Eggs, spicy cheddar biscuit, avocado with pickled onions, and hot tea
    Jillian S.

I thought the rumors were too good to be true, but nope. Not only does A Place at The Table have an incredible mission, the food and service are also really good. We visited on a weekday morning for breakfast. Before 9 am there wasn't much of a line, but after 9 am it picks up. A welcoming volunteer greeted us at the door and introduced us to the concept. We could order at the counter and pay the suggested rate (~$10-12/meal), pay a reduced rate (at least $3), purchase a meal token to give away ($10), and/or make a donation. Another option is to volunteer for an hour for a free meal. We paid the suggested rate for breakfast (dine-in) and lunch (to-go). Cream and sugar for coffee is available near the counter. Everything else was brought to our table. All the volunteers we interacted with were incredibly friendly and efficient. They checked in with us to make sure we had everything we needed and removed empty plates as we finished. We all enjoyed each of the items ordered. I especially enjoyed the spicy cheddar biscuit paired with perfectly cooked eggs and avocado with pickled onions. The chicken salad sandwich was also really good. You get a decent portion of chicken salad and a side salad. I chose the pepper jelly vinaigrette for the salad and loved it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Restrooms: two restrooms are available. One was closed for cleaning and the other was occupied throughout our meal.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Parking: metered street parking available out front. Overall, we had a positive experience here and highly recommend this restaurant to others!

This place is awesome. The business idea is super meaningful and I hope everyone comes and support their mission. The chicken and waffle I got was delicious. The chicken was juicy, the waffle was well seasoned, and the sauce was incredible. I wish they'd given gave me the option to add more chicken for few more bucks. Overall I'd definitely comeback when I'm in Raleigh again! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is very spacious as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

All the 5 star reviews will tell you all you need to know. They offer healthy, delicious food and benefit a good cause. We were warmly welcomed by a volunteer who explained how they operate and recommended some options from the menu. We can't wait to come back next time we visit Raleigh!

This was my first time experiencing a café with a mission like this, and it left such a powerful impression. A Place At The Table operates on a pay-what-you-can model--you can pay the suggested price, pay less, or even donate more to help cover someone else's meal. You also have the option to volunteer in exchange for food, which adds another beautiful layer to the experience. [[HIGHLIGHT]]From the moment I walked in, the space felt warm and welcoming.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff greeted me with genuine smiles, and you could feel the kindness and care woven into the very fabric of the place. There's something truly special about being in an environment where everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances, is treated with dignity and love. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The setting is intimate, with seating options downstairs, upstairs, and even outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It has a cozy elegance, perfect for connecting with others or simply enjoying a peaceful moment.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered the Braswell Breakfast--simple, hearty, and absolutely delicious. This isn't just a place to eat--it's a place to feel seen, to give back, and to witness community in action. If you're in downtown Raleigh and want to enjoy a great meal while supporting an incredible cause, I highly recommend checking out A Place At The Table. It's more than a café--it's a reminder of what community should feel like. Until next time!

Everyone being very tolerant of how long it was taking to order.

4.5 stars. The food here is really good and FAST. The cooks are amazing and I watched them for a while as I was waiting in line to order (more on that below) The rate which they must have to prepare food for the amount of patrons is like superhero level. Came on a weekday around 1pm and there was no line. Wanted to take my husband back so brought him on a Saturday at 11 and there were about 18 people in line ahead of me. I figured we're already here, how long can it take for 18 people to order? Well, it wasn't great. Do not come here on a weekend if 1) you are hungry 2) you have young kids 3) you have somewhere to be.. we had all 3 of this lovely combination and let me tell you, it was definitely not fun. At one point someone announced the kitchen was on pause... umm, okay. I ended up standing in line to order for nearly 50 minutes. I understand this place is quite unique and absolutely love what they are doing in the community. But 50 minutes is a pretty absurd amount of time just to order. They had one person taking orders. I think the line would help move quicker if 2 people were taking orders. And of course some people can be so annoying, it's like you had 10-40 minutes to decide what to order yet once they finally arrive to the front and get their moment to order, they are still deciding..?? ‍ This place is really chaotic and one volunteer serving food seemed overwhelmed as she had to navigate thru the ordering line to deliver food on the other side. She started having some attitude with people in line, it's like, um it's not our fault. The food came out within maybe 5 minutes after ordering! I basically went to wash my hands and when I sat down the food was there. Props to how fast the food actually comes out. So minus half a star for how long it took to order and the staff seemingly having zero regard for anyone's time. But obviously many stars for how a place at the table serves the community and the food is fast, hot, delicious, and reasonably priced for all.

