Menu for social hour

There's a certain kind of place that doesn't just serve food it sets a tone the second you walk in. Doris Metropolitan is exactly that. Dimly lit, dialed in, and dressed to the nines the kind of room that makes you sit up a little straighter without even realizing it. We came in during happy hour and kept it simple -- just a run of appetizers. But here's the thing: "simple" doesn't mean small. The portions were generous, almost deceptive. The burger alone? Easily big enough to split between two people, and plenty of couples and families around us were doing exactly that. It wasn't just bar food filler it had weight, substance, and intention. Across the board, the food was good satisfying, well-executed, and matched the price point perfectly. Nothing felt overpriced, nothing felt like a miss. For a place that looks this upscale, the happy hour pricing is surprisingly grounded, which makes the whole experience feel like you're getting away with something. What really sticks with you, though, is the atmosphere. It's beautiful without trying too hard, polished but still warm. The kind of place where you could just as easily have a quiet date night as you could celebrate something big. It may not have been a full deep dive into the menu this time, but based on what we had, Doris Metropolitan knows exactly what it's doing and it does it with style. A genuinely great experience from start to finish.

If you're into fine dining, don't miss Doris Metropolitan! Great service-ambiance valet, convenient location. Homemade bread was wonderful. Tomahawk Steaks cooked to perfection, all sides delicious, good selection of wine and spirits. Only con is some of the seating is tight. Be prepared to be treated like royalty here! You are in for an all around treat!

Never disappointed! I have done a few reviews about Doris Metropolitan, because my experience here is always the best. From beginning to end, their staff makes sure you have absolutely the best time! I will always get the Octopus dish because is unbeatable, but this time I also tried their bone marrow, one of my favorite food and it's not always available at other places. Come here for a great time, a wonderful experience and the best food. Classy, contemporary and elegant, the perfect vibe for a date or a celebration.

Great service and atmosphere. Staff were welcoming and helpful. We had a tomahawk to share for 4 and it was perfect. We really enjoyed the desserts as well.

This was the final stop of our fancy Houston foodie trip. We had a reservation for a Friday night and the restaurant was full. This is definitely one of those spots you go for a special occasion, company event, or if you have extra dollars to blow to wine and dine real fine. Personally, we were there for a friends birthday and went all out. This restaurant is luxe with rolled toilettes and mouth wash in the bathroom. We jumped in with an order of espresso martinis and the caviar tower. The caviar was divine, served on a beautiful platter with blinis, lemon zest, pickled onions, fruits, and crème fraiche. It wasn't long until the full table was doing caviar bumps. We couldn't get enough of it. Other standout appetizers included the bread plate, octopus, heirloom tomato salad, fattoush, Jerusalem salad, tuna tartare, and artichokes. The focaccia on the bread plate was shaped like a bialy and was to die for. It was perfectly fresh and warm with an olive oil finish. The melt in your mouth tuna tartare was also a stand out. All of the dishes were made perfectly, it's hard to pick a favorite so it comes down to preference of taste. I prefer sour cream, tzatziki, and labneh in moderation, so the Jerusalem salad, fattoush, and octopus were smaller bites for me but still all around incredible and beautifully plated. I was a huge fan of the egg yolk in the tomato salad and how it provided a sunny runny pairing to the crisp acidity of the heirloom harvest. For our mains we ordered all of the meats. I had the rib eye cooked medium rare and loved the plated side of pink salt and black pepper where I was able add additional seasoning my steak to my liking. Around the table we ordered lamb chops, tenderloin, and the catch of the day (grouper). I wasn't able to try it all as we were swimming in food at this point but everyone was pleased. For our sides we had asparagus, truffle fries, and root puree. Everything was mouth watering and I could truly eat this meal again and again. Overall, I'd love to have another opportunity to visit a Doris Metropolitan. Thank you Houston!

