In town from Atlanta and Stopped in this evening for an after dinner coffee and dessert. Upon arrival there was 5 tables in the restaurant, it was around 9:40pm. After waiting at the host stand for a couple minutes what looked to be the hostess walked up and we politely asked if we could get a small table for 4 around the bar seating area as we were just there for coffee and a dessert. She rudely responded with "um, I'll have to check." Another couple min go by, she returns and said we could sit at the bar but to "hurry up and decide on an order because we promptly close at 10" (mind you the hours on the front door state 5-until). Needless to say we walked out after a response like that. Customer service isn't for everyone and if you have a bad attitude you shouldn't be working at what's claimed to be an upscale restaurant. It's sad to see such a nice place ruined with snobby workers that just cost the establishment an easy $80 tab. What a shame. read more

My husband and I dined here for the first time for our anniversary in March 2018. I ordered the pork chops and my husband got the ribeye steak. I guess I was expecting a traditional pork chop, and I have to admit I did not enjoy the contemporary twist in this dish at all. But on a positive note, my husband had the ribeye steak and it was delicious! The best steak we've had in the Augusta area. The atmosphere was romantic and upscale. Overall, it was a great night. read more

We had heard so much about their Sunday brunch, we decided to try it for ourselves. Firstly, we arrived 20 minutes late. The restaurant had already called us at the 15 minute mark to confirm if we were coming. Full marks here already!!! We were seated immediately with Patrick as our server. We remembered him from our anniversary celebration dinner there in Nov 2018! He ofc did not remember us since he sees so many new faces daily! Anyway, the food was fresh, delicious and plenty!! The Belgian waffles were fresh and soft and just melted in our mouths. The dessert bar was to die for! Amazing preparation and display. We thoroughly enjoyed spending over an hour there, eating at a leisurely pace without feeling rushed. They also have outdoor seating, which will be our request at our next brunch meal there. Patrick is so sweet and friendly, always answering with a smile, waiting on us so attentively. We absolutely loved the brunch experience. Looking forward to going back soon! Absolutely 5 stars! read more

I'm a fan of Edgar's Grille. I've been a fan since they opened there doors. Saying this is my friends and I favorite brunch destination is an understatement. We typically end up here after church on Sunday. I've visited for dinner as well. I have enjoyed the experience during brunch and dinner. The menu for brunch changes from time to time. We've enjoyed the Monte Cristo and Shrimp and Grits vanish from the brunch menu, but I'm sure they'll make a return. (fingers crossed). They've added other items like the Cinnamon French Toast, which is excellent. The biscuits and gravy is another addition, at least from what I remember. My friend had it and enjoyed it. A mainstay is the cheese grits. Love 'em! As far as the dinner menu is concerned, I'll have to visit soon to see if anything has changed, but I've enjoyed appetizers like the Alligator bites and fried mushrooms. Again, great choices. If you haven't visited, do yourself the favor. Oh, they have an awesome outdoor space too. Comfortable seating and a great view. One of the best outdoor spaces I've seen in Augusta. read more

Edgar's Grille - Cinnamon French Toast - New American Near Me - Augusta, Georgia

This is a well-kept little secret - not anymore! The food here is fantastic, and the staff is very attentive. I have tried almost everything on the menu. I am not a fan of the maxed-out AC -even during summer months - so I would suggest bringing a sweater if you are like-minded. You have the option of dining outside on the patio under the umbrella if you are a fresh-air type of person. It doesn't seem as if a lot of people dine here. I don't know what the reason for that would be, but as I mentioned prior: It's a well-kept secret. read more

Went to an event dinner in the adjacent Goodwill facility here. Had the wedge salad - yay for candied bacon. Salmon was solid - as were greens and beans. Service was lacking. Left my one friend hanging at the table w/o her meal a good 15 minutes after the rest of us were served - and not apologetic. read more

