They have two mini tables for two that are maybe 23 inches wide. Even though there were other tables available, we were seated at one of these child size tables. After being seated and waiting some time a server that wasn't our server noticed us and asked if anyone has come by. had to ask for a server. There is something wrong with their math. Good flautas are hard to find. Ever since getting addicted to them with DeAnn at her local burger & Mexican joint, I've spent a lot of years looking for a decent and not terribly expensive restaurant to indulge in my addiction. The Whole Enchilada has some pretty good flautas. Chunky with beef, soft and supple fried flour tortilla, and everything covered in chile verde, cheese, and sour cream. Every bite pretty much rocked and brought back memories of that Phelan local hangout with them. The service was good. The server took my order fast, got my order back to the table fast, and got my refill to me fast. The only slowdown was my trying to get my check and then waiting for someone to run my credit card. Both of those took far too long for a dining room that wasn't all that busy. However, my biggest complaint was the idiotic policy to charge a dollar for all to-go containers according to my server. I only wanted a to-go cup for my root beer that was only 3/4 full. I hate wasting soda but I didn't feel like drinking any more of it. So I did what I did everywhere else and ask for a cup for me to take it home. That's when I was told it would cost me a $1 added to the bill. Not for more root beer, not for something extra for the meal, and not something they didn't already plan for--this was for the soda I had already started to drink and theoretically was useless to anyone else. I shudder to think if I'd left any of my flautas on the plate. They probably would have charged for the to-go box and the bag. This is the kind of nickel-and-diming that of ruins meals. The ambience was alright. It reminds of that Islands vibe with everyone in Hawaiian shirts and open air arrangement to the room. It would be a nice place to hang. In short I loved the flautas but I abhorred the making me feel like I was a freak for not wanting to shoot the rest of my 20 oz. drink like it was whiskey at a bachelor party or else pay an extra charge. It's an annoying and unnecessary policy. read more

I used to eat at the Diamond Bar location as a kid, but they closed down. Found this one when I moved to Fullerton for college, have truly enjoyed it for the last 10 years. I have seen the changes (some good, some bad), but overall the place has stayed consistent. I will say, dont be an old person coming here and think you are getting in on high quality authentic mexican food. The common demographics of their patrons describes how real this stuff is. Its all basic, the menu never changes, its safe eats for an easy going customer demand. I enjoy their burritos. Good size portions for the price, mid level appropriateness for the flavor. I wouldn't view this as treating yourself, but rather, enjoying a decent meal to get full off of, in a clean restaurant.. The unlimited chips and salsa make for a nice touch.. The staff seem to have their good days and their bad, but always friendly enough to make the meal pleasant. read more

Hmmm. I'm confused on this one. The food was so bland and lackluster. I just don't get it. The food looks appealing. They make it look like it would taste really good. Then you bite into it, and it's like where is the flavor??? So, I'm Caucasian and my husband is Hispanic. He likes spice and lots of flavor in his food. He couldn't even eat this Mexican food lol That is saying a lot, I think. I was able to eat the cheese enchiladas, but they were not my favorite. Maybe they needed some salt? There was a good amount of cheese, just no flavor. It was very odd. My eyes were telling me, "It should taste good." My taste buds said, "what are we even eating." I feel like The Whole Enchilada is A Whole lot of smoke and mirrors. Maybe they should change the name? At least people would know what they are getting; conned lol Total waste of money. I'm not sure if we would give them another try. It was really disappointing. We were craving some good Mexican food, and this was not it. read more

I love this place. It's a bit of a drive for me be the food is terrific! The classic chips and salsa are great. My last trip there the salsa was perfect. One of my favorites. I also had a taco with shredded beef which was outstanding. Very nostalgic of Mexican Restaurants north of the border. I also had a Chili Relleno and a green chicken tamale. I can't wait to return. The service was quick and the staff kept my drink filled. Old style decor with a modern look. A perfect place to enjoy good food in a relaxed atmosphere. read more

My family wanted to visit on an early Saturday evening for dinner. The restaurant was busy, loud, and understaffed; however, I enjoyed my food. We had complementary chips and salsa and got more upon request after we finished our first round. From the mas especiales part of the menu, I got Joaquina's chicken mole, which included Spanish rice, frijoles de la olla, and corn tortillas. It would've been nice to know what ingredients the mole consisted of because it tasted quite delicious with a great blend of savory and sweet flavors. The texture reminded me of curry, which I enjoyed. However, it could've used more rice compared to the amount of chicken portioned. While the beans tasted fine (albeit a little bland), I wished they were refried instead. I'd order it the next time if I come back, and my family also liked it. We also got the steak & shrimp fajitas, which came with flour or corn tortillas. Instead of having two tortilla warmers, we all shared one. As dinner service continued, it got more difficult to get our server's attention due to the restaurant getting busier. Also, a couple of us were unfortunate to have the sun hitting their faces during sunset. Not all of the windows had blinds to block the sunlight. Combined with the loud and bustling ambience, we wanted to leave the restaurant soon after finishing our food. read more

