The restaurant is located in a beautiful plaza, the interior is well decorated and reflective of the time honored reputation of the restaurant. I stopped in on a day they're typically closed, but they were hosting a event, and we're taking guest post event. David went out of his way to accommodate us for a post dance class date with our little. What an incredible experience! We had not been here in years. While this is not a kid - restaurant, I will say they do have a high chair. Everything was perfect: the ribeye, the salad, the potatoes, and even the bread were all absolutely amazing. Definitely on the pricey side. If you looking for a place to wine and dine, and feel like you are rich, this is your place. Started off with a sazerac (which is their oldest bourbon drink) and Rockefeller oysters. The Sazerac is definitely a strong drink which paired well with the oysters. As for the main meal........ Grilled Sea Bass Charleston with Cast Iron Sea Scallops and brocollini! Man this fish was so smooth and lightly creamy, it just melted on your tongue. So flavorful and filling. Squeezed a little of the lemon on top and it was perfection. Like I said earlier, this place is on the pricey side. For me alone, it cost me $170. That was me not asking for more bourbon. The scallops were extra on the dish to be added, so that brought the price higher too. All in all, a great experience and even better server. If I would come back to this location, it would solely be to have Warren as our server. He made the night so much better for the experience by being himself. He made the night so special, even though we were celebrating a birthday, we literally closed the place down. He opened up in conversation and the rest was history. We ended up leaving an hour and a half after they scheduled to close because he wanted to ensure we were taken care of. Went to calverts today for a group event. It was our second time coming here and I recall it being a bit better a few months ago. Overall give it just below 3.5/5. Appetizers (4/5): For appetizers we had the crab cakes, grilled mushrooms with cheese, shrimp cocktail, and bread/butter. The shrimp were all very plump and tender. Couldn't be much better. The grilled mushrooms were juicy and had a mild taste with the melted cheese. Our group really enjoyed them. The crab cakes were incredibly soft and flaky. The rolls were soft and had a sweet taste and went well with the butter. Solid start Salad (2.5/5): The house salad was pretty average. Very thick cream sauce over standard lettuce. The shredded carrots still tasted a bit frozen. Craisins helped it out but overall it was a letdown compared to the appetizers. Filet mignon (2.5/5): I ordered a medium rare steak but got a well done steak (pictured below). It was quite dry and under-seasoned. The potato gratin it came in was very smooth and well cooked, but it was not enough to salvage a steak entree which should at baseline be prepared at the requested level of doneness. It was beyond overcooked. Chocolate roulade (4.5/5): very light textured chocolate mousse cake. The frosting was not overwhelmingly sweet and there were tiny little flecks (possibly chocolate or cookie crumbs?) that added a very nice gritty texture to contrast the soft cake. Great dessert item and will get it again in the future. Service was excellent, no issues there. Appetizers and dessert were by far the highlight of the meal. We will definitely return as a group in the future, and I hope that the steak is cooked at the desired doneness at that time. At $40 for a filet mignon, I really expect it to be cooked at the requested temperature. A decent restaurant otherwise. read more

Ordered Filet as did several of the others in our party, it was the worst steak I have ever had. Tasted sour, almost spoiled. Potato's over cooked. 3 carrots on the side were the only thing I finished and I was starving and love steak. The chocolate desert tasted like pure sugar. Very disappointed. Had made reservation and dined here with my parents Friday at 5:30pm for my parents 50th wedding anniversary. Several other guest came in and said that it was their anniversary too. Hadn't eaten here in years, but with the excellent service, food, and atmosphere I highly recommend coming for special occasions. This is a very quiet and intimate setting, but you don't have to whisper. Our waiter talked normally and guests did too, which surprised me for a minute.. but was nice that we could talk freely and my 9 year old that came to dinner was on very good behavior. Now onto the food. They do have early bird menus which is why we came early, but the specials sounded good we ordered those and off the regular menu. My dad had seafood sampler, mom had the veal and me and my boy both had steaks; he had fries, I had steak/seafood combo with potato. All of our dinners were terrific. Our bill for the four of us sound that $145 mark minus tip, but felt that the food, service and atmosphere totally warranted that and it being for my parents, was a great evening. I'm very sad to write this review, but felt we had to. We have always, always loved Calverts and have been going for years, but the last couple of times we have been have been disappointing. This was our 38th Anniversary so we wanted it to be special. The wait staff was extremely nice, as always, but the food was not. We ordered stuffed mushrooms and seafood bisque appetizers. The mushrooms were not per their usual mushrooms. They were two giant mushrooms stuffed with some kind of sausage mixture topped with a thick white sauce. I was used to the smaller button mushrooms stuffed with a seafood mixture topped with a white wine sauce, but was told they were never made that way. ? My husband had the bisque, and aside from it being tepid, it was pretty good. Our entrees were a disaster. I ordered the salmon over shrimp scampi pasta. The salmon was dry and flavorless. Thank goodness we were given two halves of a lemon because it took all of the juice from that whole lemon and a lot of salt to make the salmon edible. I received maybe one cooking spoonful of angel hair pasta and 5 undercooked shrimp that had a HINT of garlic, and not much of anything else. My husband's lobster was the size of a ping-pong ball in the shell of a large lobster tail. It was over-cooked, dry and small. His potatoes au gratin where 5 thick raw slices of white potato with white sauce on them. The best thing on our plates were the asparagus and carrots. I don't know what's going on over there these days but it seems there's nobody there minding the store. And that makes me very sad. They have been the number one restaurant in this town for years. The salads were terrible...a sad pile of lettuce, two tiny slices of tomato and a glob of dressing. Wholly unappetizing. Both entrees showed up lukewarm, the surf and turf was unseasoned bits of filet with overcooked angel hair pasta in a terrible, nutmeg heavy cream sauce and the fish was slightly better - plopped on mashed potatoes. We absolutely love everything about this establishment. The food is phenomenal! Hartford Chardonnay is my go to-super light and goes great with any seafood. Sea Sun Pinot noir is also absolutely delicious and goes down so smoothly. I had the lobster stuffed with scallops and shrimp!to die for!! I'm a little conflicted on this place. The service was excellent, maybe some of the best I've had in Augusta. That being said, good service wouldn't make me come back here or be able to recommend it to others. I was full from a big lunch so wanted to try something small and decided on a soup and salad. I tried the sweet potato soup ($8) and assumed for the price that it would be a bowl and it was not. I think that's a little steep for a cup of soup. I've paid that before for lobster bisque, but I think I chalked that up to it having seafood in it. The salad was forgettable and think it could have been served at any hole-in-the-wall type place and was $6, which again I believed was a little steep. For my "light" dinner and a cocktail with gratuity because I came with a book club (ten people), it ended up being $30. I just don't think the prices are reasonable at all and while I understand it's in Surrey Center, I still don't agree with the prices. $12 for one crab cake? Some of the other dishes that people in my group ordered looked good, but I don't think I have any desire to return. read more

