RENTER BEWARE :: This facility only offers month to month contracts. I entered into an agreement in January 2024. In April 2024 they notified me that the rate would double in 30 days. So I am now paying 2x what was advertised. When I called to share my frustration, I was told that my initial rate was an online special that was 50% off the going rate at the time. The going rate is now 3x what I am paying -- not sure how I am at a lower rate but I guess I'll take it. Want real figures? My initial rate was $26. I now pay $53. Others renting similar place are being offered at $150, or so I'm lead to believe. Evidently this is industry standard (month to month pricing), but it feels predatory. Easy to set up a unit. I needed to store a vehicle and I was able to secure the spot and had all the paperwork within 15 minutes. Value of the space for the proximity to Washington DC is unbeatable. I am very glad I was able to securely store my vehicle here. read more

The guy here service and hospitality towards their customers suck. I was doing everything on the phone with a girl and I was missing an information and she said I could call back and pick up where I left off. When I called back I got connected with a guy and basically didn't want to do his job and help me or help connect me back to who I need to speak with. Told me to do it online myself. Even though the girl has already inputted all my info. So I have to start all over again. Some people just hate their jobs read more

SCAM: After three months, they double the price. $79 to $150. You can call and get lower, but they will drop only to $110. Additionally, the employee on the phone said that they do this every couple months. So, unless you want to keep having your rent, increase every couple months, do not go here. The place is clean and the people were pretty nice but you will just be paying more and more and more until you leave. my friend and i had been renting out a space at this location for a little over year. When i left college up there, obviously we couldn't come up there to get all of it til then.... When we did in a last min notice... The staff, the lady specifically helped us so much. We had to get all of stuff out and we made it in with just two/three hours. It wouldn't be finished at all if it wasn't for them. They even stayed after the opening hours and helped us closing the account too. I have had some bad experiences with previous storages, but this one did nothing but did everything in a very professional way as possible. Shout out to the staff for real! read more

I wish I would have read the comments more thoroughly. They doubled our rent after just three months of being with them. They said it is based on the market price each month but you cannot tell me that it suddenly doubled in value. This is criminal. We now have to move all of our stuff out of our unit and find a new place who is not going to throw you a large bill without warning. Save your time and money and go elsewhere. read more

Everything about Extra Space Storage on Florida Ave, NW, Washington, DC, was fine except the extortionate pricing. We rented a 10'x15' unit to hold our household stuff for what we thought would be a year or so, but it unavoidably stretched into 3+ years. They constantly raised our monthly rates every six months until we were finally paying more than double the rent. The first time I objected and they quickly backed down on the increase, but after that, no more. It is clear that once they have your stuff in their facility and think they can get away with it, they just start jacking up the price as quickly and as much as they can. Unfortunately for us, we were out of town and had no way to move our stuff into another facility so were stuck. It literally felt like our stuff was being held hostage for ransom. Unless you know for certain you will only need the storage for a year or less, or are able to quickly move your stuff elsewhere and threaten to do so, I would not put my stuff in their facility. read more

Exploitative practices. Signed contract for a 10' x 13' unit for 159/mo. Rent was increased over 50% at the 4 month mark. Called to ask why, was told they do this to everyone, but they could 'negotiate' to a 20% increase. Also said if it went up again, I could call back to negotiate. Another 6 months passed. Now my rent has gone up nearly 80% (new total rent is nearly 100% higher than when I signed the contract.) They now saw negotiation is not possible. Facility recommended I call customer service, who confirmed policy is to automatically increase rent at the 4, 6, and 9 month marks (then every 9 months thereafter). They know folks don't want to move, so they have captive customers. They said the rent increases are due to "market demands," but a 10' x 13' unit is currently being rented for 148/mo (less than I agreed to over a year ago). They would rent a NEW unit to me at this price, but I would need to pay movers to move into an identical unit in the same building (and pointless, because this would all repeat again). DO NOT RENT FROM HERE. The discounted rate they give you online will only last for 3 months and then they will double your rent to due to "market conditions". This is a lie as when you go onto the website, the discounted rate will still be there for new unsuspecting customers. They do not tell you this upfront and will only send a small unmarked postcard telling you " as a month to month provider, our rates have increased." THERE IS NO OPTION FOR A YEAR LONG CONTRACT. Today I woke up to find they jacked the price of my unit up without warning. When I called and spoke to staff in the office, I was told they do this after 3 months. Ridiculous! The customer service from the staff, who play no role in the price jacking, is great nonetheless. read more

Extra Space Storage at 72 Florida Ave, NE provided excellent service. The climate controlled units (yes I rented 2) were very clean, neat and kept my belongings safe for a year while I worked overseas. The staff were very helpful and accommodating. This was the first time I've used a storage unit and I am so impressed. I would give more stars if I could. Tiffane at the 72 Florida location was so sweet. I'm in the middle of selling my home and incredibly stressed out. She made the process of acquiring and selecting the unit so easy. She was extremely professional and just a great break from the other stressors I have going on. The contract is electronic. Their covid protocols are strictly adhered to. The place itself is spotless and secure. There are multiple layers of security and several cameras. I could not recommend them more. Also - when I arrived, someone had left their keys. Another employee was actively calling the library listed on a card from the persons keychain trying to get the keys back to the individual. They have a solid crew there. read more

The dorm style 5 x 5 was actually a little larger than expected, and I was able to fit in a additional carload into the unit. It was clean, they had three carts available. This place is maddening. There are people living in units. The elevators are out and there's no access to your stuff unless its on the first floor. The rear entrance never works so you have to park in an unsecured lot, and they let the construction site take most of the parking spots. Oh, is the rent affordable? It won't be when they raise your rate 100% after 3 months. read more

This place is terrible... Nobody is Ever in the office during open office hours... This location was taking packages for my business for months then a new manager came in and this grown man can't pick up 50lb packages so he told me he wouldn't accept them anymore for me... I also told him when signing my lease I spoke to somebody over the phone who said it would be no problem also that the ladies told me it would be no problem. When I told him the ladies in the front office had been taking my packages for months and I am legally blind so I need my packages to go to my unit he told me "we do not force you to rent with us" Terrible customer service Can easily find another storage place with better prices and better service read more

I've used 5-6 different storage units in my life and this was by far the best. It's brand new, so that makes a big difference as far as cleanliness, supply of carts, and functionality of elevators and restrooms, but when I arrived the asst manager was in the parking lot with a broom and dustpan sweeping up debris out front. Both she and the manager (who I spoke on the phone with earlier) were very nice to interact with and they left me a welcome kit in my unit. Also, there are a lot of units that are on the same floor as the loading dock, and there was significant parking available which is not typical for the middle of the city. I was paying my movers by the hour so having to use an elevator or having an inconvenient loading dock was a dealbreaker for me. I recommend this place. It's not the cheapest but it's the best I've seen. read more

I stopped by the Bladensburg location, which is brand new, to sign a lease. I was absolutely screamed at by the woman running the desk, for not wearing a mask. This was understandable, and I got my mask out ASAP. This seemed to make her more upset, more screaming. I get it, masks are important, but so is diffusing a tense situation where a paying customer is involved. However, she then kicked me out, locked the door and refused phone calls. If this is how the business is staffed, I would recommend looking elsewhere. I would go with a Virginia location, stay away from DC. read more
