When you approach the street your senses are overwhelmed by the delicious smell of freshly baked bread and pastries. We knew we were close when we inhaled the good bread smells. We came in on a Saturday around 11:30am so a lot of the pastries were already sold out, but we snagged an everything croissant and chocolate croissant for breakfast. Both were well crafted, flakey, and delicious. We loved making a trip here and would absolutely come back earlier next time!

I found this coffee shop and bakery on TikTok and had to check it out since everyone was raving about it. The line was out the door when I got there, which felt like a good sign. Service for the pastry was super fast, but I waited about five minutes for my coffee which was fine. The coffee itself was really good, but the pastry I grabbed was way too salty for me. I'm guessing I just didn't pick the right one because this place is clearly popular, so next time I might need someone to point me in the right direction on what pastry is worth trying. Overall, I'd definitely come back for the coffee, but I'm still figuring out the bakery side of things.

A trip to Raleigh feels incomplete without a trip to Boulted Bread! The morning buns have a crunch, caramelized exterior with a soft interior flavored with cinnamon. It is easy to order, staff is friendly, and the pastries are a great breakfast treat or afternoon snack. The Dorthy Dix park is also nearby.

Wow. I've had a lot of different bread in my life but these are freshest and tastiest one I've had. It's probably better than Republique in LA. The staff was very nice and the place just smell of blissful. There's plenty of seating inside. I'd definitely comeback and recommend everyone to come and try them! All the bread I had were delicious.

Really enjoyed Boulted bread one of the best ham and cheese croissants. The egg tart like pastry was very good loved the light citrus flavor. In general I was really impressed by the bread. Was also impressed by the mill and seeing the croissant lamination machine putting in work! If I had one issue it was the service. It was our first time there it just felt a bit rushed and there wasn't much help. Just a silent person watching us waiting for us to tell them what we want. A simple "how are you doing, please let me know if you have any questions". The space was perfectly fine. The highlight of the space was definitely the visual of the bakers baking.

They have the largest, most flaky croissants. I came towards the end of the day and they still had a few left.

Been seeing the reviews so I had to come try for myself. I went on a Sunday after church to get some breakfast and do some work. It wasn't crowded but business was steady. Many of the items were sold out and I was told you have to come early. ( It was Bou 1:30 pm). First. You can smell the bread in the parking lot across the street - delightful. I had to choose from the limited leftovers so I got a ginger cookie, chocolate croissant and a new item which was like bacon and cheese in a muffin. The cookie was a bit firm. A little heat and softness would have made it better. The croissant was top tier. Flaky and delicious. The muffin thing was edible but not delicious. Heating it would have made it 1000 percent better. I didn't finish it so I took it home and heated it up and put jelly on it. It tasted better but I probably won't get it again. I also ordered a salted caramel ______ latte (it was another word that I forgot. It was amazing. Good coffee flavors and well balanced. The staff set helpful and amazing. Medium seating inside no outside seating that I could see. Clean restrooms. I will be back earlier to try some of the other items.

Absolutely loved the croissant here! The croissant had the layers and was crisp to perfection! Eating it fresh was delicious and even saving some for later it was still crispy! I went to a few bakeries while visiting and this is made the biggest impression! I would definitely recommend this bakery!

Pre Raleigh St. Patrick's Day Parade breakfast tradition. Caesar croissant. Definitely different

Every year when we go to the parade we stop here to get some treats. I bought way more than the two of us could eat. Fun sharing our goodies while we waited.

All the baked goods we've tried were excellent. Their coffee was really good too. Parking isn't that good. Not much they can do about that.

Any vegan pastries?

Alas, no. Thanks for asking. Their bialys are vegan, but they are savory and chewy, not sweet and tender. I hope someday they expand to vegan pastries. If anyone thinks this can't be done amazingly well, check out the Bklyn Bakery in Durham.

