I enjoyed a solo dinner here on a hot summer day during a work trip. The place is walkable from the NC State University main campus and I enjoyed the food, the service, and the very functional air-conditioning. Along with good old fashioned Southern food, you also get the warm Southern hospitality here. I was constantly checked on, but also given my space and time (I'm a pretty slow eater). I was a little disappointed to not see any fried fish or shrimp on the menu, but the fried chicken was really good - I highly recommend the sriracha honey glaze. The brussels sprouts was unfortunately a little too salty, dry and overcooked. Otherwise, it was a very good meal. The strawberry lemonade was also perfect for a hot and humid summer day. I'd like to add that prices seemed very reasonable compared to other places in Raleigh I visited and they had a number of ongoing deals that seemed very attractive. read more

Tupelo Honey -- A Different Experience This Time We decided to revisit Tupelo Honey during our trip through North Carolina because we had such a great experience the first time we visited. Our first visit was for breakfast/brunch, and we really enjoyed it, so this time we decided to stop in for a late lunch. We originally came looking for chicken wings, but we were told they had recently changed the menu and no longer offered them. So, we decided to try some other things. We started with the fried green tomatoes, which were served over polenta with a reddish sauce drizzled around them. The tomatoes were fried nice and firm--they didn't fall apart and held their texture well. I enjoyed the appetizer. For our entrees, we tried several things: bourbon meatloaf, breakfast potatoes, fried chicken, fried okra, roasted Brussels sprouts, and grilled harvest chicken. The food portions were generous, and everything was well seasoned. However, this meal was more of a "just okay" experience for us. The bourbon meatloaf was okay, although you definitely have to be in the mood for meatloaf. The breakfast potatoes, fried okra, Brussels sprouts, mac and cheese, green beans, and grilled harvest chicken were all decent but didn't really stand out. The fried chicken was very well seasoned--perhaps a little too well seasoned for my taste, as it leaned toward salty. Our drinks were good, and I still enjoyed the atmosphere. Our waitress was also friendly and attentive, which helped make the experience pleasant. Overall, this visit didn't quite live up to our first experience. My husband was especially disappointed. That said, I wouldn't completely rule Tupelo Honey out. The location is in a very nice, upscale area--one of those shopping districts where, if you see a Whole Foods nearby, you know the neighborhood is going to be polished, safe, and easy to navigate. Parking was simple in a lot across the street, and since I had a reservation, I was seated quickly on the patio, which was lovely and comfortable. For starters, I ordered the "biscuits for a cause," which is a nice touch knowing the proceeds support employee relief and development funds. They were warm and classic Southern biscuits--exactly what you'd expect. For my entrée, I went with the honey-dusted fried chicken (dark meat), a true Southern staple. It was well prepared, flavorful, and satisfying, especially if you're in the mood for something hearty and traditional. I also tried a cocktail called "The Debutante," which was pleasant and refreshing, and finished the meal with the butter pecan cheesecake for dessert. Overall, the meal was good--solid, reliable Southern comfort food--but if I'm being completely honest, it wasn't particularly memorable for me. I was traveling for work and dining on a per diem, so it checked the box for a dependable dinner in a convenient location. As a larger regional chain, it feels a bit like a rite of passage when you're spending time in the Southeast--something you try once to understand the landscape. This was our first time here and really enjoyed our visit. Nice variety of food on the menu. We were given a complimentary plate of warm biscuits with honey. This spot was really high on my list to visit during a recent trip to Raleigh, and after a few family members co-signing how great it is, we made it a point to stop by before heading to the airport. I'm disappointed to say that, at least in our experience, it was decent but didn't merit the rave review. We made a reservation for noon on Saturday, which I'm grateful we did since there were tons of people waiting when we arrived. We were seated promptly in a comfortable booth and our waitress was welcoming in getting us settled with menus, water and giving us time to review our options (and giggle at the "Bless Your Heart" glasses). The vibes were lively with a full dining room, great decor, and so many seating options. The menu lineup was plentiful - so many amazing options to choose from! We selected Sweet Potato Pancakes, Smothered Biscuit Sandwich, and their famous Fried Chicken with honey dust. Based on the excitement surrounding this restaurant, I can't tell if our expectations were too high, or if it was an off day - but we all agreed that everything was just ok. The pancakes were flavorful and fluffy but were served without the spiced pecans (we had to remind them); the biscuit sandwich was smothered in milk gravy which was too far too salty for me, so I tried to remove what I could; the famous chicken was disappointing - I couldn't even taste the "honey dusting" and it just tasted like regular fried chicken. My favorite item was the crispy Brussels which were seasoned and cooked perfectly - I enjoyed savoring each one! You always run the risk when visiting a raved-about spot, everyone has their own preferences. We're glad we stopped to try it and maybe we'll give it another shot next time. read more