To put it in the nut shell I will be back again. The bar area is really nice. They have some smaller tables or you can sit at the bar. The bar stools are very comfortable but a bit high. The bartenders were excellent and during happy hour they take $3 off wine and $2 off beer. The wine we were served was great. 2 down points is they make the bartenders duck under the bar to serve at the tables, no amount of service or nice clothes can make that movement appropriate for the décor, and you can't transfer the bar tab to the table. The seating area is well spaced so you don't feel that you are sitting on top of each other. They brought out fresh baked oatmeal bread and pimento cheese. It was pretty darn good. We were a table of 9 so there was a bit of everything from the menu ordered. There was a fried vegetable appetizer that everyone seemed to really like. For the entrees the opinion was pretty much unanimous. There was no seasoning on anything. One thing that is a must is SALT! The burgers had an excellent meat mix but it didn't pop because of no seasoning. The scallop linguini bland no seasoning, halibut was over cooked and needed seasoning. The pizza's were very good. The desserts were basically flawless. Everyone loved them As far as service, service was pretty darn good in general except for a couple miss steps. Now usually I would have given this place a lower rating but one thing that has to be understood is that there is a mixture of people training (going to school to learn the trade of serving and cooking) and professionals so if you are coming to expect everything to be perfect then you may be disappointed. Like it was nice that they were setting down all the entrees at once right to the point they forgot the pizza for the 7 year old child.(thank goodness for the other pizza and large portions of food). The pizza really should have been taken off the check because it didn't come out until everyone had finished their entrée. Overall the food is decent. They lose the stars for these reasons: The flub with forgetting to fire the pizza, the entrees being under seasoned, I feel the prices are not bad but there should be a little more of a break on the pricing as there are chefs and wait staff in school so make up for possible miss steps with price break and make the bar so your bartenders dont have to squat down. read more

Went here for our anniversary and loved it. Food was great and the service was excellent. Our food came out quickly and was perfect. Will go back there for a date night!!!!!! read more

This was one of those instances where the food was good but the service and restaurant sucked. We got to the restaurant a few minutes early for our 7 pm reservations. We were seated and it was at least 15 minutes before anyone asked for a drink orders. After that it was another long wait before anyone came back to ask us about appetizers or anything else on the menu. Food wise we ordered the fried calamari appetizer and it was excellent. Finally after what was another long wait our meals got to the table all except one of our party. I ordered 6 ounce fillet medium but it was badly overcooked. My wife ordered a salmon pizza that was the item which came out late but it was good once it got to the table. We noticed that it was extremely loud in the restaurant. It was like eating in a communal hall. The bar area was very attractive and nice area to eat in but we were in the hall area. Overall price to value was ok. The food was pretty good but the service and atmosphere are really lacking. For the money there much better choices in the Augusta area. read more

Just move to the area a week ago and came here to celebrate our anniversary. The atmosphere was really nice. We made reservations for 7:15 and got here in time. However, we were told that it would be a 10-20 mins wait time which I didn't understand why we made reservations. We sat at the bar and waited for us to be seated. We were seated after about 25-30 minutes and immediately had our server came over to us. We order an appetizer with salmon in it which was great. My husband ordered the rack of lamb and I ordered the chicken breast. Our meal came and my husband immediately jump on his lamb while giving an approving head nod because he liked it. However, I couldn't give the same approval for my chicken because something was definitely off with the textures. I had never had chicken breast that had a powdery texture. I was looking for my server to ask if I could get something else. She finally came over and apologized. She offered to changed it for the salmon which was much better than that chicken. I would say my server was very accommodating and was apologetic. She did not charge me extra for the change which I think was nice of her. Will I go back most definitely but no chicken for me in the future. I'll pass read more

