We thought this place was just okay. It wasn't crowded on a Saturday night. There was a strange smell in the air and the service was nonexistent, with the waiters wordlessly picking up our order slip and delivering dishes. Chili the Garlic Tofu Lamen was the best thing we got - it was sweet, rich, and saucy with yummy Chinese broccoli. I was surprised by how flavorful and crunchy the tofu was! The Bulgogi Beef Dumplings were alright. The anise was interesting but didn't increase the depth of flavor. And the Pork Onion Buns had a good doughy exterior but there was space between the dough and the meat, which was sweet and not that juicy. Overall, these dishes were rather oily and heavy, and the meat was sweet instead of savory. Fantastic service with dishes flowing to the table! Really lovely help getting extras for our table. Meat options: I really enjoyed the braised beef lamen soup with the wide, chewy noodles and flavorful broth. Pork shrimp wonton in spicy sauce was so tasty, I really love to try this dish to see what their sauce is like and it was delish! Pork chives shrimp dumplings was also flavorful and went well with the sauce that you can make at the table with chili oil, vinegar, and soy sauce. Veg options: Steamed shitake buns were lacking a bit in flavor and a too much dough to filling ratio for me. Garlic string beans were delish and had a good texture to them! Sweet and sour cucumber was pretty heavy on the acid, but little bites went well with the meat dishes. Green onion pancake was crispy and I recommend dipping in the spicy sauce that comes with the wontons! Chili the garlic tofu rice noodle was way too saucy and didn't come with enough filler and noodles to sauce ratio. I'd probably opt for the lamen dishes over the rice noodle dishes. I went to get the signature menu for Seattle Restaurant week and the food was passable. On the plus side the service was prompt and quick despite a very busy and pretty packed restaurant. Part of the feast included sunflower shrimp which was decent but was lacking some texture. The stir fried green beans had a good amount of flavor but were slightly overcooked so they lacked a crunch. The sweet and sour cucumbers were pretty good! My favorite were their signature pork and onion buns. The filling was generous and juicy, the wrapper dough was thin and had a nice pan fry on the bottom. Not pictured were the chili oil wontons which were mediocre; I've had them at other similar restaurants that had better flavor. Towards the end of the meal we also got pork, shrimp, and leek dumplings that were under seasoned in addition to tofu lamen noodles that were kind of soggy and pretty oily. Overall the food was pretty mediocre and I don't see myself coming back anytime soon. But maybe due to demand during restaurant week it is possible their quality diminished slightly. read more

I was surprised that it was served cold but packed a bunch of flavor. The dumplings and buns I wasn't too much a fan of ordered the bulgogi beef and pork and shrimp dumplings, which tasted good but didn't want me wanting more. However, I couldn't finish my food! I really loved the vegan lamen noodle soup. Delicious texture! I love all of the toppings. I really want to try more vegan options, but there are so many things to order off their menu. Overall, it was a positive experience and I loved how fast the food came out. Between Din Tai Fung (DTF), Dough Zone (DZ) and Dumpling The Noodle (DTN), which all serve a pick and choose pseudo-dim sun experience, I would say that DTN is definitely the more local, and casual experience between the three. I would recommend the signature bao and the wontons! The dumplings were also good - they felt less mass made gyoza like and they felt more like homemade dumplings. The noodles were also pretty different from the typical dan dan mian that is accompanied with these restaurants. I would absolutely go again. The service was similar to DTf And DZ and it can be somewhat busy but I think it is definitely worth it to try and make that trip to Wallingford. read more

We were not fans of the vegan wontons because of the mushier texture. Assuming its potato based. Wasn't for us so we won't be ordering again. - Pork chives Shrimp Dumplings : super yummy! We were lucky enough to stop here for Seattle restaurant week and sample many of their dishes. Given the name, I expected to love the dumplings the best but it was actually the most impressed by the Chili The Tofu Lamen and the Sichuan Dry-fried Green Beans. I would happily return solely for those two items. The dumplings and other items, however, were comparable to other popular dumpling restaurants in the area. I'm docking a star because service was lacking. We had a reservation and still had to wait for a table after checking in with the host. After placing our order, we only received two dishes and it took a while to flag down a waiter for the rest of the meal which wasn't taken down correctly.
