Before reading this, you should know that this is the first review I've written about anything. Ever. That in itself should give you a sense of how impressed I am with District Relocators. After combing the review sites for a decent moving service, I went along with District for my late September move, and am immensely satisfied with their performance. I have moved several times over the past decade and was skeptical about my first time actually hiring a team to move my things (as opposed to dragging my friends in on an early weekend morning). Plus, Yelp is spotted with the occasional horrible review. I nevertheless needed to move two apartments into one, where one was on the third floor with no elevator, and I'm frankly done with inconveniencing friends. On top of that, I'd been told just how much time and stress is saved by bringing in a moving team, so I gave District a shot. They weren't just on time; they called me early. I told them we had to start at the planned time only b/c I had a narrow move-in window at my new apartment, and they happily obliged, arriving instead right on time a little later. They even showed up with extra guys. We got started and I was immediately impressed by their speed and professionalism. Furniture and items I didn't even anticipate wrapping were quickly covered, taped, and hauled down two flights of narrow stairs. It was against my nature not to, so I helped out, plus I couple of friends (that I didn't mind inconveniencing) came and pitched in (minimally though, I let the pros do their thing). They expertly set up an assembly line of sorts at different points down hallways and stairwells, which helped the process progress smoothly. I've been told for years that I have a lot of stuff. I had a kitchen, dining room, living room, bedroom, and a massive walk-in closet's worth of stuff accumulated over the years, and they got it out and on the truck in an hour without mishap. Well, this night-stand/file cabinet hybrid that I'd taped and super-glued together 2 or 3 times since buying 7 years ago - and that my gf would've torched anyway - basically disintegrated in one guy's hands. I told him to forget about it and threw it away. It had a good run and an honorable/needed death. We then all drove to my girlfriend's studio in Silver Spring and got her stuff out fast as well. Our third stop was the new apartment. It had a loading dock, but the elevator serving my unit was down a very long hallway. On top of that, my unit was at the end of another hallway after exiting the elevator. I'd notified the movers beforehand that this may occur, and they were prepared with dolies and hand trucks. Having a crew on-hand became vital numerous time throughout the move, but especially with this distance from the apartment's loading dock to my unit's door. We got everything into the apt and that was it. At the end of the move, I sat down with the crew to handle payment. Their main guy (I have his name written down somewhere, but don't know where) asked to add more to the fees due to the long hallway, which I initially refused, but I then looked at it as a tip for my crew plus the extra guys they brought, and was happy to pay a little extra. I am still amazed at how quickly we cleared my apartment, and got my and my gf's belongings into the new place in about 4 hours. Plus everyone was cool and we joked the whole time. I hired District Relocators in June 2012 for a local move (NoVa to DC) and they were really fantastic. I contacted them with relatively short notice (less than a week). They responded with a quote within 24 hours and were able to schedule the move at my preferred time on a Saturday. Unlike other services I contacted, District's quote was pretty straightforward - an hourly rate for a truck and movers with a minimum number of hours and a flat fee for gas/etc. I took the 3 mover option for my 1 bedroom move and was very happy with it. On moving day, the truck was about 30 minutes late, but since I had the afternoon window, I was prepared for delays from whatever job they had in the morning. Although they didn't call before my scheduled time to let me know they would be late, they did call about 15 minutes before they arrived to let me know they were on the way. Others may feel differently, but I'm not going to hold that against them given that moves can be unpredictable. Once they arrived, the three moving guys were really friendly and were very responsive to all my questions and special requests. They were very efficient in my opinion - after surveying the scene, they quickly moved all the boxes into the hallway and then 2 guys shuttled boxes to the truck while the third guy wrapped all my furniture in blankets, plastic wrap, etc. They did a great job of packing and moving quickly but safely. All told, they moved my 1 bedroom apartment in under 4 hours door to door with no damage to any items. The final price was well below the estimates I received from other local moving companies. The only thing that I felt detracted from my experience at all was that during the few days between booking and the date of my move, they weren't all that responsive (via email) to questions that I had and they were tough to get on the phone. We were very impressed with District Relocators - Shawn, Lorenzo, James, and Andre handled our move. We moved from a 3-bedroom townhouse in Landover to a 3-bedroom house in the District, about 25 miles away. We contacted them relatively late in the game, after my husband made the mistake of reserving another company and THEN checking them out on Yelp. Amateur! Once I convinced him we shouldn't go with a 1-star mover, we were only a week away from our move date in July but DR gave us a 9am Saturday move time. On the day of the move, a team of 4 guys showed up at 9 right on the dot and got started right away. A scant 2.5 hours later, they were pulling away from the old house and on the way to the new house. Their website firmly states that they don't move any loose items or items bagged in plastic, and we had a lot of that (big plastic toys come standard with young children), which we packed in our own cars while they handled the boxed items and furniture. At the new place, one of the guys arrived first and while we waited for the truck and the rest of the crew to arrive, he graciously helped unload all that plastic stuff into the house. Once the truck arrived, the guys got started quickly, moving everything into our new house, even getting a long dresser through a narrow corner doorway without a nick. My husband and I helped empty the truck because we're on a budget and the faster the truck was unloaded, the less we would pay. It was really hot that day but there was no real downtime and the move was complete in under 5 hours. Under 5 hours for a 3 bedroom house!! When it came time for the bill, it was as expected, and there were no surprises. The whole thing was just over $600, which we considered very reasonable. We really just wanted some muscle and a big truck to help us move for a reasonable price - we did all the box packing ourselves. And we got exactly what we wanted! read more

