The Apfel (apple) turnover was delicious, as was the Heidelbeerkuchen (blueberry cake) and Zitronenschnitten (lemon bar). I saw a nice gentlemen there that day who I think may be part owner; based on what I see on their website I wonder if it was Herr Norbert. While waiting for another guy behind the counter to bag my goodies, I happened to mention (to who I think was Norbert) that I'm learning German, and he spoke some basic German to me! Which I understood - OMG, must tell my German teacher. A couple weeks later I needed to bring desserts to our monthly Book Club meeting, and Annelore's was my first thought. I decided to visit their actual store in Cary. Even though it's an hour away from home, I stopped by one day when I had to go to Raleigh for an appointment. An Annelore's employee helped me with selecting about six cake slices and 2-3 different bars, plus some German cookies. The inside of the store is very clean, and there are some places to sit if you'd like to eat there. The employees were kind and helpful (and patient, in my case, trying to decide what to buy for a Book Club group I'd never met in person). Annelore's German Bakery is a wonderful way to take care of your dessert needs and support a local business at the same time. If you need a dessert, cake, scones, or other treats for your home gathering, BBQ, church social, potluck, business lunch, or other event, I would definitely let Annelore's take care of that part for you! 10/10, highly recommend! I got lucky and snagged a spot near the front, though :) I looked around at everything and it all looked so tasty! I decided to grab a loaf of pumpernickel bread, but next time I'll probably get a dessert or two. The staff were helpful throughout my visit. They asked me if I wanted my bread sliced, and when I replied in the affirmative, gave me a helpful chart with a lot of different options for how thick I wanted each slice :) I took the bread home, stuck it in the oven, and ate it with some butter and jam. After dinner I cut one each of the pastries in quarters to share. The lemon had a very slight taste of lemon (very very slight), and although the blueberry appears to be packed with fruit, it only tasted like soggy dough. (See pic). My last shot was the macaroon. I gave one to my daughter to split with me. She barely split it. The filling was like the mixed it with marshmallows. It stretched while the cookie crushed, and also did not taste good at all. Small selection in comparison to Preston Corners location, but still good quality. Delicious bakery items as you would expect from La Farm and very friendly helpful staff encountered here. The Deets: I had the chance to go by this location of La Farm Bakery near downtown Cary on Chatham St a couple of times during the past holiday season. I had walked over first to see about getting some gift baskets shipped to friends for the holidays but found out upon entering that they only handle shipping at the Preston Corners/Cary Parkway location. I was surprised as this location had such a large footprint with being the size of a grocery store but most of that size is used for the actual baking/storage itself it appears. The bakery service/cafe at this location is pretty small but nice and clean, with the only sitting area only outside with no actual inside seating to enjoy any purchases. There is not a dedicated inside sit-down cafe experience here. The actual selections on the shelves available seem in less volume than say their Preston Corners location (on my second visit here I wound up going to Preston Corners again for the items I wanted for a holiday party I was to attend). The same, still delicious, baked items in their display case as well as coffee/beverages are available here and still as enjoyable which earns most of their four stars here. Luckily the second visit I made here was on a warmer day so the outside seating could be utilized if you wanted to eat there. Another reason for their four stars here is the great positive attitude and friendly demeanor of the staff here. Even though they could not help me with my shipping of gift baskets on the first visit when I inquired, I was offered coffee while I waited for my ride share to take me to the Preston Corners location and that was greatly appreciated. The small cafe at the downtown Cary of La Farm Bakery is a nice stop for bakery items and goodies but for more of the full "La Farm experience" for gifts etc. then you may want to start out at the Preston Corners/Cary Parkway location.
