Always a sodo hh favorite with great drinks & snacks and good hh deals from 3-6 pm. Have come in a few times times with a group and grabbed a space in the front which has first come first serve couches. Past snacks have included fries (served with a yum aioli), poutine with brisket (prepare to nap after), chicken wings, shishito peppers, olives and brussel sprouts (so basically I've tried most apps that are easily shareable) and I'd order any of them again. Derby is a place that instantly makes you feel hip and wealthy just dining in the showroom/garage of literally million dollars worth of high end and rare vintage vehicles. It's a very cool concept executed by none other than celebrity chef Ethan Stowell. The decor is a very industrial chic lounge. Cozy couches and big tvs, a small display of a vintage race car and a few motorcycles with a large bar area really gives it an ultimate man cave feel. Off to the left of the entrance is a members only lounge area with private meeting rooms, pool table and even race car simulator. It's so exclusive that if you aren't a member you can't even cross the line to look fully inside the room! but you can get a peek at it through a locked door in the restroom hallway. We dined here one saturday with some friends for brunch, service was extremely friendly and happy. I wish I could remember her name as she was super nice and funny. The food we got was pretty good... I can't say anything was life changing as I got the grits with poached eggs and brisket. Grits was well cooked and eggs were cooked to perfection. The brisket I wasn't a super fan of as it was easily over shadowed by the candied bacon - i cut that up and put it in my grits and it just made the dish 10 times better. The bacon was a super thick cut and cooked nicely. That was easily the best part of the meal. Overall - a cool spot to hang out and enjoy the view of some beautiful machinery. I wouldn't have made it past time 1 if it weren't for the fact that this place is a lot closer to my studio than heading down to G-town or over to 1st Ave for drinks and grub. I'm posting here in hopes that some folks at headquarters are tracking the feedback on Yelp, cuz I'm sure I'll be back with friends or clients and would prefer to enjoy it rather than shoulder-shrug it. First off: The seating. The metal chairs are downright painful for those who are wider or have hips. The couch loungy seats are just right if you aren't planning on eating, or if you don't want to squat oddly over the table. So go for a booth or best yet, sit at the bar if there's just two of you (because the acoustics are too loud to have a conversation and understand your dining companions when it's crowded). Skip the Caesar. I've had more delicious salads from a pre-made deli counter. Seriously. And, the $13 cost added extra bitterness to the already bitter romaine. Entrees with the beef brisket are not as good as one would expect. The poutine as well as the brunch grits had brisket chunks that were tough-ish and or were just chunks of fat The brunch grits had zero flavor and the half-congealed cheese curds seemed like a mistake. The red-eye gravy was just fine and the poached eggs were quite lovely when I was able to season them with the salt that I had in my purse (Because, sigh, this joint is yet another snooty restaurant that doesn't put salt and pepper on the tables). The carrots with the yogurt sauce is a noteworthy attempt at having an exotic vegetarian option on the menu, but still needs to be work-shopped in terms of getting the harissa flavoring right and adding some richness to the yogurt sauce. You only have Tabasco? Seriously? Do your patrons a favor and make some Tapatio, Cholula, or Aardvark sauce available like other respectable eateries have done. So...What's good? The burger was enjoyable (fries had passed their prime but maybe next time they'll be fresher). The French toast at brunch with the bananas and fancy toppings was quite tasty. Such a unique setting! I really enjoyed both the food and the environment. We had a really good time walking around to look at the cars. We came at a not busy time, and were lucky the manager was willing to let us walk around to explore the garage and shop with him. Brought the boys here on a Monday evening about 5:30pm and easily grabbed a table for our party. I had the steak salad which was so tasty - the steak was perfect and the combo of dried cranberries, blue cheese, crispy onions and dressing was awesome. My BF has the burger with the thickest cut bacon ever - seriously could have been a slice of pork belly it was so thick. He loved every bite. Trying to be cool, but it isn't. 1. If you are in Seattle, there needs to be a decent vegetarian entree. I usually don't even bother checking menus because everywhere has at least one veg options. NOT HERE. I ate only tomatoes. Not even fries are veg. 2. It took over thirty minutes to receive said tomatoes. Even better was the view through the glass of all the member's cars. The restaurant is just a portion of a huge warehouse filled with vintage, custom, and exotic cars, plus several lifts , a car wash bay, and every tool you would need to work on them. Members pay a monthly fee and get use of the facilities. Members have a lounge, cigar room, video games, conference room, pool table, and get a discount on food. Hope to join or at least attend events here in the future. Also, they pay their wait staff a good wage, so a 20% tip is included with your bill. Took about 10 minutes for drink orders. Waited another 10-15 for the drinks to come. Food was then ordered. We really wanted to try the smoked meatloaf, but at 730 on a Friday night they were all out of it. Decided to do an appetizer of the Poutine, side salad, and the rigatoni with meatballs for main dish. Waited about 20-30 minutes for food. All the food was brought together at the same time. Actually I take that back, they brought the poutine and pasta together first. Then the side salad about 5 minutes later. Thought the poutine was an appetizer? Was never asked if we wanted a second drink. Check was just brought with the assumption we were done when we were halfway through our meal. The poutine was great. The salad overpriced for what it is. The rigatoni was overcooked, sauce lacking, and meatballs dry. I want to come back and give them a second try because there were moments that I felt they had strong potential.