I would not recommend this company to family or friends. My experience with them was extremely disappointing and stressful. The day before our scheduled move, I was informed that moving a four-bedroom home typically requires two trucks, and they wouldn't be able to transport all our items. This poor planning was unacceptable. Whether they conducted a survey of my home or not, the original quote clearly stated it was for a four-bedroom home, so the number of trucks required should have been correctly planned from the start. Additionally, I was charged for the hour it took the moving team to gain access to the base where I live. If this had been disclosed upfront, I would have chosen a different company. I specifically asked if there would be any issues accessing the base, and I was assured there wouldn't be. However, it took an hour, and I was charged for that time, which felt deceptive and unprofessional. The handling of my belongings was another major issue. The moving team placed my boxes into a large pre-made box, which they then put on a rolling stand to get off the truck. At one point, they overfilled this large box, causing all of my boxes to fall off the truck. As a result, a whole box of my kitchen dishes was broken. This level of carelessness is unacceptable for a professional moving company. Overall, this has been the most stressful move I have ever experienced, and I have moved many times due to my military service. I would never recommend this company to anyone or use their services again. I also plan to share this review on social media to warn others about my negative experience. read more

I am more than happy to give District Relocators my endorsement. First, let me say that I have moved within the Washington, DC metro area 3 times in the last 4 years so I have some experience with moving companies. Some have been better than others, but I would definitely rate District Relocators at or near the top. I'd spoken with one of the representatives via email and telephone several weeks before the move and confirmed my move date for the end of July. At the time, I did not have a fixed time because I had not yet reserved the elevator in my building, but he said that he would schedule me "tentatively" for 9am. As my move approached I began to worry since I had not heard from him for a couple weeks. Exactly one week prior to my move I received a call from "Jason" who inquired as to how my packing was going and whether I had been able to reserve the elevator, which I had. On moving day, the guys (3) showed up at my apartment on time and ready to go. They wrapped all of my furniture and were careful, but moved rather quickly. At the the conclusion of the move they unwrapped the furniture and disposed of the trash as well as some of the boxes that I was able to unpack while they were moving my furniture in. The price was reasonable; the total came to 440.00 (4hrs. @ 99.00 p/hr plus $34 materials/fuel fee) + tip, which I thought was more than fair since I've paid well over 700 dollars for moving the same items about the same distance a year ago. Once again, I'd give district relocators my full endorsement and would (will) definitely use them again. read more

