We loved it! Great decision to stop here for food! I got a beef dish with ginger and cilantro! Whew spicy but fresh and flavorful. I really loved my friends sweet and sour chicken, yum!
Came here for a birthday dinner and they had one huge table to accommodate huge groups which we were able to take as it was pretty slow in the restaurant otherwise. Not many restaurants i know here do 松鼠鱼 and i haven't had it much outside of china so i was stoked to be able to order it here. Great service and solid flavors
We wanted to eat dry pot in Seattle and this place definitely did not disappoint! We went around opening time and it was clean and the service was fast. We ordered the customer dry pot with cumin, soup duck radish soup, and the bean jelly. The bean jelly noodle is def a must try. It's a cold appetizer and very yummy. The sour duck radish soup was very refreshing. The ingredients in the dry pot were clean and very fresh. Def a must try place if u are near UDUB.
The crispy tofu was very good! It wasn't very spicy despite the little pepper marks (though I'm not sure what spice level he gave me when I said "I really like spicy food" so perhaps it wasn't full spicy?). The menu actually has lots of vegetarian options but they may not all be marked so you might have to ask questions. They actually have several vegan options too. The service was prompt when I needed something as long as I got his attention (I was one of the only people there and he was working on other restaurant tasks in his downtime). The seats were decently comfy and it was nice and cool in the AC. Would definitely come back for the tofu again and ask them to make it spicier.

Food: + deep fried chicken with dried chili pepper - so addicting! The flavor was delicious and the chicken was cooked nicely! +mapo tofu - honestly had higher expectations. To our disappointment the mapo tofu was pretty bland. +eggplant in hot garlic sauce - this was delicious and was my husband's favorite! + chinese ice jelly with brown sugar - a delicious way to end our meal! So refreshing! Overall, really love this spot, minus the mapo tofu! Would definitely come back to try their other items!
Came on a weekday after work, and we were seated immediately. The food was pretty authentic with rich flavors and spices. We enjoyed all 3 dishes. The restaurant is spacious and clean. Would definitely return again.

Delicious Szechuan food and filled with UW international students. So you know it's legit. My friend and I came here on a Thursday night and there was always a constant stream of students coming in or getting take out. Luckily, service was quick and efficient here! We got: Eggplant stir fry (~$15) - plump and juicy eggplant shallow fried in a sweet spicy chili sauce. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. It's a flavor bomb and go so well over rice. You have to get this! Fried chicken with chilis (~$21) - we opted for boneless. Which is the right move as half the dish is just chilis. So if there were bones, there wouldn't be much chicken. It's deceivingly spicy and a bit numb-y from the Szechuan pepper powder. Great new Chinese spot on the Ave and right across from a boba shop! So if the spice is too much, grab a boba next door.

There's isn't much of a social media presence for Chuan House outside of Yelp, which sparked my curiosity. Walking in, I was pleasantly surprised at how big it is, with 2 groups already dining in for an early lunch. Chuan House has an extensive menu, available by QR code. My partner immediately eyes that the Potato Dry Pot comes with a free milk tea so started with that. There is a good reason it comes with it, when you pause from eating it, you can feel the heat linger in your mouth. Don't let that scare you, as it's a very delicious dish. I enjoy the texture of the potatoes, they have that balance of firm yet fluffy. Of course we had to get their signature dish, Deep Fried Chicken with Dried Chili Pepper. They do have the option of ordering boneless, which I recommend if you're not a fan of finding surprise tiny bones. I can see why this is a popular dish, it has the perfect crisp and juicy! You do get a little bit of heat, but it doesn't compare to the Potato Dry Pot. Lastly, we had the Dandan Noodles. I love the texture of the noodles but I thought it was too saucy from what I'm used to from places like DTF and Dough Zone. I'm happy to have found this gem in the U-District and I look forward to exploring more of their menu.
A great little restaurant in the heart of University District. My family and I were visiting from the Bay Area and were leery of finding an authentic Szechuan restaurant here in Seattle let alone one that had many traditional dishes. Here in the middle of University Way, we found this unassuming place offering authentic traditional Szechuan dishes. The restaurant diners were mostly young Chinese students. We are vegetarians and the restaurant had amazing offerings. The mapo tofu had just the right amount of numbing peppers without killing any taste buds. The cold jelly noodles luckily did not have any numbing spices so that was a very pleasant treat. They also offered one of my favorite dish, fried pumpkins with salted egg yolks. If a restaurant can make tasty vegetarian dishes, I can bet their meat dishes would be tasty as well.
Red spicy food. This is the place. Especially for MaLa spiciness. Which is spicy to the tongue num situation. But don't be scared about that. They can tone in down to the spicy level that you can take. We got my favorite deep fried chicken in dry chili. I feel that the coating is a bit thick. We also got spicy intestines. This dish I like. We also got salt and pepper chicken for a dish that not spice. For the appetizer we got the wonton in chili oil. This is just ok. We also got marinated slice beef brisket and tendon in spicy sauce. I think dish needs to be less veggie. Overall is good. Service is average. Ambient is good. read more