First let me start by saying that Edgar's Grille is run by the culinary school for the Augusta Goodwill. So when one dines here you have to take into account that there are students training. That being said the facility is first class. The bar is very nice, maybe the best in Augusta. There is a outside patio. There is a wood fire grill for pizza near the bar. I did not eat the pizza but is looked good. Started off with the rabbit tenders. I had not seen that on a menu before. They were tasty although they had a sauce that looked like the sausage gravy you get on a biscuit at Bojangles. It did not taste like that but the combination was not pleasing to the eye. Next I had the caesar salad. It was done nicely, dressing had the right tart and it came with anchovies. So many times restaurants will not serve the salad traditionally. I liked the salad. Ordered the strip steak. Unfortunately two problems, the steak was a terrible cut and the steak had no sear on it and no flavor. Just bland. I sent it back and tried the filet. Again the filet came out with no sear and undercooked. My sense is that Edgars grill want's to be fine dining and they are almost there. I deducted a star because the prices are steep for average service and poor execution. I will give it another chance. I think brunch might be a better choice. The place is in a great location and the ambiance is good so there is definitely potential. Also, I was dining on a Monday night so the "JV" squad may have been on duty. Overall I say give it a try, perhaps during happy hour for a test drive. read more

Came in for Sunday brunch atmosphere was nice. I'm pretty sure the waitress was stoned when we were sat. She wasn't busy and it took 15min to get 3 soft drinks, brought French toast out before salad never came back for refills and disappeared for 30 min when we were ready to cash out. Food was good but not in great quantity for price other than the biscuits and gravy. Eggs Benedict tasted awesome but you'll get more parsley on your plate than your main course. read more

Waited long for the food. We all ordered filets and they were not good cuts of meat. They omitted the sides from our meals as well.Simply terrible experience for the price... save yourself the disappointment! read more

I have nothing negative to say about the staff, decor, or ambiance of the restaurant, in fact, I felt that the look and feel of the restaurant was very nice, however, the food suffered incredibly. You would expect upon walking in to the restaurant and looking at the fare on the menu that the food would actually be really good but it was quite the opposite and very disappointing. To start, we ordered a few appetizers that were specials that night, a scallop and risotto dish, spinach salad, and tomato bisque. The scallops were nicely cooked but eaten alone, they were quite bland in taste. You really had to eat them with the other components on the plate to get any type of flavor. The supposed risotto that accompanied the scallops didn't really taste like risotto and was more like a pile of flavorless mush on which the scallops sat. The spinach salad with strawberry dressing was probably one of the worst dishes we ate. It was as if they just took each ingredient - raw spinach leaves, candied pecans, goat cheese, red onions - and just threw it on the plate without any regard to ensuring there was blending or harmony of flavors. The onions probably could have been soaked in water before serving because they were so hot all I could taste after eating the salad was onion. On top of that the salad was under dressed and any dressing that I may tasted sure didn't taste like strawberry but more like balsamic. Eating the salad felt like I was just digging into a bag of spinach leaves. Moving on to the tomato bisque, or should I say marinara sauce. The soup had the consistency and taste of marinara sauce, it probably would have tasted better over a bed of spaghetti noodles. Had they added a little heavy cream to it to mellow the acidity of the tomato, it might have made it more edible. For our entree, I ordered a filet mignon, medium rare. The steak arrived more rare than medium rare and almost half of it I didn't eat since I swear it looked like it might have mooed at me. The steak was way over salted and charred. All I could taste was salt and burnt meat. Other entrees ordered were the herb roasted chicken, grilled salmon, and a pepperoni pizza. The chicken looked like they just de-feathered it and threw it on the plate. It was HUGE! Upon cutting into it, blood seeped out from the meat and needless to say the chicken had to be returned since it was way undercooked. Mind you, two people ordered the dish, both dishes went back to the kitchen. Onto the grilled salmon, which was not entirely bad but I make better salmon than what was brought out. It was slightly overdone and could have used a little more seasoning. My twin 3-year olds ate it without complaints so I guess that can count for it not being too bad. Lastly, the pepperoni pizza was probably the best dish ordered (although I didt have any) but was kid approved. Out of everything I ate that night, the rolls they served when we sat down, were the only thing I actually enjoyed but those I'm sure we're bought from a bakery. I noticed that adjacent to the restaurant was a culinary school, in fact, the trainee that accompanied our server was a student of that school. I wonder if the chefs in the kitchen, if you can call them that, were also students or graduates from that school. If so, they may need to try for a different profession. Surprisingly the restaurant was filled with dining patrons. Not sure how long the restaurant has been open but unless the food improves, I can't imagine they can stay in business that long. I certainly won't be returning to this establishment even if I did visit Auusta again. read more

