Most items cost 80-90 cents plus tax per item and are pretty good sized. The dim sum is pretty standard, generally fresh and tasty. The only downside is that some items may be out of stock based on who was in line in front of you. That was the case for me--I tried to order a few different items and a few were sold out. I also ordered some other items and in the woman's haste, she misheard and filled my order incorrectly. Not sure if it's because I was in the area on a Thursday, but it was very quiet. Some notable things about this Dim Sum shop in particular are: it's interesting because everything was purchased for EACH instead of batches (which is what I'm typically used to for Dim Sum places). The place was hustling and bustling with lots of people coming in and out of the shop. They did have a sign saying that they would charge if you wanted to take food away, which is kind of a good thing that they're being mindful of the waste that they might be productions with "To-go" options, but that could be because they're being cheap too, but it's not a bad thing in this case ~~ Sauces: Sriracha (which I LOVE, but I personally prefer chili paste with Dim sum), some chili paste, pepper, and watered down soy sauce ~~Tips: Bring your own sauces, since they're pretty skimpy with theirs. ~~Return: Probably not. We'd been hankering for a spot of dim sum for some time and finally had a chance to stop by during the day. The last time we were in town, they happened to be away for vacation so we were stoked to catch them on one of the 51 weeks other weeks they were open! It's located in the heart of Chinatown and in the lower level of the bush hotel. It's a quaint little spot with seating for 15 or so and a line out the door a lot of the time. We came by for lunch and had ourselves a little two person feast (I came with our three-year-old). We also grabbed a bunch of stuff to go so that one of the other little dudes could take Chinese treats to his class at school. We ended up with 20 coconut buns, egg tarts and char siu bao. They packed them all up and even got us fresh one! Little man and I shared some char siu bao, an egg tarts, a "meat football", some shumai and shrimp dumplings. Both of us were very happy with our decision! Everything was super affordable and as good as anywhere else we've tried! The meat football-basically a sesame ball with meat inside, was surprisingly good, especially given the name. The bao was perfect and the coconut buns have kept my best half happy for the past week- everyone wins! If you are okay with a little chaos and likes to hunt for parking, then this place is for you! This is my go-to place for take out. I eat a little there and bring a lot back. There's two ways to order: make your selection on their paper menu or give them your order verbally (however, you better know what you want because they move quick and does not put up with hesitancy). The ladies will take your order, put it in a to-go box, unless you request otherwise. Yes, Chinese speaking is preferred. Visa card okay (I think $10 minimum). The place can get crowded as it is small and lines can be long (but goes pretty fast). Here's the low down: most dim sum items are roughly $0.70/piece or $0.80/piece, $2 for the big bao, $0.20 for big to-go containers and $0.10 for small to-go containers. It's probably a good idea to bring your own container to save some monies! Try to go early if you can (open 7am - 7pm, daily), some items might be sold out. You win some, you Dim sum!!! This was one of those take out spots pre pandemic: always hard to find parking but they always had giant steaming baskets of things for reasonable price if not cheap. But now in pandemic, this place is lit! Busy! Popping. Lines! They sell by pieces : $.80 cents a piece to $3.25 per order. And the lines are long. In the morning, they opens at 8 am with huge lines. If you speak Chinese, you can just yell at them your order and line jump. Since I don't, I get line cut by most while I write down my order form. Oh well! Love: their egg tarts! They are beautiful, thick crust ( too thick for my taste) but the custard/ egg part is great. Shrimp dumplings: always great. Sometimes the wrappers are a little too melty. But still good. BBQ buns/ chicken buns: both are good but I like chicken. Their spareribs is great if you can ever get one! The potstickers are too thick of a wrapper: not my favorite. Also the football shaped ones. Of all the dim sum restaurants in the International District, you may wonder why you should go to Dim Sum King. The #1 reason is, NO WAIT! #2 it's great for to-go. I honestly never dine in the restaurant. #3. Super affordable for 1 or 2 people. Because each item cost between $1-4, you can sample many items without breaking the bank or over-stuffed. Fair warning, not all sizes are equal. I made a mistake ordering 2 shrimp rice rolls, and each order has 3 rolls! Not all items can compare to the sit-down dim sum restaurants near by, but few items stand out: Peanut Mochi, Fried Meat Football, and redbean mochi (lightly fried) are my go-to items. Their menu is extensive, there are always new things to try. Everything there is a la carte so remember to get sauce and hot tea as needed. If you have a party 4 or more and crave the social aspect of dim sum, this place is not it. But for party of 1, this is place is perfect. read more

