We recently came here with friends wanting to check it out for the first time (even though they are sadly closing in just a couple of weeks). I've had my fair share of Paulie's but never had the chance to come to Camerata...until now. I had been missing out for so long! We journeyed from white to red wines throughout the night. We started out with the Babylonstoren, a chenin blanc from South Africa. We then moved into pink (rose) with the Ana Beirut - a blend of cab sauv, syrah, and tempranillo grapes with a bit of skin contact to give the wine the pink color. Lastly we ordered the Guelbenzu - a red blend of tempranillo, cab sauv, syrah, and graciano. This full-bodied red was the absolute fan favorite of the table. Food options are on the light side: meat & cheese boards, bread, and small bites. We started out with the warm bread - while it's normally served with butter, there's an option to switch that out with olive oil & herbs which is what we did. We then went for the meat & cheese platter. We couldn't decide on which meats or cheeses, so we did the option of ordering all 8! This came with 4 delicious meats and 4 tasty cheeses (from Houston Dairymaids), also with crispy fava beans, olives, pickles, and bread. This was a good amount for our group of 4 to share. Elena was our server and she was absolutely OUTSTANDING. She vibed with us throughout the night and made sure that we were well-taken care of. I loved her energy along with her vast knowledge of wines. We got plenty of good recommendations from her during our time there. I'm super sad that Houston will be losing this gem permanently at the end of the year (and even more sad that I only discovered it in the last month of its existence). While I know that owner Paulie won't be moving this venture to a new spot, I do hope a descendant of Camerata manifests itself somewhere in Houston in the coming years. read more

This is a nice little neighborhood wine bar located right off Westheimer, just down the road from Shepherd. It's part of the Paulie's Restaurant brands, but completely separate from the restaurant from what I could tell. Parking is a bit difficult, but after a bit of circling we were able to find a spot and make our way in what looked like the back entrance. It was very low key, and despite the sign, the door seemed almost hidden in that back little corner. The staff seemed to have a bit of a hipster vibe-- not unexpected given the Montrose area-- but were very friendly. They offered suggestions, but let us go with what we wanted to try. There's a food menu along with the drinks, but we were heading to the restaurant next door, so we passed on grabbing food. We ended up going with a couple of glasses of red and a couple of the specialty chocolates. My wife loved her salted caramel chocolate. I enjoyed my peppermint chocolate. For the glasses of wine, I've got better at home for bottles the same price as those glasses. My wife really enjoyed the vibe, but even if this place wasn't about to close down, I'm not sure I'd be coming back here often. It's just too hard to park. read more

I really liked this place and its sad that they are closing down, because the rent is too high in that area. Like y'all really don't want restaurant owners and food management to succeed. I'm talking to you developer. Anyways, this place was nice because it was this kind of after work, easy energy, low key bar. Low key in the sense that no one was there to impress anybody and everyone was their just to have a nice outing. A lot of people were in work/office wear there or just cozy clothing. They had some interesting food choices. I decided to order the salted caramel chocolate. Service was good. Wine selection, the only thing I could say is I wish they had like a Malbec or a sweeter wine. I know two opposite ends of the spectrum. I'm not sure if their wine menu was seasonal, but because they're closing soon, I'll never know. Regardless, you should still experience it, because if a wine/bar like that was near my neighborhood I would be their all the time. I mean one girl was there drinking wine, writing her novel. Houston truly has a gem in Camerata! This place is run by pros, and it shows. From the moment you step in until you leave, the service is absolutely impeccable. Impressive wine list, with helpful guidance from the staff. You can do smaller pours if you want to try more wines. Their meat and cheese board is a great way to nibble on something while sampling their wines. Really great space too - lots of couches and places to lounge, and to be honest feels a lot like chilling in someone's living room. Can see myself coming back regularly. We had a wonderful Friday night experience at Camerata. The manager recommended an Armenian wine that was a great choice to sip on throughout our night. We also ordered some delicious appetizers to pick on. I did not love their bread? But all the meats and cheeses were great. The atmosphere was spot on; mood lit and full without being too busy. Always love coming here. I do a few of their half glass pours, so I get to try a variety of wines. Their menu frequently rotates, and their bartenders are knowledgeable and make great recs. I like how they price it accordingly, so you are not upcharged for wanting a smaller portion. Their cheese and charcuterie board and chocolate flight are also phenomenal. Visited Camerata after finishing dinner with my fiance at Paulie's next door. We both had a red wine with dinner, so I wanted to continue drinking reds and my fiance switched to bubbles. Our bartender (who looked like a thinner version of Samwell Tarly from Game of Thrones) was very friendly, entertained my GoT comparison, and offered great selections of wine based on our mood. I got the Cabernet Franc and fiance ordered bubbly with floral hints. We both thoroughly enjoyed our wines. The vibe of the bar was great, not too overly crowded for a Friday night. The meat and cheese selections were excellent and they let us buy/ deliver one of our favorite Napa Sparkling wines - Schramsberg. It was our first time to Camerata at Paulie's today. We attended my nephew and niece's baby shower. This place was cozy and fit the group of about 50 adults and kids comfortably. Meg and John did a great job asking each guest if he/she wanted wine. They made sure dirty plates were gathered and generally made sure everything was good for us. I was debating which wine to drink and John and Meg was helpful to let me try the Tempranillo and Sparkling red wine to help me decide. I ended up liking the sparkling red wine. I enjoyed the meat and cheeses and the Italian sandwich. There was a good selection served for people to snack on. I would definitely come back again. read more

