I love eating breakfast at Eggs Up Grill! Being gluten-free, it's not always easy to find a good Eggs Benedict, but they absolutely deliver here. The hollandaise sauce and eggs are perfectly paired with the Canadian bacon and gluten-free toast, and it always hits the spot. It also comes with a side of freshly prepared hash browns, which are a great addition. The staff has consistently been friendly, accommodating, and very understanding of my allergies, which makes a big difference. What the hell happened to this place?? We have been here plenty of times, and the food *used to be* good... this past weekend, we had family visiting, so we wanted them to give it a try as well. We were a party of 8, so we were planning on having to wait... but to our surprise, we were seated immediately, because it wasn't busy. So that was nice. But unfortunately... everyone's order was cold. All 8 orders. The peppers and onions were the worst, because they tasted like freezer burn. Eggs, potatoes, waffles, pancakes, sausage, bacon... all cold and hard, like it had been sitting out for a while. My kid was too afraid to eat his eggs because he didn't want to get sick. Went to eggs up grill on a Sunday which is clearly the busiest time. So, we sat at the bar which was fun because we got to peek right into the kitchen. It took a minute for the waitress to get to us but she was really friendly and put in our order right away. I got a cup of coffee which had a weird flavor to it but maybe it's just me. It was so crowded in the kitchen that they had to put down supplies on the bar table we were sitting. I didn't mind but I wish they had more room. I got the corn beef hash and it was SO good. The hash was hot and fresh and so were the eggs. Home fries were perfectly seasoned. My fiancé got the strawberry pancakes. I happened upon this little place one morning by chance. I had just finished my annual physical exam which required fasting for 12 hours and I was RAVENOUS. Usually that makes me susceptible to making a bad food choice in the interest of expediency. I was about to do that when I saw this place and decided to give it a try. That was one of my better decisions of the week because this place ROCKS. First, it is deceptive from the outside because it looks like a little spot tucked in a strip mall. When you go in, it's is surprisingly large, open, and airy. And the tables are not crammed together so you can find a table and actually have a nice meal chatting with friends without having people at other tables right up in your business. It is colorful, bright and cheerful with fun slogans ("let me make you smile" and "this is my happy place") and great music. There were a couple of regulars behind me and the manager (owner) came up from the back to greet them, and tell the hostess they were regulars and make sure they got seated in their favorite spot. Very cool. The menu has a great range of options - both sweet or savory. I was feeling the savory this morning so I ordered "the Homestead" which was 2 eggs, bacon strips, sausage and a single biscuit with gravy. This was perfect because I was really jonesing for biscuits and gravy but didn't want a whole entree based on that. The biscuit was amazing, as was the gravy. I like my eggs over hard and a lot of places mess that up (either overcooked or a little runny) but they nailed it. Bacon was perfect - juicy and chewy with just a teensy bit of crispiness and the sausage links were great too. Despite it souring like an enormous amount of food, it was not excessive because the portion size of each item was just right. Almost like a little sampler with just enough of each thing to satisfy. Coffee was great. Service (Stacy) was perfect - she was cheerful and friendly, and she also had that great instinct of when to come around and be friendly, and when to leave me alone to enjoy my meal. Bottom line: Eggs Up Grill was around a 3.5 stars food experience this visit but excellent service at the back counter area pushes them up to solid 4 stars. I really enjoyed the scrambled eggs with sausage and biscuit/gravy in the Southern Staples meal. Coffee could be a bit more flavorful/strong for me and grits were a bit runny for my preference. Pancake flavor did not come through for me as would have expected. The Deets: I went venturing out to Apex to try out one of the Eggs Up Grill locations I have seen popping up around lately. The restaurant, once inside, is bright and clean with a nice diner type atmosphere. Since I was dining solo, I was invited to eat at the first-come-first-served counter area in the back next to the kitchen which I took them up on as I like a good counter meal experience. I was quickly given my coffee beverage choice and just enough time to look at the menu without a long wait. I went with the Southern Staples meal which is menu described as two