I went to bloom for an early dinner. I was not alone in finding this place a true coffee shop where nearly everyone had a laptop out, so I felt at home to work as well. The decor is nice. Minimalist but chic. Clean. Not too loud or noisy. You can get service at your table. Everyone was nice. It's not totally like a traditional waitstaff, as they don't come by as often, but still helpful and around when I needed something. The cocktails were good - I had the honey bourbon smash. It was well made. So much so I had two! For food, these are shareable small plates. Morning truly felt like a meal. The food came out fast and was hot/fresh. I had the crab claws, crispy shrimp and dumplings. The crab claws were delicious. Lots of them too. Served with bread I didn't use. The crispy shrimp were nice large shrimp and a spicy sauce with rice. I ended up using the rice with the crab claw sauce. And the dumplings were ok but I didn't eat many of them. Every Saturday, I choose a new coffee shop to experience. This Saturday I chose Heirloom due to being in the area, and it being on my list. We had just saw the Monks on their Walk for Peace and were freezing. I've walked past Heirloom several times over the years and I'm so glad I finally went in. Heirloom has a cozy vibe with lots of windows. Great place to work, meet up with a friend or friends, enjoy a nice cup of something. I ordered a banana bread latte...it was absolutely perfect. I also had the Ube donut, I can't describe the deliciousness, but it was perfect as well. The peppermint tea was just tea, but the presentation in the glass tea pot was perfect, with a matching glass mug. The service was good. Everyone was friendly and the young lady at the register was helpful when I asked for a suggestion. They also have a breakfast, lunch, brunch and dinner menus that look wonderful. read more

So I fell in love with Heirloom Brewshop. I stopped here for breakfast before my train ride out of Raleigh this morning. I was in the city for a work conference and would not have much free/downtime at all this week, but I had planned to check this place out before I left. I knew it was within walking distance of Union Station (so I could swing it in time for my train) and it had some interesting menu items from what I saw online. I ordered a large cold brew and a chicken rice porridge with a fried egg and chili oil. Quality cold brew - from the first sip. That congee was one of the best congees that I've had in a really long time. My first spoonful was full of flavor. The spring onions were fresh and added a perfect crunch. The yoke of the egg was just right, and the chili oil brought it to another level of delicious. When I got there, only a few people were seated at the tables, but in time the place filled up with customers and was bustling. There was a mix - lone remote workers on their laptops with caffeinated drinks next to them, couples and twosomes, a small group of five, a mother and her five year old. I can assume most are locals who live in the area and are regulars. And the people working at Heirloom were friendly, kind, and chatted it up with people. It feels like a nice community there and Heirloom is a hub (well, that's what I saw during my visit and saw as an interloper/outsider). Before I left, I also bought a few things to bring home as gifts for my husband and co-workers. They have an assortment of whole bean coffee bags, matcha tins, chocolates, and alcoholic drinks (I didn't get these but FYI they are sold there). Their inventory is well curated and from many from independent suppliers. I got a matcha tin for my husband, and coffee and chocolate bars for work. Yes, it was a bit pricey, but I figured it's a good way to support local businesses. I would stop by Heirloom every week if I were a local. I consider myself a pretty big eater and I ordered both the heirloom breakfast baguette sandwich which was a pleasant surprise but wasn't as filling as I would have liked. It's a reasonable amount of food with a little bit of kick from the chili crisp and a nice sweetness and creaminess from the kewpie mayo and the soft scrambled eggs inside. I didn't expect to like this as much as a did and ordered it at the barista's recommendation. He described it as a very huge sandwich and said it was really good. The Taiwanese fried chicken rice bowl was also a winner. The chicken was so perfectly fried and crispy while still being tender and juicy on the inside. I will say, it felt like it could have done with about 4 more popcorn chicken in there and more cabbage as well. I mean I get it. Things are expensive. Inflation and what have you. I recommend having it with the kewpie maybe and chili crisp. Apparently the sweet chili sauce is the most popular choice as well as the kewpie with chili crisp. Can't really go wrong with either. My friend ordered some sort of iced passion fruit tea type beverage and the pumpkin waffle. She said both were good and that she was stuffed afterwards. I ended up also ordering another Taiwanese fried chicken rice bowl to-go as well as the pork belly sandwich. Both were good but the pork belly is a bit too saucy for our taste. My husband found it to be more than enough food but maybe I was just especially hungry that day. I went to Heirloom for lunch today and I really love going during the day because it's so beautiful and the ambiance is great for working or catching up with a friend. I tried the pork belly rice bowl and it was delicious, I wish I had gotten more cabbage than rice just because it was a lot of rice and not a lot of veggies for me personally. The pork was