Build your own breakfast- 1/2 waffle, bacon, eggs; side of buttermilk biscuit

I arrived here around 12:35pm on a Sunday afternoon for brunch with my friend. It was very busy. There is a pay for parking lot across the street. I'd suggest downloading ParkMobile if you don't already. It was $5.95 for an hour. Once inside, there was a person by the door who explained the concept. Their mission is "A Place at the Table provided community and good food for all regardless of meals". Payment options: -Pay suggested price -Pay less than the suggested price ($3 or more for entree and a side/pastry/drink OR pay less than $3 for any side/pastry/drink) -Volunteer in the cafe for one hour for your meal -Pay it forward by buying a $10 place card to give to someone in the community or for someone who comes in an cannot afford meal We waited in line for 15 minutes prior to ordering. My friend and I both did the build you own breakfast. I got 1/2 buttermilk waffle, bacon, and eggs. I got bacon jam as my condiment. I also got a side of buttermilk biscuit. My friend the 1/2 buttermilk waffle, grits, and bacon. I paid the suggested price for the meal and left a tip (that is considered a donation to the cause). They have outside seating and an upstairs sitting area. We sat upstairs. There were 3 tables. The steps upstairs has writing that says "All are welcome". We received our food 5 mins later. The bacon was so crispy and delicious! The eggs were tasty too; I didn't have to add anything to them. My waffle was awesome, especially with the bacon jam and syrup. I added my remaining bacon jam to my biscuit and it was great. No complaints at all! I would most definitely return! I noticed so many volunteers! They were on it too! Tables didn't remain dirty long. They were also extremely friendly. I love the concept and I highly recommend this establishment!

So this is a very unique restaurant. A place at the table is a restaurant that anyone to eat even if you don't have any money. You have options, you can pay what you can, you can volunteer in service, you can pay more, or you can donate, or you can pay it forward. The food was very very good, the service was very good, everyone was friendly. What a special concept in the execution of all of it was amazing. Please go visit this place, it's exceptional and a grand idea.

    Huevos Rancheros, potato soup

First time here and was greeted so warmly. A volunteer explained how everything works and I picked the Huevos Rancheros, some potato soup and a lavender lemonade. I know, it's a weird combo, but I wanted to try multiple things. The food was phenomenal!! I felt like I was being transported to Mexico with delightful and authentic flavors. Potato soup Was also amazing.Love that it's - Food with a cause.

Ask the Community - A Place At The Table

When is breakfast served until on the weekend? When does it switch over to lunch?

I know during the week it's breakfast and lunch all day so I would not imagine it's any different on the weekend

Can I come here and work with my laptop?

I saw people working while I was having lunch. It gets a little crowded/loud, though so if you are able to tune that out it should be fine!

Is it okay to bring dogs if you're sitting outside?

If there are tables outside, yes.

Can you show me the menu?

There's a link on their website, it's posted at the top of their Yelp page. I'd post it here but it's actually a link to a PDF and it probably changes from time-to-time and it might not "age well" if they update it.

There's so many things on the menu that I still want to try. When we first got to the restaurant we were interested in sitting outside but the host told us the spot that would fit us wasn't available or in the section. However, she went out of her way to talk to her manager and they accommodated us. Off to a great start service wise! That great service continued throughout our meal. Our waiter was super attentive and everything was brought out really quickly. The restaurant itself is gorgeous, both inside and out. It's a very classy spot; very upscale mid-century. I had the stuffed French toast crepe with berries added (egg battered crepe dusted with a cinnamon spice blend, filled with cheesecake custard, topped with maple syrup and house-made whipped cream). Phenomenal. I'm still thinking about that crepe a few weeks later now...I also ordered the Strawberry Citrus Smash (tangerine ginger iced tea, strawberry syrup, lime juice, served iced). Also delicious and not overly sweet. Everything here is great. I highly recommend checking it out. My oneeeee issue is that they don't take reservations. I'm sorry but I don't want to wait around for over an hour to get a table for brunch on the weekend. It's really unfortunate because I've been here with friends before and we've had to leave to go to another restaurant because of such a long wait time. The only reason I was able to try this place after that was because I went during a weekday when family was in town visiting. Many of my friends have jobs that aren't very flexible and busy family lives, so the weekends are the best times to go; but at the same time they don't have a lot of time to spare to waiting. PRESS if you see this - I highly recommend that you reconsider your reservation policy, at least for the weekends!

A Truly Artisanal Bakery…read more I rarely leave reviews on yelp anymore, but this bakery is so impressive, it inspired me to type this down. I'm from the Bay Area and loved going to all kinds of bakery when I travel. I did not have much expectations when I came to Raleigh. I tried Paul and Jack and couple other bakeries, they were all good, but not impressive. The first thing I noticed was their Mill Room, and second I noticed that they have 100 score on hygiene. Not that I care about the score that much but still impressive. Then We got a bunch of pastries, the shortbread was the first one we tried and wow, it was so simple yet so flavorful, truly malted tasting shortbread, it has so much depth in taste. Then I had a had a ham and cheese croissant, it was on the salty side but I kept eating it when I'm not even hungry. The true winner though, is the plain croissant I got which traveled with me for 72 hours back home. I got it out of my bag, slightly flattened by all my stuff, I expect it to taste flat and meh. I put it in the oven for 6 minutes and it turned out to be the best croissant I've had. It was flaky, soft and soo flavorful. Now I cannot stop thinking about it. Lastly, I want to say that with so many pop ups, new bakeries coming up in different cities, often times we were chasing that unique flavors, that special toppings on croissants, but Boulted Bread stayed true to bread, and perfected the craft without focusing on "exotic" or "special" flavors. I truly respect this.

It is commonly stone-ground and available from local Kansas millers. 6. The star of the show was the Everything Croissant. Like the Everything Bagel but soft and buttery. Topped with all the sesame seeds and seasonings with a cream cheese interior. So good! I do plan on returning!