We had a business lunch yesterday, as always, the food is great ! it was impressive to know that Edgar has offered the culinary school and has trained so many young people find passion to cook. Edgars Grill is a unique and honorable concept. In short, chefs here are students in their craft and through this mentorship sponsored by Goodwill ultimately fulfill their career in food preparation upon graduation. This model should highlight and not overshadow their delicious creations. I have inadvertently tasted many of their dishes while only officially dining once but via their catering at the next door conference center during a 9 month long course I am taking. I do find it fun to see who is cooking my food and their story that is placed at the table upon seating. For my experience in their catering I have enjoyed everything I have eaten and considering the challenges in creating delicate flavors when cooking for the masses. I have been impressed with the vegetable sides and chicken where proper caramelizing and texture preservation are noticed and I can only guess serve as technique instructions behind the scene. In the restaurant, I went with a seafood pasta with a beur blanc sauce that was so tasty it could have been lathered over a shoe and I would have enjoyed it. The dish continued to excite with many scallops, shrimp and clams which rounded out a hearty plate that easily satisfied. Edgar's is one of the best overall in Augusta albeit a few miles outside of town. As a self proclaimed home chef I find the distinctive story behind this restaurant exciting and one that only adds to the great experience here. read more

Had a great meal here! Flounder was crispy and flavorful. Excellent wine list. Such a good alternative to the food desert of Washington Rd and Augusta in general. The GM was checking every table and staff worked as a team. Our server was a little slow but didn't have much experience. The others made up for it. Red velvet soufflés not a true soufflé but they let us know that. They told us they were making a new batch and manager let us know right away when they were some. Hope great things for this place! read more

My father took me to Edgar's for a Valentines Day treat. We were both completely impressed with every aspect of our evening. We ate the skate wing as well as the chicken. I went there today for the brunch buffet and everything was delicious! Dom was our server and he explained the importance of Edgar's Grille to the students at Helm's and that made everything even better. Too expensive For the quality and quantity, and with a table for 10 booked in advance.Service was soooooooo slow it took us 2hours to eat. Service was a bit slow and the waitress was too quiet. The mussels were on average, the bread and spreads were very good. The pepperoni pizza was slightly above average, but the fried tomatoes and crab claws were dry and flavorless. My husband and I had the best dining experience. Our booth was private. The decor was clean and modern. Our waiter was attentive throughout the meal. We were pleased to find we arrived during happy hour. My husband had the Fig Jam Old-Fashioned and I had the Sangria. Both were fabulous! We had the side salads as a starter with yummy cornbread mini loaves. We ordered the special flatbread pizza of the evening, Chicken Marsala. Light, fresh and flavorful with the perfect "brick oven taste". We shared the Shellfish and Grits. It was a generous helping. The grits were creamy and plenty of andouille and crawfish mixed in the perfect roux with lightly fried shrimp as the topping. I will crave that dish until I can have it again! We can't wait to go back! read more

It didn't live up to expectations at all. I can make any recipe you throw in front of me, so could easily come up with a killer menu for the type of ambiance this restaurant is trying to uphold, but today was very disappointing with not many choices to choose from. Service was extremely slow and our waitress didn't know the answer to anything we asked. I honestly have no desire to ever try it again. read more

I was pleasantly surprised by the food at Edgar's. I went in with somewhat low expectations after hearing that students prepared the food here (no offense, but I'm also a student and know how important and valuable experience is). Apparently, the food is prepared by a professional chef, and the students are doing their culinary rotations through the restaurant (I imagine like a medical student rotating through clinicals). Overall, the food was pretty good. I went for their lunch buffet, so I'm not sure about the quality of their dinner menu. I will say that the presentation showed that they were students, but the flavors were all there. I do like how you can see everyone working in the kitchen, which gives the restaurant a unique feel. The interior is also very clean and spacious. I would recommend going to try out Edgar's if you're ever in Augusta and are looking for a place to get some lunch. read more

We love that this restaurant is so close. They are associated with a culinary college and their recipes are always new and delightful. Absolutely love it here!!!! I will definitely go back and tell all of my friends to join me!!! Staff and cleanliness gets 5 stars!!!

