This place is a hidden gem in the middle of Apex. If you blink, you'll pass right their place. The only reason I learned of them was thru a friend. It seems to be that they have a word of mouth reputation, and that's a good thing. I ended up going and getting a Sausage and pepper roll. It's more of a loaf than a roll. It's definitely big and delicious. I got a black and white cookie. Typically they are a vanilla based cookie but this one was a chocolate base. It was unexpected and a great surprise. The sleeper of the items I got was the rum cake slice. I'm going to tell you that I think they put crack in it because I tried eating half and just kept wanting more. It was moist and velvety. This cake was deeee-licious! I will definitely have to come back and try more items.
This spot is a food truck bakery so definitely more of a to-go place, there are just a few chairs with string lights out front. They have a variety of European baked goods including cannolis, cream puffs, cookies, savory options and more. We ordered the Lobster tail with chocolate hazelnut cream which was massive, definitely would split between two people if not more if you're planning on trying other things on the menu! I had never heard of a lobster tail pastry before, but it was essentially two cones made of the most flaky and buttery croissants filled with cream and dusted with powdered sugar. Getting to the bottom of the croissant cone was like the amazing feeling of eating the end of a drumstick ice cream cone with chocolate. The croissant was perfect and stayed crispy even with all of the cream, though I probably wouldn't let it sit for too long in case it were to get soggy. I almost wished the ratio of croissant to cream was even higher because the croissant was so good (though the cream inside was quite delicious as well - overall sweet but not tooo sweet). We also snagged a couple of plain cannolis which had hints of lemon and were also delicious. Prices were reasonable and staff were friendly and took orders/prepared everything in a timely manner. Definitely a gem for Italian-European pastries and baked goods, and worth the drive to Apex.
I've been here several times since my original review and I've tried the Italian rum cake, chocolate chip walnut cookies, cheesecake, cannolis, lobster tail assorted Italian cookies and the eclairs. Everything we've tried has been beyond reproach! Service is top notch, everyone is so friendly and patient. Another reviewer commented how it reminded them of the bakery in the Virgin River show and it does! I love the vibes. This is definitely my favorite bakery.
Cute little spot! Make sure to come early because this place is hopping! We got the cannoli and chocolate eclair. Then while waiting in line, the owner came and gave everyone samples of the tiramisu.
"Virgin River" right here in Apex Fabulous place and pastries. We ordered a variety. Rum cake is delicious. We have not ate the rum ba ba yet nor the lobster tail. Will update when we do. We arrived on a Sunday around 2pm. No one in line. Not sure which way the line supposed to go. Viewing window to the right of place to order, but pick up window is the right of the viewing window.
So happy that I found Utica a couple of years ago! Their pastures, cookies, cheesecakes, quiche, Italian bread, rum cake and so much more is authentic and delicious!! Their prices are great as well. Renee & Phil are so kind and love what they do. They also care about their customers. I've been in and out of the hospital the last 5 months and they would message me asking how I was doing.

We came to this bakery for a snack because the reviews looked too good to ignore. The location is a picturesque trailer on a side street. You can see many of the baked goods through a window and the staff is quick to get you your order. We ordered an almond creme croissant and a piece of chocolate zucchini bread. They threw in a day old pastry for free, which was very nice. The croissant tasted fresh and the pastry layers were defined, the almond topping wasn't too sweet. The zucchini bread was the perfect level of soft texture and the sweetness was just right with the chocolate chips. Plus the slice was massive. The day old pastry was a thick cookie-like dough filled with a blueberry jam and was awesome! Next time, we'd like to try more savory items, like a quiche, but overall a great place to get pastries.
All the buzz on every foodie page on Facebook is about Utica. I've even read about people driving hours to buy their delicious baked goods. Amazing! My spouse visited while I was recuperating from surgery so I just waited in the car. I guess you can't really see the items until after you order and purchase, which is kind of weird, but it's a trailer, not a store front. Hopefully with the following they have an actual brick and mortar won't be far off. Everything she purchased was delicious and incredibly HUGE! The eclairs that have a delicious chocolate frosting on top were stuffed full with custard and enormous. The almond croissants are so good I nearly screamed and again, massive! Nothing was less than very tasty. I understand the lines are getting longer all the time and I want to be at the head of it next time we visit!
The baked goods at Utica Bakery are delicious. I drove across town to give them a try after hearing about it recently. The bakery is just open three days a week and they do sell out of items. I ordered a chocolate eclair with custard (it was huge); meatball cookies and an assortment of cookies. Everything was so good that I am planning a return trip to try other items on the menu.

