I'm picky about BBQ, as are most southerners, because everyone has the BBQ they grew up with to set the standard and that varies tremendously geographically! But South Carolina has the best BBQ of all the southern states when you can find the right stuff. BBQ Barn is the right stuff. They've got pulled pork with quality sauces, hash similar to what I make myself (therefore excellent), delicious southern sides, sweet (and unsweet) tea, various other meats (their burnt ends are yum!) and some desserts that look great but I haven't tried yet. They also aren't a buffet style restaurant which is a great thing in my opinion. They have a good amount of seating but I don't think they'll fit lots of large groups so keep that in mind. They do have a drive thru and you can order food to go. Unfortunately, they are also like other good BBQ places in their limited hours; they are only open Wednesday-Saturday each week so they can't be Sunday dinner or Monday emergency dinner unless you plan well ahead. The staff are nice and the restaurant is always clean enough. When we aren't making our own barbecue, we are probably getting barbecue from BBQ Barn (or the only other good bbq spot in the CSRA). read more

Delicious, warm, gracious. These are the words that come to mind when I think of BBQ Barn. I have now dined here three times. My first two visits were only 24 hours apart because it was so good. This time I experienced the same delicious food and quick service. I am impressed by the quality of the food (so fresh) and how kind everyone is here. I like to ask what they recommend, because the desserts change and the cashier was sweet and indulged my questions. I also can't speak highly enough if the sauces. I am a big fan of the spicy georgia red bbq sauce. The gold is also great, just a mustard flavor. I'm tempted to buy a bottle the next time I visit. My recommendation - Come visit on a warm day. Order a platter of food (2 meats will give you plenty of leftovers) and a slice of cake. Sit at the outside tables and enjoy. There are fans outside if it's too warm. read more

My kids said this place had good BBQ. So my expectations were high with that being said the hash and rice seem too watery and flavorless the brisket tips were good the next day. But I will give praise to the Mac and cheese. Probably the best I had from a restaurant. Since this was my first time I will give them another try. I'm a northerner, but I know what I like and this wasn't it. We ordered a huge assortment of goodies so that we could have a taste of everything and we were really let down. The free hush puppies are dry and tasteless. The brisket was dry, overcooked, and lacked seasoning. The burnt ends were shockingly dry too despite it being pork belly and it was also somehow tasteless. The chopped pork and the pork ribs were the 2 best items that we got since they were somewhat moist, but is this place allergic to seasoning or something because everything could have used a healthy dose of s&p. They offer 4 different BBQ sauces: Mild gold, Mild Regular, Spicy Gold, and Spicy Regular. Spoiler Alert, they're all very vinegar based. The sauce is super runny without any substance to it at all and the spicy is mildly better than the non spicy version. Now onto the sides: The mac and cheese must have used the most mild of cheeses and (again) lacked seasoning, the baked beans were ok (I prefer my beans on the sweeter side,) the potato salad could have used more mustard and mayo, and the hash was delicious! We also ordered 3 desserts, banana pudding (was all whipped cream), strawberry shortcake, and Carolina mud pie (similar to a Mississippi mud pie) were also all a disappointment. Paid $26.00 for bland, old and tasteless food. I got a brisket sandwich with a side of Mac and cheese. I brought a large bbq pork plate with hash and baled beans. You can also get your own bbq sauce, it was 4 of them and I only tasted vinegar and black pepper. The pork plate was very salty. The brisket did not have a smoke ring or had any smoke or grilled taste. Cook it fresh, season your food. That was a lot of money to spend to be highly disappointed. read more

BBQ barn is one of the best places to get reliable, consistent, good South Carolina BBQ. While it is not the smokiest pork butt you'll ever have, nor does it have abundant bark, it is always tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. Their sauce bar lets you select your desired base and spiciness level (but why would you choose anything other than spicy mustard?), and their other BBQ items, such as burnt ends, are also great. The pulled pork is by far my favorite, and they really load you up on food; one large plate is easily two meals. For sides, don't miss out on their Mac n cheese. Fries are good but nothing special, so I'd go with exploring something different! Staff are all really nice but there to get work done and aren't super interested in chatting, which is fine with me since we are there to eat, not talk! They are a popping place in north Augusta, so at peak hours there are long lines. Best to shoot for a weird time if you want to get your food immediately! Ambiance is what you'd expect from a good ole South Carolina bbq joint. Pretty simple, everything is a tad sticky, and there are the obligatory taxidermied animals in the dining room. I have found my BBQ go to place for Augusta, GA. The experience was top notch from start to finish. This is an order at counter restaurant. We were looking at the menu trying to decide what to order when an employee approached us and helped us decided. Maybe we have the same taste in food but we were exceptionally happy with our choices. We decided to share a 4 meat platter with ribs, brisket, burnt ends, and chopped pork. I think I found hog heaven with every bite. We were so pleased with the full experience. We ordered quickly, paid quickly, seated quickly, got our food quickly, and enjoyed our meal!! If I return to Augusta, I know one of my stops will be to return here for another great meal. The food here is really good. The bunt ends are my favorite and are good. Coming from Vegas where we have all types of bbq (Kansas City, Memphis, St. Louis, etc.), the bbq here fills the void. The people are really nice. They also have homemade desserts. I haven't tried them yet, but they look really good. Spending time in Kansas City, and eating nothing but burnt ends, the ones here remind of the ones in Kansas City. Can't go wrong with anything on their menu. I usually get the two meat combo. I really wanted to like this place. I'm from a barbecue desert (California) and I have experienced most barbecue styles in the native lands: Texas, Kansas City, St. Louis, etc. This is my first taste of Carolina barbecue in South Carolina. I know Carolina barbecue is pork and mustard based. I tried the "BBQ" (chopped pork), brisket, and turkey. The pork was was just not very interesting--even slightly boring. The brisket was moist but just missing something, and the turkey was as dry as the Mojave Desert. The sauces were both vinegar based. The mustard sauce was ok--a different touch to popular tomato based sauces, slightly sour with a touch of sweet and heat. The red "Georgia sauce" was just plain bad and tasted like vinegar with red food coloring. Once again I was pulled to this place based on the reviews but what I got was a disappointment. read more

