I was really looking forward to this place and I have to say their croissants very pretty good and service was friendly and I would have given much higher rating but unfortunately now I have unusable loaf of Nordic rye that is like a brick. I have very sharp bread knife and even with that I am unable to cut slices. The taste seems something I would have purchased in the future too but since they aren't able to slice it in the store and I am not planning to buy electric bread cutter just for that bread I won't be visiting anymore. read more

Don't let the line scare you. It goes quickly. A few of us chose this spot for breakfast last week. We couldn't decide what we wanted so we selected several things and shared. Everything was amazing. Except the bread pudding thing. That would've been better warm. The eggyness of it was off putting. I also wish they had a larger variety of coffee drinks to choose from. The tables fill up quickly so people tend to hover waiting for patrons to finish and leave. So if you're ok with either vacating the premises right after you finish or having people give you the side eye for taking your time...that's a decision you'll need to make. Raleigh people tend to be very kind and patient so if you linger with your friends so be it. Definitely get the morning roll and the custard thing. Yum. read more

Met my sweet friend for coffee and ended in a wonderful conversation with strangers. This was my first time at the new location, conveniently located in the Boylan neighborhood, the parking is precarious with tight parking on a gravel lot but very close by. My friend suggested lattes and croissants and both were very delicious. There weren't a ton of tables so we waited a bit and noticed others waiting so we ended up sharing a table which was quite wonderful meeting new friends. Finally decided to check this place out after seeing all the hype! Came in on a Wednesday morning at 9:30 and it was super busy. There's a gravel/rock parking lot and street parking. I imagine it's really hard to find parking on the weekend, so if you have parking anxiety- be warned. I got the morning bun and an iced coffee, which were just okay. The morning bun was on the dry side and a little burned on top. I also took a ciabatta loaf home, which I've enjoyed. It has a crusty outside, and soft chewy inside. The place has aesthetic vibes and the staff were super friendly, I can see the appeal. I will likely return and try different items. read more

After a nine-year run on South Street in downtown Raleigh, N.C. award-winning Boulted Bread has moved into a larger warehouse space just around the corner at 328 Dupont Circle in the Boylan Heights neighborhood. They open today, May 19. I got a chance to visit earlier this week, and it is absolutely gorgeous - with an open, airy feel with plenty of indoor seating to take in all their yumminess! My husband and I stopped by Boulted Bread on our way out of Raleigh. We were unsure of the place as it was behind a graffitied building and a neglected space, but it was so cute inside! It looks like everything is locally grown/made. My husband ordered a ham/cheese croissant with a mocha latte & I had a strawberry jam danish with an orange cream iced coffee. The food and drinks were immaculate- the quality of the food is definitely reflected in the price. I wish we had a Boulted Bread in Arizona because it was that good! I've been to Boulted Bread twice now. Both times were excellent. I had the Blueberry Bread Pudding the first time and it was delicious. Today I tried the Everything Croissant, which has a cream cheese filling. The croissant was flaky, buttery, soft and chewy. There was also a perfect amount of the cream cheese filling to balance the saltiness of the croissant toppings. You would be hard pressed to find better croissants. And as a bonus, their black coffee is very well made. There is limited seating inside which is somewhat cramped, but that won't deter me from returning. I will be back many times. read more

Had been wanting to try Boulted Bread for a while. On this beautiful Saturday afternoon we were leaving an event at the Convention Center and decided to walk to Boulted and see what was up. It was close to 3 PM and I was seriously afraid they may be closed or sold out. It was quite a trek but so worth it !! We got the last 2 morning buns. I know one was for sure a morning bun. The other one may have been something slightly different. In either case, they were delicious !! The flaky crust reminded me of a croissant. I'm kinda glad we don't live closer. I would probably be 10 lbs heavier. Next time we will come earlier when there is a bigger assortment of yummy treats. The pics may not look that appetizing but they WERE !!!! I've never been to their old location but this new location was nice and big and you're able to easily view all of their products and what they've made for that day. Don't let the line intimidate you, it moves very quickly! We came at peak breakfast hour on a Sunday morning and even though the line was out the door, it only took us about 15-20 minutes to get in to order. I'm a savory breakfast and croissant fan so I went for the Everything croissant, French Onion croissant and the Ham and Cheese. The employees are also incredibly friendly! Needless to say, everything was FANTASTIC. In my opinion, they make the best croissants in the Triangle. Fluffy, airy, buttery, flaky, all the good things. The Everything was sensational, stuffed with an herb cream cheese mixture that is to die for. The ham and cheese is a classic and was my favorite, I wish I had gotten another. Stopped here while I was in North Carolina. They had recently just moved so it was still new. The place was large with a majority the space of the store used for the equipment. Not a bad thing, it's just the style of the place. I pick up some pastries which I didn't remember what they were but they were recommended by the worker. She was super nice and helpful with explaining what everything was and which was the most popular. Line moves quickly. Lots to choose from in the glass case. There's not a bakery near where I live so when I go out of town, I seek one out. I got the morning bun. This is a laminated, yeast pastry, sprinkled with sugar. The top edge is crispy and sweet, like a sweet crackling. Under that is the soft, buttery, almost ephemeral layers of sweet pastry. It can't be gulped. You have to take your time pulling it apart so you can enjoy all its many layers. Some said it was dry but I didn't think so at all.
