Hold the press. Just found a great place for Taco Tuesday. These are street tacos. I must have been greeted by 4 different lady's. As soon as one walked away another one noticed me and greeted me. A bit funny but they were making sure that I wasn't missed. This place was packed but since I was by myself it was easy to get a seat. I had the Carne Asada, Lengua ( Not .99 cents ), Carnitas and Al Pastor with an Horchata. Most of the street tacos are .99 cents. Just a couple are not. But I chose to have the 99cent tacos and even a couple of the Lengua . Lengua were full price. But they were well worth the extra price. Or rather said , worth the regular price. The place is not very big. But it is capable to hold a good 80 people I think. The place was very clean. And the tables were placed in a way that they could move and there was plenty of space between them and from seat to seat. Never feeling like the next table was on your back. The place is bright in light. This place is hidden but still easy to get there. It is right on the corner. Of Kramer and E. Birch St. on the north west side corner next to the Liquor / convenience store. It shows it good on the yelp map. But not on directions. So remember in the little strip mall/ plaza. I'll have redo this review at a latter date when I go back and try what most of the customers were having. It was like if they didn't know that they had 99cent tacos. But it was right on there menu. So I was upcharged $3 on my meal, menu said $14.99 and I was charged $17.99. When I asked about it I was pointed to a note by the register that said charging for all extras. The salsa and chips? I was told that because of increase in meat charges, and menu would be updated. Bottom line bad business practice to charge different from menu pricing without any forewarning. I like the food here but that alone doesn't sit well. If I were told upfront on increased prices, I might of still ordered what I got but now I won't be returning because you can't just charge whatever without giving the consumer notice. read more

Almost all of the food was dull. It seemed like what you'd get at a common American chain restaurant that also serves watered down, flavorless Mexican food; not authentic homestyle Mexican food rich with flavor and spice like you get at a small family-owned restaurant. The shrimp fajitas were plain and unsatisfying. The "steak" in the carne asada tacos was dry and overly salted and the non-handmade tortillas were bland. Chicharron tacos fell apart and chicharrones were too soggy and had big chunks of dry, DRY, *DRY* pork. Tortilla chips had no taste - like low-quality chips from a grocery store. They had a chemical aftertaste, maybe the preservatives. The bean & cheese burrito and taquitos (tasted more like flautas) were ok. Very small portion of guacamole for the La Puerta Platter. Quesadillas were average, but they did put lots of cheese! The barbacoa had a good spicy taste and soft texture. Small portions of rice & beans for this dinner, and you only get 2 tortillas. The 2 tortillas were handmade and good. I gave this place a few chances and won't be going back again. :/ read more

Authentic Mexican food Fast service, clean environment and quality food! We ordered the asada plate & berries crepes. Hubby and I split the plates & were satisfied. Wow! One of the best Mexican food places I have ever tried! I wish the tripas (beef intestines) were more chewy like they usually are, but they are still delicious (they deep fry them so they are very crispy). Handmade corn tortillas are awesome, sopes are large than usual (which explains why they are pricier than usual), and the corn tortilla chips are perfectly crispy without being greasy! Had the opportunity to visit Puerta again for lunch and as on our last visit we were not disappointed. I cannot say enough about the friendly wait staff (you feel like family) and generous portions of outstanding food. We started with the La Puerta Platter. A nice sampling of 2 Cheese Quesadillas, 4 Mini Roll Taquitos, 2 Soft Street Tacos (one carnitas, one asada), Served with Guacamole, Sour Cream, and Pico Gallo. The perfect size for the four of us. Everything was delicious. My goal was to try an entree I had not tried at La Puerta, as long as it came with fresh, steaming hot corn tortillas. My choice was the Chimichanga plates. 2 Small chimichangas (one carnitas, and one chicken) served with Pico de Gallo, Fresh Guacamole, Sour Cream, rice, and beans. Of course there were lots and lots of fresh corn tortillas. I definitely earned a clean plate award, everything was very tasty. If you haven't been to La Puerta, I cannot urge you to go strongly enough, you will not regret it. read more