Overall, Chuan House is a solid spot for Sichuan food. The deep fried fish filet with salt and pepper was my favorite dish. The breading was lighter than expected, which I appreciated, and the fish was flavorful and moist inside. We also got the cauliflower dry pot and the boiled beef in chili sauce. I liked the bean sprouts mixed into the cauliflower dish, and the spice level was manageable. The boiled beef came with a huge amount of chili oil, but the beef itself was really tender and easy to chew. I've never seen this dish before so I was interested when I saw it on the menu. The restaurant itself is spacious with tons of seating, and service was really quick and efficient. I've always seen people go into this place so I'm glad I finally got to check it out! read more
Grabbed lunch here with a work group. The menu was definitely different from what I've have before, but felt very authentic. I enjoyed the kung pao chicken, even with the excess of nuts. We had found a hair in one of our dishes and the other tasted soapy (to me at least) so I wasn't the biggest fan but I get why people like it! read more

I came here with my friend after bouldering and I found the dining area to be clean and inviting. We were welcomed in by a friendly server and told to order via the QR code. We ordered the eggplant, the boiled snakehead fish in hot and spicy sauce, and the hot and sour cabbage. I thought the portions were above average for the prices. Taste was good, but not as authentic as some of the restaurants in Chinatown. The eggplant and cabbage dishes were sweeter than they should be. Overall, I had a good time and I'll definitely be back. We came here to celebrate one of my students' graduation, an early graduation lunch. She wanted to try Chinese food and I chose this location based on recommendation from other Chinese colleagues. This place is very quiet during lunch hour, we were the only group. There are a good number of to-go orders. It looks like the place is recently renovated, clean and new. We ordered three entrees and they were all very tasty and authentic, in my opinion. The food came out pretty quick. We tried dry pot chicken, hot and sour cabbage, and shredded pork in garlic sauce. All well flavored and not too overwhelming. My student is from the Midwest and she really loved the food too. I will probably come back again. I would recommend coming during lunch hour if you want to avoid a crowd. The owner said it tends to get busy for dinner. read more
Been wanting to try Chuan House ever since I saw it's sign go up on the Ave! Every time I would pass by this place I would look at see other people eat delicious looking food, so one day with my boyfriend we decided to eat here. Chuan House is spicy and they give pretty big portions too. I got the hot and sour chicken gizzards and boiled hot and spicy fish. Both dishes were extremely good and for how much you're paying I would say it's worth it! Make sure to get a bowl of rice to eat with these dishes your stomach will thank you later! Highly recommend! Looking at the squirrel fish with the sweet and sour sauce to eat next time! read more
tl;dr - slow service, delicious dry pots, clean and bright Overall the food was good besides one dish. I would give them another try to see if the disappointing service was a fluke. Spicy Fried Chicken - Crispy with plenty of flavor. I thought it had a touch too much breading but was still tasty. Fish and Fried Tofu Dry Pot - Deliciously crispy with good flavor and spiciness. Chef's Special Green beans - Very disappointing. They were stringy and overcooked. I wouldn't order again The service was very mixed for me. We were seated very quickly, however, there was an issue with out digital ordering and ended up manually ordering after almost waiting over 10 minutes for help. The dishes also took a very long time to be served. The green beans came out first after 10 minutes, but the remainder took an extra 20 minutes to be served. The servers were nice, but It seemed like they were really understaffed because it looked like there were only 2 or 3 front staff taking care of seating, serving, and cleanup. read more
Yum! Compared to other sit down Sichuanese places on the Ave, Chuan House definitely takes the cake for best environment and interior. The furnishing is very clean and modern, and there's a ton of space for customers so the waits aren't bad at all. Service is straightforward m, friendly and efficient, so I have nothing to call out. The food is delicious! It's not as spicy as other places can get, but you can tell they have a focus on texture and making sure everything is cooked to the right tenderness. The dry pot was so tasty and the pepper ratio wasn't obnoxious like these things can be, and the green beans were so crispy and a great palate cleanser. Recommend coming in larger groups of around 4 for the sake of sitting comfortably! read more