Since I had a three-week gap between apartments, I was going to have to put my things in storage. I read the reviews on Yelp and decided to go with District Relocators, and I am so glad I did! The guys arrived at my first apartment (a high rise with elevator) earlier than expected (one guy showed up in a separate truck and began moving the boxes downstairs before the moving truck arrived!) and my entire one-bedroom apartment was cleaned out in a little under two hours and on its way to District Relocators' storage facility. The second part of my move was to an older condo with a flight of stairs and an awkwardly tight entrance into the apartment. The guys were a little late, but they called me in advance to let me know. Kareem, Will and Corey were friendly and in good spirits, even when my couch wasn't fitting through the doorway (the door couldn't be removed due to stripped screws). After about an hour of trying to think of a way to get it in, it finally managed to slide in. During the whole ordeal, the guys were super nice, funny, and never once let it show how hot and tired they must have been. I would definitely recommend District Relocators to anyone in the area who's planning a move. Not only are they affordable (mine was a little more expensive since it was essentially two separate moves), but the guys are professional and friendly, and everyone at District Relocators works to make your move as painless as possible. read more

This review is long overdue. Unfortunately, fewer than two weeks after our move, a contractor the landlord hired to fix the shower in our bathroom set our bathroom on fire and our apartment was condemned for over a month until necessary repairs were finished. Thus, our life got a bit hectic and we neglected to write our review. We hired District Relocators in September 2012 for a later October move. I am a planner and really get stressed over the little details. Therefore, having to rely on a new moving company for a move that had to be completed in a brief window (we had to be out of the apartment we were moving from in 2 days, and our lease didn't technically start until noon), made me very nervous. But the guys arrived earlier than expected, took very few breaks, were very friendly, and got the job completed in with an hour left to spare. We actually offered them more breaks, but they were really hard workers and got things done. We will definitely try to book them when we move into our home later this year and highly recommend their services. My one tip is that the woman answering the phone may get on your nerves. She has the best intentions, but repeats herself and tries to get you to hire more movers than you more need. With that in mind, ignore her because the movie service is worth every penny. And this is coming from someone who is very frugal and coupons like crazy. read more

On July 13, 2020, we were blessed to have 4 great movers Jermaine, Don, Drake, and Shawn. Those guys were on time, efficient, and extremely professional. I should have known those guys were good when they parked that big truck in an unbelievable parking spot. The moment they walked into the house they were extremely professional with great customer services. They immediately asked what were we moving and began to remove those items from the house as if they had lived in the house. Those guys had gathered, taped, and removed those items from my house, so fast. You just felt as if those guys had been working together as a team for 20 years. Their team exceeded anything including a professional sport team that I had every seen. They knew exactly what their individual roles were and worked it to perfection. This was so impressive that I continue to brag on those 4 young men today. Whatever those young men are getting paid by this company, it is not enough. They represented District Relocator so well that they should receive a pay raise immediately, which I did tell them. They are not making enough!!!!!! Great Job!!!!!! Guys Again Thank you!!!! Our move with District Relocators was great! We had a lot of boxes and furniture so they recommended a 4-person team and quoted us a very good rate. The move took about the length of time we expected. All members of the team worked hard the whole time. Everyone was friendly and had a great attitude as well (it's always awkward when the movers are in a bad mood or clearly want to be somewhere else -- granted moving isn't the most fun thing in the world, but that makes it even better when the movers keep things upbeat). They did arrive one hour late, but then really hustled to get the van loaded quickly so we could pack up without overshooting our elevator reservation. The only thing that got damaged during the move was a $5 IKEA lamp. We didn't follow up on that as we didn't mind junking the lamp. We did follow up when we realized on the day after our move that a piece of a bedframe had been left on the truck. I was worried we would have to go pick it up from their depot, but they made a special trip (to VA) and got the piece to us the same day. I figure things like this happen sometimes and focus more on how a company handles such issues. I was certainly impressed with the response from District Relocators. read more

