My boyfriend used this service for his move yesterday and had a great experience. The mover team, Dre, Jamaal, and Chris arrived on time and immediately got to work. They wrapped his things up and provided furniture covers before putting his things into the truck. We met them at his storage unit and when we thought the storage unit would be too small, they looked it over and said they could fit everything. They meticulously maneuvered everything into our unit and got it all to fit! Because of this, they saved us from having to pay more money for a larger unit. We honestly had a good experience from start to finish and are greatly appreciative for their assistance. Plus, their pricing was incredibly reasonable. This is my second time using them. The first move went smoothly, which is why I hired them again. Unfortunately, this experience was completely different. While the crew arrived on time, there were only three movers instead of the four that were expected. I was then charged an additional $120 for an extra hour. One of the movers openly admitted that he had been out all night and was exhausted, which was evident in his performance throughout the move. The most frustrating part is that I moved into a brand-new construction home, and the movers caused significant damage. They put holes in my walls and scratched my stairs. I understand that minor scuffs can happen during a move, but these were deep gashes and holes that require repair. Before the crew left, I brought the damage to the attention of the lead mover. He told me not to worry and said I could file a claim using the claim number on my receipt. Since then, I have called multiple times and have not received a single callback. The only person I have been able to reach says she is in sales and cannot help me. No one has contacted me, and no repairs have been made. The lack of accountability and customer service has been extremely disappointing. Our move from Bethesda to Brooklyn actually went fine but for the reasons below I am knocking off some stars. We had a two-day move (pickup 9/3 and drop off 9/4). The movers themselves were generally friendly and efficient but we did encounter a few issues that I feel are important to share. Bottom line up front: communication issues and a damaged item; they are now ghosting me after multiple attempts. First, when we first requested a quote, and while we were negotiating the flat rate, the admin team was very responsive and helpful. After that, it was difficult to get responses by email or text and I had to call to get answers after a couple days of waiting. Our new building in NYC required a Certificate of Insurance. I asked District Relocators for this many times (8/19, 8/25, 9/1, 9/3) and did not receive it until AFTER the move was done (9/4). We are fortunate that our building did not block the move. Second, I was told we'd have to pay by Zelle 72 hrs prior to the move. I reached out around this time because I had not been told who to pay via Zelle. I wasn't told who to Zelle until the day prior to the move and then had to text and later call to confirm it was even received. Third, despite having a pre-arranged drop off time in NYC of 2-4pm (we had to drive up from Maryland and couldn't get into our unit until 1pm anyways), the movers arrived very early, called us to ask where we were prior to the time slot (we were about 20 min away), and then made some comments about how long they had to wait for us and "why couldn't you get here earlier?" (they said they arrived sometime between 11am-12pm; we arrived around 1:30). This all happened even though we confirmed the drop-off time of 2-4pm the day prior, during pickup. Finally, the movers damaged an item that we did not notice until after the movers had left (ripped handle off of a trunk). This was not normal wear and tear and was clearly ripped by someone lifting the trunk. The person who ripped it would've felt this happen but never told us that it ripped. I emailed that evening (9/4) with a photo and then again two days later (9/6), then when I didn't get a response, I had to send a text asking for help (9/8). We finally got a response just saying they would check for the emails I had sent...and then nothing. We are still waiting to get any word on the damaged item (posting this very late on 9/8, the date I told them I'd be posting the review; I gave them ample opportunity to reach out). We just want some accountability and for the repair to be covered. read more

While the price for our move was reasonable and customer service initially responsive, the overall experience was disappointing due to how rushed and careless the movers were. Our leather couch cushions were loaded into the truck without any wrapping, and as a result, they were badly (and predictably) scratched. A nightstand was lifted by its top, causing it to break. They also packed items that clearly weren't ready -- like a coffee maker that still had coffee in it -- and misplaced several things. We filed a damage claim over six weeks ago and have reached out multiple times via phone and email, but have yet to receive any response. We're sharing this review as a last resort, hoping it prompts the company to take responsibility and improve their service. read more