I'm not sure how to feel about this place. On one hand, I love the down-home, local feel. The food is fairly authentic, but I wouldn't necessarily say it's great. Their pozole is one of the best I've ever had - the portion size is huge, the chunks of meat are super tender, the ratio of hominy beans is just perfect, and the soup itself is oily, which is actually how authentic pozole should be! Unfortunately, the rest of the dishes I've tried were all pretty bland. The shredded beef taco was disappointing, as it came dripping with watery lettuce, contained very little meat, and the shell itself wasn't very crunchy. I had high hopes for their chicken tortilla soup, since their pozole is so good, but unfortunately the soup literally tasted like plain chicken vegetable soup you make when you're nursing a cold. I've also tried the ceviche before and sadly, it has absolutely no taste to it either and just tastes like a bunch of lemony ingredients thrown together. The service is also hit or miss. There's usually only two ladies working, so if the restaurant isn't very crowded, expect to receive great service from both of them...but once the lunch rush hits, prepare to be completely ignored! I can totally understand that a crowded restaurant can be overwhelming, but I really think they need to hire at least one extra employee to adequately cover all of the tables. I still think El Farolito, Pepe's, and other Mexican places in Placentia are way better than La Puerta, but I do like the convenience of the location...and would definitely come back for pozole alone! read more

I love going to restaurants highly rated on yelp. This is where we found La Puente restaurant . We were greeted by the nice server in the world, as if we were guests in her home. The service was very fast and they offer bottomless chips, salsa and soft drinks! Yay... The restaurant is extremely clean. I ordered the cheese enchiladas, my husband ordered a combo plate. Extremely disappointed with this place, especially after seeing the great reviews. This is my first, and possibly my only, time here. I came on a Saturday at 9 and the restaurant still wasn't open despite the sign saying it opened at 8:30 a.m. I decided to wait a few more minutes to give it a chance because of the reviews and I was hankering for a good breakfast burrito. Ordering was fine, took the servers a bit to get settled in and take my order. I ordered a chorizo breakfast burrito which came out to $9. I was very disappointed in what I recieved. $9 for this small burrito just as big as the of my hand, and I have small hands. The taste was okay, nothing amazing, typical of a chorizo burrito. I asked for extra salsa, and they gave me one more flat Ramekin . Not sure if they had made the rest of the salsa for the day yet and were keeping their reserve? My best friend and I were in the area and wanted to grab some dinner other than what the city had to offer nearby the mall region or downtown. We just wanted something different, so I started searching Yelp hoping that something new may have opened some time during the past few years. Close to giving up and thinking we were going to settle with the usual spots that were most likely super-packed (given that its the start of dinnertime as well), I stumbled upon this little gem on the list. By the time we reached the restaurant, we saw from outside that it wasn't too busy or crowded at all (which was a good thing for us because we were getting pretty hungry at this point). We walked in and were taken to our table with menus. The inside of the restaurant was pretty simple and looked fairly new, which was later told to us that it's been a little under a year since they've first opened. No wonder! As for the food, -tasted good -portions are generous -affordably priced I just only wish there was some hot sauce available to enjoy; will find out next time since we'll be going back again soon. :) read more

A buddy and I were playing in a pick up softball game at nearby Brea Sports Park. Before the game, we decided to get some fuel/food to prepare. First off, let me say that I really enjoyed the vibe and feel of this place. The waitresses were super friendly, nice and accommodating. The service was really top notch; our coffee cups never went dry and neither did the bowls of complimentary chips and salsa. Just upon entering and sipping the first few sips of my cinnamon coffee made me feel like I just had to rate this place highly. I'm sorry to report that my chorizo and egg plate with side of beans and potatoes was so bland. The potatoes were....potatoes. The beans were....beans. What was the worst was the chorizo and eggs weren't what I'm accustomed chorizo and eggs tasting like. Seriously, even THAT was bland. Typically that chorizo gives the eggs a nice little spice...at least...not here. The only flavorful thing I ate here was the salsa. I trust my fellow Yelpers, but I just can't go above "A-OK" (3 stars) on this place. I think I'll give it another shot just to be certain. Good food but after returning today. I was just surprise to see the prices. Talk about raising prices 2 flautas rice-and beans for $15. If you read my reviews, you will see that a large percentage are for Mexican Restaurants. De Oro La Puerta is as good (if not better) than anything I've found in OC. I first tried the Al Pastor plate and it was as good as anything I've had in Baja. Homemade corn tortillas were spectacular and they brought me two separate spicy salsas that I loved. My wife had a chimichanga and devoured it. Not greasy at all. Could not wait to go back and I tried the chile relleno. Made with a pobalano chile and they nailed it. The breading is usually a relleno's downfall but this was perfect. Try De Oro La Puerta. You won't be sorry. read more

I eat here about 2-3 times a week because it is conveniently located in the same shopping center as my work. All the ladies who work here are lovely, really. Friendly staff, prompt service and some really excellent dishes. I usually order the crunchy potato taco or shrimp taco on a flour tortilla. I have ventured out and tried the shrimp cocktail (fresh) the ceviche (perfect summer lunch) pozole (tastes just as good as the one my mom can bang out) cheese and chilies tamales (excellent!!) I notice that their street tacos are also popular but I haven't tried them and one of my regulars always orders their Chile Colorado burrito and I trust he has good taste in Mexican food. Overall I'm just stoked that there's good Mexican food so close by and I wish them all the success in the world! :) read more