Calvert's is a higher end, star restaurant here in Augusta. I came here for dinner (about 15-20 people total), held in a private room, and highly enjoyed both the food and the service. If you have a large party that needs accommodations, this restaurant will be a great place to host! We started with a buffet of appetizers, my favorites of which were the salmon with capers, and the stuffed mushrooms. For the entree, I had their signature beef filet - which was hands down, delicious. For the dessert, I had the flourless chocolate cake. Nice dim ambient lighting and quaint euro bistro type atmosphere. I give a 5 star because they have very tidy clean restrooms. I was coming with a group of 40+. Service was friendly and accommodated the best setting up for extra seats , taking orders and delivering food. 2 servers handled our group and did the best they could with out mishaps. I also still love linen and silverware with full table service. Out menu was a set prix fixed menu with 3 options. London broil, chicken Marsala or grilled salmon with crab. I tried all three. The beef was cooked to perfection med. rare and tasty with the mushrooms sauce. The chicken was moist and tasty and the salmon was cooked perfect and moist. I looked at the menu and want to come back. Appetizers run up into the $10 and entrees go into the $20's. I will be back. Don't know how I've missed you all these years. read more

The boy and I came here to test one of the nicer restaurants of Augusta. There are complimentary rolls with fruit spread and a crouton-like cracker plate with cheese. We started off with two glasses of house wine ($7 each), the stuffed mushrooms ($10) and seafood bisque ($7). The seafood bisque is an absolute must try. For entrees we ordered the sea bass ($35) which was good, and the duck ($26), cooked at medium, which was impressively flavorful. Pros: This place was very cute, in an elderly grandmother kind of way. The service was stellar; all our servers were very sweet. Cons: The chairs had wheels and the dining area where we were sitting reminded me of a nursing home. The food was good, but it wasn't worth the price. Overall, a positive experience, but I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because with a tab greater than $100 for two people, it's should be the best darn sea bass I've ever tasted. read more

We've been to Surrey Center 50 times and had never noticed this hidden gem! If it wasn't for Trip Advisor we may have never learned about it. We made a last minute reservation for 5:30 and to our delight this is right in the middle of the Sunset dinner special. My husband ordered seafood crepes from the special oral menu and I had the rack of lamb off the regular menu. They were both delicious but my lamb was really exceptional. It was our 6th anniversary and the waiter brought out a special dessert to celebrate. We will definitely be back for our next big celebration. We didn't have our kids with us but we did see that they had a high chair but this place is perfect for a night when you have a sitter. read more

I can't believe that anyone has yet to comment on what is the best restaurant in Augusta. Well, the best one I've eaten at in my 3+ years here, anyway. I went with a group of 6 of us, so I got to taste a variety of their appetizers and main dishes, and each one was fantastic, esp. the seafood bisque and the seafood-covered tenderloin. They offer a more affordable "Sunset Dinner for Two" which is an early dinner for 2 at less than $30, so I'll be sure to comment on that once I've tried it, as I assume it is off a more limited menu. read more

This was my second time and this place amazed me to the point that I must give them this review. The food was amazing and no question there. However, I'm always picky about Services wherever I go. This place is excellent in that categories. These ladies are super sweet and excel at what they're doing. First of all, they served me properly from appetizer to dessert. They paid attention to details. I asked for pinot and it was there in less than 2 minutes. I asked for steak sauce, they came out with the sauce. My steak was more rare than I wanted and they just gave me a new steak that was perfectly cooked. My colleagues and I were all happy by the end of the day, we did not want to leave the place, we stayed until they close. I will always come back here. Calvert's is an Augusta staple, but they seem to be coasting on their reputation. We held a family celebration with a large crowd recently, and while the service was very good - especially for such a big group - the food was unexceptional. Perfectly-cooked steaks were too dry; a basic sauce would have helped. Twice-baked potato was uninspired, asparagus and carrots seemed like an afterthought. The fish was mediocre; shrimp was overcooked. The beer menu is lame; would it hurt to add a few craft beers to the weak bottle-only selection? And what's up with no call-brand liquor? That's a little off-putting. The wine selection, at least, is decent. In short, the experience here used to be elegant and amazing. Now it's just pedestrian. It appears that a once-great restaurant is squatting on its laurels and needs a renewed effort to return to greatness in a market that is now far more competitive at their price point. read more