District Relocators (DR) moved me today and I was blown away by how nice, professional, punctual, efficient, strong, careful, and effective they are. Nathan, TJ, and Jarvis showed up at 9:00 with a truck ready to go. I'd spent the upfront time packing and had given the scheduler Tony (who was great as well) the right info about my place (how many floors up and down, how much stuff, etc). They scheduled to move me in 3 hours a few blocks down the road at a set price and they nailed the timing. Nailed it cold. These guys are in great shape, know what they are doing, get to work and stay working until it's done. For comparison, I'd done this move with 7 friends who pitched in. We're all in good shape ourselves and are young, DR's guys put us to shame. What took me and 7 of my friends 6 hours to complete, these guys did in 3 hours. They were smart, had an effective and efficient system, and knocked it out like champs. I'm unpacking all my stuff and it's all in good shape. They took great care of my things and of me. I was very impressed and know who to call for my next move (which hopefully isn't for a long time - but if it is I know they'll make all the difference. Thanks District Relocators! read more

If I could give them a zero I would! The first time this company moved me, they were fabulous. The 2nd time was an absolute disaster. The crew that was assigned to my move was unprofessional and quite frankly lazy. They took an exceeding amount of time to move furniture from a 1 bedroom apartment less than 3 miles away causing me to go over which means I was charged the overage fees. I had a cabinet that I should have insured but took the minimal insurance assuming they know what they were doing as the last crew did. Not only did they break the cabinet, the owner offered to pay 60 cents per pound in restitution. This equated to about 40 dollars as a result of his own estimate without paying to have someone weigh the cabinet since his crew broke it. He was rude and disrespectful and was very slack in how he handled the entire situation. I will never use this company again, nor would I recommend it to anyone! I also noticed damage to my dining room table, and living room set as a result of sloppy work. This would include one of the workers yelling and cursing at his girlfriend while he should have been working. They could learn a lot as it pertains to customer service and return customers. read more

After reading reviews for District Relocators, I decided to give them a shot. I was moving from a 1 bedroom, fully furnished apartment to a 7x10 storage unit. Needless to say, I had concerns about fitting all of my belongings into such a tight space so I was hoping for a great team and that is exactly what I got. Nathan, TJ and Derrick arrived early (a first for me, and I have done many moves over the years), they were courteous, respectful of my belongings, and constantly moving from the moment they arrived. They properly advised me on how to store certain things and handled my precious items with care. All three of the movers had a great attitude, which kept me in good spirits (TJ even provided light comedy throughout the adventure!) and amazingly, they were able to get all of my items into the tight space. In fact, when we arrived at the storage facility there was another team of District Relocators moving someone else's property into a tight space and miraculously, they were successful as well. District Relocators has a great team of dedicated professionals and I would recommend them hands down to anyone looking for great service. read more