eggs, sausage biscuit, side of sausage gravy, choice of home fries or grits, in which I chose grits. I liked my scrambled eggs which were done as I preferred (not runny, solid while still soft a bit). I was given two sausage patties with my biscuit so I split the biscuit then placed a patty on each half and used the side of sausage gravy on each one. The sausage biscuit and gravy was very good, I loved the taste and consistency of the gravy in which it was flavorful but not too spicy (too spicy ruins it for me). Biscuits and gravy with sausage patties worked great with the scrambled eggs. The grits tasted OK but they were a bit runny for my taste personally, I prefer my grits a bit creamier in texture. I also ordered a pancake on the side and loved the fluffy texture of the pancake but I felt I needed more pancake flavor to come through, even with butter/syrup added. I ordered 3 Boston Cream donuts to go with me home as I loved how they looked on the holiday menu, however when they came to me they were not put together...the topping and filling were packaged separately for me to place together when I got home. I do realize and appreciate this packaging was likely to make the donuts fresher when the time comes to eat them but I cannot help I was a bit disappointed after seeing the menu picture. My coffee was lacking solid flavor as well, it could have been a bit stronger in taste. My coffee was not as strong and flavorful as I would like, but my coffee cup was never empty due to my great server Yael at the counter. She was cheerful, helpful, and was excellent in giving a nice counter service experience on this visit. I would say I feel honestly around 3.5 stars for my food experience but round up to a definite 4 stars for great service in a nice atmosphere. read more

Today was my first time trying Eggs Up. I arrived around 10am and, unsurprisingly for a Sunday morning, the place was busy. Luckily there was still seating available and no wait. For how busy the place was, it was very clean. I'm trying to eat a little healthier, so I opted for the Goodness Gracious omelette. Not the best omelette I've ever had, but it was good. Id order it again. I liked that they had ketchup, hot sauce, creamer, etc. at the table so I didn't have to ask for it. The one thing I was not a fan of was their coffee. It was pretty bland. I tried this for the first time thinking t had just opened. Turns out it's been open about six months. I was a bit surprised when the waitress was put off when I asked not to be seated near the door as it was a cold day. She did allow me to move to a warmer spot, but she never did warm up to me no matter how nice I tried to be. I ordered the eggs benedict, but was surprised that not only was there season salt on top of the hollandaise sauce, but all throughout the fried potatoes making it a Very salty meal. The inside of the store has some diner-like elements to it, overall very clean and has ample amounts of seating. The menu included a plethora of options for breakfast, brunch, as well as drinks. The service was great, we got our food rather quickly and were able to get everything we needed plus some extra coffee to-go. I ordered the loaded home fry power bowl, that meal was hefty. The brunch burger was creamy, flavorful and messy. The breakfast potato's looked seasoned to my eye but my tastebuds disagreed. This is a great spot for breakfast. We had a short wait and they were busy. I understand why they were busy as the hash they make is fresh and delicious. I tried I assume one of the signature dishes - FOUNDER'S HASH BENEDICT - corned beef hash made with potatoes, onions and special spices on a toasted English muffin, topped with two poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. This was a generous portion and the hollandaise was creamy with a nice hint of lemon. I opted for potato's and loved the dish. I could only eat half of the meal. I also feel the price is reasonable. I came early this morning for a quick breakfast, and had a wonderful experience. The decor and ambiance is super cool - it's reminiscent of an older diner with a newer feel. I received my food quickly, and it tasted amazing. I got the goodness gracious omelet for a healthier alternative, and it was filled to the brim with spinach and mushrooms. They definitely do not skimp on fillings/toppings. I also got the house fries as a side. They were seasoned perfectly, crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. When it comes to breakfast Eggs Up is where hubby & I go. The Omelets are fantastic and some days it's a tough decision which one to choose. I keep telling myself I'll try a sandwich on the next trip but never get past the the egg dishes. The only improvements I'd suggest is more variety in tea choices and better decaf coffee. read more