I've been wanting to try Utica Bakery for a while now and finally make the trip over last Saturday. The dessert trailer was easy to find and there were plenty of signs clearly marking where to turn if you weren't using your GPS. I'm from New England and am always on the hunt for some good Italian pastries which you can't seem to find much of in NC. Seriously, it is so hard to find a good cannoli! I liked how they displayed all their tasty treats behind glass so you could easily figure out what you wanted to order. My husband and I went for three of their stuffed rolls and a sampling of desserts. The pepperoni roll was my favorite and something I would definitely get again. The sausage and ham rolls were good, but for me pepperoni reigned supreme. On to the sweet treats! They unfortunately left one of my cookies out of the box, but the lemon drop cookie was awesome. Just what you would want in this classic Italian treat. I also thoroughly enjoyed the cannoli. It was definitely the closest to what I'm use to up North that I have been able to find in the South. I have literally been craving a lobster tail for years and their flaky delicious lobster tail layers did not disappoint. They have different fillings you can chose for the lobster tail. I asked what the traditional filling was (since that is what I was craving), turns out it is pastry cream mixed with whipped cream, I went that route! You could also get a chocolate hazelnut filling which also sounded delicious. My husband went with the cheesecake with blueberry compote. The cheesecake was good, but the amount of blueberry compote they include on the side was way too tiny. I know they have a different name for it here, but I wish they sold their part pizza in strips, not just by the half pan. I would have loved to try out a slice for lunch, but didn't need more than that. For those of you not from up North, party pizza is as the name implies a birthday party staple. It's pizza dough with sweetened tomato sauce and that's it. No melted cheese so it's perfect for a party since it doesn't rely on temperature. I look forward to heading out here again when I'm craving some tasty Italian baked goods! read more

Absolutely unbelievable pastries and breads. My family loved the stuffed rolls - especially the pepperoni but also the spinach Asiago. My favorite sweet was the tiramisu, and my husband's favorite was the cheesecake. My stepdaughters liked the sfogliatelle and lobster tail, and my stepson loved the cannoli. We will for sure be back! read more

Great place to stop by for a treat in an adorable location! The workers are incredible friendly, and made sure that we were happy with the product. I tried a cold brew and cream puff with chocolate hazelnut cream. The coffee was flavorful and I didn't need any flavor or cream added (even though there are lots of options). The cream puff was huge and delicious! I will definitely be back to try more of their items. I just wish they had some tables and chairs so I could sit and enjoy more! read more

Amazing lil pastry shop in Apex. We have bought their desserts so many times to our friends house and have always received the best compliments. Owners are really good and always welcoming. I would recommend this place to anyone who love desserts. read more

I love the concept of this bakery. Finally a place that makes Italian pastries. The only negative is that they need to have a separate window for picking up pre orders. To wait in a long line for something we ordered a week ago is unnecessary. You can set it up and pay ahead. It would be easy to do. read more

I make a weekly trip Hera, it's a 40 mile run. Well worth it & we're trying something different every week. They're only open on the weekends, which is probably a good thing. Lol read more
These pastries were so delicious! Cream was extremely fresh and pastries were crispy. We got a loaf of break which was light and fluffy thinly sliced! Highly recommend for a sweet treat. They also have a number of savory options that looked great! read more

Best bakery we have had we have tried many of them, this place by far is hands down the best, always fresh and large sections, people there are friendly and helpful and we have been going there for over a year now. We have been going almost weekly to Utica Bakery since they opened. Being from Utica, NY we are thrilled to be able to get all of the food that we love from up there right here in Apex. Absolutely everything we have gotten from Utica Bakery tastes incredible from their cheesecake to half moons to tomato pie, sausage bread and cannolis. Everything was wonderful including the people working there. Very cool to have this special place "straight outta Utica!"My daughter loves tomato pie and was in her glory eating it. We also bought half moon cookies, lobster tails, cream puffs and cannolis we are going to have to find someone to share with lol so many wonderful choices it's very hard to decide! Utica has been on my list of places to try for a while so I'm glad I finally had the opportunity to check them out! I had contacted the establishment to place an order the week before pick up and they had a timely response. I ordered a tomato pie and assortment of cookies to take to work. My friends/colleagues from Philly were so happy to find that a place in the RDU area sells tomato pies!!! Everything we tried was delicious! I hope to try more of their other menu items in the future. The staff was incredibly helpful and kind. read more

Stopped on our way home from NC to Pittsburgh where Tomato Pie cannot be found. This is a taste of home. Everything is authentic and delicious. It's all sold from a cute little food truck off of the main highway in Apex, NC. Love it! read more

Here's the thing, when I have a good experience, I give credit where credit is due. When I have a bad experience, I have to advise of that as well. We're having company for dinner and I decided to stop at the bakery I had heard about. I ordered 4 cannolis (plain) and 1 chocolate eclair. As you can see from the pictures, the filling in the cannoli is runny and oozing out into the box (for context, it took me 10 min to get home in 40 degree weather, so it didn't melt in the heat). Furthermore, the filling isn't traditional plain at all, it is lemon-flavored and very unappetizing. On to the eclair. What the heck with the size?! Pen for scale. Bigger is not better. It is over baked and crunchy inside and out (not the desired texture ) and has a mountain of pastry cream. It is inedible. Husband I decided to just throw the whole box out rather than serve it to guests. This was my first experience with Utica and maybe they were having a really bad day, but I personally won't be giving them a second chance when I can drive 15 minutes further to La Farm and be guaranteed an excellent product. read more