Went with a friend for Social Hour (happy hour) on Wed night. Had the BEST experience! Started with free valet at entry making the parking a breeze. Then our bartender, Tony, was amazing! Made the best Doris Martini (only $10 during HH!) He made sure we always had water with our drinks and checked on us regularly - amazing customer service. We loved the bread service - get it! Then tried the Tenderloin Kebab... oooh my gosh, that was delicious! Then we were treated by a visit from Chef Michael who stopped by and talked to us about their beef and gave us some cool info about their wagyu (can't wait to try that next time!) Overall a 5 star experience and looking forward to coming back to try regular dinner service!

Great food, service and ambiance. Service was quick for a Friday night. Felipe and the team did a great job

Espresso Martini was maybe the best I have tasted yet.

Outstanding experience! Elegant, special occasion type of place. Kind of a modern European type of decor. The service is a non stop rotation of people, and everything arrived hot and on time. Everything on the menu is kind of pricey, but it feels worth it. I love eating "I can't make this at home" types of plates. Exotic ingredients, complex flavors, labor intensive preparations, etc. Dry aged steaks, cooked to perfection. The sea bass and prawns were grilled quite nicely also. The roasted cauliflower appetizer was phenomenal. The bread is prepared from scratch, in house, and served with wonderful choices of flavored oils and butters. I would gladly come back here on another special occasion.

Went here to celebrate Christmas with some friends and had an AMAZING time. Everything from the ambiance to the service to the food was impeccable. DRINKS: The winter harvest was super interesting. I never had anything that was initially acidic and pungent with a slight hint of sweetness at the end. I couldn't really taste the persimmon note in the drink though which I was most excited about, but overall worth a try if you are looking for something unique. (5.5/10) The spicy margarita was refreshing with hints of jalapeño and cucumber and overall very standard. (6/10) The bread plate was so fresh and warm and I loved the variety of bread and butters/dips that they give you. Typically, I would avoid the bread and save my stomach for the other appetizers but I couldn't pass this up. The focaccia was super fluffy and paired with the smoked paprika butter was divine. The caramelized onion and feta roll was definitely my favorite of the three and I would definitely reorder this next time I'm here. (8.5/10) FOOD: The tomato salad was delicious and kept me interested with the multiple preparations of tomato. The dish was super light while still being well seasoned and overall the acidity and freshness makes it a great dish to order to juxtapose the richer and creamier appetizers. (8.5/10) The beetroot was the most unique item I tried all night. The cheese and pistachio filling stuffed inside was extremely decadent and complimented the sweetness of the beetroot super well. I would recommend this dish to any cheese lover. (8/10) The beef carpaccio was very fresh and lightly seasoned to let the taste of the beef really shine through. It was very comparable to other versions of this dish I've tried. (7/10) The octopus was my favorite appetizer. The charred grilled red onion paired with the creamy tzatziki, smoked tomato salad, and perfectly cooked octopus was one of the best bites of the night. I would highly recommend this dish to those who are a fan of Mediterranean flavors as this dish provides and elevated version of them. (9.5/10) The ribeye steaks were cooked medium rare and were very tender. I really enjoyed the smoky taste of the meat, but other than that there wasn't much flavor. I topped a few of my steak pieces with the bone marrow and I felt as though it didn't really enhance the flavor of the meat but just made the bite a bit richer. I felt like it was a bit bland overall and just like most other stakes I've tried, but I will say I'm not a huge steak fan. (6/10) The shrimp skewer was definitely more up my alley and were perfectly grilled and seasoned. I enjoyed the grilled vegetables on the skewer as well. I would order 2 of these next time I come. (8.5/10) The truffle fries were pretty standard, but who doesn't love a good fry? (8/10) The carrots were very well cooked and I enjoyed the labneh base, though I would've wanted to taste more of the spice for the harissa glaze. (6/10) The greens weren't anything special either but I think it was a good side to have along with the fatty steak and enjoyed the variety of greens it included. (6/10) DESSERT: The chocolate in bond is one of the top 10 desserts I've ever tried and that is coming from someone that only likes dark chocolate. The chocolate is so rich and creamy without being too sweet. That paired with the whiskey toffee, banana brulee and whiskey ice cream was exquisite. Though it may sound overwhelming, the richness and slight bitterness of the chocolate and whiskey ice cream counterbalances the sweetness of the banana brulee and toffee. (9.5/10) The cheesecake was also yummy. I enjoyed their take on a cheesecake and thought the smooth and creamy cheesecake with the white chocolate cream and a hint of the passionfruit sauce was very delightful. I felt like the lemon macaroons seemed a bit over the top and out of place, but overall still a great dessert (8/10) The sesa brulee, though it was unique, the halva did not add any flavor to the dessert and if anything just made it more difficult to cut through. The crème brulee was standard, but I did enjoy the rose and raspberry cream and fresh raspberries. Not my favorite dish, but worth a try if you are looking for a spiced up cream brulee. (6.5/10) Overall, the dining experience was super enjoyable and that is all thanks to our server Juan who was very attentive and really took care of us all night. Would definitely come back for a table with him. The parking is street parking as well as complementary valet. I would recommend this place for those looking for an upscale option to celebrate a special occasion.