I've now been to BBQ barn multiple times while working close by. First I would like to say the customer service and speedy order prep is awesome! The bbq sauces they have are some of the worse I've ever had. It's almost like they are just putting something out there just to have it. I would also note that the pulled pork by itself is very flavorful and delicious! The hash and rice is almost inedible.... Dont know what they are thinking. I tried the Brisket and for the price you pay...you get such a small amount. Then it looks and tastes as if it's been stored in the juices to keep from drying out the meat. The bark is not flavorful and the meat itself is discolored on the inside as if it was sitting or kept warm all long time. I've had better brisket at buckies and that's not saying much. I think a real QC person on the staff would benefit a better product. Will not return for more. read more

I was in town visiting family. They know I have a serious BBQ addiction so they did takeout with the BBQ barn. My cousin asked for my input and he chose a pulled pork plate for me. He made a marvelous choice! The pulled pork checked all of the boxes for what I look for in pulled pork - tasty seasoning, tender and easy to chew, and mixes well with sauces. I do not know how many sauces they have but I sampled the mustard, hot mustard, vinegar, and hot vinegar. All were marvelous! I liked the hot mustard the most as it was just a solid mustard BBQ sauce with black pepper added to it. My cousin picked out Hash and rice for one of sides. I had never had it and it must be a regional thing in the Augusta area or for South Carolina. The hash was like a thick stew sitting on top of rice. I really enjoyed it. So as w walked in there was a disgruntled staff member dropping F-Boms on their phone about their boss sitting on the outside picnic table. Ok fine, but that goes in the office. I ordered the large brisket plate - it was not large Think they confused brisket and roast. The bbq sauces were vinegar based and the consistency of water. The BBQ Barn is a great place to grab a delicious over the counter meal. The ambiance is old school, the wood interior speaks to a much simpler time where there weren't as many rules in dining as there are now. On this visit I was lucky to hit the Friday night special of half a rack of ribs, with two sides, collard greens and mac and cheese. The ribs were a bit fatty, but super good. This is a place that does ribs right. The collard greens we delicious with a slight vinegar crunch and the mac and cheese of course was spot on. Nice and cheesy. As an added bonus, I found about half a dozen fresh and hot, hush puppies under the rack of ribs that was a nice surprise. I'd love to go back to try some of their other items. I'm certain my $20 would have been better spent if I had just set it on fire. I ordered the two meat sampler special two meats, two sides and drink. Plus a slice of strawberry cake. The fries cold and old even though I asked for hot ones, the ribs was barely 3 bones and the driest half chicken ever. The only thing worth chewing without needing a gallon of water was the baked beans. The lemonade was sugar water with lemon juice. The cake was even dry. Jody was out on July 2 at noon working the car line orders. The line was not too long. I imagine it will get longer as people get off for the long weekend. They had everything. Ribs, chicken and pork were what we bought, in bulk. Also tried sides of Mac n cheese, potato salad, slaw, and green beans. Soft golden bread and various milder sauces added to my order gratis. Also picked up 2 strawberry shortcakes and 2 classic chocolate cakes, by the slice. My thoughts? Everything was very delicious-ribs juicy and flavorful. Chicken and pork solid and not too salty. This Q is done right and if you use their sauces in moderation as a condiment and don't drown the meat, you will be in for a real treat. Sides are all basic and consistent. Bread was fantastic. Desserts are a must. And value. It was $80 for all that food. Packaged very well for the car. Saturday evening dilemma... What to eat for dinner?! BBQ was the collective call. A quick Yelp search and we came across BBQ Barn; so BBQ Barn it was! Super polite and friendly staff. We felt welcome as soon as we walked in. I was craving brisket so it didn't take me too long to zero in on the Brisket plate. I decided on the small plate because it came with 1-side and I wasn't looking to over-eat. Not even 10-minutes passed before they were calling my order number. The owner brought over my small brisket plate and because of my over enthusiasm to sample authentic southern style brisket, I failed to snap a picture... So yes, my small plate picture that I posted looks a little incomplete; I completely spaced on taking a picture of it after it was brought over to me. The brisket was good, well seasoned and tender. I had about 4-slices of brisket on my plate, 3 of the 4-slices were very moist and flavorful. Only 1-slice was not as moist as the other 3-slices, as it was about 6:15pm I just chalked that up to being late in the day and it's impossible to have smoked brisket remain super moist throughout the day. For my small brisket plate and small beverage, my meal was under $16. An incredible deal for authentic southern BBQ... I would highly recommend BBQ Barn, you won't be disappointed! read more
