I submitted the claim for the 60 cents per pound like a week ago or so, then left the last review. I just got a call from Eugene, the owner of the business. It was pretty pleasant overall. He apologized for all the inconvenience and gave some of the reasoning as to why the delay had happened, all of which was fair. He addressed more of my concerns in my original review. From what I understood, the carriers are third-party, so they can't really control delays. He understood my frustration about the refund being only about $24 and asked how much would I think is fair. I said $200. He said that's completely fair and ended up zelling me the money right after the phone call. Obviously the move itself was a bit frustrating, but this I think more than made up for it and it was super validating feeling like he understood where I was coming from. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the conversation and the resolution. read more

We hired Global Moving Systems to pick up furniture and deliver it to a friend and to Goodwill. Enkhe's team showed up shortly before the estimated time window. Our job included large, heavy pieces on the third floor and navigating tight, steep staircases. Despite the difficulty, Enkhe and Big Nagi had everything out of our home in less than an hour. I followed them to each drop-off location, and we were done in under three hours. The whole process was very professional -- we never felt uncomfortable or worried that the situation wasn't under control. I'd highly recommend Global Moving Systems. I used Global Moving Systems for a local move and I was very happy with my choice. The person I spoke with to book the move, Yurily, was very professional and provided good communication. On the day of the move, the crew phoned about an hour or so before they arrived and arrived on time. The crew was very polite, organized and efficient as wasted no time getting started. Apart from a few scratches on a couple pieces of furniture, they did a great job. Only negative- the job was priced with a four hour minimum, but the crew was done in just over two some of which accounts for travel time which is baked into the job. Needed to move from one storage unit to another unit 5 miles away. Called Friday and was able to get 4 guys to come Saturday morning. They showed up early and worked efficiently to load and unload all my stuff into my new store unit within 3 hours. I was very happy with the team. I requested moving quotes through Yelp. I got flooded with responses right away. Yuri from GMS was very persistent in trying to earn my business. I'm guessing he's a sales guy because he was a little too persistent for my personality. However, I ended up hiring GMS. The crew arrived on time and worked diligently all day. The job turned out to be a little bigger than estimated which caused the crew to exceed the estimated time of completion. That resulted in a higher bill at the end but it was understandable. Oscar was wonderful, if it weren't for him I would be very uncertain about this company. We had a long distance move, four random hired hands ( not employees) showed up to our home to load ( they did a great job). We were told that there may be people to help in the next state or there may not be, it could just be Oscar unloading the 26' truck himself. Seems like they pulled two guys off the street to help unload. They were clearly not as experienced as the first guys were, nor arrived dressed like they were ready to unload a truck. The one said he twisted his ankle but also had unlaced loose tennis shoes on... They go off hoping they can find someone in the next state to unload the truck with them. When reserving with Yuriy he said there would be three guys loading, traveling and unloading. That's not the case. But it's what he sold the cost of it all on, he said they were barely making money from the move by the time the three guys traveled and stayed for possibly up to two nights- three total day move. I had another quote at $4500 but Yuiry said there would be no way because of the above mentioned reason. Not the case at all. The move took two days, one night stay. Yuriy was meh, he's a sales guy so that's expected. The move was $6K, I hope they compensated Oscar fairly for all the work he did. I'm only doing this review because Oscar was really great to work with. The company's process seemed sketchy. read more

I hired Global Moving Systems to help me move from Columbia Heights to Shaw, both in DC. I found them to be exceptionally slow/expensive (considering they charge hourly), and they didn't reassemble my bedframe correctly. I have used two other moving companies in the past (one DC-based) and found Global Moving Systems to be unusually expensive. This is because they only sent a crew of two to move my stuff, compared to the three or four I've had from other companies, and the crew did not move fast considering they are professional movers. To be specific, compared to another company in DC, they were approximately $400 more expensive because other companies that also charge by the hour have been faster at moving my things and they have sent more people. I'd like to be as transparent and factual as possible, so here's all the details about my move- It started with them arriving at the wrong address, which was fine because they didn't start the clock for charging me until they finally arrived within the two-hour window that they had described. I had all of my stuff packed in boxes (a normal number of boxes for one person in an apartment) and asked them also to move a tall wardrobe, my bedframe and mattress, a big desk, an office chair, and a three-person couch. I told them all of this to get the quote. I moved from an apartment on the third floor to an apartment on the second and third floor. I did not have any elevators, which does contribute to the total time (i told them about this beforehand too), and the three person couch was difficult to get into a room, which I'm not docking them for. I am, however, docking them for reassembling my very basic bed incorrectly, which I was able to fix with socket wrenches myself. I had to disassemble the entire bed to fix it. It's still not what I would expect from a professional, because my entire bed was on a slant and it was an obvious error. Finally, despite confirming the address of my second apartment with them, they still showed up to the wrong second address (two wrong addresses in a row), and took an additional 15-20 minutes to arrive at the correct location. The entire move took five hours and over $750, when the original three-hour quote was $412.50. I also helped move boxes once they arrived at my second apartment, which sped up the process. I've had other DC movers charge approximately $300 less, and they were able to put together my furniture correctly. Also, Global Moving Systems does not have a way for you to leave a complaint/feedback. If you call, they'll refer you to their broken object form, which was not applicable to my case. They also told me they never get complaints about the pace of the move, but that i could include that information in the form, which is not actually possible. If you try to leave anything but a five star review on their website you can't. I do want to say i appreciated the hard work the two people completed on a hot day. They were nice and clearly worked hard. However, it seemed like they needed more support and more experience with moves. read more

That tab on the Yelp app, the one between Search and Me, that says Projects? I used it to find a moving company for a move out of state. You enter in your details, date of move, inventory, etc., and Yelp sends out messages on your behalf. Almost instantaneously you'll start to receive answers to your inquiry. First I went by availability-- this had to happen within a week, on a particular day. Then I checked Yelp reviews, and one mover called me -- I spoke to them, they provided a quote, I checked their reviews, and voila -- we had a match. That's why I'm leaving a review on Global Moving Systems. They had excellent communication throughout the process -- timely call and quote, reminders before, the day prior, and the team called me early in the day of moving. They moved me out, drove to the new location out of state, unloaded, and we were in and done in a little over two hours. The movers were friendly and efficient. There was one slight snafu that I'll bring up to the company but it won't affect my review here. The Yelp Project tab helped me and it was easy. Yelp also has a guarantee that provides up to $2500 if a project becomes a problem. This worked out for me. Moving on! read more