I booked District Relocators for a long-distance move to Richmond. For such a stressful time, having District Relocators there was a great relief! My movers were Lway, Chris, and Keimyni. They came right within the scheduled window, and got everything out much more quickly than I expected! It was like lightning. They drove through bumper-to-bumper traffic on I-95 and had to move my things into my building through an intense rainstorm. Even then, none of my electronics were damaged (and none of my other furniture, either). Thanks, guys! Also, thanks to Linda in the front office for helping me set this up. I'd had some miscommunications with Holly that frustrated me (apparently there's "no official cancellation policy," and she couldn't tell me how my quote was calculated or who to speak with to better understand my quote), but Linda was able to give me all of the information I needed (you lose the deposit you give upon booking if you cancel, and long-distance moves are calculated predominantly by the size of the truck, not by the number of objects moved). Today Greg, Akeem, Mike, and Elway helped my roommate and I move from H Street to Adams Morgan. They were super-professional and, most of all, efficient. Last time we moved, we had a little less furniture than we currently do and it still took seven hours. They completed the entire move in three, and that included flights of stairs on both ends. They came in, knew exactly what they were doing, and were a great team together. They even showed up two hours early (after calling first to confirm that was OK), since their morning move had gone so quickly. A move we expected to take until eight or nine at night was completed by three. We booked District Relocators because they offered a good deal for a three-hour minimum. We expected to have to pay for quite a bit more time and were so pleasantly surprised at how quickly the move went. DR was solid at every step of the way, from Arielle letting us reschedule three times to getting a call the night before to confirm to see if we had any questions to the guys today helping reassemble furniture. This was my first time moving using professional movers, and I decided to use them based on a glowing review from a friend (who used them several months earlier). She's pretty particular and critical about services, so her recommendation (backed up my Yelp!) was all I needed to convince me to go with District Relocators. The pre-move process was completely hassle-free. I completed an estimate request online, and received a (very reasonable) quote the next day. Except for calling and speaking with Holley to arrange the move, the rest of my communication with the company was via email. Every email received a timely response. The day of I had a 9-9:30 start window. They showed up at the tail end of that window (after calling ahead to let me know exactly when they'd arrive). The guys (Akeem, Mike, and Elway) were very efficient and polite. The entire move took exactly three hours (including 4 long flights of stairs in my new place) and everything arrived intact and undamaged. I did A LOT of research to find a well-reviewed, affordably priced company to move my 1 bedroom apartment on a three story walk-up (no elevator), to a storage unit. As a customer, we all know there are countless options and it's hard to know if you are making the best decision. First, I was very pleased with the initial price quote provided by Tony. Not only was District Relocators the cheapest option I found, Tony was very transparent with the pricing and fees and also informed me the quote was subject to slight change, based on the foreman's walk through day-of. Tay, Jamaal and Dre called in advance of their arrival, navigated my incredibly narrow, double-side parking, one-way street with ease, did an initial view of the space and started moving. They were all friendly, professional and incredibly efficient in meeting the 3 hour time-frame quoted. Everything was packed and moved with care and ultimately arranged with Marie Kondo efficiency in my 10x10 storage unit. Could not recommend more. Best price, best service. Book this team! read more

This is our second time moving in the DMV and moved from a 1 bedroom walk up on the second floor in DC to an apartment complex in Arlington (about 5 miles away). Tony's quote was accurate enough and came in much lower than a handful of other movers we contacted. Reservation and contract process with Tony were simple and straightforward. Akeem, Dave, CJ, and Scrap were polite, dog-friendly, efficient, and fast! Akeem called about 30 minutes ahead of their arrival time since they do give you a 2 hour window. You could tell they were doing their best to wrap up the job within the 3 hour minimum time. There are minor scratches to some furniture pieces but the team generally took good care in wrapping and moving everything. They were unable to pack a few boxes since they did not have tops and left the "move-from" location without letting us know (we were present the entire time). The team also asked us where we wanted every piece of furniture and box to go in the new apartment. A few minor gripes but overall a great value! read more

I never leave reviews on Yelp, but my roommates and I had such a positive experience with District Relocators last weekend that I wanted to leave some positive remarks., We had scheduled our move and were quoted a time of between 9-10. The movers called me at 9 to tell me that they were on their way, and would be at the house in about 30 minutes. Sure enough, at 9:30 Jermaine, Chris, Greg, and Mike were knocking on our door. They cheerfully (and quickly) disassembled furniture and loaded 3 bedrooms and a living rooms worth of items into their truck. They also helped us to load some heavier items into our cars. Unpacking went just as easily. One roommate left some important pieces to reassemble her furniture at our old house, and they even stayed a few minutes later then scheduled in order for her to get back with the pieces so they could reassemble. My experience with district relocators was great from the start, got a fair and quick quote the same day as my request went out and I was able to schedule everything no sweat. The move was today, from a one-bedroom in downtown DC to a one-bedroom in Arlington. The mover team showed up promptly, and in the 20 minutes it took me to walk to the bank and get some cash for payment everything was wrapped and loaded on the truck! I was genuinely surprised as I had some big furniture and a tight alley way to get it all down. We got to the new apartment building and within 40 minutes everything was in my new apartment on the 13th floor. Absolutely no damage and they even put some furniture in the appropriate rooms! I even got some interior design suggestions haha Overall, great experience from scheduling to execution. Move staff was prompt, communicative, professional and above all else, efficient. Made a stressful day to an easy day. I am thankful for that. Would recommend to anyone in DC, great bang for you buck! read more
