The Metro Diner is always busy, so I did expect a little bit of a wait. I was told 20-25 minutes and waited that long outside. Then, I moved inside to see what the delay was, and the host tried to seat me at the counter. Really? I'd been waiting 30 minutes, and you won't seat me at the empty table. So I declined and said I'd wait for my table. I never got a notice on my phone either, so what was the point of that system if you need to be inside the small waiting area to be called? I could see the open table, but I was not seated for another ten minutes. They didn't want me at the big table. Then it was interesting to watch all the staff walk by and ask who had my table. How do they not know which tables each person has? Someone eventually came by, asked if I'd been helped, and took my drink and food orders, since I'd been waiting quite a while. I ordered a half-and-half tea. I'm not sure she knew what that was, as she kept saying "unsweet". The first tea was half-and-half, but the refill was unsweetened. I went with the chicken pot pie, as that is what caught my eye. I expected a delicious dish, but what I received was disappointing. The ratio of the chicken, gravy and veggies was way off. I'd say there was enough low-quality processed chicken for three to four people, a little gravy and even less veggies. I had a bowl of processed chicken cubes with a splash of sauce, not what I had in mind. I usually skip the pastry part, but I ate that as I needed something other than chicken. I left some of the chicken in the dish. The waitress didn't even offer me a to-go box. It was that bad that I wouldn't eat it anyway. My check was brought out soon after I got my food. I don't understand the rush, but bringing the check early won't get me out any faster and lowers your tip. This was just a really bad experience, and I don't see myself returning. Went on a Saturday morning and because I always know there's a wait, I attempted to be placed on the waitlist prior to arriving but it didn't work. I wasn't happy about that. Once we arrived and saw so many people sitting I knew it would be at least a 20 minute wait. We went to check in and more people were inside waiting, since it was hot we opted to eat inside and that was a 30min wait. Once we were seated we were greeted within 5 minutes. We ordered the chicken and waffles and protein breakfast that comes with choice of two meats and eggs cooked to your preference and a side of toast. My friend enjoyed the chicken and waffles, she asked for the sauce on the side, and it arrived with no sauce, simple fix the server went and retrieved. She was happy she got the sauce on the side, she didn't care for it. My eggs and turkey sausage and Canadian bacon was good, the toast was burnt on one side and they tried to conceal it by turning it over, like I wouldn't see it. I would go back, only if I'm able to get on waitlist prior to visit. There isn't much in the strip mall to walk around and see for 30mins. read more

This is a medium size spot on a corner of a stop style shopping center. They have inside seating with a small patio seating. There is always a wait so plan for that. The service is good and they are polite. Today I had chicken and waffles. The waffles were nice and fluffy. It comes with a strawberry butter and it tastes like strawberry ice cream to me, but of courses it just butter. It also comes with "spicy syrup". It's syrup with hot sauce in it. It good with the chicken but I don't want it over my waffles. The chicken was fried a little too hard for me and it wasn't hot. It also could use a little more seasoning. You get a whole half chicken in pieces. I also got scramble eggs with American cheese. These were very yummy. The mimosa I got with pineapple juice instead of Orange and it too was yummy. Y'all, why has it been so long since I've eaten here? I've been wanting fried chicken (yeah, I could cook it, but so much work), and then my daughter made herself a waffle the other night...........so I HAD to go. We got there around noon, and it was popping. I mean, it's a Wednesday and very busy, but no wait. We each got the chicken and waffles. My daughter had asked if they would give her regular butter, since she's not a fan of strawberries.............but she enjoyed the strawberry butter very much. I'm sure we could have split it, but nope, we each got it. Half a chicken, cut into the individual pieces, and that huge, fluffy, flavorful waffle with that nice scoop of strawberry butter. We brought our limited leftovers home, yes, we mostly ate our food. For a place with a pretty extensive, but not huge, menu, it is good. The chicken and waffles though are awesome. The manager is super nice and one time I ordered chocolate cake and they didn't have it and he called me to make sure that I came when the truck came and I got that free piece of chocolate cake for my birthday. The host Dom i believe is his name initially he said a table of 6 would be an hour wait time on a busy Saturday. Then I asked about spilting the tables 3 and 3 to which he accommodated easily. Then when we saw where we were seating & that there was some empty tables after speaking to him he easily worked it out so all 6 of us can sit together. His service was above & beyond. Now the waitress brooklyn took care of all of us Iike she was servicing family at home. She was excellent, attentive and a reason we will come back to eat there. Metro Diner is extremely popular. You have to be brave to gone here on a weekend as the wait can exceed an hour. We decided to wait it out one day after a previously failed attempt. The menu is large and varied. I wanted both fried chicken and traditional breakfast food and