It was OK, nothing fabulous. I would suggest not sitting at the first table by the door, there's an air vent on the floor and it was very cold and it's extremely loud, overall. Took a while for the food to come out. Service was OK. The mac & cheese is greasy, didn't care for the signature bread. I liked the squash casserole, though! My husband and I have been eating at this restaurant for over a year. You may have to wait a few minutes on occasions but the food is fresh, hot and delicious. I picked up dressing, gravy , collards and turkey legs to finalize my Thanksgiving dinner and it was all wonderful. The flies had another customer upset so he complained and let everyone know there were 6 of them in the window beside his table he got some tissue from the bathroom and started killing them after he saw the waitress do it too! I've said it before and I'll say it again; I came from country. I hide it well (at least I think I do), but the moment I see fried chicken and cornbread and collard greens and banana pudding on a menu I might as well change into my Liberty overalls from when I was 8. I've known about this place for some time, looked over as I passed by, but just never made the visit. And oh how I regret that now. The restaurant is located in a house, which should be a instant hint that you are in for some good food. Parking can fill up fast, but even if you have to park on the main street it's close enough to walk. There's indoor seating and a few tables out on the front porch. Walking in, I had that feeling you get when arriving to your grandparents for the holidays. Someone sees you walk in, tells ya to "grab a open seat", and the place is full of delicious aromas and conversations a buzzing. I didn't see anyone I knew while I was there, but somehow the entire time I felt like I could have taken my shoes off and no one would have cared. I of course ordered a cup of coffee and water, but you can't come to such a place and not ask for a glass of sweet tea. And in case you're wondering, none of the three went empty. I ordered the chicken pot pie with greens and black eyed peas as the sides and jalapeno cornbread. I added on the mac n cheese, couldn't pass that up. And when it was all said and done, I debated between the banana pudding and the strawberry shortcake. The team member waiting on our table mentioned that the pudding is a staple, but the shortcake is seasonal. So I had to get the cake. The pot pie, everything it should be and more. The buttery flaky crust, the chicken and peas and carrots flavored to perfection. The collards with that salty fatback flavor cooked in, the black eyed peas just the right texture (aka, not turning to mush), and the mac n cheese so creamy you use a spoon to get every bit from the bowl. That shortcake was a gift from heaven. Whole strawberries macerated in sugar with a whipped cream and moistness that also has you scrapping the plate for every crumb. I am already thinking about what to order on my next visit. And trust me, that visit will be sooner rather than later. Don't be like me and drive by constantly without stopping. Learn from my mistake and grab a meal there soon! read more

This restaurant is in an old historic home in North Augusta and it is charming. This was my second lunch here, they only serve from 11-3 every day but Saturday and it didn't disappoint. Their daily menu is posted on their website with 5 main entrees, lots of "premium" sides and a bread choice but there are also sandwiches and salads. Today DD chose the chicken tenders with sides of tomato cucumber salad and collards. She chose an Hawaiian roll as her bread. I went with smothered chicken which was on a bed of stuffing and covered with sautéed onions and delicious gravy. I had lima beans and beet and onion salad as my sides. My bread choice was their jalapeño cornbread which I think is used in the dressing. It made it slightly spicy and brought out the corn taste. The smothered chicken was a leg quartand it was falling off the bone tender. My DD reported that her tenders were fresh and flavorful. She asked for both of the dipping sauces which she said were good but gave the edge to their creamy ranch. Our server took great care of us and was sweet and engaging. The total bill, with one sweet tea at $3.50 (!), was $38.00. We may have been able to eat a cheaper lunch but I doubt it could be more delicious. Definitely check them out! read more