My first experience went so well that I decided to return -- but this time, the process was far more stressful and disappointing. The first time I had limited interaction with management and back office staff. The problems began early: I was pressured to move on a day I wasn't ready for, after being told the company had no availability on my preferred date -- only to find out later that they actually did. When moving day arrived, things got worse. The driver couldn't get on base due to a unknown suspended license, and it became clear that the company had failed to communicate with the movers about my situation or provide them with the proper documentation required for base access. It took hours to get any updates. I called multiple times and was put on hold for 20 minutes or more each time, with no clear information about next steps. I only began receiving communication after I grew frustrated. To their credit, they did place my daughter and me in a hotel overnight while they tried to resolve the issue, which I appreciated. However, I asked five separate times for the owner's contact information and was told she couldn't be reached. The owner finally called only after I threatened not to pay. He said he reduced my bill, but I was given no documentation to confirm it, and he continued pressing his team to collect payment in the middle of the offload, which felt unprofessional. The silver lining -- and truly the saving grace -- was the movers themselves. **Shon, Jermaine, Dre, Krystyn, and a few others I cannot name** were phenomenal. They were kind, efficient, respectful, and genuinely fun to be around. They handled everything with care and made the actual unloading experience smooth and enjoyable. If those movers ever go to another company, I'll follow them without hesitation. They deserve management that communicates better and supports them properly. District Relocators moved items and stored them for us. When they delivered, a number of items were missing. We have contacted DR repeatedly over the last 2 months, providing photos and details of what they lost. Customer service is typically very nice (but sometimes hangs up on me), and they state that they have found some items and will reimburse us for what they cannot find. However, they NEVER deliver -- we have not received the items and have not received reimbursement. We had a delivery date yesterday and they ghosted us. I called today and they put me on hold and then hung up. I called twice afterwards and it goes to voicemail. Do NOT use this company. read more

They broke our $1,000 bed frame, then lied that they didn't actually disassemble it and claimed it was already in poor condition based on the photos we sent them of the damage they caused! Look elsewhere if you care about receiving your belongings in good condition. The walls of my apartment were also damaged during the loading process (pic included), so I'd only work with them if there are literally no other options. You'll probably be better off renting a UHaul. I had a straightforward 1BR move from NoMa (DC) to Brooklyn (NY) that was quoted for $2k+. The largest item I had was an IKEA floor length mirror -- all of my other belongings were packed into new boxes. Thankfully I grabbed a picture of my loaded items before they drove off. Imagine my surprise when they began to deliver my boxes, and...they all appeared with water damage. It wasn't "oops I spilled my water bottle on this" bad -- it was as if my boxes were left out in the rain overnight. Then stomped on. I was especially confused since I made sure to not pack any liquids in the main boxes. Initially I received a phone call from their office stating they were aware of the destruction and that they'd "immediately look into it." However, DR began to drag their feet when it came time to compensate for the damage they caused. Big surprise. In most cases I would move on and take the blame for not purchasing their insurance policy. But I wasn't aware they'd take my belongings out during a flash flood without protective gear or alerting the customer. Please learn from my mistake. read more

This was one of the rudest companies I have dealt with. I highly advise that anyone considering working with them stays away. There were several logistical concerns with what they proposed us. For example, they wanted to access to our home for packing on a weekday when we were working at the office so they could fit in other mothers on our moving day. On our moving day, they wanted to carry the furniture down the stairs (ten flights!) because our freight elevator was not available during the only 2 hour time frame that worked for them, despite us having booked them for a 4 hour time frame. This concerned me that furniture would be damaged during the process. Beyond the above, the greatest concern with this company was the tone they used during our interactions. From the minute I first introduced myself to them on the phone and explained our concerns I was met with hostility and rude responses - they also said "it's not a problem we know what we are doing" without giving simple explanations or answers to my questions. I explained that if I did not understand some of the logistics behind it I would be concerned about continuing with them. They told me to find other movers and ended the call. EDIT (11/17): The reply below is false because I did not call the day before. Our move was scheduled for November 6, while my review was posted on November 2. Since I cannot respond to the below directly, I'm editing my comment here to include the email from them as proof. We only asked about the painter as a convenience. We never stated that November 6 would not work if it could not be changed. The only reason I called after learning the day could not change is because our apartment building did not have the freight elevator available at the arrival window they provided (it had nothing to do with the painter). After receiving the attached email and learning the day could not be changed, I called to explain that we had the elevator booked 12-4 pm. Considering smaller items could be moved first, the only request at that point was for them to come one hour later than what they proposed. They refused. We were fully prepared to move on November 6 and happily went through with our move using a different company. read more