An amazing place to go when you're craving spice (and the numbing of the Sichuan peppercorn). That being said, unless you're a literal spice god, order a side of rice. I got their fish and tofu dry pot and it was amazing! The service staff are so friendly, they kept refilling my water as it got exhausted. Love spice but it makes me thirsty. It's a beautiful interior, and a great place to hang out or meet friends! read more

So glad we decided to stop by here. The Deep Fred Chicken with Dried Chili Pepper & Stir Chef's Special Stir-fried Green Bean were both really good. My partner and I shared these dishes with a bowl of rice and it was a good amount of food. There was a lot of chili that makes the chicken dish look like a lot, but it's a good amount. It's not overly crispy, so it won't cut your mouth. The green beans with pepper and garlic was great read more

We ordered the fried mini buns as an appetizer and it was very sweet and tasty with the condensed milk on the side. The deep fried chicken with dried chili pepper was very tasty and had that numbing feel, though a little expensive at around $19.99. The honey walnut shrimp, however, was a small portion for its price and had an interesting taste. It didn't taste like how it usually does at other places like dim sum and was oddly too sweet? I'm not quite sure but it's not something I would order again. The service was quick but we ate around 4pm so there was almost no one else there. Overall, will definitely come back for the fried chicken, but only once in a while because it's expensive read more

This place is a hidden gem on University Street. It's super modern on the inside, with clean lines and wall designs. I've been here twice already and it's a great place to take visiting parents for authentic sichuan food or go with your buds on a weeknight because this place does family style right. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but would recommend the boiled numb fish and deep fried chicken. Don't go too hard or your stomach will leave you some feedback the next day. I got to chat with the owner of the place who waited our table. Yang Yang is kind and a boss--let's support her and the beginnings of her restaurant! read more

I love the Ave with all my heart. There are so many delicious and fairly priced Thai and Korean places. However, I have never had great Chinese/Sichuanese food on the Ave that doesn't cost a fortune and finally Chuan House changed that! Starting with the food, in short, it's absolutely amazing :) The portion is great and it's really authentic! If you don't know what to get, you could never go wrong with fried chicken with chili and stir fried green beans!! The bite-sized chicken is deep fried to perfection and goes so perfectly with white rice. It is spicy (I mean, it's Sichuanese after all), and it is addictive!! The two of us ended up spending about $25 per person with our drinks and had some leftovers. Service is also pretty good and they do get busy during meal time. I've also ordered takeouts from here and it's delicious as usual:) Overall highly recommend! read more
We didn't recognize this place as we walked by and realized it's a new restaurant. The restaurant had quite a few people dining in, and we quickly gravitated inside. For around $37, we ordered the deep fried chicken with chili peppers and hot braised beef noodle soup. Both were spicy dishes, so prepare accordingly. :) When the food came out, we were pleasantly surprised by the big portion sizes. The beef noodle soup had a very flavorful spiciness to it. You can tell they make the noodles by hand by the taste. The beef was perfectly braised as well. The chicken dish was so crunchy and tasty. The peppers gave the chicken a nice kick. We ended up clearing the plates quickly and even had some to take home for tonight's dinner. read more