The Whole Enchilada - Joaquina's chicken mole - Mexican Near Me - Placentia, California

My husband and I ordered to-go because we wanted to give this place a chance since we were "extremely critical" the last time we ate here. We paid close to $20 for a San Lucas Salad that had no chicken, no dressing, a quarter of an avocado, some crushed up chips, a few pieces of jicama, maybe two tablespoons of corn, and a side salad's worth of lettuce that didn't look fresh under the minuscule toppings. In the past few years I have ordered this menu item and had it in the restaurant and from "to-go", and it has been excellent. However, there's no consistency at this place. If you have certain chefs, you're gonna end up with the salad of your dreams, but if it's the other cooks (notice I did not call them chefs), you're screwed. Plus, how they serve it in the restaurant SHOULD be how they serve it to you when you order takeout. Management needs to be on top of this issue because their standards have been going down dramatically over the years and it seems like no one cares anymore. All I know is that as someone who owns a business, the product you put out should be the best every time. You should be proud to say that what you hand out is your product, and if I were the owner of this establishment, I'd be embarrassed. I'm giving it a two because their chips and salsa are always good. read more

This is a very well-known popular restaurant in the area of Placentia. Get there early to be seated in a reasonable time. I think we arrive at 5:30 PM and by time we left there was a line out the door, and this was a Thursday. We were greeted at our table in a reasonable time with drink orders taken. As we were there with my son, too young grandchildren, the staff took the children's orders first so their meals would come out quickly. Portions of food are plentiful. I ordered a plate of authentic chili relleno which was very good and came with traditional beans and rice. My wife had a fajita platter and she took half of it home, a portion was that big. Service was right on with refilling of drinks and removing of dirty plates. As we were visiting the area, not sure if I will get back to The Whole Enchilada, but will visit if so. read more

Good food and big portions (though a bit on the saltier side FYI) if you ever want to give this place a try. We've tried their "whole enchilada" which is basically a big combo including any 3 "entree" such as crispy taco, enchilada, chile relleno, mini burrito or 2 taquitos with beans and rice. We also tried their nachos (with shredded beef as a protein). There's a lot of food so you'll have leftovers. Overall, prices are decent, credit cards are accepted, and there's plenty of parking read more

We've been dining at the Whole Enchilada for decades. Rubin must be turning over in his grave. Your price for a corona is $8.15. The going price around town is $5.50 to $6.00 To get a to go cup is an extra $1.00. For a large party maximum, you will only give three checks. Half of us pay cash so no credit card charge. You are price gouging. read more

Great service, cute vibe inside, and great food. Prices are a little high though. I'd come back, just not that often because I'm not rich.

We tried this place for the first time as we had an event at Cal State Fullerton. We were seated promptly and immediately was served two bowls of chips and salsa. One of the guests on our table likes spicy salsa so he immediately brought another bowl of spicier salsa. Our server Connor was very friendly, attentive and professional. I had a crispy chicken taco that was delicious- stuffed with cheese, tomato and lettuce. I We also tried a albondiga soup that had good flavor. The salsa that they put on the table was very mild and flavorful. My husband had the seafood enchiladas and he highly recommends them. Another guest in our table has a three item combo with a taco enchilada and chile rellano and also gave it a very high rating. Overall everything was great. I used the restroom and was impressed as it was immaculate. read more

Our family has been going here for years and and we go once a week. If we were to rate this place on the food and the waiters and service , it would get 5 stars! But unfortunately, there's been changes over the last year with management and repairs needing to be made that aren't getting done. They have high open windows which bright sun comes through and blinds the patrons while they're eating. We have put in many requests and complaints and so have other customers and management keeps saying they're going to fix it, but nothing's been done. There should at least be a temporary fix until there can be a permanent fix. It is so uncomfortable you have to wear a hat, sunglasses or hold your hand over your face to even be able to block the sunlight from shining in your eyes. Also, there is talk about changing out certain servers and shifts, and we don't want those changes made. We have established relationships with the servers and look forward to seeing them when we go ( especially Chuy! He's the best) But the servers lately seem like they haven't been as happy and maybe it's due to the complaints we all have to be making for those repairs or if it's changes being made by new management. Please listen to your customers and make these repairs and keep our servers happy because we love seeing their smiling faces! read more