Tried this place for take out for the first time tonight after seeing it on BreaNOW.. did not disappoint- the food and customer service were excellent!! Ordered for the entire family so we had the carne asada wet burrito (red & green sauce), tacos with the homemade tortillas, and albondigas soup.. all awesome!! Also got both the red & green salsa, some of the best salsa I have ever had. My local go to fav for breakfast or authentic Mexican food. The Chili Verde Burrito is my default. Carnitas Nachos or Carne Asada fries or my second. My family loves the breakfast options. I usually get the Chile Verde breakfast. My daughter loves the Nutella pancakes. She just added Albondigas soup to her fav list. It's the only walking distance Mexican food near my house so I gave it a try. I was pleasantly surprised. Ordered tripas, Asada, Pastor, Pollo, and shrimp tacos. The meats quality was not actually too bad. But I was pleasantly surprised by the Tripas tacos. They cooked it where the meat is extra crispy and crunchy with every bite. Made me happy. They have regular tortillas and handmade tortillas. The handmade tortillas are not too bad but for the price I think it's better to just go with the regular tortillas. The price is more than a taco truck but the portion is moderately sized. The workers are all friendly here and restaurant is clean. There salsa verde and tomatillo salsa is homemade and you can the burnt flavor of each. Overall, pretty authentic Mexican food in the area. Now I have somewhere to go when I have the taco munchies. Took them more than 20 mins to make for me at lunch time but it was worthwhile to wait Wonderful Very tasty mole sauce, handmade thick corn tortillas, moist chicken, and none of that cheddar cheese of other restaurants on top of the refried beans Rice was also very good I ordered horchata and was also good And the service is extremely attentive and nice! Salsa was delicious and spicy!!! Food was ok. Our friend referred us here, said it was the best Mexican food. I ordered Shrimp cocktail, friends ordered tacos, and kids ordered quesadillas. They were super greasy quesadillas so the kids didn't eat them and typically they love quesadillas. My friends tacks had salsa on them that was so spicy she couldn't enjoy her tacos, so she didn't eat them after a couple bites. When we told the waitress, she laughed and said "next time ask for no salsa" and walked away..didn't offer to make them again or anything. Second time here and never again. First time we dined in we both had menudo and it was so bland beyond bland (Before corona). Today may 5 called food in Togo and that was it for me asked for no sour cream and I just love opening up my food to find a nice helping in between the guacamole and pico de Gallo. Also all the pico was so juicy that it made my food super soggy! Thank god I had some condiments left over from north gate it kinda saved my food. Also got tacos for my son and it just amazed me how you can have meat that's cooked and meat that looks like it was just thrown in there and not even cooked it was so pink not one ounce of color on it. My fiance and I thought that the food was very good, but not the best out of comparable dishes we've had at other places. -Enchiladas (red with cheese): The sauce had a unique flavor but we thought it was a bit underseasoned and could use a bit more complexity. Overall an enjoyable dish. -Mulitas (with lengua): Soooo delicious!! The ingredients were lengua with cheese, refried beans, and guacamole inside two crispy corn tortillas. Paired with the green salsa, it was awesome! Maybe it would have been good with chilena (green avocado salsa) too. -Sope (with asada): Solid but not particularly special Overall, portions are huge, so the prices are a bit higher than you might expect. I would say the price mostly matches the quantity of food. Maybe each dish is $1 more than average per equivalent portion size. read more

Came here for lunch today and while I thought the food was good, I wouldn't call it amazing. The service was exceptional, everyone was very nice and helpful and the restaurant was packed with people. You could tell that It was a very popular lunch spot in Brea. I had the cheese enchiladas with rice and beans and everything tasted fresh but slightly on the bland side. I think the food here would do in a pinch if I can't get over to El Farolito in Placentia which is always my #1 pick for Mexican Cuisine. read more

Amazing. I got a burrito with guacamole, sour cream, and chicken(rice and veggies too) and it was amazing. Although I never really order burritos at restaurants(usually tacos), this may or may not be the best burrito I've ever had. I also got street tacos and they were definitely up to par, with perfectly cooked chicken and fresh tortillas. The service isn't anything special, not something to increase or decrease the star rating, but they do have indoor dining at the time of writing. They even let us move together four tables for our family to eat. Very good. I definitely recommend this place. read more