Minimalist but chic. Clean. Not too loud or noisy. You can get service at your table. Everyone was nice. It's not totally like a traditional waitstaff, as they don't come by as often, but still helpful and around when I needed something. The cocktails were good - I had the honey bourbon smash. It was well made. So much so I had two! For food, these are shareable small plates. Morning truly felt like a meal. The food came out fast and was hot/fresh. I had the crab claws, crispy shrimp and dumplings. The crab claws were delicious. Lots of them too. Served with bread I didn't use. The crispy shrimp were nice large shrimp and a spicy sauce with rice. I ended up using the rice with the crab claw sauce. And the dumplings were ok but I didn't eat many of them. They were my least favorite. I would come back to enjoy coffee and breakfast, but doubt I come back for dinner.

I recently released my book Purple Rose: The Stars Carry Her Name -- Letters from Me to Her, a collection written for a woman I love living in Raleigh, and I was able to write some of those love letters and poems right here in this lovely café. Lucky Tree regularly hosts open mic nights for musicians and poetry-focused events, and the owners are deeply involved in the local arts scene. Through these events, I've met artists, authors, and incredible people--and I've even shared my own work from my above mentioned book here. Overall, this is a truly unique and beautiful shop. The food is always fresh, the staff is vibrant, polite, and genuinely helpful, and the atmosphere shifts naturally from lively to quiet and relaxing depending on the events taking place. I loved the cheese on top! I was not a huge fan of the flavor the almond flour gave them but it was not overpowering. I would probably get them again! They had a lot of options as far as specialty lattes but I am glad I went with the Vanilla Maple. I was worried that the maple flavor would be too much but it complimented the vanilla well. I could see myself coming by and sitting down for a quick brunch, meeting up with friends, or staying for a work session.

My partner got the iced version--which was somehow even better than the warm version. I don't like my coffee drinks too sweet, and they struck exactly the right balance. It tasted like there was real strawberry (and not just a super-sweet syrup). Unlike many coffee shops, they gave us a number to bring to our table, so we didn't need to stand around and wait for our coffee to be ready. Instead, they brought it to our table for us. This was such a nice touch! There's a good amount of seating inside, but we sat outside since it was such a nice day. Unfortunately, this is probably because the chairs were the equivalent of sitting on a guitar pick. The rest of the decor similarly resembled a mid-century modern insane asylum. All this is child's play compared to the drinks. I was hoping they would redeem the experience. I was rooting for you, iris coffee lab. The matcha left me wanting more. I couldn't taste even a whisper of matcha flavoring, and the price was laughable for a glass of green milk. When my flat white arrived, I felt that twinkle return to my eye. Sadly, about 3 sips later, as I neared the end of my beverage I was shocked to discover a texture component I was not expecting. After a lot of contemplation, I have decided I am not a fan of coffee grounds swirling around my mouth. The customers are hip and trendy, the employees exceedingly friendly and speedy, the drinks bespoke and innovative, but I think we need to cut out the frills and go back to the basics. Why play 3D chess when you've yet to master tic tac toe? I think the experience was net neutral, but for how steep the pricing is, I feel it's my duty to let the world know what they're getting into.

I'm a big fan of lighter-roasted, funky, expressive coffees, and Black & White absolutely delivers. Their roasting style leans into vibrant, fruit-forward profiles, and they do it with confidence. The downtown Raleigh location is fantastic too. It's right in the middle of everything, making it a great stop for a date night, meeting up with friends, or just dropping in for a quick but exceptional cup. Their seasonal menu was small but mighty -- just a couple of options -- but the kind where every drink looks so good you wish they'd never rotate them off the menu. I started with the orange cardamom flat white, and it was perfect in every way. Beautifully presented and incredibly balanced. The espresso, milk, orange, and cardamom all complemented each other without any one flavor taking over. It was nuanced, aromatic, and just a joy to drink. For my second drink, I ordered a Rodrigo Sanchez pour-over, a co-fermented Colombian coffee labeled with passion fruit notes. It was everything I want from a pour-over -- bright, juicy, and expressive, with the kind of sweet stone fruit and berry notes that make light-roasted coffee so exciting. Black & White continues to prove why they're one of the most respected specialty roasters around. If you love adventurous coffee with huge flavor and careful execution, this place is an absolute must-visit.