We ordered pecan pancakes (with sides), and fried chicken - with Mac and cheese (and for an up charge) collard greens. We also joined the "Tupelo Honey Club" to warrant free biscuits. Fried chicken - my palate would appreciate less of the sweet element (most likely powered honey). I'll order without moving forward. While we loved the collards, we found how the greens and meats were chopped not the greatest. With that being said. I'm definitely being nitpicking, as we'd definitely order again. The pancakes were on the tougher side. Miss us with the sausage- we exchanged for bacon. Yelp helped us navigate parking. Overall the food quality and service was very good. Our biggest complaint would be food temperature! I like my food very hot! I'd definitely dine here again and this is definitely a fan favorite based on patrons. What a wonderful spot! We came here for a birthday on a Saturday night, it wasn't too packed and the interior was very clean and nice. The food was AMAZING! We started with the Brussel sprouts, they were some of the best I've had in a while. Tender and delicious. For our mains we got the surf and turf, and the Asheville hot chicken and waffles. The steak and shrimp were the best my boyfriend has ever had in a restaurant. The shrimp is seasoned perfectly and the steak was tender and delicious. Went to Tupelo Honey after the city of oaks race this past weekend. (Can't emphasize enough to make a reservation on days like this.) We were actually sat a few minutes early, which is rare. Once we got to the table, we ended up waiting after 10 minutes. I was a bit concerned and started to look around after 15 minutes of no one coming to our table to greet us. I went over to a gentleman and say hey we've been here for 15 minutes. Nobody's treated us. I know you guys are busy but you know not sure how much longer we should wait. He said no problem. I'll get your server. We waited another five minutes and then decided to just leave at 1:05. We were seated right away and our food came within 5-7 minutes of ordering. Talk about fast! To start, we ordered the biscuits for a cause. They were fluffy and came with the most delicious jam. My boyfriend had the classic chicken and waffles and enjoyed. I had the Cobb salad and added grilled chicken. It was good, but almost fell over seeing that it was about $7 to add grilled chicken! Wow! My boyfriend is a vet so we enjoyed dining here on Veterans Day with a 10% discount and a free banana pudding dessert. I love the $20 off $40 during my birthday! I've always been a big fan of TH, but this was my first time at the Raleigh location. Parking is not easy to find, I had to park down the road in the BOA lot on a Tuesday afternoon. The restaurant was kept quite cold on a cloudy day around 80 degrees. I took a seat at the empty bar and the bartender was a rather friendly dude. He did a great job keeping my beverage glasses filled without me even asking. I ordered the steak and eggs. 8 ounces of sliced beef topped with a little aioli along with some fried potatoes and two eggs. I asked for the steak medium rare and the eggs over medium, and both were cooked as I asked them. Very nice taste to the steak too, well seasoned and a nice beefy flavor. I didn't love the potatoes so much, some were bigger than others so they were cooked to different levels. For the road, I got a 3 egg omelet with bacon, cheddar, and salsa verde. Great flavor, the only thing that was weird was the bacon was one strip. I would have chopped the bacon up so I could have bites of it throughout. read more

Absolutely fantastic- I was in town this weekend for Dreamville and my bestfriend and I stopped here for happy hour and some food. Let's start with our server, Hannah. The sweetest peach to ever exist. She was so personable and knowledgeable and we loved every recommendation she gave us. We got the Brussels sprouts and fried pickles to start. I am not lying when I say I have been thinking about those Brussels sprouts since we left the restaurant Friday night (and today is Monday lol). I don't know how else to explain them besides absolutely fantastic. Truly the best Brussels sprouts I've ever had in my life. The fried pickles were also super yum! They were a lot thinner than I anticipated so gave more of a fried pickle "chip" vibe but that was okay because they have the best crunch. We tried a few drinks- Peach don't kill my vibe, so fresh & so green green, and I THINK the citrus got real. But it was purple and delicious haha. The so fresh and so green green was just that- so fresh! It reminds me of a drink I had on a carnival cruise a few years back that used fresh cucumber. For entrees we both got the shrimp & chicken gumbo. I will say the flavor here seemed a bit one note to me. Don't get me wrong, it WAS good but, for gumbo I expected some deep flavors that bounced off my tongue and I just didn't get that. Still delicious either way but I wanted a bit more from the gumbo personally. My bestfriend thought it was absolutely fantastic. All that to say: this was an absolutely fantastic experience (and part had to do with Hannah being so amazing!). I just found out there's a location in Virginia not too far from me. I had a good experience and my did was fresh and hot and my waffle was cooked perfectly. But half of the ppl I was with food wasn't hot we were a party of 6 on a Sunday around 2. We were seated almost 30 min after our reservation but we all knew what we wanted when we sat down. Some of our food came out fresh and hot and others didn't. We couldn't complain because we were in town for a festival and had to leave. Our server was nice and the service seemed fast. I did notice that the other employees did not want to be helpful we asked for sipped sauces and syrup to a waiter that brought our food out and he said that we needed to ask our waiter even though he was still bringing our food. read more
