    Black Eye Chicken

Previously my review was that the restaurant was a small establishment with about 4-6 indoor seats and about the same outdoor. Great location downtown. I did state the the customer service was hit or miss but mostly miss. The food is great however establishment is usually not clean(floors etc and has a weird smell) and the establishment could use pest control. I did however go back to the establishment today and the restaurant was much cleaner and the customer service was much better from the person who took my order to the person who address my concerns about my order. My food was not prepared to their usual standards and the issue was resolved. I have had the black eye sandwich which is a chicken Philly and fries. Both are usually delicious. My mom has had the Thai chili wings which she enjoyed. Their drinks are canned and bottled so be prepared to spend around $2-$3 per drink. Great eats. I'd definitely eat here again. Based on today alone.

Knuckle Sandwiches delivered the perfect meal this week. The Black Eye Chicken has a great kick, and their namesake Knuckle Sandwich is a classic for a reason. Often, delivery fries can be soggy, but these were seasoned well and stayed crispy. Five stars all around--ordering round two tonight!

These sandwiches are HUGE and delicious! I ordered the Philly sandwich. And it was SO GOOD! My husband ordered the one with jalapeño's and it was also very good. They have a unique seasoning on the fries but they are good. I rubbed off some of the seasoning but that's just my preference. They have some really cool artwork/ displays in the restaurant and it's boxing themed which is pretty cool. I'm from Philly so seeing a Rocky themed restaurant was fun! The employee was very nice and helped with all questions. I would definitely go back!

A tiny little spot with seating for 10 inside with a few tables outside also. We enjoyed the Black Eye Chicken and the Uppercut Cheesesteak, which we could not finish. Sandwich and fries were cooked great. They told us about 20 minutes but it didn't take that long. Nothing fancy but it got the job done right.

I went here on a late Friday afternoon on my lunch break while downtown. They have a few tables inside and outside. I got the "Swiss & mushroom grilled cheese", which has, marinated grilled baby bella mushrooms and melty Swiss on a toasted hoagie, served with fries and a side of Thai chili ranch for $10. First and fore most... THE FRIES!!!! these were some of the best fries I have ever had, no seriously. Perfectly crispy on the outside, nice potato filling on the inside with great seasoning! The grilled cheese was okay, the mushrooms were great but to me the Swiss cheese tasted more like white American cheese. The staff was also so kind and helpful, I told them it was my first time and they were so accommodating and eager to please! I recommend giving Knuckle Sandwiches a try! I'd love to go back and try the signature "knuckle sandwich" it sounds great!

Excellent food! Definitely worth going for a local vibe. Very happy I found this place via the reviews on yelp. Just wish they had more seating and fountain drinks instead of cans. Loved this place and recommend!

    Devil Dog

This was my first time trying Knuckle Sandwiches. The Devil Dog was good. The fries that came with it were also really good. I will for sure be coming back and trying something new. It's a tiny spot that can seat between 10-15 people. It's a local sandwich shop. They don't have fountain drinks. Drinks are limited to what's in the fridge by the counter.

Really tasty sandwich and we liked the small quaint space. A little spicy but in a good way.

Good bbq dinner with a colleague tonight…read more One of the more popular dining options in the south is BBQ. This one we chose tonight is a small chain, but offers an excellent bbq dining option. It's not a sitdown restaurant. You place your order at the counter then go find a place to eat. They bring out the food to you. Once you sit down, you're served with a plate of warm biscuits. There's some sort of cheese or something inside them, but it wasn't a distracting ingredient, just different. You always like it when you get the opportunity to try multiple types of bbq meat. The option for tonight was bbq rib and pulled pork. Not only are the portions very good. (had to get a to go box) but both meats tasted super. The pulled pork was tender and juicy. The ribs were large and plentiful. The ribs could've been a little more "fall off the bone", but we're good nonetheless. There's only one type of sauce to put on the ribs, but it was a good and not too tangy. With this meal option, you get two choices of sides. Being a big fan of coleslaw that was one side. The other side was corn on the cob. The coleslaw was sweet tasting. The corn on the cob had a bit of a hot bite to it. Both were fantastic. Thought to go with the sweet tea option, but since I had it earlier in the day, I chose otherwise.

