I stopped by around 4 PM on a weekday, shortly after opening. There was no one at the host stand or at the bar; the place looked deserted, except there was one patron sitting nearby with a drink. Bartenders / servers appeared after a few minutes. The cocktails are $19-$25 and all fruit-focused. Literally every one has fruit in it -- strawberry, apricot, raspberry, passionfruit, peach, cherry, etc -- except the espresso martini. Wines are $16-$25. Both drink menus tend towards the upper end of those price ranges. The paper menu was in bad shape, with tears and water marks. For a high end bar, I want to see better cocktails and a menu that isn't falling apart. Service was very slow. I had to go to bar to get the server's attention because he was chatting with other staff. The prosecco ($16) and Smoke Signal cocktail ($20) were ok. The cocktail was even fruitier than I expected -- bright red and with 3 raspberries on top. This is not a serious bar. Views were ok, but also blocked by nearby buildings. The interaction felt unnecessarily rude and dismissive, which was both surprising and disappointing given my long history with this place. Great establishments are built not just on food or ambiance, but on how people are treated--and that piece is clearly missing now. It's especially unfortunate because the rest of the team still shows glimpses of what this place used to be. Jordon, was genuinely kind and pleasant, but one positive interaction couldn't outweigh the manager's miserable attitude. It's hard to see a place that once felt so special lose its charm like this. I know the winemaker Paul is a great person - so it is hard to leave such a terrible review, but at the same time, if this was my place -- I would want to know what was happening behind the scenes at my establishment. I truly hope leadership reflects on how customer experience is being handled moving forward. Don't give money to places that have toxic attitudes and are joy crushers! Past visit 2+ years ago the reservation is through Tock. Recently the reservation is through OpenTable so I thought the points credits will be honored here as they are in the OpenTable network, so I redeemed points to discount $8, only to not be applied to the bill since the reservation $15 per person is a deposit and refunded on seating, instead of most places where the deposit deducts the cost of the final bill. None of the bartenders could do anything, and didn't bother raising this to management (probably downstairs at Tavern Law could've remedied the situation but the short turnaround time implied they didn't try). Additionally, when I got my drink, the bartender did not bother taking a second look to see there's a bug. It was deep inside the drink, not at the top, so the bug did not just fly and land on the drink after being served. So it was a bit negligent, especially given they jacked up the price from $21 to $25 in just 2 years. The price increase did not justify the quality, if anything, price went up significantly and quality dropped... The bartender addressed the issue by remaking the drink but the drink was noticeably smaller than the original one. It would only have made sense if I drank a lot of it, but I only had small sip stopped when I saw the bug. The experience was very frustrating overall that I didn't wish to tip, only to find out they added a 20%+ service charge without my consent when I looked at the credit card statement. That is fraud. Fraudulently adding a tip to yourself earned you a 1 star. Otherwise this would've been more a 3 star experience due to the miss from the bug, and the OpenTable issue.

We ordered the shishito peppers and hummus plate for around $11-$12 each, which felt surprisingly reasonable considering the setting. Staff was suuuuper nice! And after striking out on espresso martinis at our previous stop, we finally got our redemption here. The Nest's espresso martini ranks somewhere mid-tier for me compared to others around the city, but at that point we were just happy to have one in hand. My friend's husband, mother in law, son, daughter in law, niece and I arrived at 5:30pm, ahead of the official doors opening at 6:00pm. We entered, hands with fresh flowers for my friend, excited to be there. She had asked her husband and son to arrive early to set up the merchandise table before the club opened. We also wanted to help her with any last minute details. We were met at the door by a tall man with a long white beard wearing a black baseball cap. Instead of welcoming us or kindly telling us that the club was not yet open, he barked that the club was not open until 6pm. We explained we were the performer's family and we came to assist her with merchandise and signage set up. He then told us to "make ourselves small" because they were setting up tables and we'd be in the way. Then he rudely asked if we had tickets. As if her family wouldn't have taken care of that, knowing the show would sell out? The entire interaction with him was completely unpleasant and unnerving. He was also mean and nasty to some of the other performers who had arrived earlier to rehearse. I have no idea what this man's position is at The Royal Room. I sincerely hope he's not the owner or GM. I would strongly suggest someone gives him basic training in customer service. As the first person guests meet upon arrival, he makes a terrible impression. Thankfully, the rest of the staff made up for his rude behavior by being helpful and attentive. The show itself was incredible as I knew it would be. The food was good and the ambiance was cool. I would consider going there again to see a friend's show and I might recommend the venue to others, but I would definitely warn them about the inhospitable treatment we received.
