Y'all, why has it been so long since I've eaten here? I've been wanting fried chicken (yeah, I could cook it, but so much work), and then my daughter made herself a waffle the other night...........so I HAD to go. We got there around noon, and it was popping. I mean, it's a Wednesday and very busy, but no wait. We each got the chicken and waffles. My daughter had asked if they would give her regular butter, since she's not a fan of strawberries.............but she enjoyed the strawberry butter very much. I'm sure we could have split it, but nope, we each got it. Half a chicken, cut into the individual pieces, and that huge, fluffy, flavorful waffle with that nice scoop of strawberry butter. We brought our limited leftovers home, yes, we mostly ate our food. For a place with a pretty extensive, but not huge, menu, it is good. The chicken and waffles though are awesome. Our server was Jonny, and he was fast, efficient and pleasant. We hope to visit again soon, very soon. read more

The Metro Diner is always busy, so I did expect a little bit of a wait. I was told 20-25 minutes and waited that long outside. Then, I moved inside to see what the delay was, and the host tried to seat me at the counter. Really? I'd been waiting 30 minutes, and you won't seat me at the empty table. So I declined and said I'd wait for my table. I never got a notice on my phone either, so what was the point of that system if you need to be inside the small waiting area to be called? I could see the open table, but I was not seated for another ten minutes. They didn't want me at the big table. Then it was interesting to watch all the staff walk by and ask who had my table. How do they not know which tables each person has? Someone eventually came by, asked if I'd been helped, and took my drink and food orders, since I'd been waiting quite a while. I ordered a half-and-half tea. I'm not sure she knew what that was, as she kept saying "unsweet". The first tea was half-and-half, but the refill was unsweetened. I went with the chicken pot pie, as that is what caught my eye. I expected a delicious dish, but what I received was disappointing. The ratio of the chicken, gravy and veggies was way off. I'd say there was enough low-quality processed chicken for three to four people, a little gravy and even less veggies. I had a bowl of processed chicken cubes with a splash of sauce, not what I had in mind. I usually skip the pastry part, but I ate that as I needed something other than chicken. I left some of the chicken in the dish. The waitress didn't even offer me a to-go box. It was that bad that I wouldn't eat it anyway. My check was brought out soon after I got my food. I don't understand the rush, but bringing the check early won't get me out any faster and lowers your tip. This was just a really bad experience, and I don't see myself returning. Metro Diner is extremely popular. You have to be brave to gone here on a weekend as the wait can exceed an hour. We decided to wait it out one day after a previously failed attempt. The menu is large and varied. I wanted both fried chicken and traditional breakfast food and they were able to accommodate both. The food comes out fast, so they are able to move people in and out fairly quickly. The pancakes are huge but good. I would definitely come back, but on a weekday. read more

The usual servers were pretty good. The one serving today had no personality and seemed to have a chip on his shoulders. At the end, I was somewhat successful in getting smile out of him but it didn't last. He did the job ok but certainly didn't look like he enjoyed it. The food was excellent, I got the Bissell breakfast. With some cinnamon butter on the side. The bathroom was clean, our whole party really enjoyed their food. The host Dom i believe is his name initially he said a table of 6 would be an hour wait time on a busy Saturday. Then I asked about spilting the tables 3 and 3 to which he accommodated easily. Then when we saw where we were seating & that there was some empty tables after speaking to him he easily worked it out so all 6 of us can sit together. His service was above & beyond. Now the waitress brooklyn took care of all of us Iike she was servicing family at home. She was excellent, attentive and a reason we will come back to eat there. Once again we were all pleased with the staff, the speed of the food coming to our table even on a busy day, it being clean as well. I definitely recommend coming here. read more