If you want to take your Monday back, finish the evening with Doris and extended hh hours on monday. This HH menu cannot be beat! We indulged in a burger, tomato salad, octopus skewer, tuna tartare. We opted to finish the meal with a bread basket instead of dessert to complement our happy hour wine. All of the options were great! I would say you can't go wrong with a thing on the menu! Service was also quite lovely! HH seating is only in the bar area . Mondays 5-9, tues-sat 5-7. Reservations recommended during peak hours. Complimentary valet available.

Is the restaurant dark inside? Looking for a steakhouse that is not dark.

Most all steakhouses these days are dark because of rich wood paneling. Looking for fun, lighted ambiance, great steak/food quality-try Juliette's on Westheimer.

What is the attire for this restaurant?

Definitely business cas/ or first date attire. I’d say that’s part of the fun, but there’s no rule against straight cas.

Immediately he took my menu and was like I'll be right back. And he proceeded to cross off any dish that I couldn't eat. I've never seen that before!! Usually servers will ask and be like ok cool I'll let you know what you can't eat. But the extra step of literally crossing it off was so thoughtful. Give him a raise!! I went for early dinner (5p) yesterday (random weekday) and it was not packed however once I left (around 630), every table was taken! Parking is solely valet so just be mindful of that. Food was SO delicious and every plate was unique and yum! This is what I had: - focaccia: kinda need it. It's oily (I mean it's focaccia. It's supposed to be) but you need a vessel for some of the dishes. It was very yummy!! - eggplant: just get it. The onion and balsamic flavors shine with this warm stew situation and it's SO good. - sweet potatoes: has labne and mint. Yum yum yum! - redfish: crisp top. Served w butternut squash. Def recommend - skirt steak: the chimichurri was chefs kiss. - cauliflower: the manchego and dill flavors were perfection Each dish was unique and packed with flavor! Ambiance is posh yet casual and relaxed. I will def return to try more dishes. Despite not eating pork and not drinking the wine (lol yes it's a wine bar), I had plenty to enjoy!!

We recently came here with friends wanting to check it out for the first time (even though they are…read moresadly closing in just a couple of weeks). I've had my fair share of Paulie's but never had the chance to come to Camerata...until now. I had been missing out for so long! We journeyed from white to red wines throughout the night. We started out with the Babylonstoren, a chenin blanc from South Africa. We then moved into pink (rose) with the Ana Beirut - a blend of cab sauv, syrah, and tempranillo grapes with a bit of skin contact to give the wine the pink color. Lastly we ordered the Guelbenzu - a red blend of tempranillo, cab sauv, syrah, and graciano. This full-bodied red was the absolute fan favorite of the table. Food options are on the light side: meat & cheese boards, bread, and small bites. We started out with the warm bread - while it's normally served with butter, there's an option to switch that out with olive oil & herbs which is what we did. We then went for the meat & cheese platter. We couldn't decide on which meats or cheeses, so we did the option of ordering all 8! This came with 4 delicious meats and 4 tasty cheeses (from Houston Dairymaids), also with crispy fava beans, olives, pickles, and bread. This was a good amount for our group of 4 to share. Elena was our server and she was absolutely OUTSTANDING. She vibed with us throughout the night and made sure that we were well-taken care of. I loved her energy along with her vast knowledge of wines. We got plenty of good recommendations from her during our time there. I'm super sad that Houston will be losing this gem permanently at the end of the year (and even more sad that I only discovered it in the last month of its existence). While I know that owner Paulie won't be moving this venture to a new spot, I do hope a descendant of Camerata manifests itself somewhere in Houston in the coming years.