My experience at this location was not good! Last night…read more(approx 7pm) I stopped in for a Brisket plate, sandwich, whatever- I just wanted some Brisket. Pulled up to drive thru and this is what I hear,"hello, just to inform you we are out of Ribs, Brisket, Turkey and Chicken." I'm in shock, so I did not say anything for a while. I'm looking at the menu, it's 7pm, I'm at a BBQ place with NO BBQ. The voice come back and says, "if you have any questions, let me know", "we have smoked wings, catfish, burgers that are great options". I'm still trying to get myself together, so I'm still quiet. Finally I ask for the Smoked Wings (btw: I dislike chicken on a bone) yes my fault for ordering. I order the habanero smoked wings (6) and Mac and cheese...$17! I did not inspect the bag before pulling off because I just knew this was not going to taste good- I KNEW IT. The lady who took my order just did not represent a place that serves GOOD food. When I received my bag, it was sticky ( paper bag sticky?) and had BBQ sauce fingerprints. My hands were nasty from just trying to go in bag (yuck). I get home. Wash my hands, pull out my food and there I have Smoked Honey Habanero Chicken Wing Soup. The presentation was Horrible! They did not care how they over sauced those large chicken pieces. Some of the wings were split (wingettes) and some had the two pieces attached. Mac and cheese was missing the cheese only had the Mac! I have not been to this place since they opened, it's because I'd heard the food was not good since the people left who opened the restaurant. What's sad is Jim'N Nicks use to have a good name in other cities I've visited. I'm not from Augusta, but I've been here a while. I wish employees would take more pride in their appearance and service. If this is your chosen profession treat it as such. It doesn't matter if you earn $8/hr or $80/hr. Managers should demand etiquette and staff should want to display etiquette. It starts with how YOU LOOK. How the workplace is kept. How the service is provided. How the Customer feels when they leave! I just want everyone to do better! Be better! BTW: I donated $17 to Jim 'N Nicks BBQ- I thought I could not get past the presentation to even taste the food! But I had my husband remove the meat from the bone, I placed meat in air fryer and the little meat I tasted-was not too bad. I did not try the Mac & Cheese. I wanted Brisket, so I should have left when I was informed they had no brisket! I need these restaurants to care about the locals... have an ALWAYS STEP UP mentality!

But South Carolina has the best BBQ of all the southern states when you can find the right stuff. BBQ Barn is the right stuff. They've got pulled pork with quality sauces, hash similar to what I make myself (therefore excellent), delicious southern sides, sweet (and unsweet) tea, various other meats (their burnt ends are yum!) and some desserts that look great but I haven't tried yet. They also aren't a buffet style restaurant which is a great thing in my opinion. They have a good amount of seating but I don't think they'll fit lots of large groups so keep that in mind. They do have a drive thru and you can order food to go. Unfortunately, they are also like other good BBQ places in their limited hours; they are only open Wednesday-Saturday each week so they can't be Sunday dinner or Monday emergency dinner unless you plan well ahead. The staff are nice and the restaurant is always clean enough. When we aren't making our own barbecue, we are probably getting barbecue from BBQ Barn (or the only other good bbq spot in the CSRA).

I also can't speak highly enough if the sauces. I am a big fan of the spicy georgia red bbq sauce. The gold is also great, just a mustard flavor. I'm tempted to buy a bottle the next time I visit. The order included: Two-meat option (beef with hickory sauce, pork with sassy sauce) Coleslaw Baked beans Six wings with sassy sauce Blue cheese dressing The order arrived in approximately 35-40 minutes, which was acceptable. However, when I opened the bag, several items were missing and the food quality was unacceptable. There were: No utensils No napkins No blue cheese dressing No hickory sauce Additionally, the meats were cold, the baked beans were barely warm, and the coleslaw was not at an appropriate chilled temperature. When I called the restaurant to report the issue, the person who answered stated, "I didn't bag your order." When I suggested that someone should look into who did, she laughed. That response was more disappointing than the food itself. This experience reflects poorly not only on this location, but on your brand as a whole. I will not be ordering again from this Augusta location or any of your other restaurants. I hope management takes this feedback seriously. Keith Smith