We had just rolled into town after our road trip and were ready for brunch. I researched Metro Diner having a few locations, all with great reviews, so it seemed like a best bet first stop. We checked in around 2 PM and the place was busy. We chose outdoor seating and even though it was warm, it wasn't that Miami heat, so we were perfectly happy enjoying the outside. It also got us seated a little quicker. We had some time to look at the menu while waiting and ended up ordering the chicken and waffles, meat lovers scramble bowl, the Bissell Breakfast, and the biscuits and sausage gravy with eggs and hash browns. Our food came out pretty quickly and maybe, just maybe, it was the long ride talking, but this foodie family likes to taste each other's dishes and we all agreed everything hit. My chicken and waffles came with a strawberry butter. Yep, that was hitting. The cheesy grits with the Bissell Breakfast, hitting. The gravy on the biscuits, also hitting. And that scramble bowl that was loaded with meaty goodness, you guessed it, hitting. Our waitress was super friendly and took great care of us the entire time, which made our meals hit even better. Went to have breakfast around 10:30 on June 29. We have been eating there for many years. Food and service was great but the deafening FIRE ALARM went off for a lengthy period of time before finally stopping. Then after a minute or two it started blaring again for another period. After stopping again it began again for a 3rd time! Very upsetting during a meal. For our experience and After asking, we were awarded a whopping $2.70 off our check. Metro Diner is a great comfort food establishment. I have been to this restaurant on Falls of Neuse Road in Raleigh and the one in Venice, FL. We were looking for a restaurant on Sunday evening. Metro Diner came to mind. The restaurant is at the end of a strip mall in the Sutton Square neighborhood. It has tables, booths and a counter. A 1950/1960's nostalgia decor with outside seating. The service was very good. And the food, delicious. I had shrimp and grits. It was just the right amount of eclectic tastes. My daughter had the salmon with mashed potatoes and broccoli. I had dinner here with my son the other night. They serve breakfast all day long so we decided to get something from the breakfast menu. The staff is very friendly and very accommodating and the ambiance has like a 1950s or 1960s vibe to it. I ordered the traditional eggs Benedict with hash browns. I'm always looking for a good eggs benedict. The egg and the ham were cooked perfectly the English muffin was cold and could not eat much of the hash browns because they were too greasy. My son ordered the eggs Benedict with chicken he had home fries that were deep fried. The chicken was cooked well the eggs were cooked while the Hollandaise sauce was good the English muffin was cold but the saving grace of that dish was the deep fried home fries they were very good. I have to compliment the service staff, if it weren't for them I'd be given this review a three but because of their professionalism, their kindness and their attention to detail I am giving this four stars. read more

Friendly diner with a great menu and variety of options. We were visiting family from out of town and they were able to accommodate our group of 8 with one baby when someone called ahead. The menu has the traditional breakfast items featuring a few with a spin like eggs Benedict with fried chicken or avocado egg bowls. I got the avocado toast that didn't break the bank with an addition of 2 poached eggs and feta cheese. The servicing size was just right! Everyone in the party enjoyed the food, from sausage gravy biscuits to cinnamon roll pancakes. They had a high seat set up for the baby which was nice. The staff is friendly and hospitable. We were in the area around noon Sunday and found this place on yelp. Nice restaurant for brunch /lunch. Lots of breakfast items and lunch selections. Onion rings were good - I'd like it better if the batter is less thick. Boneless chicken wings - we picked buffalo flavor so yummy , wanna try other flavors. Ribs - hubby had the full rack - very good and he needed my son's help to finish. Cheese burger - my son ate the whole thing Shrimp n grits - I loved it. It was a bit rich but not overpowering and comparing to other places - there are more ingredients - sausage pieces, bacon pieces , onion and peppers. Not regretting a small setback to my diet. Wanted to try chicken and waffles which was highly recommended on yelp but the calories count was a bit high - maybe after I reach my weight goals. Stopped in on a Tuesday afternoon around 2pm. We were greeted and seated right away. It was our servers first week and he did an exceptional job. The food came out quickly and was delicious. I tried Metro Diner for a weekday lunch when I was in the area for an appointment. There was a line waiting for a table, but they were able to seat me at the counter with no wait. My Tangy Chicken Bowl was good. It came with a very large serving of lightly fried chicken, clearly just out of the fryer, that had been lightly tossed in sauce. The cook clearly showed some finesse with the chicken as it was a notch above what I expected. The rice was OK, but not exceptional. If there was a weak point to my meal, it was the service. For some reason the server was surprised that I needed silverware to eat my meal. But that is nitpicking what is otherwise a positive experience. This is a very busy restaurant, but it didn't really feel like a diner. Sitting at the counter, I got to watch the kitchen crew deal with a large numbers of orders very efficiently. They were very impressive and I think the unsung heroes of Metro Diner's success. read more