I got a referral from a friend for District Relocators. They came highly recommended and I booked them about 6-8 weeks out from my move. They responded very fast, and even when I had random questions throughout, the response was always less than 48 hours. The day of the move was stressful until they came along. I pretty much stayed out of the way and let them do their thing. They were so fast and efficient. They even moved things that I hadn't expected which was a huge plus! I don't mind relocating but I must say I hate the moving part. Period. District Relocators took the pain out of my recent move. From the quote (very competitive) from Tony in the office to the actual move it was hassle free. In fact there were accommodations that were necessary and I must say the communication from the office Throughout was exceptional. The movers arrived earlier than my window and began doing the job until it was finished. Everything was protected and secured. Then moved without incident from a 3rd floor apt., quickly on a 85 degree 78% humidity morning. Then at the destination we hit bumps in the road. This new building had the main loading dock entrance blocked and a stuck freight elevator. Once these obstacles where overcome it seemed like my belongings got in my new apt in warp speed. The foreman Akeem was a professional in every way. He shared he had 22 years experience in this business and it showed. Experience does count. His leadership with his crew of 2 (who where excellent. I'm sorry I didn't get their names in the blur of my move) and his resourcefulness helped to make this move, for me, a breeze. Tip: Be prepared with what you want moved before they arrive. Because this outfit means business, the business of moving you, no idling. If you are like me however and can't seem to get it completely together at least know for sure what you want moved. This company was fantastic to work with. I spoke with Tony Smalls after reaching out about a quote to move furniture from my storage unit, making a stop at my parents house to pick up a few pieces, and then off to my new house. Tony told me what no other company would: for a 3 bedroom, it's a ripoff essentially if a moving company only offers 2 or 3 movers. It would certainly take longer than whatever hours they quote. Tony sent out 5 movers and quoted me for 4 hours. Dave, Thomas, Terrell Baker, Jay and Rome were very efficient. They emptied out my storage unit and had it loaded on the truck in less than an hour. They then went to my second stop to pick up some suitcases, an oversized swivel chair, and bedroom furniture. They went to the final stop, got unpacked and placed everything where we wanted it. They also put together the bed from the second stop that they had to diss assemble. It took them 3 hours to do all of that. I was very pleased and would absolutely recommend District Relocators. After tipping, I was still under $1000 for my move. Other companies were quoting me around the same but for only 2-3 movers. One company quoted me over $2000! read more

I initially rated them a 3 because they do move quickly and the movers were kind. However, as mentioned in my original post, the movers came more than an hour late, complicating the elevator reservation and delaying the completion of the move past 6pm. They should've accepted the 3 star rating, it's average. It's not great but not awful. However, they asked me to remove my rating as I am "suspicious and dishonest" because I chose not to disclose the client's, my fiancee's, name because presently, she lives alone and she asked me to conceal her identity for her safety. I was also present during the whole move from waiting for the movers until the movers leaving. Quite ridiculous and unprofessional and you wonder how such businesses have high ratings. read more

One mover was putting up my headboard together the other two broke it and brought the dresser up, asked where to place it and left. The mover finished with my bed went down and came back up with the papers to sign and informed me the dresser was broke and showed me the damage. I have emailed and called today. Have used this moving company twice for a long distance move between DC and NYC and cant recommend them enough. They offer a very fair price on long distance moves and offer discounts as well. I corresponded with Tony both times and he was great. Always super responsive via text or phone call and was able to get the dates I needed with just a weeks notice. They do their best to accommodate you and are very understanding of changing personal situations. The movers were great and helped us pack everything up including loose items we forgot to put in boxes. Nothing was broken, missing, or scratched any time. They are also super speedy and each time only spent about 45 minutes moving everything (for context we have a one bedroom apt in an elevator building). It was a seamless process that was well worth it for the peace of mind. read more

It's a decent cost quote-- so know that going into it. But, don't expect any sort of kindness/niceties or even really any conversation. The four movers they sent out were good overall, but only one was wearing a mask (blatant signs everywhere about mask wearing) and it doesn't bode well when the first comments made to you are about how you're not prepared (untrue) and they won't deal with a mounted TV (which was never going to be moved). It wasn't until we were at my destination that I realized one of my lamps is missing. I have the lamp shade but not the base. I also had my mattress in a protector and wrapped but the protector was filthy (it was raining during the move) and the bottom right side and pillow-top area were drenched. I had to use a hair dryer to dry it. There were also items that never got moved and I'm not sure why. A suitcase that was full and ready to go-- a box of some artwork, and a monitor. So now I still have to move these items. read more