It's part of the Paulie's Restaurant brands, but completely separate from the restaurant from what I could tell. Parking is a bit difficult, but after a bit of circling we were able to find a spot and make our way in what looked like the back entrance. It was very low key, and despite the sign, the door seemed almost hidden in that back little corner. The staff seemed to have a bit of a hipster vibe-- not unexpected given the Montrose area-- but were very friendly. They offered suggestions, but let us go with what we wanted to try. There's a food menu along with the drinks, but we were heading to the restaurant next door, so we passed on grabbing food. We ended up going with a couple of glasses of red and a couple of the specialty chocolates. My wife loved her salted caramel chocolate. I enjoyed my peppermint chocolate. For the glasses of wine, I've got better at home for bottles the same price as those glasses. My wife really enjoyed the vibe, but even if this place wasn't about to close down, I'm not sure I'd be coming back here often. It's just too hard to park.

I experienced this side of the business during the early phase of the Covid pandemic back in 2020. At the time, during lockdown, going to a wine bar or wine shop just wasn't top of mind. However, I had researched a Cabernet Franc (red wine) called Nicolas Reau Enlèvement Demandé Anjou [Vintage year: 2017]. Reau is kind of a rebel working in the Loire Valley of France who is interested in producing organic, biodynamic wines that are essentially closer to nature and processed differently--more artisanal, so to speak. I read about this wine and wanted to find a bottle locally, which wasn't an easy task as I recall. This is where Vinology comes in. I'm not much of a wine drinker, but had to have a bottle of this excellent wine. Like many people, I preferred to stay indoors during the early part of the pandemic and was kind of nervous about going out. When I called Vinology, I expressed my dilemma, and the guy on the other end of the phone came up with a great solution. He offered to deliver the bottle of wine I purchased to my address. I actually met him at the edge of the garage entrance to where I live. This was great, exceptional above and beyond service. I will always treasure and remember Vinology and plan to support the business more in the future. Hats off to the folks who own and run this wine establishment.

So I quickly messaged the instructor, knowing his classes were still going on, and not long after he messaged me back a picture and said are these your shoes and I'm so happy he did that because I don't trust this place to have cared, but to also have even looked after the class was over. He kindly left it with the staff there and let me know so I called and they were very rude and snappy to say "Yes OK?! we have them". I was unable to go that following week to pick them up so I went a little over a week later and I just wanted to call to confirm they were still there and the person again was very rude and simply said "YES WE ALREADY TOLD YOU A WEEK AGO THEY WERE HERE AND YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO HAVE COME TO PICK THEM UP SO IF YOU DIDN'T THEN THEY MUST STILL BE HERE!" and hung up. Since I was making the commute out there in traffic on a Friday with my daughter I decided to call back and ask that they confirm that they're still back there and the same gentleman answered, and very rudely said " LISTEN WE ARE NOT A SHOE STORE. SO NO WE ARE VERY BUSY!" and to no surprise been a surprise HUNG UP right after that. When I got there, there were tables open and the bartenders greeted me and clearly did not know. I was the same person that they had been very rudely talking to so I asked about the shoes he went and got them and I asked if he was the gentleman I had taught you on the phone and he couldn't even look me in the eye but still said "no". However, I recognized his voice and clearly knew it was him. This place is not only is very expensive for drinks and food, but the staff being the way they are no customer should ever be treated like this. I was not rude, was not angry, and yet was treated with such little respect. There are a bunch of other, really nice places with the same vibe and much nicer stuff that you can give your money to on a night out. **Update: completely disagree with your response, and the fact that you can't take ownership for the way that your staff talks to customers is exactly why I feel my review is very valid. I did not call 8 times. These were not house slippers. Also, some additional notes you made are not true.**
