I had heard good things, but this was my first time here. It left a good taste in my mouth - literally! The restaurant itself is attached to a ministry. I was greeted the moment I walked through the door. The staff is very friendly. It is cafeteria style dining. Meaning, you go through a line and pick food to be put on your plate. The menu changes daily. I chose the chicken tenders, mac n'cheese and sweet potato casserole with a spicy cornbread muffin. The chicken was delicious, mac was pretty good. The sweet potato was very sweet. It's made with brown sugar and pecans. The cornbread was dry. I had to add honey. My husband got mashed potatoes and gravy, roast beef, and cornbread dressing. This is absolutely love place to eat at. I love the verses on the walls and made sure to get a few pictures of them. Oh, how I will miss this place when I leave for Memphis. Everything they serve is deliciously well seasoned. The stand out for me are the fried green tomatoes. OMG! Sometimes, i just get a double order with my meal and skip the other veggies. The sweet potato casserole is so good. I love their fried pork chops. Perfectly seasoned and fried. My only gripe? I was only in Augusta for three days and hoping to find some southern comfort food. This fit the bill. It's like potluck Sunday with the family. Alright, so this is one of those types of places where upon entering you see the cafeteria style line and immediately think, "dang it, all these good yelp reviews and turns out I got tricked into eating cafeteria food!" Fear not, this is not the case once you have received your delicious food items. I went with the fried tenderloin, which was fried to perfection and bursting with flavor. I also got the fried okra, which was also fried to perfection and had a great combination of both okra and the fry. On to the chicken and dumplings, which were magical. The chicken and dumplings were well prepared, and the flavor was right on. The mashed potatoes and gravy were also delicious, but getting mashed potatoes and gravy with fried pork tenderloin should be a no brainer. Came here with a friend for lunch and was not disappointed. I am glad I don't live over here and that my work schedule only allows me to eat here about once a year or once every six months because while it's not the healthiest, it's so good. This time I ordered an entree instead of the meat with two veggies plate. It was a little higher priced, but I was fine with it. I ordered the shrimp and grits and it came with corn bread and I ordered a vegetable, as well. The shrimp and grits was everything I would want shrimp and grits to be. They had little pieces of bacon in it and the cheddar grits were wonderful. The cornbread was good and so were the fried green tomatoes, like I remembered them to be. I will be back next year! What a wonderful experience, the entire time I was greeted with a smile. It's a cafeteria style set up when you pick your dessert, main option and sides. I chose the chicken livers which were very good and the okra was some of the best I've had and you can definitely tell that those green beans had some butter in them. I've been meaning to try this place for TWO YEARS and after visiting today I'm so mad that I waited so long. When I arrived I almost turned around because the line way so long. Don't let the deter you though, the line moves quickly and the food is definitely worth it. Once I made it up to the counter to order everyone was super friendly and everything looked delicious not to mention fresh. Staff offered to carry our trays because I was holding a baby. We ordered fried pork chops, pot roast, fried okra, broccoli casserole, sweet potato casserole, fritters, chicken tenders, corn bread, jalapeno corn bread, banana pudding, green beans, cream of corn and lemonade. I suggest the roast beef, the fried pork chop, chicken tenders, broccoli casserole, cream corn and lemonade most out of what we ordered but all of it was decent. My husband had the roast beef, broccoli casserole, fried okra, cornbread, and a slice of key lime pie. Everything was so delicious. My favorite was the sweet potato casserole. It was topped with candied pecans which gave it a delicious crunch and added sweetness. The pineapple pie was fluffy and delicious but the key lime pie was incredible. It was thoroughly lime-y, not like most key lime pies which taste like they're just lime yogurt and have only a hint of lime. If you get a chance, lunch here is not to be missed and you really owe it to yourself to try their desserts. The restaurant is located in the back of a large ministry, and has all the classic hymns playing in the background, which adds to the ambiance.
