A must go when visiting Augusta. The food here is phenomenal specifically the Nashville Chicken Dip is a must have. Their Chicken Chicken Sandwich portion size is good and very juicy. The Bread Pudding is probably the best bread pudding ever. My biggest take aways are, doing take out is not really the best because the portion sizes are a bit smaller and the chicken wings are all right. But for Dine in, it is worth it. The biscuit is big and was good, soft with a crisp top and honey butter over it. We like the variety of juices they offer too! I like grapefruit juice and not a lot of restaurants offer it. They only prepare eggs 3 ways, over easy, scrambled or over hard period. I haaaate runny whites when I eat eggs but ok with runny yellow so order OM usually but I wasn't risking it and scrambled mine in the bowl, asking for scrambled "well" hoping they were not too wet. It sounds picky but texture... they were cooked fine and we liked the restaurant, servers and overall vibes here. They had a cute bakery case too with some large cake pops, cookies and great looking desserts! Y'all, I really wanted to like this place. My family and I stopped in for a quick bite to eat along the way from ATL to Charleston. I was the passenger and resident Yelper, so I was tasked with finding a restaurant for lunch. On the surface, the Frog & the Hen has all the charm and ambiance one would expect from a place like First Watch or Another Broken Egg. I was hoping for the food and service to match. Sadly, both fell very short. Right off the bat, before we were even seated, our hostess said they were short-staffed. Red flag #1. After we were seated, our server took our order without writing anything down. Red flag #2. Mind you, he was being shadowed by a trainee, and even she didn't help get our order right. Then, our order took about 45 minutes to come out. Red flag #3. It was also wrong. (We had ordered two orders of one biscuit and gravy. We were served three dishes of cold gravy and NO biscuits.) RF #4. My sister's soup was also lukewarm. RF #5 When the biscuits came out, though they were hot, they were cheesy and had the texture of a moist cake like a Filipino cassava cake. RF #6 We came on a busy Tuesday at lunchtime. There were many patrons, but our food orders should have been simple enough to get out quickly (a salad, soup, biscuits and gravy and a side of bacon). The couple across from us looked to be on their lunch break as well, but also seemed upset at the lack of service. I had high hopes for this restaurant and first foray into the dining scene in Augusta. I will not be returning. When we came back through, we stopped at the very reliable Chick-fil-A and had a great experience. Of all the places I ate in Augusta, Forge & the Hen takes the cake. Everything about the dining experience was enjoyable. It reminded me of First Watch but with a better brunch and lunch menu. I sat at the bar and the two working back there (Natalie and I think Evan?, sorry she introduced herself and I have a short memory span ) were helpful and attentive. I ordered an espresso martini (pretty good- heavy on the coffee flavor) and chicken and waffles with a side of fries. Everything was delicious, the waffle was fluffy, the chicken was nicely fried, and I ordered it Nashville hot, so despite the spicy flavor, it wasn't overpowering. I will say having lived in Nashville, it's better there, but they gave it their best shot here. Fries could have been crispy, but I liked that they were hand cut and also had good flavor. I didn't use syrup nor did I have to add any seasonings to any part of my meal. Everyone I encountered was friendly and said hello, and even goodbye upon leaving. Wow! I just found a new favorite breakfast spot. My daughter and I stopped for breakfast, actually on impulse. I wasn't sure but when the hostess, Chloe, welcomed us with such a beautiful smile, I knew we were in a good place. (She spared me a bite) My breakfast platter was delicious but I looked in vain for a salt shaker but one bite of my fluffy scrambled eggs convinced me it wasn't necessary. Perfectly seasoned with 3 strips of good bacon and my very own cheese biscuit! The seating is great and that's important to us as my daughter has to sit at a table instead of a booth. The two TVs were tuned to Make a Deal/Price is right or Sports channel, a welcome break from dismal news when one is trying to eat. Meanwhile Jude is checking on us, making sure we didn't need refills or napkins. I also have to commend the spotless restrooms. Three separate units, unisex, complete with sinks and changing tables. Every restaurant should follow suit and stop worrying about who goes where! The only complaint I had was that the coffee wasn't hot enough. I know that Jude would happily bring me a fresh cup but I decided to go with my water. What a petty complaint! It should not have taken this long for me to finally eat here! But alas, we finally got a taste and were SO SATISFIED that we ordered takeout brunch again the next morning!! I got the chicken biscuit with gravy. The chicken is breaded and fried to perfection, on top of an open biscuit with gravy and an over easy egg (also cooked to perfection). My husband tried to hollandaise and we both vote the gravy is better! The maple description of the gravy scared me a little, but it didn't come thru too much and so it was an excellent gravy. Our kids got waffles and we tried them- they're absolutely delicious! The fruit that comes with them (blackberries, strawberries & blueberries) was a great portion and super fresh!