What a great spot! You walk in and automatically you get that diner feel. Servers were super welcoming and the food was delicious and abundant. Three egg breakfast was solid and only $11.49. Home fries and toast were light and toasted. The Bissell Breakfast was also great with the grits, biscuits and pancakes being delicious. I've visited Metro Diner several times and consistently order the chicken and waffles with the strawberry butter. It's always been good, but lately, the chicken has tasted a little burnt and like it was fried in old grease. The waffles are still great, though! Metro Diner please do better! I was seated and no one ever came over for about 15 minutes, I was reading so I really want paying attention. I flagged down the host and he got someone over about 6 minutes later. I ordered the Southwest Breakfast bowl with a fried egg. Of course it comes out with scrambled and they wanted me to move the eggs to the side and just bring me a scrambled egg to place on top. I had to ASK for the entire bowl to be re-made because of how the toppings are layered especially with the salsa and sour cream. The bowl was a 2 out of 10, I won't be ordering again and might have to find another diner to frequent. The service was horrible. While in the area this morning I stopped in for a early breakfast with my daughter. We were seated immediately upon entering. Kourtney was our waitress and she provided excellent southern hospitality. The staff here are excellent. Friendly and courteous. Within minutes before we could blink our food was delivered to us fresh and hot. The Belgian Waffles are excellent. Very thick and cake like. I requested the famous strawberry butter. If you enjoy Dames' smears, then you will love this ! It literally tastes like strawberry ice cream. My daughter had bacon, hashbrowns and a waffle as well. She cleaned her plate so quick. My husband and I came yesterday for the first time and it was phenomenal. We knew it had to be good when we came midday, at 2:30 pm and had to wait 35 minutes for a seat. He had the chicken & waffles and I had the croissant French toast. The batter for the French toast was cinnamon/sugar/vanilla and griddled so the outside was textured and inside was still soft. I stole some of the fresh strawberry butter from chicken & waffles. I'll ask for a side next time because it pairs perfectly with the French toast. We can't wait to return! read more

I have never been to a metro diner but this place had a nice patio and a menu that makes the little ones happy. Lots of grandparents and families here. Service was spectacular. This place was amazing! The ambiance is nice, with my mood being uplifted just by entering. It looks like a cute old time diner which is really nice. Our waiter was kind and attentive, checking in on us often. The food itself was delicious. I ordered the chicken tenders combo with fries and definitely enjoyed my meal. Rating based on: consistency, cleanliness, quality, taste, and presentation Listen up, fam - I really wanted Metro Diner to be giving what it was supposed to give, but this place had me more disappointed than finding out your favorite Netflix show got canceled. Let's start with the fried chicken that looked absolutely bussin' in the pics but served up major disappointment IRL. No cap, this chicken was drier than a TikTok trend from 2020 - literally giving "been sitting under the heat lamp for six days" vibes. The sides? Let's talk about that mac & cheese that was straight-up disrespectful - tasting like it came from a blue box you'd find at the dollar store. And those "mashed potatoes"? More fake than those Instagram filters, fr fr. The waffles were mid at best, but the French toast croissant? Bestie, it tasted like someone used it to mop the floor and then decided to serve it anyway. That's not the slay they think it is. Now, I'm not usually the type to leave negative reviews (check my history), but I can't let other people get caught in the trap of those catfish menu pictures. And before you say "maybe it was just an off day" - nah, fam. When food tastes this dated and the ingredients are this cheap, it's giving red flags. I couldn't even finish my French toast, and that's saying something because ya Boy usually clears his plate. This experience had me more stressed than trying to get Nate Bargatze tickets. The only thing remotely decent was the ambience, but we're not here for the vibes - we're here to eat! And this ain't it, chief. My cousin and I decided to have lunch at Metro Diner on a Thursday afternoon. We arrived around 2pm and were seated right away. There was a decent crowd for the time of day, but still plenty of tables open. We were seated at one of the last booths. Metro Diner is a family friendly restaurant with plenty of tables and booths. There's also outdoor seating. It's in a shopping center, so there's plenty of parking. Melissa was our server and she was wonderful. Great with suggestions and her take on menu items we asked about. We finally ordered after going back and forth about what we wanted. My cousin ordered the fish & chips and subbed the coleslaw for a side Caesar salad. I ordered the Bissell breakfast and upgraded to the carrot cake pancakes. I enjoyed every bite of my meal and my cousin did too. Everything was so fresh and delicious.
