Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. We had a small portion of items remaining at our house, sent pictures ahead of time, and they sent out a three person crew. The items were mainly consolidated into main areas, anticipating that it would make it easier for the moving crew to quickly pack and move the items to the trailer. They were here for over 9 hours, packed the truck half full vertically, but filled the 28 foot horizontally. This is something I would expect from college kids who have zero experience as you get charged every foot horizontally you take up in cross country moves. So now, not only are we out $2300 for these movers, we are out an extra 3k because they used twice the amount of space that was actually needed if they had done it correctly. Military and families and federal employees- go anywhere else. This was an absolute disaster. read more

Two guys came to move my stuff for a 1 bedroom apartment ( John and John Tate (?)). They also removed the junk (about 4-5 pieces of furniture and bike). They did a great job lifting the furniture and all the things I had under two hours. Hardworking, capable dudes made the move easy! The only thing was that they arrived 40 minutes late to the job. John called to let me know and then apologized, which was professional. Maybe next time give a later start time or consider traffic time when giving the customer a start time. Would use them again! 1 STAR - DECEPTIVE PRICING, SCAM-LIKE PRACTICES, AND FEDERAL LAW VIOLATIONS I hired this company for packing + moving and this was one of the worst service experiences I've ever had. Packing Service (Extremely Poor) * Items were thrown into boxes with zero organization -- medications, spices, bathroom items, and kitchen items all mixed together. * Shoes were dumped into boxes. * Clothes were dumped into boxes. * Expensive artwork wasn't packed at all, and movers admitted they didn't know how to pack it. * They ran out of supplies (boxes, markers) despite me paying for a packing supply package. * I had to finish packing my own belongings myself just to avoid being charged more. * Clothing was left behind at my old apartment. The packing service was a complete waste of money. Movers Deliberately Running the Clock The movers were paid hourly and moved extremely slowly. * Excessive small talk about my personal belongings, looking at my expensive bags, like they were scanning my stuff to see what they could take. Looking at my Louis Vuitton bags asking how much my artwork cost it felt as thought they were sizing me up on how much to charge me based on the expensive stuff I have. They saw I had a Porsche they saw I had a Lexus they would make comments on what do I do for living and it was very uncomfortable and very unprofessional. That's when I knew I needed to call my mother because this didn't seem like a legit white glove moving company * What should have taken ~2 hours for two day increments turned into a two day event of eight hours or more each day. Out of three movers: * One was professional. * Two stood around while the one competent mover did all the work. I paid for 3 movers and effectively got 1. Illegal Attempt to Inflate Pricing (Major Issue) I was explicitly quoted and contracted for a flat rate of $1,683. * I asked multiple times if the price could change and was told no. I have on recording this conversation with the sales representative which is named Diana Jones. When my mother heard this recording from her FBI expertise in cybersecurity she knew instantly the voice that they use is a AI generated voice over who you are speaking to is really the scam artist mover impersonating a robotic female voice. * I provided full photos of my apartment. To generate the providing and the contract reflected a flat-rate agreement. After the entire move, they attempted to charge over $3,700, claiming additional fees that were never disclosed or agreed to. I only paid the contracted amount which was contracted at $1683. That is all we paid and that is what my mother told me we are only going to pay THATS IT. Anything else is illegal. Under federal moving regulations (FMCSA), movers cannot increase an estimate beyond the legal threshold without proper documentation and consent. What they attempted to do was unlawful. I refused to pay the illegal upcharge and paid only the contracted flat rate of $1,683, which is my legal right. Federal Reporting & Oversight The move was a two day process. On the second day I told my mother to accompany me on the second move day after I brought to her attention the scam this moving company is running. My mother -- who is a FBI agent -- was present due to the high number of past scam-related allegations associated with this company. Which is operating in an unlawful way, by breaking federal laws. The law that this scamming company breaks is called: Hostage Load Scam. A hostage load happens when a moving company: * Gives a low or flat-rate quote to secure the job * Loads your belongings onto the truck * Then demands a much higher price (often 100-300% more) * Refuses to deliver your items unless you pay the inflated amount This practice is illegal under federal law for interstate moves and heavily regulated even for local moves. Once it was made clear that: * we were aware the attempted upcharge was illegal, and * formal complaints would be filed with multiple federal and consumer protection agencies, the company immediately backed down and stopped pushing for the unlawful charges. I did not pay the additional unlawful up charge I only paid the contracted amount which was $1686. The unlawful charge that they tried to make this whole move be was $3700 that is when my mother told them that she is a FBI agent and now this has become a sting operation. I have never seen people look so scared in my life after they realized my mother was FBI, they stopped what they were doing and my mother told them to go away and everything they are doing is being reported to FMCSA. This is not a real moving company this is a scam. read more