Hello everyone, we did something that has become pretty rare since Covid...going to breakfast. Eggs Up Grill just opened so we thought we would give it a shot. As always, I am giving my opinion based on the type of restaurant, price point and service expectation. (See my very old write up on Baskin Robbins's in Morehead city for an example). The place was nice, very clean and the service was spot on. The atmosphere was fun and bright. Our waitress was attentive and I really like the way the servers backed each other up on refills and checking in on us after we were fed. An interesting thing we realized as we finished up the meal, the servers came by a lot in a passive aggressive way to push us out as the line at the door was backing up. This was not a 5 star meal, so we are usually sensitive to moving on in most restaurants. However we were finishing our coffee and it became a little annoying. We on purposely ordered basic breakfast items to get a first time feel of how well they make a standard breakfast. The menu has many very delicious looking items, but I'm pretty much a basic breakfast person. Positives: The coffee is really good, most breakfast places usually miss this, (see my other breakfast reviews from long ago..). The portions good size for the price point. I also really liked that they offered Turkey bacon and sausage as an alternate protein to pork. Nice! The fruit cup was above average offering an abundance of blue berries and strawberries and grapes, verses the usual over use of honey dew melon and cantaloupe. Items to improve on: The first thing I noticed was no pancake egg combo meal. The grits were very watery and runny, not creamy like should be expected in the south. The scrambled eggs were good, but not great, they needed more cream. The toast offering were like store bought bread, good but nothing special. The slices were very small. The price of the beverages were high, $4.29 for a glass of orange this is excessive considering it was not fresh squeezed. Coffee was $3 a cup, the coffee was good but not $3 per cup good. In summary, Eggs Up may need another visit as they have just opened (and we need to try the pancakes), but they will not be our first choice. The speciality menu items looked really good, but the basic breakfast was average. They did have a few items that stood out, but I had to go with 3 stars because of average food, very watery grits, sub average toast, the expensive beverages plus the push to get us out at the end of the meal. read more

Service was great. Our wait was short. I was pleased to see that, in the midst of an egg shortage, they had not raised the prices of their eggs and egg-based items. However, when our orders arrived our two scrambled eggs seemed more like one or one and a half at best. Never had this issue before. I'm sure we will go back at some point. Just maybe get my eggs over easy or sunny side up. I do wish they would replace the hard as sharp rocks metal and wood chairs. Very uncomfortable if you can't get a booth. read more

I wrote a review last year when we were visiting Apex to see family. So we decided to try it again last week. Again, it was good. I had a Greek omelette with grits and toast. I really like the grits. My husband didn't want a big meal so ordered a single scrambled egg and bacon. He said the bacon was quite good. Our server, though the only one and busy, was attentive and friendly. Was hoping Apex had a great new breakfast place, unfortunately not so. Ordered "Founders Recipe" corned beef hash and eggs. Corned beef hash was out of the can and certainly nothing special. They probably bought it at Publix next door. Potatoes were cold and really not edible. On the bright side, eggs over easy were cooked to perfection and the service was excellent. I tried this restaurant, just a couple of days ago for my sons "birthday breakfast". I live practically walking distance from the restaurant. I was happy to see something new to give me a break from "shiny diner" whose service and quality of food has dropped off dramatically. It was nice to walk into this new place and see that it was bright and shiny and clean. The staff were great. Our server was very nice and chatty. Unfortunately, I have to say the food was marginal at best. Although everyone of us had eggs cooked to absolute perfection, my grits were so runny they literally ran through my fork like water. I had ordered the hash and eggs. The hash was full of gristle and fat, and probably 20% of it landed off on the side of my plate. Very disappointing. Will likely not return again. When I gave this feedback to the server, she was very open about it and listened and did say to me that it was not the first time she heard the exact same complaints from other customers but it sounds like nothing has been done about it so I'm going to pass and probably stick with first watch for a little bit longer read more
