I went at around 3pm on a Saturday to get some pastries for a friend's gathering and chose this spot due to the proximity to their place and also the reviews online. I am so glad I went! The pastries get freshly filled with filling upon your order, and they box it up so nicely! There are aeating benches for you to sit and wait for your order, which didn't take too long. I got 3 cannolis, 2 cream puffs, and 2 cookies (I got the last chocolate cookie of the day). Service was friendly and quick as well, only took about 10ish minutes! Everything tasted amazing! And best thing about them was that it was not too overly sweet! It was the perfect amount that makes me want to keep tasting more. So when I am, I always stop by. The pastries are the best I've ever had. I am a lobster tail junkie. Whenever I'm in NY or Philly, I seek out the best. I've been to several famous Italian bakeries in these cities and never found one as good as Utica Bakery in Apex. It's world class. Just look at the cannoli cream and pistachio cream stuffing those bad boys. Their savory foods are equally as impressive. This stuffed bread with meatballs and Parmesan was excellent and I love their tomato pie (not pictured), which I have had in the past. Everything here is outstanding! This place is a hidden gem in the middle of Apex. If you blink, you'll pass right their place. The only reason I learned of them was thru a friend. It seems to be that they have a word of mouth reputation, and that's a good thing. I ended up going and getting a Sausage and pepper roll. It's more of a loaf than a roll. It's definitely big and delicious. I got a black and white cookie. Typically they are a vanilla based cookie but this one was a chocolate base. It was unexpected and a great surprise. The sleeper of the items I got was the rum cake slice. I'm going to tell you that I think they put crack in it because I tried eating half and just kept wanting more. It was moist and velvety. This cake was deeee-licious! I will definitely have to come back and try more items. read more

This spot is a food truck bakery so definitely more of a to-go place, there are just a few chairs with string lights out front. They have a variety of European baked goods including cannolis, cream puffs, cookies, savory options and more. We ordered the Lobster tail with chocolate hazelnut cream which was massive, definitely would split between two people if not more if you're planning on trying other things on the menu! I had never heard of a lobster tail pastry before, but it was essentially two cones made of the most flaky and buttery croissants filled with cream and dusted with powdered sugar. Getting to the bottom of the croissant cone was like the amazing feeling of eating the end of a drumstick ice cream cone with chocolate. The croissant was perfect and stayed crispy even with all of the cream, though I probably wouldn't let it sit for too long in case it were to get soggy. I almost wished the ratio of croissant to cream was even higher because the croissant was so good (though the cream inside was quite delicious as well - overall sweet but not tooo sweet). We also snagged a couple of plain cannolis which had hints of lemon and were also delicious. Prices were reasonable and staff were friendly and took orders/prepared everything in a timely manner. Definitely a gem for Italian-European pastries and baked goods, and worth the drive to Apex. read more

I've been here several times since my original review and I've tried the Italian rum cake, chocolate chip walnut cookies, cheesecake, cannolis, lobster tail assorted Italian cookies and the eclairs. Everything we've tried has been beyond reproach! Service is top notch, everyone is so friendly and patient. Stopped by to pickup an after dinner treat and they were out of their famous lobster tails so we went with a slice of Rum Cake. It's like a strawberry shortcake but way better! The cake was absolutely amazing. The whipped cream frosting was the best I've ever had, then throw in that pudding like center with strawberries between rum soaked cake - YUM! We came to this bakery for a snack because the reviews looked too good to ignore. The location is a picturesque trailer on a side street. You can see many of the baked goods through a window and the staff is quick to get you your order. We ordered an almond creme croissant and a piece of chocolate zucchini bread. They threw in a day old pastry for free, which was very nice. The croissant tasted fresh and the pastry layers were defined, the almond topping wasn't too sweet. The zucchini bread was the perfect level of soft texture and the sweetness was just right with the chocolate chips. Plus the slice was massive. The day old pastry was a thick cookie-like dough filled with a blueberry jam and was awesome! Next time, we'd like to try more savory items, like a quiche, but overall a great place to get pastries. read more

I loved my first visit to Utica Bakery! We tried the flatbread, quiche, eclair and moon cookies. The quiche was truly phenomenal! We devoured every bite and couldn't believe how tasty it was. We were hoping to try the tomato pie or cheesecake but by the time we got there both were sold out. If you go plan to go early. They said it often sells out by noon but you can call ahead the night before or reserve one from Facebook. We'll definitely do this next time to try! read more