they were able to accommodate both. We had just rolled into town after our road trip and were ready for brunch. I researched Metro Diner having a few locations, all with great reviews, so it seemed like a best bet first stop. We checked in around 2 PM and the place was busy. We chose outdoor seating and even though it was warm, it wasn't that Miami heat, so we were perfectly happy enjoying the outside. It also got us seated a little quicker. We had some time to look at the menu while waiting and ended up ordering the chicken and waffles, meat lovers scramble bowl, the Bissell Breakfast, and the biscuits and sausage gravy with eggs and hash browns. Our food came out pretty quickly and maybe, just maybe, it was the long ride talking, but this foodie family likes to taste each other's dishes and we all agreed everything hit. My chicken and waffles came with a strawberry butter. Yep, that was hitting. The cheesy grits with the Bissell Breakfast, hitting. The gravy on the biscuits, also hitting. Metro Diner is a great comfort food establishment. I have been to this restaurant on Falls of Neuse Road in Raleigh and the one in Venice, FL. We were looking for a restaurant on Sunday evening. Metro Diner came to mind. The restaurant is at the end of a strip mall in the Sutton Square neighborhood. It has tables, booths and a counter. A 1950/1960's nostalgia decor with outside seating. The service was very good. And the food, delicious. I had shrimp and grits. It was just the right amount of eclectic tastes. My daughter had the salmon with mashed potatoes and broccoli. The staff is very friendly and very accommodating and the ambiance has like a 1950s or 1960s vibe to it. I ordered the traditional eggs Benedict with hash browns. I'm always looking for a good eggs benedict. The egg and the ham were cooked perfectly the English muffin was cold and could not eat much of the hash browns because they were too greasy. My son ordered the eggs Benedict with chicken he had home fries that were deep fried. The chicken was cooked well the eggs were cooked while the Hollandaise sauce was good the English muffin was cold but the saving grace of that dish was the deep fried home fries they were very good. Friendly diner with a great menu and variety of options. We were visiting family from out of town and they were able to accommodate our group of 8 with one baby when someone called ahead. The menu has the traditional breakfast items featuring a few with a spin like eggs Benedict with fried chicken or avocado egg bowls. I got the avocado toast that didn't break the bank with an addition of 2 poached eggs and feta cheese. The servicing size was just right! Onion rings were good - I'd like it better if the batter is less thick. Boneless chicken wings - we picked buffalo flavor so yummy , wanna try other flavors. Ribs - hubby had the full rack - very good and he needed my son's help to finish. Cheese burger - my son ate the whole thing Shrimp n grits - I loved it. It was a bit rich but not overpowering and comparing to other places - there are more ingredients - sausage pieces, bacon pieces , onion and peppers. Not regretting a small setback to my diet. Wanted to try chicken and waffles which was highly recommended on yelp but the calories count was a bit high - maybe after I reach my weight goals. I tried Metro Diner for a weekday lunch when I was in the area for an appointment. There was a line waiting for a table, but they were able to seat me at the counter with no wait. My Tangy Chicken Bowl was good. It came with a very large serving of lightly fried chicken, clearly just out of the fryer, that had been lightly tossed in sauce. The cook clearly showed some finesse with the chicken as it was a notch above what I expected. The rice was OK, but not exceptional. If there was a weak point to my meal, it was the service. For some reason the server was surprised that I needed silverware to eat my meal. But that is nitpicking what is otherwise a positive experience. This is a very busy restaurant, but it didn't really feel like a diner. Sitting at the counter, I got to watch the kitchen crew deal with a large numbers of orders very efficiently. We ordered for delivery w days ago, as per my usual I ordered the shrimp and grits but it was more like grit soup and a hint of shrimp, terrible. Metro Diner please do better! I was seated and no one ever came over for about 15 minutes, I was reading so I really want paying attention. I flagged down the host and he got someone over about 6 minutes later. I ordered the Southwest Breakfast bowl with a fried egg. Of course it comes out with scrambled and they wanted me to move the eggs to the side and just bring me a scrambled egg to place on top. I had to ASK for the entire bowl to be re-made because of how the toppings are layered especially with the salsa and sour cream. The bowl was a 2 out of 10, I won't be ordering again and might have to find another diner to frequent. The service was horrible. There was a decent crowd for the time of day, but still plenty of tables open. We were seated at one of the last booths. Metro Diner is a family friendly restaurant with plenty of tables and booths. There's also outdoor seating. It's in a shopping center, so there's plenty of parking. Melissa was our server and she was wonderful. Great with suggestions and her take on menu items we asked about. We finally ordered after going back and forth about what we wanted. My cousin ordered the fish & chips and subbed the coleslaw for a side Caesar salad. I ordered the Bissell breakfast and upgraded to the carrot cake pancakes. I enjoyed every bite of my meal and my cousin did too. Everything was so fresh and delicious.