Tries Edgar's Grille for the first time last night and it was excellent. They have a small menu of food that is perfected. My party of eight ordered the salmon, filet mignon, fried chicken, Augusta springrolls, and more. The hits of the night were the salmon and filets, and the fried chicken (honey sriracha fried chicken) mac and cheese were a bit too smokey. Also the meat and cheese board was very pungent, and should only be orders by true cheese lovers. Vanilla creme brulee was our favorite dessert followed by the chocolate bread pudding which was served hot with ice cream. Be dressed business casual for lunch and dinner, and be prepared to spend about $30/ person including drinks. Fine dining with a great cause behind it. This eatery is linked to a culinary school associated with the Goodwill. Don't let that stop you, the food is impeccable, and rivals our finest restaurants. read more

Fantastic example of what Augusta is missing. Presentation and deliciousness! The restaurant went through a rough patch but the new executive chef runs an awesome kitchen. Visited Edgars Grille last night while in town on business, as recommended by a friend. This is a new restaurant that was recently opened. The decor is stunning and was pretty busy for a Tuesday night. We had a selection of items from the appetizers list. Everything was prepared with excellence, and it was a treat to have such a varied menu. The service was top of the line, and we really enjoyed our time there. I'm guessing as soon as this restaurant is 'discovered', it will be busy all the time. read more

A new (as of Feb. 2013) high end restaurant (reasonably priced) in the Augusta area with a unique connection to Goodwill Industries. Nice decor, excellent, albeit a bit eccentric "American with a Southern flair" menu, and good service. The menu has Tapas, Brick Oven Pizzas, Soups, Salads, Appetizers, Entrees, and Dessert. Everything is made with fresh and mostly local ingredients. I started with the Smoky Corn Chowder, (basic corn chowder with a nice slightly smoky flavor), the Duck Confit (listed under Appetizers, excellent flavors from the confit as was the roasted beets), and the Baby Iceberg salad (inner wedges of iceberg lettuce with a sweet and spicy bacon dressing along with pickled red onion), Yummm. Finished with a good cup of coffee and Chocolate Pave (like a thick chocolate mousse). Most excellent. I went to see some friends the following week and tried the Red Velvet Souffle. It was delicious as was the 10 yr. Tawny Port. Pizzas looked well made, thin crust, will need to try some Tapas next time, and the more normal selection of Entrees, shrimp and grits, chicken & waffles, pork chops, salmon, beef tenderloin, and what looked to be a beautiful flounder with shellfish (mussels) fricassee. If you are looking for a most pleasant night out, with an above normal menu of excellent choices, you should try the Edgar's Grille. Has a full bar also. read more

This resturant needs help with service. We arrived at 7:15 didn't get our entree until an hour and a half later. Our waitress never checked on us. I had to flag her down to get a refill. This is a very expensive resturant. We spent 145.00 on two people. I have never been treated so poorly in an resturant in my life!!!! The food was very good but not worth the price and lack of service! If you want a little privacy say you have 3 people in your party. The 2 person tables are on top of each other. You feel like you have been sat with complete strangers. Forces you to have awkward conversation. Edgar's has potential . The management needs to get a clue about customer service!!! read more

I would rate this restaurant a 5, if it wasn't for our server. The food is outstanding. Sunday was the second time my wife and I have eaten at Edgar's. We had dinner a couple weeks ago, and we ate brunch on Sunday. I have no complaints about our experience at dinner. I wish the same could be said about our experience on Sunday. The waiter acted as if we were burdening him the entire time, and was downright rude. Between his tone, and sarcastic comments to my wife, we will not be back. Maybe they use students at the college for their wait staff for brunch. I don't know, but I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more
