noticed I had been sitting there without food. He was very friendly, professional, and seemed genuinely concerned. He personally stepped in and helped get my order placed. What made the experience worse was hearing employees openly discussing workplace issues and other staff members in front of customers. Cooks were walking in and out, and the overall atmosphere felt disorganized and unprofessional. As someone who enjoys supporting Black-owned businesses, I believe professionalism and customer service should always be a priority. As for the food, it looked better than it tasted. The fried green tomatoes were disappointing because the cornmeal coating was falling off. The mac and cheese was very dry. The fried chicken was okay but lacked seasoning and flavor. The collard greens had good meat in them, but they were overly seasoned, not as tender as expected, and contained too many stems. The sweet potatoes were probably the best thing I had, although they tasted mostly like sweet potatoes topped with brown sugar. The drink was average at best and barely had any ice, so it quickly became warm. Overall, the bartender made what could have been a decent experience a frustrating one. She appeared unfriendly and inattentive throughout my visit. The part-owner was the highlight of the experience, but one good interaction wasn't enough to make up for the poor service. Overall rating: 2/5 Unfortunately, I won't be returning.

Menu

I've been dying to try this place. However the experience was horrible. I asked about the happy hour that is advertised and was told they didn't have one. The only deal was available was a 30 sampler that was half price and $5 marg. We waited for over an hour for our food after asking where was the food. And to top it off we were forced to pay 20% tip even though the bill was not over 100 and it was only 2 people in my party. The menu stated that that was the only requirement for the automatic gratuity.

This spot though small it was truly a vibe and the ambiance was really nice. There was a DJ, he kept it old school hip-hop, R&B, with a little mix of today. He and the host/hypeman kept the party going for sure. They had a little karaoke going on, not sure if it was karaoke night or just something they do for fun, but it surly helped the evening be more enjoyable. Our server was everything, such personality, and very attentive. He handled our party with ease. Me and my homegirl ordered Lemon Pepper Fried Okra, Hanging Pork Belly Bacon, Ciroc and cranberry, and Honey Jack with Coke. Everything came out pretty quick and the Okra was yummy! There are 2 restrooms in separate areas of the lounge and they are unisex, the one I used was clean, which is always a plus...especially if used by men and women. If I'm down for taking a drive, I could see myself going again, for the Okra, the DJ, and crowd was age appropriate. If I get out, I need a crowd that makes my 51 year old self feel comfortable and here it did.

Love you Brunches…read more Good morning everyone I'm writing you this review because I want the ownership to listen very carefully and heed my words. Also, this review is being written even before my wife and I have received our meal. Love You Brunches is a small, off the beat and path eatery with good food. The one thing that will always damage the reputation of a place like this, and I have seen hundreds during my business travels across this nation, is CUSTOMER SERVICE. Your staff is the front facing asset to your business and is a direct reflection of the ownership. I am sure you guys seen many reviews talking about customer service and this is now another one. When patrons are sat in section of your wait staff and they are busy attending other tables, the last thing you should do is not acknowledge their presence. Today, we sat and watched the staff walk by us a couple of times without saying a single word. Now, we can see that they are busy, but to not acknowledge us is unacceptable. If you would have said, " good morning, I will be with your folks" OR any kind of communication to us would have been nice. I then flagged down the hostess( Aiyana) WHO WAS REALLY SWEET AND HELPFUL, to see whose section we were in. She apologized and went to let the young lady know to stop by our table. The hostess is the one who then brought us water. Eventually, the waitress finally made it our table with a greeting that was more mechanical/robotic , than caring. I just wanted to end this experience right there but I was hungry . To the future diners, hopefully this review helps you if you are looking for a great dining experience. Do your research on the reviews and see for yourself. To management of Love You Brunches, you have work to do. Again, these folks are front facing to your business. Make sure they understand that.

You wouldn't know that from the website nor just walking in. That would've been nice to know beforehand so we wouldn't have wasted our time. The inside has an interesting look and feel but they at least played some good music. We went for Sunday brunch around 11:30. The server was a bit slow, and it wasn't extremely busy. I ordered the fish and grits and my sister got the shrimp and grit balls. None of it was seasoned, with MAYBE the exception of the Cajun sauce that came in both dishes. If you're like me, you know it's not hard to even lightly season seafood or even grits, so it was disappointing the flavors, or lack of, that we got. Will we be back? Eh idk. I really wanted to see if things had improved since my last visit with a large party. Unfortunately, it still feels like a place with potential that's not being supported properly. When we walked in, I thought things had turned around. The new host (her first day) was amazing warm, confident, and professional. She gave a great first impression. But once seated, it went downhill. * The music was way too loud, to the point where we had to lean in just to talk. * There was only one server working the entire restaurant, which meant slow service, long waits, and a stressed-out vibe. Let's talk food: The fish and grits (see photo) were phenomenal easily the best thing I've had on both visits. Creamy, flavorful, and cooked just right. The chicken and waffles (see photo) were average. Chicken was seasoned okay, but the waffle was a bit underwhelming and slightly rubbery. This place could be a standout in the area the branding, the menu ideas, the food (when it hits) are all there. But the inconsistency, staffing issues, and volume level hold it back. Would I come back? Maybe, for the fish and grits. But only if I hear they've fixed the basics.