I discovered this cute restaurant on FB. I decided to take my husband their for his birthday. We weren't disappointed. From the time we opened the front door we were made to feel at home. The food was delicious! I had one of their summer salads, and it was so refreshing and delicious! My husband had the hamburger steak, and he said it was tender and not dry at all. He also enjoyed the black eye peas and cornbread. Let me tell you, I love some sweet tea and McNeely's didn't disappoint. It was good and strong. We had McNeely's Place cater our church lunch yesterday, and let me tell you--it was absolutely amazing! The pot roast, mashed potatoes, green beans, mac & cheese, and bread were all soooo good. Everyone was raving about it! Ana Keener was such a joy to work with--she coordinated everything perfectly and made the whole process easy from start to finish. Finally made it back! As much as I love home cooked southern food, I came in solely for the mushroom and Swiss burger. I'm just scrolling Facebook and BAM- saw a pic that I couldn't stop thinking about. So I got my burger and wow! A handmade patty smothered in mushrooms. Very good. My daughter was on lunch break so I picked up her dog so we could all hang out. And I'm thankful that they allowed us to eat in the outdoor seating area. Everyone who left the restaurant walked by our dog and pet or talked to her. I wish I lived closer, but I'll be in Tennessee thinking about this restaurant. I'll be back soon. read more

Rustic little place that makes you feel like your eating in a family's farmhouse. I had to order to go since it was open a lunchtime and I hardly ever get days off...the place was pretty packed by noon and they're even extending hours since there are som many customers now! My friend and I got the beef tips with rice/gravy and smothered pork chop to share. I enjoyed both but I may have liked the pork chop gravy a tad more since it was seasoned a little better and had mushrooms. The bacon jalapeño cornbread was a perfect accompaniment to the meal. I tried the banana pineapple nut bread and thought that would be perfect at the end of my meal. Sides were good and there's a large selection on the menu. I really like the watermelon feta salad with balsamic dressing. I'd love to see a broccoli, rice, and cheese casserole as well as sweet potatoes with pecans on the menu in the future (wink, wink). Lemon bars were tart and not overly sweet. Banana pudding is a traditional Southern heavy, some people like it this way, I like mine a little fluffier. They call their style "American Traditional". I call it home cookin'. It literally is a house. That's about as homey as it gets. Three living areas are set up for customers. Much of the charm and ambiance of the old home have been maintained. The staff are super friendly, helpful, and attentive. It's like they are part of the house. They move throughout like they own the place and treat you like guests in their home, rather than customers. The manager makes it a point to greet each table. Again, like you are her guest. The food is good old fashioned home cooking. There are no instant mashed potatoes here. This is borne out by bits of potato and potato peels. And check this out, they taste like potatoes!!!! Not fancy cheeses, herbs, etc. The meatloaf was also simple and better for it. Again they made meatloaf that tastes like meatloaf, not somebody's idea of how to make a better better meatloaf. It was a dense loaf topped with ketchup, just like meatloaf should be and didn't crumble apart when touched with a fork. Even the ice tea tasted like ice tea. Their menu is small and changes daily. Which is all the more reason to keep coming back. If you haven't figured it out yet, I highly recommend this place. I will be returning. So my husband made reservations for Valentines Day. It's a cute little place. They had a menu for the night catered to Valentines Dinners. We had a ceaser salad & smoke gouda tomato bisque....appetizers were a choice of scallops,stuffed mushrooms or hot spinach artichoke dip...we did the scallops but was disappointed when they were the small bay scallops & they were only warm & very chewy. Our amazing waitress then brought us the stuffed mushrooms, which were way better. My husband absolutely loved his dinner of shrimp & grits & I had a prime rib w/ amazing Brussel sprouts & garlic green beans. The veggies were delicious. We also got to taste the chicken alfredo...very good..very rich sauce. Dessert was good which was red velvet & I had the mousse. Overall dinner was very good and we had great service. Recently had the chance to try out McNeelys. Got take out with the bestie to try for lunch and basically spit everything so we could try it all. The first time we got the beef tips with rice and thr pork chop with gravy. Definitely enjoyed the pork chop. The gravy had a great flavor. Beef tips weren't bad either. As far as the sides we tried the watermelon salad with feta which was refreshing, mac and cheese, brussel sprouts and collards were ok but nothing special. I enjoyed the jalapeño cornbread but would be interested to see it without bacon. The pinapple banana bread was tasty but didn't really go with the meal. Makes a good after meal dessert if you don't spring for one of their sweet treats. We tried the banana pudding and lemon bar. Both were generous servings. The banana pudding was thick and sticky. Lemon bars had a good tart flavor. Second visit I got the chicken salad on croissant with chips. I really liked it because I like grapes in my chicken salad although I prefer mine a smidge sweeter. I'll give McNeely's 3 for this visit, primarily because they were out of the item I wanted from their menu.