The service we received from District Relocators was really exemplary. We got the quote quickly and started planning with Tony about our anticipated move date. Due to some technical issues, our move date was up in the air but Tony was really accommodating and worked with us to shift it as we worked with finalizing closing and occupancy dates with our new place. On the day of the move, CJ and the moving team texted when they were 15 minutes out. The team was professional, asked good questions about our items and were able to get all the items down and loaded into the truck in a reasonable time. When we arrived at the new place, the team again quickly unloaded the truck and got the items into the new place and even took the time to ask good questions about where we wanted items when we failed to label the boxes and bins appropriately. The new place had several flights of stairs but the team was really accommodating in taking care with our items. The entire process took just over 3 hours which was impressive given the significant amount of items we own. We have unpacked all the items and there is little to no damage (nothing one wouldn't expect with normal wear and tear from moving). We know the moving team was tired after finishing the job and we are deeply thankful for all their energy they gave to make the move very smooth. read more

I wouldn't use this company to move again. I had District Relocators move me from a studio to a one bedroom locally in DC. Overall, it wasn't awful but it could have been better. The moving crew themselves were polite, efficient, and on time--but it felt like management set my move up to be more chaotic than it needed to be by shoehorning it into under 3 hours. More significantly, when they made a mistake, District Relocators blew me off. I was originally quoted one price for three movers for three hours. That price was not the best I'd received, but they sounded legit and had good reviews. After submitting my inventory, I got a confusing call from Tony that eventually ended with me agreeing to hire four men (they sent five!) rather than turn my 3-hour move into a 4-hour move. That increased my estimate by a quarter but they ended up finishing in 2.5 hours. I got $50 off for scheduling it during the week. However, I was one person trying to direct five guys rushing around my apartment which made things really chaotic. To be fair, I was probably also underprepared and short on boxes. They just started grabbing things--like electronics--and ripping the cords out to get things onto the truck as fast as possible. Some things that Tony had assured me would be wrapped and protected-- like my very nice new mattress and box spring--were not. I had a mattress cover on the mattress that appeared to have been dragged through the dirt and had a hole in it; I had to throw it away. I didn't take a picture of that, but I've attached a picture of the dirty box spring with splinters in it. A 1ft piece of my coffee table also evidently got splintered off and no one said anything. I also wasn't told that they would not move certain things, like plants, that I'd put on the inventory. (Whyyyy does the form encourage that we inventory gardening things when they won't move them?) It was total chaos and things I wanted moved got left behind, while things I wanted to stay were moved. Specifically, I asked the movers to leave behind a heavy bookcase so I could give it to a neighbor. They moved it to my new place anyway and then left it by the dumpster without telling me. Once I learned that it was sitting outside, I reached out to Tony for help in moving it back. I needed help-- it was heavy and I couldn't move it by myself, and my building would charge me a fortune if I left it there. He asked me to email them about the issue and told me he'd have a resolution in a few days-- and then completely blew me off. I never heard from them again. In the end, I had to figure out a new plan to handle my super heavy bookcase. I also had to rent a car and move the rest of my things piecemeal over the next week, which was just really hard, stressful, and doubled my costs. read more

I don't recommend using this company. They half-assembled our bed in a way that was unsafe - the bed platform was all misaligned and could've injured us had we not took out the mattress to double check. They also lost parts that were required for the bed assembly. We also paid for packing service and they were so willing to leave after leaving a lot of items unpacked. The guy who was in charge was busy counting boxes to charge us and got upset when we asked them to finish packing items when they only spent one hour, while charging us for two hours because that was the minimum number of hours. read more

I moved in July (the busiest time of the year) and I'm SO glad I went with District Relocators!! They were so efficient from start to finish. We had almost all of our things in the truck within the first 30 minutes and in total from VA to DC it took about 1 hour and 30 minutes for our entire move. An incredible team here and I'm excited to use them again next time! Also, I want to mention that they were the most budget friendly moving team in the DMV.