My husband was so enthused to try this wine lounge, as we are regulars at Paulie's. He read an article about their mocktail Rose so he was excited to take me here for Valentines to enjoy one prior to the event we had planned. Unfortunately that was for an event they did in the Fall and were no longer offering it. We were bumped but decided to stay and enjoy the vibe... VIBE: A quaint ambiance with low lighting and soft tunes from various genres. I even discovered a few new artist that I like. SERVICE: Was great. Our server was very well versed in all of the wines and charcuterie board options. She made suggestions based off of our palettes. LIBATIONS: My husband wanted Amici and she recommended a Malbec -- Cuvelier Los Andes, which turned out to be a great alternative option. Also, the selection changes daily so you can honestly make this place a regular stop and try a different wine each time. So neat! PROVISION: Prosciutto Chips...just fried goodness! Couple these with any of the other menu items. We opted for one cheese and one meat on the charcuterie board; I don't think you can go wrong with any of the choices. To start, service alone garners this Montrose gem a 5 star rating but it's just my luck that it didn't stop there. At the moment, America is still (sort of) participating in this pseudo-quarantine we have going on so I'll start by saying my friends and I were "outside" (oOooOoo scary, I know haha) but we had our masks & so did our wonderful Sommelier, Meagan; so, consider us safe this whole review lol. As soon as I showed up, I was greeted with a smile and given a glass of water and a menu. My friend, Marie, who frequents this wine bar was already sitting with another friend of mine and in front of them they had a charcuterie board with plenty of delectable snacks on it. So of course I ordered my own. You could pick 4 items for $25 or single items for $8 each. I went with the former and decided on the Schiacciata Piccante & Salame Etna for my meats (recommended by Meagan) and the Marinated Feta & Idiazabel for my cheeses (see menu for descriptions). Perfect choices. The board also came with a selection of sides, including olives, almonds, pickles and bread.. with honey. Mannnn it was delicious!! To top it off Meagan, being a Sommelier and all, sent me home with a bottle of dry Riesling for the wife after I asked for a recommendation on that (which she f**king loved)! Checked Camerata out on Valentine's Day and had a wonderful experience! We arrived at opening and were the first in for the evening. Alyse greeted us as we came in and was amazing throughout our visit! She was friendly, personable, funny and provided great recommendations. They offer half price for any bottles that were taken off the menu the night before which made for a great opportunity to try some of the more expensive glasses. It is a bit pricey but Alyse let us know they typically will have wines you won't easily find anywhere else. I loved the ambiance. The location is inconspicuous and once you walk in, it's dimly lit. I didn't notice if there was music playing. We didn't eat but they did have foo available. Great wine down, date night, girls night or in between spot! I will be back! read more

Came on a Tuesday night around 10:30pm, probably left around 12:30am. Clearly we were not in a hurry to leave! There were only a few other people there, so it was a nice intimate environment for conversation with friends over wine and snacks. They have bar seating, lounge seating on sofas, and tables with chairs as well as booths, so plenty of seating choice is available. We chose to lounge on some sofas, and it was really comfortable! Got some glasses of wine, cider, and a lemon aioli dip with kettle chips to munch on. Service was excellent as well. The server was happy to give recommendations and made sure our waters were always filled to the brim! He was consistently checking up on us as well. Overall, we had a great time here! I totally forgot just how great this spot is - hadn't been since pre-COVID days, and it was still just as great as I remembered (if not better)!!! I came here with my book thinking I would have dinner and a glass of wine at the bar. Things changed when my friend called and wanted to join - we decided to do a tasting flight Hal put together based on our personal taste preferences of bubbles and reds. The flight was absolutely phenomenal and filled with unique picks you definitely won't find on just any wine list. He was such a good sport to put it together, and he also challenged us to taste/think like a Somm and identify particular tasting notes and general regions where the wine came from. So we had a great time thinking through each one and learning more particular wine terminology. Hal is one of the highly knowledgeable and friendly staff; and with such a frequently rotating list coupled with the staff's great recommendations, you're guaranteed to find something unique and enjoyable. We've been wanting to check out this place for a while extremely happy we finally did. Our server Renny was outstanding. We arrived about 4:00 on a Saturday Renny informed us of the fabulous happy hour which consistent of the wine bottles opened the night before. You have a choice of half a glass or a regular pour. I explained to Renny my likes and dislikes and she was on point every time. We went with a meat and cheese board that we let Renny have total control over and once again she did not disappoint. I celebrated my 26th birthday here and at Paulie's next door. A friend and I arrived around 5:30 p.m. on a Thursday and were able to snag a couple couches up front while we waited for my party to trickle in. We had about 15 people total, and we were surprised to learn they would serve us from the loungey area, rather than us having to make multiple trips to the bar - very appreciated! Only 1 credit card is required per party, and since I arrived first they used mine. Our server ended up charging each glass on my tab (a little scary because I knew some of my lush lady friends have little or no wine knowledge and would not be able to keep track of what they were drinking and how many), and our server ensured me it would be easy to divide up the bill at the end. She was right! She did a great job remembering what everyone was drinking and suggesting wines for us to try based on our likes/dislikes, and we each only paid for what we had ordered. The few men in my party will drink wine at home but are too manly (or so they think) to be seen drinking it in public/in front of each other, so they were able to toss back a few local beers and talk about the upcoming football games.... Whatever makes them happy, I guess. Have an aperitif or two here before heading to dinner next door - you won't regret it. read more