One thing that really stood out was how they start you off with fresh in-house made pork rinds, similar to how Mexican restaurants serve chips and salsa when you sit down. It was a unique and welcoming touch. We ordered the spicy poke, Spam musubis, and a mixed BBQ plate with two scoops of mac salad. Everything was flavorful, fresh, and satisfying. First I'll discuss the food (excellent), then service and comfort (pretty good), and finally move…read moreon to other factors (amusing but also disturbing). I've been disappointed by too many barbecues, even in the South where they are known for the genre. Patriot Smokehouse restored my faith that great barbecue must still exist. I got a 2 meat platter with two sides. Since I was camping I also ordered an extra meat and two more sides to go. Plenty for the lunch and two more meals the next days. All the meats were very good to excellent, fork tender but not falling apart, lots of smoky flavor and visible "bark". And each meat had a completely different spice rub, which I learned were all designed in house. I have a lot to cover so just a few words on each: Pulled pork: a good mix of mostly chopped with not much shreds; lots of flavor even without adding sauce. Brisket (the 2nd of my two-meat platter): tender and fork-cuttable, a bit too thinly sliced for my liking. Baby-back ribs: maybe the best I've ever had. No disagreeable gristly parts, and with an unusual "hammy" flavor (maybe from brining?) Sauces: they have 4 sauces, and they bring you as many as you request. All invented in house. A tomato-based, a mustard-based, a vinegar based, and an extra hot&spicy. I tried all but the vinegar and liked them all but especially the mustard. Now the sides. Potato salad: the potato chunks were not overcooked, a bit mayonnaisey but excellent due to the tanginess and bite of the mustard and who knows what else? Fried okra: well, I had to try it, and if you're determined to eat okra (rather than use it to thicken a gumbo) then fried is the only way - and they nailed it. Baked beans: sauce thick, sweet, and smoky, not the best not the worst. Garden salad (don't judge me; I needed some greens): nothing special; just iceberg lettuce, sliced tomatoes and onions, with shredded cheese; choice of dressing (I had Italian) Quantities: All sides were of reasonable size. The 2-meat platter wasn't balanced though; more than enough pulled pork and not enough brisket. The ribs: a half rack (how many is that - 6?) Other foods: The pecan pie was excellent with sufficient pecans on top, a filling that was not oversweetened, and a good crust. The strawberry pie: not what I expected. It wasn't a fruit filling but more like a mousse. Good for what it was, but I wouldn't order it again. Surprisingly they do not sell cornbread. Drinks: Lemonade, sweet tea, or ice coffee all come with the meal. Free refills on drinks. I got lemonade which was a bit weak but not too sweet. I don't think they serve alcohol. Service: Took slightly longer than I expected but she (cashier, waitperson, mother of the two chef brothers) did come by with a drink refill and kept me updated. She was pleasant and answered my questions about the restaurant's history and other things when asked. Ambience: first thing that struck me was the smoke. The first time I stopped by (to check it out for the next day as I had just eaten) they must have had a slight smoker malfunction because it was visibly wafting through the room - but not too thickly. Ahh, wood smoke and meat drippings; enticing! That's when I knew I had to come back. The room was concrete floored, wood trim stained by years of smoke, plank tables with clear vinyl coverings. Real silverware was provided and plenty of napkins. There was a TV but it was small and the sound was off. It was playing "Fail Army" the whole time which was fun! The music was alt-country, old rockabilly, and bluegrass; a nice mix. I should stop now but I won't. On to the "other factors". As you can guess from the name "Patriot Smokehouse" there's a theme here. American flags, "Don't Tread On Me", and the waitress/mother was wearing a silly red/white/blue hat and a shirt saying "God, Country, and Freedom" or something to that effect. The symbols abounded, covering the walls. It wasn't all cliché though. A poster titled "Weapons Of the American Revolution" provided at least some interesting reading, and a cartoon of a chicken, pig, and cow titled "Cluck, Oink, Moo" was cute. But then there's the sign on the front door "Lawfully Concealed Weapons Are Welcome Here". That sign is not a joke. Of course they are - and that's fine. But do you have to spell it out in big bold letters and offend those who might be uncomfortable about this? Some compassion would be appreciated. The newspaper review on the wall described it as "unabashadly patriotic" but that's not patriotism - it is jingoism. Want to make America great? That takes compassion, empathy for people different from yourselves, and humility. Judging by the theme here I don't expect that a move to "greatness" if it happens will start here. But I loved the food, enjoyed my conversation with the mother, and the people watching. I'd unhesitatingly come back and recommend it wholeheartedly.

Just checking out this new BBQ spot. First thing to know is that GPS led me to the street side of…read morethe restaurant, but the entryway is on the opposite side towards the corner of the small strip mall! Please put a sign in the window on the closed side. When you pull up to the entrance, you'll smell the smoke from the grill in the air! There's also a huge grill out front that you simply can't miss! I was quickly greeted upon entry. I ordered 2 rib plates with potato salad and a pint of hash, smoked wings weren't available this particular day. Since I've gone back during lunchtime, specifically to try these smoked wings. Unfortunately, they were closed both times. I should have checked their hours prior. Located their hours on their FB page. They're open 11-5 Wednesday-Saturday. Onto the food...The ribs and potato salad were ok or unremarkable to me. I guess I'm a little picky, but I didn't see a smoke ring nor taste the smoke at all. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I did go a little late. Maybe the ribs were warming awhile. Not sure, but I'll give it a try earlier next time along with the smoked wings and update my review as necessary. My husband and I both really loved the hash and rice!!! Also FYI no military or first responder discounts available.

This place is amazing! Best bbq in Augusta hands down. This is a local family owned business and…read moreeveryone was so friendly here. I came at around 3pm but it's advisable to come earlier when they open at 11:30am cause the food sells out fast! They have ribs, chicken, turkey wings, pork chop, and so much more. I got the smokehouse chicken with hash and rice with mac and cheese. The chicken is smoked to perfection and you get good flavor all the way through the whole piece of chicken. It's really tender too and tastes even better with the bbq sauce. The chicken has the best smokey flavor that I've never had anywhere else before. The hash and rice is also really good with lots of flavor and not too salty at all. The Mac and cheese is great too. I don't know what they put in it but it's delicious. The mango lemonade is perfect to wash everything down with (just a little too sweet for my preference). I definitely want to come back again to try their ribs and pork but I need to remind myself to come earlier so everything won't be sold out by the time I get there. I wish i knew about this place earlier because they seriously have good legit bbq. Also wish they had a sign in the front of the restaurant so it's easier to find. But hey if you know you know.