sort of sweet but cooked so well. I also tried their seasonal mango sticky rice latte and it was tasty! A little on the sweeter side but great. If I could give 6 stars I would. Heirloom Brewshop in Raleigh is, without exaggeration, the most transformative food experience I've ever had. I've lived in multiple major cities, I travel constantly for work, and I eat everywhere... but nothing has hit like this. I would literally book a flight back to Raleigh from my home base in NYC just to eat here again. It's that serious. We came in town for the RLCS Rocket League Major (yes, esports lol) and found this spot while looking for something different and local. What we got was next-level food, insanely good hospitality, and honestly just a really special night that we'll never forget. What we ate: A cucumber salad that was bright, refreshing, and flavorful. Flatbread that was crispy, savory, and unlike anything I've had before. Egg noodles that were perfectly textured with a sauce I'm still dreaming about Draft beer with a great curated list of local and international options and deliciously effervescent sodas (we had the white peach yuzu!) And then... the chef (who was an absolute GEM of a human) brought us dessert on the house: vanilla bean ice cream over grated fresh strawberries, finished with a dash of olive oil and a sprinkle of fancy salt. It was one of the best desserts I've ever had- simple but so mind-blowingly good. Now let's talk about the people. The chef was one of the kindest, most passionate, down-to-earth people I've ever met in the food industry. The way he talked about food, about his kids, about Rocket League (after we explained what esports even was lol)... it was just infectious. You can feel his heart in the food, and taste his passion within every bite. And our server (a wonderful woman who I regret not catching the name of!) was just as lovely- so friendly, curious, and excited to hear about the tournament and our experience in Raleigh. Both of them made us feel so welcome, like we were regulars even though we were just passing through. Price-wise, it's on the higher end of affordable. Small plates in the $12-18 range, bigger mains $20-25, but honestly worth every single penny. Flavors are bold, comforting, inventive, and beautifully balanced- Laotian, Taiwanese, Japanese influences all showing up in ways that feel authentic but also creative. We had been meaning to visit for dinner missing Humble Pie and the chef joined forces with Heirloom. The space is beautiful and the food is just made to star in photos. We shared the Brussels sprouts which were crispy and sweet. I had the porridge which was divine. The crunchy onions on top were just the perfect finishing touch. My husband had the chicken. We stopped by this cute coffee shop for a pick me up. With a wide variety of teas and coffees to choose from, Heirloom hits the spot. I loved my hot "Xieng Khouang" Lao Fog Latte which was amazing and super tasty - it tastes like a sweet variant of an iced Thai tea, but in a steamed hot form. If I lived in Raleigh, I would come back just for this drink. I also tried the orchid oolong, which was less impressive. The shop also sells a variety of Asian snacks/condiments and tea/coffeeware which could be great gifts. Shoutout to the sole barista who worked on President's day, she was totally manning the shop herself and 100% was keeping that coffee shop afloat and running. We've been to Heirloom before for coffee/tea and mochi donuts (freaking delicious), but never for dinner! Then I discovered their dinner menu with delicious-sounding Asian inspired dishes and came running back to try them. We started out with small plates: crab claws and popcorn chicken. The crab claws were soaked and cooked in a salty, umami, buttery sauce and felt like a fun take on seafood chicken wings - There wasn't much meat in the claws, so we savored every bite we could get. The popcorn chicken had an incredibly crispy coating and was not greasy at all (which I really appreciate) - There was some warming spice in the chicken coating which took me by surprise, but not in a bad way! The waiter brought us a side of jeow som to dip the chicken in (in addition to the sweet chili sauce it came with), and I loved the spiciness and acidity this added when you dipped the chicken in it. For large plates, we ordered the Lao grilled chicken and crispy mapo tofu. The grilled chicken thighs were juicy and had great char flavor on the skin. The chicken drippings rice that came with the chicken was cooked to perfection and was the perfect addition to the chicken, along with the sriracha sauce it came with. The mapo tofu dish was also great - The mushrooms were crispy and the tofu was semi-crispy (the sauce took away some of its crispiness) and soaked in a delicious chili oil sauce, though I would have preferred a bit more spice here. The ambiance inside the restaurant is unmatched - I love the modern feel with the wooden paneling, greenery, and addition of sparkle lights against the back wall. The service was wonderful as well. Our server had great suggestions and descriptions of the food. I can't wait to come back here and try more of the dishes! Next time I will definitely save room for dessert read more

They had a pasta with aged parmesan that was perfection but unfortunately was a temporary menu item. The braised crab claws were ok but the flavor wasn't something I was in love with. Crispy shrimp was perfectly crunchy, the dipping sauce with it is SPICY! So be warned! I love that they offer both small and large plates. Service was quick and good was served hot.