Due to gentrification and rapid economic/cultural shifts, many go-to dim sum places in Chinatown/International District have closed over the past decade. While the search for memorable dim sum seems like chasing shadows at this point, I still wanted to show support for the remaining Taishanese/Cantonese establishments within the historic neighborhood. The prices are great and ordering online is simple. Being able to buy buns for $0.90 each is an early 00s throwback and the dim sum, like many have said, is also incredibly cheap: cheap enough to feel daring in choosing more than what you initially planned. Chinatown is starting to be as busy as pre-pandemic, so once again there was no parking available except for up the hill. At the restaurant, there was a line of at least four people and it doesn't look like there is a separate area for pick-up orders, so the line was for people ordering in realtime as well via order forms. The line goes by generally quickly and they had the order already packaged by the time I got through the line. Packaging boxes are 20 cents per box because they're eco-friendly (from what the paper notice states) so I was expecting biodegradable but it's plastic? Also biodegradable but not for a long while. Also condiments cost extra and they don't provide napkins or utensils (not sure if you could ask for them as complimentary). It's very average tastes overall. I think the highlights were the turnip cake (super yummy and nostalgic) and the shu mai. The steamed rice cake and buns were a bit bland and the shrimp dumplings could have had a bit more depth in flavor. The buns particularly were a bit dry. I think next time I would come back for the two highlights and to try more dishes just because it's so cheap. In a new town, and on a Sunday...of course I'm searching for Dim Sun! I like small places that sell to-go dim sum like this. They have a few tables, but are not currently allowing dine-in. I was happy to find out that you can order by the piece! Which is great for me because I'm eating by myself but still want to try different dishes. Food: The shrimp dumpling was a bit on the small side, but tasted just fine. I could eat a dozen of these! The Siu Mai was mediocre. The size was decent. I typically check to see if it has the "pork smell". If you know you know. This one has just the slightest hint of it, enough to detect, but not deter me from eating it. Chicken feet - this was surprising to me because I typically get this dish with it still stewing in the sauce. This was served dry. And it was pretty good. Just enough flavor. Texture was spot on. The turnip cake was a bit mushy; I would have liked a bit more firmness to it. Flavor was good though. The shrimp in rice noodle with soy sauce was good, not great. One order came with three rolls, and just as I was thinking it was a pretty good deal with the shrimp to noodle ratio, the next one had a shrimp half the size of the other. It's fine, I'm only nitpicking because I want to be thorough in my review. Other things to note: I went on Sunday and parking situation was not great. And since it's take-out only, I brought this back to my car and ate in the car. You have to ask for soy sauce and hot sauce if you want, and it costs extra. Would I go again? Sure. Cheap and quick! I walked by this place many times in Chinatown and worked up the courage to try it for lunch today. They have a large selection of dim sum and they charge you for individual pieces rather than a 3/4 set like other dim sum sit down. Food wise - it's ok. Portions are pretty big but I'd say you're paying more for quantity than quality. The ha kow (shrimp dumpling) is also on the smaller size so definitely fill up on the xiu mai (pork dumpling) if you want to be full. I paid $30 for a lunch for 3 so it's definitely cheaper than going to Sunday brunch dim sum. Perfect if you're on the go tho! But I think I prefer going to Jade Garden or Harbor City for a more flavorful experience. read more

One thing I appreciate about Dim Sum King is if you're one person it's the perfect place to get dim sum to go. You can purchase by the piece and aren't stuck having three of an item and not being able to get more a variety. In the fried area my go to is always the football and sesame ball. I'll usually get a har gow or two and sui mai. They have both steamed and baked buns thought I checked steamed but my guess is they were out and she gave the baked instead. O hear the wgg tarts are delicious but the sesame ball usually satisfies my sweet yearning. I like their lotus leaf sticky rice usually contains Chinese sausage (lopchang). I have an addiction to cheap dim sum to go. For the price I love the quality of things here. I usually prefer to mark off my order on paper and just hand it to the staff at the counter. I don't feel the need to verbally struggle will my order... especially with language barriers and hectic cramped space inside when it gets crowded and busy. Huge fan of the basic siu mai and har gow. Get the egg custard buns! I usually grab a full large container of these to go all the time. The menu is simplified so don't expect all the offerings of a traditional sit down restaurant. We come here regularly for our dim sum fix and while it's not served to you on a moving cart from table to table it is hands down good quick and cheap eats! At times when they're busy they'll run out of shu Mai or har gow but f you're patient they'll resupply in minutes. A pretty solid alternative to what my best friend and I originally had planned as soon as we landed in one of the cities closest to my heart. This is the perfect place to go for dim sum takeout during COVID because they sell dim sum by the piece, so you can order a bunch of different items without spending a lot of money or being stuck with a ton of leftovers for yourself. I heard about a car accident at this place and they have reopen so I wanted to check it out and support the local business. They are definitely very resilient under COVID. My friend raves about their Shiu Mai, so I order a bunch for the family. I got the Shui Mai, lotus wrap sticky rice, a pan friend mochi dessert and a few daikon cake.