Damn, who knew this little tin shack could crank out some awesome Italian pastures! I ordered some zeppolle for St Joseph's Day and added on some other goodies. The zeppolle were like cream puffs on steroids, nothing like I recall when my dad would bring some home every January 19th. Amazing, more like a rich ricotta cannoli-like cream, could only manage half but oh so good. Will send the husband for some Easter treats next month. read more

Was really excited to try this place - I've heard such amazing things! And I haven't had good sfogliatelle since Italy. But y'all. This was terrible. Inedible. This is a very hard review for me because I WANT to love this place - like really really want to. I am from the Utica, NY area - my first real job was working in an Italian bakery there for a few years, and I grew up eating these kinds of amazing pastries & Italian goodies. The staff at Utica bakery has always been super friendly and they use quality ingredients. If I could give half stars, I would rate 3.5, but for these reasons, I bumped them from a 3 to a 4 stars. We have had tried almost everything (literally) they offer. I'll start with my favorites: 1. Halfmoon cookie - this is a really outstanding and Utica bakery makes one of my favorites I've ever had - that includes the original one from Hemstrought's bakery in Utica. Soft, moist & flavorful cake with fudgy chocolate frosting and light and creamy vanilla frosting that's not too sweet. 2. Chocolate chip cookie - this cookie is massive! It was loaded with chocolate chips and walnuts and had an excellent texture of soft and chewy inside with that tiny bit of crunch on the outside. 3. Stromboli - I've had a few different ones from them now including pepperoni, sausage & peppers, and rueben. All of them have a good amount of filing, are baked to perfection, and simply a tasty on the go food. I will offer a few hopefully constructive criticisms - a few times now the cookies I've purchased have tasted stale/old/dry. Also, I absolutely loved the Italian bread at first, but the last few times in 2021 I've purchased, it does not taste the same. I'm unsure if they changed their recipe or what, but something seems quite different. Lastly, would love more sauce added to the tomato pie and the shell to be cooked more for a ever so slightly crisp bottom/edge. The flavors are there, but the texture I find off. If I wasn't comparing my years and years of having a plethora of amazing Utica/Italian pastries, I would certainly have a different opinion. Utica bakery's offerings are good and definitely can fulfill a hometown craving for me from time to time. read more

AMAZING FOOD!!! Today was my first time going, and I ordered a bunch of different things. Lobster tail with cannoli cream (I got to sample all of the flavors but cannoli will always be my favorite), the cookies were all amazing. The tomato pie is amazing. Honestly everything was amazing. I didn't even leave yet before I decided to get one of each of the cookies after taking a bite out of the almond paste and cannoli cookie. They were so good I went right back out and got more!! I guess they're open Friday through Sunday and Sunday they have more savory items versus Friday and Saturday are more sweet options. I'll be back for sure. Everyone was so nice and helpful too. Great little bakery on wheels serving up Italian pastries and cookies! Given how hard it is to find Italian sweets, I am so thankful to have Utica Bakery available. While it's located a bit far away from me in Apex, I think it's worth a special trip. My first visit resulted in a large tomato pie (focaccia with crushed tomatoes, parmesan) along with a great lobster tail pastry filled with cannoli cream. Both are quite good and a deal for the price. So not only do you get good pastries, you don't have to over-pay at Utica Bakery. Yummy bakery that I just discovered in my neighborhood! I'm so late to the game but better later than never ;) the bakery is the cutest small little building in the middle of a block off the main road. I parked across the street at the church since I was just gonna be a minute to get the goods. I was there right when they opened (9 am) on a Saturday and was the first person there. The assortment looks soooo appetizing! They have standard classic NY Italian pastries as well as a rotating daily menu. I wanted to try a little bit of everting so I got the classic sfagitolle, lobster tail with pastry cream, the almond joy cookie, special almond croissant and a spinach roll. The spinach roll was bombbb! Great bread roll and amazing filling. I equally LOVED the almond joy cookie- so so so good. Tasted like a true almond joy cookie interpretation! The rest was excellent too I really can't complain. My sugar tooth was massively satisfied haha!