Excellent customer service! BoxStar went above and beyond to right a wrong and you can tell they care about doing business right. During our move, one of our wooden bed posts was not properly covered/wrapped and fell by accident causing the bed frame piece to break. On the spot, our mover contacted his supervisor and they presented a few options: have the piece fixed by an independent contractor that they partner with, or receive a discount for the move. We opted to have the piece repaired. The bed was ready 5 days later and they worked around my work schedule to deliver it back to me (they insisted on returning it to us promptly because they were concerned that I was sleeping on a mattress being 37 weeks pregnant). Once delivered, they also assembled the bed for us. Their fixer did a great job- you can't even tell where the break had been! The bed has been doing well since- no creaking or instability. I used BoxStar for a 1BR apartment move with one stop at a previous residence to pick up a few large pieces of furniture, and then a final destination to a new 3BR 3-story home. They showed up right on time, did careful but fast work, and were all friendly and knowledgeable. They unloaded super quickly, reassembled everything, and showed me an itemized list of materials and time down to the minute. The rate I got was $145 an hour I believe, but they also give you a same-day booking discount on top of that if you book right when you call to get your estimate. Be advised if you have an oddly heavy/large item (like a safe), there is an extra charge, but everywhere I talked to had that. read more

BoxStar accepted a complicated 3-day move which started with packing up and moving our storage unit in Fairfax (day 1) and our condo in Arlington (day 2) to take our household goods to a storage facility in Williamsburg VA (day3). Dave came and gave an estimate about a month ago. On moving day, they brought plenty of boxes, blankets, tape, and manpower. At the condo, our neighbors remarked that they were the most professional movers they had seen. They protected the hallway floor with plastic, and moved efficiently, not blocking the hall for our neighbors. They arrived early on day 3 at the destination and unloaded the truck. I chose box star for my move because of all the great reviews and because the quote I received seemed reasonable. Movers showed up on time and all of my items arrived at my new place in good condition. However, the movers ended up taking twice the quoted amount of time, which means I ended up paying twice as much as I expected. The inventory I submitted to box star was exact so it's unacceptable that it cost twice as much as I was expecting. I was so frustrated and worried about cost by the end of it that I had the movers just leave all of my moving bins stacked in the entryway and didn't spend any time getting the living room furniture where I wanted it. Came across BoxStar Movers on Yelp, saw they had great reviews, then checked Google and saw the reviews were consistent, so I chose them for my move from VA to MD. The first star earned was when Ed and Uran arrived 20 mins ahead of time. Second and third stars were for the speed and efficiency that they showed when loading the truck. Believe me when I say, it was no small feat! They had 3 flights of stairs to climb to get to my apt (no elevator). My parents and I were super impressed! The fourth star was for the unloading at the new place - not one item was damaged....and again, they had stairs to climb (thankfully it was just one flight this time...but by then they must've been exhausted). The fifth and final star was for their pleasant demeanor throughout the whole process. I really have nothing but respect for the hard work these guys do on a regular basis. Do you even like your stuff? Do you want to hold on to your prized possessions? I did a move with this company in which they drove up the clock. I have never in all my life of living in apartments and moving had a move go for 7-8 hours, NEVER!! They piece-mealed everything to drive up the clock. The kicker: I discovered that at least $5,000 worth of some of my belongings/possessions, including my favorite painting, EVERY LAST PIECE of ALL my jewelry, clothes, kitchenware and supplies (this isn't even all of it, but for sure more valuable stuff I've not realized) turned up missing after the move, papers had been rifled through, items shifted into various containers- containers only the movers handled, etc., The shorter man who spoke the most English, who was very rude and obnoxious spent most of the time with my belongings while the older guy walked minimal items up and down the elevator. And what is the company who was so eager to get the job and scam me willing to do about it, $250, you have got to be kidding me. Unfortunately, I was the wrong one for this little experiment. Don't hire these SCAM Artists, they're unconscionable, dishonest, and apparently have very very stick fingers. Like I said, THE WRONG ONE!!! Hello Luna, actually you are lying about my items and wrapping, you did not have to wrap a lot of items, as any item with glass was already wrapped/partially wrapped. I hate when people lie and you are lying. Most of my items were not placed on a public dock, that fact that you are outrageously lying signals the culpability. Not to mention you just violated my privacy regarding other matters posting your response here. Which adds even more insult to injury because your company hasn't even cared enough to respond to me, which leads me to believe it comes from the Top down, a whole scheme. Since your course of action is to continue to LIE after SCAMMING and apparently MAKING OFF WITH/TAKING my valuables, the next steps will be taken to address your activities!!!
